Apparently my husband has been here a million times without me, but I somehow managed to experience Joy Bus Diner for the first time a few weeks ago. It's a bit of a hole-in-the-wall, hidden away in a strip mall, and you really have to know where to look, which makes it hard to just stumble upon the place. What a gem, though! There's not many solid diners in Phoenix, but Joy Bus definitely qualifies. We experienced excellent service, diner coffee, and some killer entrees- try the chorizo and eggs or the breakfast burrito! Very friendly and fun vibe. A hip take on 70s culture. We each had Delicious and fresh Reubens. Meat was some of the best Reuben meat we've had, although I'd love a little more sauerkraut. Love that it is a nonprofit too. We will return. read more

Wow breakfast was amazing. I have been wanting to try this place for years and I am now mad I didn't go sooner. Such a treat. My husband and I shared their special today, brisket with hash and rosemary roasted potatoes and their twist on biscuits and gravy. The gravy had turmeric in it and wow what a blast of flavor. DO NOT GET THE LEMON CREAM PANCAKES!!! They are so beyond salty. Add in the bacon or sausage on top and it's a salt fest in your mouth. No amount of maple syrup was able to take away the salt from the pancakes. The pancakes were salty, the cream was salty, and the bacon was salty. The only palatable thing were the blueberries. I'm hoping the workers taste their own food because they clearly don't. What a shame because the dish has potential. I didn't completely knock it down to one star because the service was friendly but holy cow the workers here need to taste their food before serving! Because those were the saltiness pancakes I ever had! I came here because it said it was partly owned by the same owner as the gladly and citizen and im a big fan of their food. However the food tastes nothing like those two restaurants here. This restaurant is lucky to have them because it's the only reason I'd come back again to give it another try. Cool place: a non profit restaurant supporting a good cause, and providing good food. The bacon is great and the avocado toast was good and on real bread not cheap toast. The only thing I would knock them for was the "fruit plate " was a cut-up, oxidized apple. Would come again. read more

Doesn't look like much when you walk past it but I was hungry and so decided to check this place out. I'm SO GLAD I did because their food is top notch!! Easily one of the best places I've been to for brunch in Phoenix. We got the Chilaquiles and Shakshooka since that was their daily special. Let me tell you that Shakshooka is outta this world! Get it! You will not regret it. The place itself is small, so be prepared to wait especially on the weekend. The service is decent. No complaints there. They are closed for all of July for renovations and deep cleaning but they should be back open in August of this year according to the waitress will definitely be back once they're open! read more

Nice quick and easy breakfast spot right off the 51 freeway/ Shea. Nice to find a breakfast place that does t have an hour wait on a Sunday! It has a great mission statement for the purpose off there business and what it's all for. That makes it even better for eating here! This was our first time so we will need to expand more on menu to see what's what. The chicken and biscuit sandwich looked HUGE will have to try next time. read more

So the idea of the joybus is great, being able to send 100% of the proceeds to cancer patients is a noble cause, but for the price of what I payed for it lacked that wow fact.. I ordered a simple omelette with two burger patties on the side. Not only did I get charged for a meal for the burger patties but the burgers themselves lacked any flavored and honestly was dry. I do not recommend this place. I like the fact they give back to cancer patients but the food at this location is not real healthy. The drinks are laced with high Fructose Corn Syrup. My friends and I all tried different things and shared them all. Everyone liked the pancakes we got it without the added powdered sugar on top. The lemon curd was way too sweet for my liking. Wish they had healthier drink items. the other reviews also mentioned the unhealthiness of this restaurant as well. The wait staff were nice. Two stars for the wait staff. read more

This place is totally overhyped. The food is just ok. I ordered the eggs Benedict and they were seriously undersauced, like couldn't even see it. My mother's food came out cold and they had to bring her a new plate. The waffle was just bad. Better waffles at a hotel breakfast. Also menu said waffles were served with fruit...two thin slices of orange was all it came with. I'd prefer a chain like Black Bear Diner to this place. They gave us a $5 off coupon but I left it at the table because I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here. I thought the purpose that the Joy Bus diner stands for was great! Customers can enjoy a great meal at a great price and benefit non profit all together! I found the portion here to be quite large...and being used to living in high COL area, the very reasonable bill was also nice. We got a burrito and Green Chilies and Steak Benedict sandwich and I thought the food was just ok. They were a little bland though..but hey... because the ideal purpose of how this restaurant go started...I bumped the rating up a star. Personally..it's a great place to come and support your community. I was glad I checked it out..but because the food there didn't quite sand out, maybe next time I'm in the area..I may want to check out other places unless someone in my party wants to check out this place again. read more

First time trying out the Joybus Diner. The ambiance was nice, the servers were friendly, but that's where it ended. I ordered the cheeseburger because the waitress said I wouldn't be disappointed. This is where it turned to not so good. The burger came out and I noticed blood dripping down the side. About half of my burger was raw. There was also no seasoning whatsoever on the burger. The bun was also very thick. Bun to burger ratio was terrible. The fries were also underwhelming and the ketchup was overly sweet. Service was a bit on the slow side. Not sure if I'll be returning, but that burger is a complete no go. read more
