Were brought our drinks & menus by friendly bartender. Big place with a sparse crowd until the work shift arrived at 5pm, then nearly full house. Great bar selection of draft beers, wine, & extensive liquor offerings. Fun atmosphere-friendly mix of patrons. We shared an app & two more drinks. Very clean restrooms downstairs. The bartender was very rude. We came in and he didn't acknowledge us until we called him over, we had to ask for the menu too. He didn't check on us and we had to keep calling him over and looked annoyed when we would ask him for something. Drinks were okay but that was the bare minimum, when we paid we didn't leave tip because of his attitude and he still had the audacity to come and ask if we were going to give tip in cash or if we didn't tip people. The nachos were well cooked and had a decent portion of chili, cheese and jalepenos. I had the fish and chips, which were delicious. Me and my coworkers "goto" spot for Friday night happy hour. Our routine is usually to grab a table with no wait time, order within 2 minutes of sitting down and keep ordering baskets of fries and beers throughout the night. What makes Gabby's the best Irish pub in the neighborhood is in my opinion its affordability. Beers are very cheap around happy hour and beat the prices of other pubs just a few blocks in either direction. Additionally the beer selection is quite good and our group likes to buy "harp" and "irish red" here a lot. They aren't anywhere else we know of, are tasty... And they make you feel Irish drinking them. Foodwise we usually just get appetizers. They give you a lot of fries per basket which is great.. Though if we could make one minor criticism it's that the salt level per order can be inconsistent. