STEPH JUDGEMENT: Typical Irish pub with a distinctive look. We were walking by on our way back to our hotel after a show and were drawn in by their charming red facade and the line under their name that said "bonders and bottlers since 1878". Was this some kind of historic landmark? Well, not really: turns out the original pub has its roots in Ireland, and they have locations in London and NY, the NY one having opened in 2023. As such, the interior was pretty much like any higher-end Irish pub catering to tourists: clean, roomy, and on the pricier side. We had a couple of Smithwicks and shots of Jameson. We didn't try their food, but I imagine it's fine. The exterior is really the only distinctive thing about this place, but in a town of hundreds of Irish pubs, perhaps that's enough. Our bartender was Irish, which added to the ambiance. We didn't check out their upstairs patio area as it had just dumped rain on us unexpectedly. read more

Classic Irish pub. Wish we had known there was a rooftop! Great selection of bourbon and whiskey and Irish beer... and food to boot was also really decent. While spending a weekend in New York City, we went looking for a place for lunch in the garment district. Found a nice Irish pub; Gibneys. I figured being around since 1876, it had to be good. It was! Has a very quint rooftop area to eat outside. We ordered some beer and wine which our friendly waitress brought right away. Then she took our food order. I had a Cheeseburger with fries and coleslaw. The food came pretty quickly and was delicious. Cheeseburger was cooked perfectly and tasty great. The fries were crispy on the outside & soft and juicy on the inside. Also, the coleslaw was really good too. I highly recommend this pub for some good food, friendly service and wonderful atmosphere. read more

I love this place. The bartender is from Ireland and had a great recommendation of putting ice in my Magners. Best recommendation ever! The food was really tasty as well. Great fish and chips and the burger was really good. I might ask for it to be cooked medium next time, but that's it. read more

I was delighted to come upon Gibney's with my friend as we were searching for a place to grab a drink and food. We grabbed two empty seats at the bar. As it was a Monday night, it was not crowded. There were two other patrons at the corner of the bar and the bartender, John was engaged in a lively conversation with them. All good. We waited while we thought, a pause in the conversation would prompt the young man to excuse himself ask for our order. We waited. And waited, and waited. Finally my friend spoke up and said "excuse me can we order?"He came over and told us with an arrogance and annoyed attitude, that we had only been there for a minute and we would get our orders taken in time and to calm down, and then gave an angry glare. We should have left but we really just wanted to get served. He was rude, disrespectful, and honestly was indifferent to our being there. I understand that two women of a certain age, is of little interest to him but it should not really inform his work ethic or dare I say, the customer's needs. I guess his youth and inexperience, had not educated him in the field of hospitality and what being in a service industry means. I certainly will not be returning to this establishment and I hope that the owners take note of his poor attitude and teach their employees what it means to be in this industry. PS I have worked for many years in the hospitality sector so I understand both sides. Rudeness is never acceptable. read more

Went walking around midtown on our first day in NY and stopped off for some cold drinks in Gibney's. Chatted to the barman who made us feel right at home and we ended up staying longer than intended! We then went back the next night to catch some music and the atmosphere was brilliant, with incredible live Irish musicians and craic. I recommend a visit to anyone anywhere near to midtown... we didn't get a chance to sample their food yet, but only heard great things from others eating while we were there, so will be back on our next trip in November to sample the food and for more music and craic, can't wait! read more
