Good sushi starts with quality fresh fish. And this place met the standard. You can tell quality fish when you get a Chirashi Bowl without all the sauces and fixings (which I do enjoy). The albacore appetizer was very flavorful. The menu indicated it was only slight spicy, but boy was it spicy! I only had one piece (it was so good) but had to leave the rest to my friends. The small Chirashi bowl was very filling for $29 and the quality was top notch. Very fresh and served with a perfect amount of rice and toppings. I was taught by a fellow Yelp friend to use the leaf to wrap a piece of Sashimi (I'm talking about you Annie Y.!). I was told the place can get pretty busy so we ate at 4pm on a Saturday like a bunch old people :) Service was efficient and friendly. My husband and I walked in and immediately got seated. We ordered the Torch Roll, Elk Grove Roll, and the Lobster Roll. We love the Elk Grove Roll because the flavor combination and the albacore on the rolls is so worth it! It is definitely one of their expensive rolls but it's worth it cause it's like you're getting an appetizer and roll together. The Torch Roll was delicious as well! We will not get the Lobster Roll again, the flavor is lacking and honestly not worth ordering. Our order came pretty quick, and the server was great! They weren't busy but there were a few tables being used, it was pretty quiet in the restaurant. This was my first time trying Sushi Q and it was a great experience. The sushi was fresh and delicious and the customer service was excellent. We came on a Friday for lunch and there was no wait for a table. We ordered two of the lunch box specials and a plate of salmon truffle sashimi. The salmon truffle sashimi came out first and not only was the presentation beautiful, the fish was fresh and tasted delicious. The ponzu sauce was a bit tangy, but very enjoyable with the fish and cabbage mixture. The first lunchbox came with 5 pieces of chef's choice sashimi, which was salmon and tuna that day, and 3 pieces of BBQ salmon. The sashimi was good and fresh. I loved how tender the BBQ salmon was - seared on the outside but super soft on the inside. Also, the spicy mayo wasn't too spicy, which I liked. All of the other items in the box tasted great too - the salad - fresh and tasty, cucumbers, seaweed salad, and rice - I liked the sesame seeds they sprinkled on top. The second box came with chicken teriyaki and the Monterey Trail roll. I didn't get to try any of it, but heard it was pretty good. We had two servers that checked on us regularly and refilled water without having to ask. Both of them had a friendly demeanor and provided great customer service, which made dining there very enjoyable. The restaurant was clean and comfortable to dine in. When I first went to Sushi Q several years ago, I wasn't really impressed. I thought it was good but nothing to write home about. So, I didn't return until recently. Each subsequent visit I've had has just gotten better and better. I got the Big Papa which is a HEFTY roll and lives up to it's moniker. Their house special Sushi Q roll is a mouthful. The lemon slices gives the roll a nice clean finish. On my last visit, I was totally wowed by their sunomono and their version of the rainbow roll, Skittles roll. The quality and presentation of the dishes have surpassed most of the sushi places nearby. Even with their larger rolls, they're cut into bite sized pieces so you're able to taste and appreciate the quality ingredients. The service has always been top notch with the servers giving their suggestions when you ask their opinion. The place is small and cozy. Even when it's full, you can still have a conversation with your fellow diners. Make sure you leave room for dessert. If you just want a small dessert, their Gunther's brand ice cream hits the spot. If you're with a group and feeling adventurous, go for the deep fried cheesecake. You'll thank me later. read more

This place reminder me so much of my recent visit to Japan. Smaller space compare to some of the other local Japanese restaurant but offers a fresh selection and rolls. Consider yourself warned that the Bomb.com is like an explosion of heat in your mouth. My gfs told me not to even try it for I have a weak palate for spice but did I listen? NOPE and I paid for it. Happy 10th anniversary! They are celebrating with $10 for some of their most popular rolls. It was a full house with a substantial waiting list but we were happy to get in after waiting for 20-30 mins. Food offerings: - Baby Calamari - Fried calamari was perfectly fried. The oil even tasted fresh and the batter was light. The green onions on top were sliced with care. - Sushi Q Roll - a really solid roll. Loved the crunchies on top and the tempura inside. - Kimmie Roll - the addition of bacon was fun and interesting. Fish and avocado quality here was really great! - Mina Roll - the furikake and teriyaki sauce really pack a flavor punch! Very bold and rich flavors. There are also a mess of onions on top "lomi style" which I believe are very thinly cut. Definitely got to be an onion lover for this one. - Aviana Roll - I love a crunch sprig of asparagus in a roll! This one tasted so fresh! The staff today was hustling! 