Jasper reminds me a lot of the brown cafes you see in Amsterdam, little holes in the wall where its calm and quiet and you can drink without interruption. The whole concept of this place is really cool, as they are paying homage to a famed Richmond bartender. The decor is beautiful and the ambiance is spot on. The have a cocktail list full of things that I have never heard of/tried, as well a decent amount of beer and wine to choose from. I came opening weekend so it was really laid back. I'm sure once word gets out about this place it will be a lot more packed, but it's a cool place that I'd definitely recommend grabbing a drink at. read more

I highly recommend The Jasper to anyone looking to meet up with friends and hang out in a casual and fun environment. The service is friendly and confident and the drink list is wide so you can have a canned beer or a fancy cocktail or choose from a great selection of wines. This is definitely a place that's been missing in Richmond for a while, because you can catch up with friends but aren't restricted to the time and formalities of a place that is centered around dinner service. Well, this could be dangerous: a Fourth Regiment cocktail with an order of the house-made pretzel bread, served with a wonderfully briny nori butter. Find this on a corner table while seated at a comfy banquette, just after work and before this warm, smartly-dressed, inviting room has filled up... 'cause it will fill up... and you have the perfect way to start any night of the week. Our server was super friendly and real, the music complemented the vibe without competing, and the whole place had an energy, a polish, and a welcome I've rarely felt in Richmond. I wanted to like this place so, so much since they just won some kind of an award, but. So we went to thier 'miracle on cary st' pop up holiday themed bar, still at the same location I think. Huge line out front, which ain't their fault, but its still not fun waiting a while in the cold dead of winter night. Inside was lit up so nicely, loved the lights and Christmas decor. We sat in the back of the place which had leather seating and looked very swanky, seemed like the VIP section of a club, and we did not have to pay any extra to sit there. Our waitress was not the most attentive, which makes sense since the place was slammed, but still not the best experience when you are out. The drinks were alright, but were a good but smaller than I expected. In fact its probably the smallest drinks I've ever had in any bar ever, and the prices were up there for what it was - $9-13 per cocktail, for the world's smallest sized cocktail. We had this thing called the reindeer pate which was pork and venison I think, which I like fine but was also small and around $9 or so. Overall the decor and atmosphere was great, but the wait time to get in, the small drinks, the okay food, I don't know, it was not what I expected when I waited so long in that cold line, you know? read more

My experience at this place is extremely horrible. The staff here is unwelcoming, rude and have worst customer service.

We went just for after dinner drinks. The service was great, the drinks were STRONG and delicious. My only complaint is that it was really loud (is my age showing?) ... it felt sort of like a speakeasy theme and I would have enjoyed being able to hear our friends we were with. The Jasper is a brilliant place to go for a very well done cocktail. I get a big city bar feel in an intimate setting with fair pricing. I think it's a great date night spot, or a nice place to bring visitors. It's something different for Richmond. You can tell that each drink on the menu was carefully thought out, they all have fun names too! I have yet to try a drink I didn't like from Jasper. I've been here twice! Definitely love the quoit club punch drink! They serve fancy cocktails. And food is more appetizers/ sides. I haven't ordered any of those because the first time I was just drinking and the second time there were roaches! Not the small ones but the big ones. My hubby and I love this place! It's a fancy-ish cocktail bar without the snobby attitude. Their cocktails are great (I tried my first-ever mint julep here and it was amazing!), and so is the pretzel. It comes with creamy nori butter and a fresh and delicious mustard. The staff are also so friendly and the decor is really fun and relaxing. Also, there is no sign outside except a sign that says "bar," which makes the experience more fun since you feel like you are in a hidden place not everyone knows about! read more

Best bar in Richmond. Ask for a Manhattan and you won't be disappointed. My wife didn't know what she wanted, explained her tastes to the bartender and he nailed it. This is a great drinkers bar especially if you want a real drink. read more

Place was hopping on Saturday but we managed to get a table for six without too much trouble. The drinks were all great and we had a variety of them. I mostly drank an Irish Coffee which was delicious. We also got some of the cheddar + jerky and pretzel bread. The bread was some of the best I've had. This was honestly not good. I was so disappointed. It looked really promising from reviews. I walked in and was hit in the face with an intense smell of garbage. Like literally hot garbage on the curb waiting to be picked up in the middle of summer smell. Not good. I ordered the Caribbean Kween which was good but my bf ordered the Draft Zombie which was downright vile. It was so boozy it was not even drinkable. My bf is not a stranger to boozy drinks, nor am I. But this took it to another level. It was downright nasty. On top of it, we had to endure the smell of garbage the entire time. Very cool vibe. The drinks were interesting and delicious. However, the bartender was painstakingly inattentive. The entire staff seemed rather content chatting with folks they clearly knew, and we felt rather invisible with empty glasses in front of us. We were looking for the check, but I'm surprised we weren't even asked if we wanted another round. We needed to actively get the bartender's attention on a not at all crowded Sunday night just to ask to cash out (and that was the only interaction with the bartender since right after receiving our drinks). This made for a pretty disappointing experience at what could have been a pretty cool cocktail bar. read more

I went to Jasper and was very pleased with the experience. While I was reluctant at first to get one of the pricey cocktails, the drinks are pretty good here. If you do not want to spend a lot on drinks, there are reasonably priced domestic beers and they have a good deal in which you can get a shot of rum and a glass of beer for 7 dollars. Additionally, the customer service here was excellent. The staff was very friendly and helpful. read more

I have yet to try my drink. I walked in the door and realized that the place was busy because of its popularity and had waited patiently a good 10 minutes to order my drink at the bar because there were no tables. A large party who was taking up three tables left and my boyfriend separated the tables so that more people could sit comfortably in the booths. I was finally able to order my drinks as this was happening. A waitress walked up to me not two seconds after I had ordered my drinks at the bar and as my boyfriend had gotten a table and said " you do know that waitress will bring you your drinks." I'm not going to let this one waitress ruin this first experience and look forward to my drink and future visits. But please talk to your staff about respect. read more

What can I say... the music choices r super weird and awkward but funny... the bartenders r veterans who invented their own cocktails that r variations of popular drinks.. the vibe is different, very laid back, u can talk to strangers, bartenders r super friendly and r willingly to explain cocktails and joke around and even cure embarassing hickups if u have one... its so down to earth and yet refined and refreshing.. the bathroom and overall design are beautiful and artistic... probably one of the best cocktail bars richmond has to offer even tho its been around 5 months... come check it out for poor souls who need healing ;) read more
