    Calamari

On vacation and checked in to our hotel and the employee at the desk recommended this restaurant and gave us a 10% discount card for it. Joyce is my late mother's name. We came to Joyce's to try to watch the game and eat and they had no seats only standing room at the bar. We left and the hostess caught us walking down the street and said they found us a table. The restaurant was packed most people watching the Knicks and Spurs Finals basketball game. I ordered a Love's Old Sweet Song cocktail it was very good. I also had a turkey burger and fries and it was excellent. Best turkey burger I have ever eaten. Thick turkey patty that was moist and well seasoned. My husband had a cheeseburger and enjoyed it. My son had the calamari and he said it was very good. My other son also enjoyed his buffalo wings. We also had guacamole and chips and they were good. It also came with salsa that was not good. We had a good time watching the game, great vibes and enjoyed the food and drinks so we would definitely come back here when we are in town.

STEPH JUDGEMENT: In a town with no shortage of Irish pubs, this one has some extra stuff going for it. When I was perusing the google maps near our hotel, the name of this place stood out. I'd been to an Irish pub in Switzerland also with the name Joyce in it--he was actually buried in Zurich. The ratings looked favorable so we decided to check it out on the afternoon we got in. It was about 4:30, so Happy Hour had just started and the place was yet quite empty. It's huge, by the way, with charming Irish-style flourishes and decorations that was actually not cheesy. No huge st paddy's day countdown clock or shamrocks everywhere--dare I say it was kind of classy? We ordered: - Steamed Mussels with crostini (lots of plump mussels in a surprisingly spicy broth; the grilled crostini was meh, however) - Happy hour Mozzarella sticks (just ok) - Roasted cauliflower salad (delicious with lots of different elements and not overdressed) They had a sign saying "10% discount on all hotel guests". Not sure how much area the "all" encompasses, but we were staying a few doors down and got the discount. The food was just ok, but the ambiance, service, and discount put it up in the solid 4 star category for us!

One of the many wonderful things that New York has are Irish pubs. And the Joyce Public House is one of the good ones on West 39th Street closer to 8th Avenue than 9th. We grabbed a couple of high tops at the bar where we enjoyed some cocktails while the speakers played a barrage of 80s tunes. Their Irish coffee was stout and was a solid balance of whiskey and coffee dreams. Their Ruby Bloom was super good -- a little fruity and sweet but packs a punch between the whiskey, Aperol, and amaro used. My wife went for her standard G&Ts with different types of gin we hadn't has before like the HaPenny -- named after the famed bridge in Dublin. Our bartender was friendly and cheerful. I think she was from Ireland as well as the manager. Very fun bar to hand out for drinks, and their food menu looked solid even though we didn't eat there.

Delicious food as was the case last visit. Comfy, clean environment. Service was extremely slow however that was likely due to the influx of people from Comic Con, a big Soccer game, and a Lord of the Rings fan meetup taking up the back dining area. Overall, I would return but I admittedly did not have as great an experience as I did in August.

Our hotel was in the area so we decided to check this place out based on the great yelp reviews. We arrived around 4:30 on a Tuesday afternoon and the bar area was definitely very busy, but this location is quite large so there were plenty of seating options available if you wanted to have a beverage or want to grab some food. They do offer an extensive menu and while we were not looking for food, there are quite a few items on the menu that caught our eye. They do have two beers that are proprietary to the Joyce public house. One of them is an ale and the other is a lager. We were able to try both, but ultimately chose the ale. The Joyce lager was a little too hoppy for us. They do have a decent beer selection both on draft as well as in cans or bottles. They also offer a full bar Monday through Friday. They do offer happy hour from 4 to 7 PM so you can get a pint of beer for around six dollars if it is considered an import or five dollars if it is considered a domestic

I really enjoyed the $20 cheeseburger, which comes with fries. The burger was soft and fell apart in my hands when I ripped it into pieces. I ordered it medium-well with A1 sauce, and the fries had a crispy, crunchy outer shell with a soft potato center. I didn't order a drink, but I recommend this place for a small group of friends. It gets packed quickly. My only complaint is that I waited about 40 minutes for the burger. However, it was high quality, so I can't complain too much--but be prepared for a wait.

