Really bad customer service :( I came to pick up my order at the agreed upon time, only to find the restaurant doors closed (this was despite a sign hanging outside saying they were open until 8pm, my order pick up time that was happening then, or the multiple people inside). There were people inside, both waitresses and men seated at the table, who saw me at the door but ignored my knocking for a long time. Then one of the men gawking at me from inside came up and (still not opening the door) said "we're closed". I said I had an order to pick up, and I was still left locked out until the waitresses served the men, and only then one finally approached the door and let me in. It was very unpleasant being left locked out for a long time and having the men gawking at me and ignoring me at the door with my confirmed order. Food tasted so so. And there was another woman who came around the same time as me who was treated similarly poorly. We were very disappointed. read more

Don't miss this one!!! The food is insanely fresh and delicious, the service is warm and welcoming, and it is easily our new obsession! Friends told us about Sasa, and we decided to try it for lunch. The lentil soup is out of this world - perfectly seasoned. I had the falafel salad - it was massive! The falafel were light and fluffy on the inside and nice and crunchy on the outside, and not greasy at all. I haven't had falafel this good since I was in Tel Aviv years ago. Hubby had the gyro plate which was enough food for two! Everything was so tasty! My mom had the gyro sandwich which was stuffed with meat on the fluffiest pita. Locally well priced and great proportioned Greek food. My friend and I both ordered what the other person preferred. He appreciated the falafel and I loved his shawarma plate along with the pita and hummus that I got. We were gifted amazing soup and desserts while we waited which really made an impression. It felt homie and very clean inside. These people care about their restaurant. Unfortunately I will take off a star because we waited for awhile, even with their apology, and his food didn't come with a pita as it showed on their photo. I really wanted to try the baklava and not only did I try the baklava which was delicious and decadent but also Abby greeted me with a sample of her creation of a cream filled phyllo dough pastry. Literally one of the best baba ganoush and hummus I have had in the states. Do not skip out on these two!!! I came mostly for the sides and didn't order meat dishes, so can't comment on that, but the baba ganoush is so lovely. There are some eggplant chunks, which I loved (most places blend it pretty finely). And it's not too sour/acidic like some other places tend to make it. Just perfect for my taste. Hummus flavor leans heavy on the tahini side, but I also like mine like that! Super creamy. Each side comes with 1 pita, which is a pretty large piece. And finally, lots of dessert to choose from! I really wanted to love this place as it is conveniently located and has decent parking. I usually get the hamburger meat kebab, which they call Kofta beef skewers. I saw the description and is seemed to be cubideh or at least similar. Well, the plate includes 2 pieces of the meat and they were small compared to other places. Also, they did not have much flavor/onion/spices and were quite lean. I do like meat just with salt, so that was OK, but I was expecting a much more flavorful (and bigger) skewers. The meat was quite dry/lean but I am still giving 4 starts because it was a decent meal and the staff was very friendly. I placed the order in a rush and picked up in a rush. I do remember seeing the option for the meat temperature when I was going to order earlier, and I thought about selecting medium or medium well, but I do not remember making a selection, so I do not know if I am confused about it or if it defaulted to well done and I did not notice. I did like the addition of hummus to the plate, and the salad was good. Also, the rice was not my favorite, it had sort of a sweetness to it, I think it tasted like cardamom, which I was not expecting. I will try to stop by with more time and chat with the staff and ask some questions to see if I can find another favorite because I ordered what I always order at mediterranean places and it did not go well. What a lovely charming local ethnic restaurant! We visited for lunch with a 4-year-old after swim lessons at nearby Hubbard family swim school. Well standing in line looking at the menu, she managed to tip over all of the velvet ropes, their plastic stanchions are top-heavy and quite a hazard in the lobby. Does foot traffic really justify this clap trap? Two employees watched us struggle to right then, one was literally standing right there and did nothing. The child could have been hurt, so this needs to be addressed. Our cashier was very smiley but seemed not to understand any of my questions. In the menu pictures they show the gyros as a pressed and formed prefab sheet not shaved. So I didn't order gyros. I chose the chicken shawarma plate but didn't understand it came with items (besides salad and rice) which I could not eat due to diet restrictions. I would not have paid for a platter with giant Pita and hummus, I would have gotten a simpler dish which I could have eaten fully. The chicken was very tender and the shawarma was more deeply seasoned than I am accustomed to. However, I really prefer white meat and I believe this was dark. I am thankful it was not covered with the traditional mayonnaise shawarma sauce. It was on the side. I'd much prefer tzatziki unfortunately I did not know to ask for it. The