3-4 servers and a lot of chefs! I've tried so many sushi spots in the sacramento region, and sushi q is definitely in my top. Tbh, I love ayce sushi, but they can't compare to the quality of rolls here. In the sashimi platter, you'll get 25 pieces (5 variety of fish) that are chef choice. They're thick cuts, fresh, and delicious. We ordered a few other rolls, which were recommended by the staff and we love all of them! The sashimi blossom was a little spicy for me, but if you love spicy food, this is for you. Sushi Q is one of the places that I visit often for togo as it nearby to where I live. I'm not mad at that since my order is fairly simple, being the salmon maki (sake maki) and i like adding cucumber and masago to it, this is always made very nicely and satisfies my craving. The service itself can be slow at times but I don't mind too much since the atmosphere in the restaurant is always so positive and lively. Although, I once waited over an hour for 1 order of salmon nigiri and 1 order salmon maki. I've never dined in, but they do offer bar seating and a good amount of regular tables, both indoor and outdoor. Despite some wait time, I always come back for my fixings, and may warrant a laugh or two with the chefs. read more

Although pricey, Sushi Q does have good sushi. Out of all the rolls, I recommend the Torch, Avianna, Uncle J, and Sushi Q. The others that are under $17 are not worth the price for their simplicity. An unreasonably long wait time. This was the longest amount of time I have ever had to wait for nigiri, not sushi, not entrées from the kitchen that need to be cooked. Just raw fish on rice and it took approximately 30 minutes, 27 to be exact. I tried to be understanding but I genuinely cannot comprehend why it took so long being that I was the only person sitting in the restaurant for the majority of that time. Only 2 other tables were wrapping up and closing out when I came in. 100% the chef's fault too, the front of house was doing the best they could but there definitely could've been better communication as well. I don't know if they were having an off day but half an hour for 9 pieces of fish for $43 is ridiculous. The quality of the fish was mediocre at that too. Excellent food: I really like the house salad. It comes in bowl and good to share if you are getting multiples rolls with it. Add some chicken in the salad to make it a more filling item. The scallop tataki roll was delicious and had the perfect kick to it. The Kimmie roll was amazing - who knew some crumbled bacon would be a great ingredient in sushi? Tofu agedashi was delicious too! Sushi Q gets packed very quickly so it is very common for them to have a waitlist. On the day I went, I unfotunately waited 40 min to get food on my table. So they charge you $1 for "to-go" orders. It's not the $1 that got me, but the surprise of the fee on my receipt. It's not on the menu that I saw online. Not sure what constitutes the fee...it wasn't a special organic container or something. As for the food, it really wasn't all that. Yes, I asked for no avocado due to allergies, but the taste really wasn't something I would rave about and go back to. I ordered a dragon roll and spicy tuna roll. I usually would prefer my rolls to have some taste or sauce to enhance the roll, otherwise I would order a nigiri sushi to taste the old school no sauce meal. For me, my order just didn't excite me. Sushi Q has quickly become my new favorite sushi spot. All of the rolls have unique flavors; my favorites are the Scampi and the Aviana. The toro maki was so good, I like how they keep the toro in a whole piece instead of mincing it. But my FAVORITE things from here were the tuna blossom, and the small sashimi platter! The tuna blossom is so refreshing and delicious. The tuna is super fresh, and there are a bunch of toppings that go really well with it. I saw at least 3 other tables order it. The small sashimi platter was not only beautiful, but also incredibly tasty. They added fresh wasabi, seaweed salad, calamari salad, and some jelly fish. I love that they add these little sides, so you don't get tired of having straight fish. Plus, they topped some of the sashimi with sliced onions and some with a drizzle of chili oil. The toppings went really well with each specific fish. Keep in mind that the service is can be really SLOW, but the food is good. They even have some flavors of Gunther's ice cream here for dessert, including the 50/50 fruit freeze. read more

