Terrific diner. A great addition to Riverdale! Clean, well-lit and good food. It is a vast improvement over its predecessor.

It's really nice to have a new, fresh diner in Riverdale. My husband and I like coming here for quick bunch dates. I'd have given them 5 stars but I think the food quality is declining a little bit since when they first opened. I always order the eggs Benedict. The first time, perfect! The second time, my eggs were over poached, the third time, my eggs were under cooked (the egg whites were runny) and the sauce was broken and cold. :/ The service is great and I think this is definitely the best diner in Riverdale. I just hope they stay on top of the classics. read more

The totally refurbished diner is a welcome sight for the neighborhood. The place is well laid out, all booths and a full-length counter. The staff is friendly and efficient. The menu is sandwiches and full entrees. The prices are fair, and portions are abundant. The 8oz hamburger was cooked perfectly, and the turkey dinner was moist and tasty. The spanakopita was good with a nice salad. Breakfast is served all day. We will go back soon. read more

I am so excited for a new local diner spot and to have drinks is even better. Yes I went there on their 3rd day being open was is it perfect? No but they have amazing potential. They were absolutely slammed when I came in and yes our orders took a while but what made it a great experience was our waitress Amelie (I think that's her name) was incredible and sweet and apologized for the wait, it happens especially when a place is BRAND NEW! the calamari came out awesome my breakfast burger once it came out HIT THE SPOT! The eggs was cooked to perfection for me and I really loved how the bacon was cooked with the right amount of crunch without it being burnt. Love the lights at the bar the photos they did a great job upgrading the place from the old blue bay diner. Also their espresso martini made me very very happy!! Great job! read more

What a great addition to the neighborhood!! I'm so happy to welcome them and wish them much success. The food and menu are great, lots of choices and everything was delicious!! Prices are very good! The bill came to 80 dollars for four people, including all our beverages (non-alcoholic). Staff is super friendly, polite, and very welcoming. The restaurant is fresh, clean, and bright yet still has a nostalgic feel of the old Blue Bay which I'm sure brings back fond memories to many people. Will be returning often. On Friday my office placed an order for lunch delivery for five people. We called at about 11:15AM, because it is a doctor's office and we needed a place capable of preparing and delivering so we'd be finished by the time our 1PM patient arrived. Out of salmon, no fish delivery yet! One replacement choice. Beef Gyro. Out of brisket. Third option a California wrap as two of us had already ordered. Order arrived quickly but what an inedible experience. The wraps are supposed to have grilled chicken and avocado with some lettuce and ranch dressing. There was hardly any avocado and what was on the sandwich was disgusting, spoiled, gray/brown pieces that no one would eat. What a disgrace to send food in this condition that anyone would throw out at home. And the ranch dressing had no flavor. They offered to remake the wraps but it was too late and would not trust the integrity of this place ever again. I have tried them a couple of times since they took over from Blue Bay to give them a shot, and they don't even know what a GRILLED CHEESE sandwich is! This place is good but be careful when paying. The staff will automatically enable at default all tipping to 20% and swipe your card for the 20% if you're not paying attention. I've seen them doing it at waited service, which I adjusted accordingly to the service I received , and they did it to me when I ordered something as simple as a beverage at the counter...the waitress asked me to tap to pay and quickly clicked the 20% tip as i was focusing on tapping properly. She did it so quick and without consent that it felt very dishonest. So when I go here now, I make sure I'm watching the checkout process like a hawk. read more

The renovation is lovely. The diner is bright, has b & w framed posters of typical NY genre. We went to a late lunch. Our server, Seth was outstanding, friendly, knowledgeable, personable and in general just a great conversationalist. He served our needs well and it was as if he read our minds.... The Cheesesteak eggroll was delicious and great presentation along with a generous portion. My turkey burger was seasoned well and the house salad was fresh, tasty and the salad dressing was made in the restaurant. My husband ordered the crispy chicken and bacon...with French fried. Wow! Tasty, tasty and plentiful. We had to take food home. We will be going back as soon as possible. read more

