I went in just as they were opening. I received a friendly welcome. I ordered Sesame chicken which came with rice and salad. Everything was very tasty. The spot is nicely decorated, clean and designed to make ordering easy. Parking can be a challenge as it is a small strip of businesses. It looks as though most of their business is carry out. I always get the spicy honey chicken. It has heaping portions of chicken so there's definitely more than enough to save for later. It has a huge amount of rice which I love. The glaze on the chicken is perfect so it's super flavorful in every bite. And it comes with a little salad which I tend to sub out for rice. Beware!! they have hair in the food and then treat you as if you're lying about it. They did give a refund only after I told them I would be posting my review. Not only is this restaurant just down the street from my house but it's as good as any teriyaki joint I've tried around Sac. In the pursuit of healthy options in the neighborhood, we found CJ's. The menu is simple and exceeded out expectations. My favorite is the spicy honey chicken plate. It's served on a bed of piping hot white rice with a small side salad with ranch dressing. The chicken comes in small strips. It is delicious with a little bite. I hate leaving a bad review tasted OK their sauce is good but it said it was vegetables and there's just a little bit of lettuce with some shredded cabbage and carrots. read more

I started coming here due to a friend's recommendation. Turns out to be a little spot right off Freeport, kind of close to the Izakaya spot. I like the fact that it isn't a chain teriyaki type of deal, and I noticed it with the service & food. I usually order the chicken teriyaki plate with extra chicken (for a couple more bucks). I feel it comes out to about 8-10oz of chicken thigh, which really isn't bad considering most places its typically around 6oz of meat. The chicken is grilled nicely, great textural balance and color. It'll come out without sauce, which I highly prefer because other places will just drench your chicken with sauce. I'm always happy with the portions that I receive here and the food quality is consistent. The owner is a nice guy that is willing to answer any questions you might have about the menu. No. No and No. I don't usually write reviews, but every once in awhile there comes along a place that just gets to me; good or bad - and I have to say something. Today it was all BAD....there has to be something better in the area than this. I ordered a regular, chicken teriyaki bowl. Simple enough, but it was probably the worst teriyaki bowl I've had - EVER!!! There was maybe 1/2 of what may have been a boneless chicken thigh but it was pounded super thin and then cut into the skinniest strips ever and laid on top of the rice as if to look like it was taking up more real estate in the bowl than it really was. More than 2/3 of the bowl was rice + some wilted cabbage and a small amount of teriyaki sauce. I asked for a small container of extra sauce and some Siracha and the gentleman at the counter looked at me as I were robbing the place. He said, "there's sauce on there already," and I said, "well, I need more" and he just looked so annoyed. Instead of putting it in a container, he opened my bowl and squirted more on top of my chicken. By the time I got back to work, it had all but disappeared into the mountain of rice they had given me. Oh, and do not ask for a cup for ice. Now you're just doing too much. How do you mess up a bowl of rice and grilled chicken? read more

Stopped in for lunch. Friendly staff opened the doors 5 minutes early for me. Very cool. Cashier rang me up wrong and over charged me $1. I mentioned the error and she quickly corrected the mistake. I ordered the honey spicy popcorn chicken plate. No indoor dining due to COVID restrictions. Only the spicy honey sauce in the Togo box. No teriyaki which would have been nice. This is a pretty tasty joint for fast food Japanese. I'm a little disappointed that their prices have gone up, but it's still good. The gyoza is nice and crispy. The beef noodles (it's udon, but they don't call it that) are pretty good when paired with a little bit of the teriyaki. Said teriyaki is a little on the sweet side, though, so be warned if that's not your jam. Occasionally the noodles can be a little overdone, but they're generally decent. The sauce for the tempura wasn't as flavorful as I prefer, but the tempura itself wasn't bad. I'm glad that the vegetables weren't hella underdone. I can't stand half cooked tempura battered broccoli. The shrimp tempura was really good. The sauce that comes with the gyoza is a sweet chili type sauce, and it pairs really well with the tempura. If you're into spice, I recommend asking for some of that instead. The wait is a little slow. I highly recommend calling and ordering ahead of time. All in all, a solid choice for quick teriyaki. read more

CJ'S teriyaki is a very great place, they have really great teriyaki plates and if you love spicy food try the honey spicy chicken plate comes with a great amount of chicken and some yummy white rice, does have a side salad aswell . They also have some simple sushi and noodles. They are very friendly people and been at the location for a long time. read more

I really like this place. Here are the reasons why: 1. The teriyaki chicken rice bowls/plates I've ordered were always delicious, filling, and fresh. I have never found a hair or any other unwanted item in my food. 5 stars for quality. 2. The owners is a very nice guy. He's friendly, so this makes me more willing to come back. I like supporting the businesses of nice people. 3. It's close to work, and doesn't take too long to prepare the food when I'm on my 30 minute lunch break and need something yummy in a jiffy. You can even call in. 4. It's been clean every time I came. Sure, there aren't usually many people in there at once, but it seems more take-out oriented. We have had Teriyaki Chicken Bowls/Plates Teriyaki Salmon (sauce on side) Veggie tempura Gyoza The food is good... when it's right. Have had more than one occasion getting our Teriyaki chicken without the teriyaki and the gyoza without sauce an Most times we aren't given soy sauce even when we have asked. So needless to say we are sitting with dry plates/bowls. It's kind of annoying. We have asked to be sure there is sauce in our togo orders and told there is. 3* because it's happened 3 times now. read more