This restaurant was so memorable and yummy that I came out of my Yelp review hiatus just to write this one because it was just. that. good. The toro was so fresh and fatty, and it fr glistened off that plate. Servings were very generous for the nigiri, they even add a little piece of toro and waygu in addition to the nigiri pieces which I've never seen at any other sushi spot! We decided that it was cool and said next time we come back we'd order it. But to our astonishment the chefs handed us a plate of firefly squid nigiri! They said they heard us talking about the dish and provided it to us on the house. We were truly shocked because we didn't even know they heard us talk about it. It was genuinely so kind of them and the dish was great! Top notch hospitality. Overall: - This place truly hit the big 3 for me when it came to food taste, service and vibes. Sushi Q in Elk Grove was a big miss for me. I gave it two separate chances because I kept hearing people say it was good, and honestly, the second visit was even worse than the first. At this point, I feel pretty confident saying it is not for me. The biggest issue is the fish. It just tastes off. There is a strong fishy flavor that you should not be getting from sushi that is supposed to be fresh. That alone is hard to overlook. Even the smaller things were not right. The miso soup, which should be simple and comforting, tasted strange and overdone. It felt like they were trying too hard to elevate something that should not need it, and it ended up missing the mark. The menu itself is pretty typical for a sushi spot in this area, but nothing really stood out in a good way. If anything, it just highlighted how underwhelming the execution was across the board. I ended up spending around 150 dollars across both visits, which makes it even more disappointing. I really wanted to like it, especially after hearing people recommend giving it another shot, but it just did not deliver. This is a 1 out of 5 for me. There are too many better sushi options around Elk Grove to settle for this. read more

Staffs all welcome you and when you exit, which is always so warming whenever I visit. The food is consistent and they serve some of the freshest quality fish Price is reasonable $$ They have a section by the bar to sit by the chefs and i had the opportunity to sit a few times. This place is good for small groups but not necessarily big groups if you're planning to dine in. You get seated fast and food is served in adequate time. Staffs make sure to come around and check in. While at the bar, the chefs will take your order directly and prepare it right before you and hand it to you. The service was very good except we ordered a hand roll and they delivered the wrong sushi roll to our table. It then took over 15 minutes to get the correct hand roll. The server took the wrong roll back and the manager yelled at the server for the mix up in front of everybody. SO NOT COOL! Everybody makes mistakes and our party did not appreciate him yelling at her. To top it off the manager and the sushi makers were drinking shots while they were making the sushi, thats very unhygienic and I didn't agree with that practice. The service was quick and we ordered and received our food within 10-15 minutes of being seated. The fish is pretty fresh and the rolls taste great! They also gave a lot of ginger and wasabi on the side. I'd definitely recommend getting the Torch and Ziggy rolls! We tried these and Tastes like Chicken (we wanted something different from the rest...). All were yummy but might pass on the Tastes like Chicken next time only because I think there are better options! Sushi Q has great tasting food, friendly staff and though sometimes busy it's always worth the wait. I've tried a few of their menus and they all did not disappoint. From the Chef's Choice Chirashi to the lunch box specials (3 pc albacore is the best!) to my favorite roll they offer -- the Elk Grove roll. The Elk Grove roll has several GENEROUS pieces of BBQ Albacore on top of the roll, priced at $26 it's one roll that i'd say is actually worth the price. I usually end up eating half and saving the rest for later. The fish in the Chirashi bowl always taste fresh and the BBQ albacore is seared to perfection.