rice was fluffy basmati and they generously brought lentil soup for the table to start the meal. The preschooler devoured two soups and our hostess was so amused she brought more for us to take to go. My companion ordered a beef shawarma platter and was very happy with her choice, it was shaved ground meat as I would have expected the gyros to be! We all had leftovers, my husband had an entire meal off mine. So the value is high even if your entree is $17. I would like to see lunch specials, or smaller versions made available on the menu! Well, first impressions as you walk in the door is amazing,,, larger than you think from outside, colorful umbrellas hanging from the ceiling and the smell of incredible fresh prepared sweets, almonds, pistachios honey and flaky pastries! Reminding me of that section in Puerto Rico where ppl take pictures. As for the food: Beef/lamb Gyro: I was say 9/10, the basmati turmeric rice was a little tough, could be due to overcooking or less water, but overall great. The meat seasoning had a good flavor and definitely you can't taste the gaminess from the lamb. Chicken Shawarma: I will give this 8.5/10, as the flavor of the chicken was great but a tad bit dry. Sasa is a hidden gem in paradise valley. We immediately saw wide spread of desserts as we entered. But we were focused on getting lunch. We settled on chicken shawarma and beef gyro. Chicken was chopped into smaller pieces so I assumed it would be dry, but I was so wrong. It was so moist and flavorful. Even the salad was freshly chopped. The hummus and eggplant sample they gave us was so delicious. The pita bread was served warmed too. Hubby really enjoyed his beef gyro sandwich. The meat was so juicy and yummy. Tucked away in a residential neighborhood is a family restaurant with great Mediterranean Style restaurant. We were visiting from out of state. We had heard that Mediterranean style foods are much healthier than other cuisines. The menu of foods exceeded expectations. The portions were generous and the price was right! They keep drenching it in sooo much syrup and that my baklava is extremely soggy and not crunchy at all. They've been doing this for a bit now and I think it's a new thing. They didn't used to do this. Now it's overly sweet, so soggy that it's melting from the vast amount of syrup, no crunch whatsoever, and it's just so disappointing. You can't even taste the pistachio anymore. You just taste syrup and soggy paper. The philo is no longer crunchy and has this weird papery texture. It's so sweet and sticky that it's hurting my brain. I love baklavas and I especially love pistachio desserts. I also love supporting small businesses. I'm not going to go here anymore. What is this heavenly place?! We attend Hubbard Swim School on Thursday evenings and our little 17 month old sometimes has post-swim hanger issues, so we're always on the lookout for nearby restaurants to grab a quick dinner. We saw Sasa Restaurant the other day and decided to swing on in. Sasa has beef shawarma wraps so good that you'll forget you're in the middle of Phoenix (get the garlic sauce side!). To give you an idea of the true level of amazingness of these wraps, we ate here on Thursday evening. My husband drove from downtown Phoenix on his break on Friday, the very next day, to get a shawarma wrap for lunch. It's that good. We also tried some of the other meat through the Combo Grill dish, and it was all delicious. Sasa definitely feels family-owned, and some of the workers were playing peek-a-boo from behind the counter to distract our child while the food was being prepped. If you're here, don't skip out on dessert. An extremely kind woman (maybe an owner?) brought out a box of sweets for us to take home as we were leaving and she had the best baklava in the world in that box - and I've spent time in Turkey. Food: The beef kabob was tender, melt in your mouth delicious. The chicken tikka on the other hand was overcooked and a bit tough. I wouldn't order it again and would go with the chicken shawarma. The hummus was pretty good, but the rice needs some work: it was clumpy and lacked flavor. I was expecting traditional Persian Basmati rice that is cooked with saffron, which was not the case. Walked in with a party of nine on Sunday afternoon, I had called to reserve a table a couple of days prior because that's a large party to show up in a small restaurant like Sasa. They were not ready for us and didn't seem to even know that I had made a reservation. Luckily there were tables they could put together and that all worked itself out without problem. Prices are very reasonable, they gave us a free drink and a free dessert which was super nice! My food, kafta kabob plate, was delicious. Hummus was fresh. Rice fabulous. I would have given this place four stars if I had not tasted my friend's food, beef Schwarma. While it looked delicious it was dry and salty so disappointing she couldn't even eat it. Neither could her husband or me. One of the wait staff picked up plates and noticed all the food and asked about it but did not offer to refund her her money or prepare something else. Huge fan of Sabas Kitchen but they aren't open on Sundays, which is why we went here. I'd like to say I'll come back, but the beef schwarma gives me pause. read more

I can say enough good things about this place. Food and service are 10/10. The family that runs it is always very nice and even though in a little extra treat with my baklava. I think I've tried almost everything on the menu and it's all delicious. The chicken shawarma is tender, moist and flavorful. The lamb is cooked perfectly and probably my favorite.