We've been there several times and it is certainly an upgrade over Blue Bay. Interesting menu with good food from burgers on up. But - - - the owner needs customer service training. A family member was in there for lunch and he virtually ignored them and treated them very rudely, getting on the phone when he should've been serving them. the location is spacious and clean, we were seated quickly, and the staff is fairly attentive. the menu is far more limited than i'd expect from a "diner". The food wasn't particularly fresh or well seasoned and the portions aren't great for the price. Our waiter asked us multiple times if he could have our salt, hot sauce, and ketchup to give to another table. When I needed ketchup, he had to take it from the neighboring table. Just super. Very attentive service from Sean, and from the conversations Jimmy was having with the locals who came in for takeout, this will be a place that really cares about its clientele. My wife and I came in for a maiden visit, and we were just about stunned by the freshness of the ingredients (split pea soup, chicken kabob, Greek salad with falafel). If you're tired of tired diner food where everything seems to go straight from freezer to fryer, this is the antidote. Just had brunch there. I'd give it a D minus. Eggs and pancakes. The pancakes tasted like paste. Couldn't finish them. Somehow the eggs- which did come out over easy, as asked- were very small. Bacon had a funny taste. My friend had spinach pie. She said the spinach was ok, but the crust, which was supposed to be soft and delicate, was very hard. She just scooped out the spinach. This place is just as bad or worse than the place it replaced, Blue Bay. Going back to Tibbetts diner. Infinitely better and in the neighborhood. I really was hopeful that my neighborhood would finally have a quality diner, but the service completely ruined the experience. I waited over an hour and a half for a meal that still hasn't come before I had to ask to take it off the bill. The rest of my table had already eaten and I was given no updates on my food until I asked. The fries I snacked on were decent, but that's the most I can say about the place. At least there are a few decent options further down on Broadway, but for now I say pass on this place until they figure out a better system from kitchen to table. read more

When it came out I could see that the scrambled eggs came out with no cheddar cheese on it was cooked too over done and looked hard and the corn-beef hash and hash browns were undercooked and mushy instead of well done. I informed the owner and he said he would credit me back on my Chase card instead of them making me a whole new order as I had wanted. He still has not been processed my credit for the incorrect order and when I try calling them it goes to voicemail no one answers the phone?? Nice addition to the neighborhood Old blue bay. Service was friendly. Food quality was very good as were the portions. Prices were fair for Riverdale. Calamari was excellent. Only issue was ordering cocktails. Seems there is confusion between wait staff and bartender on who delivers cocktails to tables. But once you get them they are decent. Chicken parm was one small fillet and alot of pasta. I will go again and try other dishes. Work in progress but I think overall pretty good read more

Had breakfast once and enjoyed it. I had to repeatedly ask for my toast but I also realize the place was packed and they seemed a bit under staffed. The diner is very nice on the inside. Came to have breakfast with my husband on another day and they were still not opened. It was 8:30 am. Unfortunately they do not open until 9 am. My wife and I visited a few days after they opened. I decided to do my "diner test" by ordering a burger and fries. My feeling is that if a diner can't make a tasty burger and fries then they have no hope. I'm happy to say the Johnsnon Diner passed my test! Great burger and fries (which were perfectly crisp!). I also want to mention my wife is vegan and very picky about ordering food. Though the diner doesn't have any vegan options, they had no problem accommodating her needs by not including any dairy on her order. They owners also did a great job remodeling the place. Great and well needed addition to the neighborhood. We can all agree that Johnson Ave needs an upgrade and this place is younger and hipper, offering a more streamlined menu and a full bar. Yes, they need to sort out some kinks, as they were slammed, but I won't hold that against them. Bad reviews over the first few weeks are tone deaf in my opinion. I went to this place today for the first time and it was amazing! There was a wait, so we sat at the bar. The waitress Giselle was amazing, she was very personable and funny. The food was really good as well, my cousin and I both got omelette along with the French toast bites which were to die for. We also ordered expresso martinis which I was skeptical about at first given that this is a diner, but OMG it was great! What was the most amazing, was the bill!