This Pub House was on the same street as our Hotel we were stuck at during the Blizzard. It did not disappoint. What a great place! Great comfort foods & fantastic bar. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of food & service. My friend had the mussels & Roasted Beets & Arugula salad. I had the short rib grilled cheese w/fries. I came back that same night & had their clam chowder w/a caesar salad. Really a great place with a well rounded menu.

Amazing "cheap eats" $12 Lunch Menu. I had Philly cheesesteak with delicious extra crunchy fries, and my friend had a mushroom fettuccine. Both were large American portions and is your waitress was sweet as can be. A great hidden gem for neighborhood foodies.

My friend and I came here for dinner. The interior looked really cool with nice, interesting decor. It was pretty spacious and had a chill vibe. I ordered the Double Cut Pork Chop, which was served with turnip purée, carrots, and apple bourbon glaze. That Pork Chop was huge, as well as thick. It was delightfully tender, juicy, and well seasoned. The carrots were cooked well, and the glaze was tasty, especially with the addition of apples. I wasn't a fan of the turnip puree, which had sort of an earthy taste. I would have preferred Truffle and Parmesan Fries. My friend and I shared the Molten Chocolate Cake with pistachio ice cream. This was quite yummy, but would have liked a bit more of a gooey chocolate filling. The chocolate cake was rich, sweet, while the ice cream was wonderfully nutty, creamy, and smooth. Service was pretty good. Prices were reasonable, especially considering the Midtown area. I would return to try the Pan Roasted Cod Fish with lobster mashed potatoes.

Tried to give this place another shot the drinks were good. We ordered a lava cake and it was drier than the Sahara dessert. The manager Joey thought we should pay for it even though we only had a spoon each. This manager needs to take some hospitality courses. Customers need to be treated better.

Mussels with a rich tomato and garlic wine sauce. Excellent!

I took my sister and my great nieces to see the Lion King on Broadway in NY. I decided to enjoy some "me time" after the show and I stopped by The Joyce on 39th St near Times Square to partake in happy hour. My server was really sweet and she recommended the mussels which is one of my favorite shell fish. The broth was rich with a garlic and tomato wine sauce served with grilled bread. I also enjoyed a few adult beverages. The atmosphere was laid back and chilled. It kinda had that nostalgic New York feel which I enjoyed.

Nice bar in midtown. Our group was able to set up off to the side and have a semi-private reunion. We ordered munchies like chicken fingers, loaded fries, fish tacos and artichoke dip. Service was good and they have a decent sized area in the restaurant.

A great spot to grab a drink and a bite to eat on 39th. We walked in from a nearby hotel and were happy with our experience.

Service from the bartender was great. I ordered the fish and chips and a Bloody Mary. Everything was great up till then. Unfortunately, the food was a disappointment. Maybe it was a deep fat fryer thing, but I respectfully suggest the cook be given a little additional training. The fish batter was hard on the outside, and the fish was completely mushy on the inside. Like, gray mush. The fries were lukewarm. The mushy peas and the tartar sauce were served in little covered plastic disposable containers. I'm not a fan of that, but I get it is convenient. I truly wanted to like this place, and except for my one experience with the food, I would certainly return. People were having fun, and I did as well. I believe if they become a little more attentive in the kitchen, this place is a five star pub.

The pretzels were more like warm soft breadsticks, served with a cheese dip and mustard on the side. Decor is an advertisement for Guinness but it IS an Irish pub in NYC. Apparently this beer is not as common in New York, but there were a couple Irish pubs that still sold them on draft and luckily there was one nearby my hotel. Very cool place! The rooftop bar is a huge open atmosphere and once seated you have about 40 beers on tap to select from. The staff is incredibly friendly as well and knew exactly what I was looking for.
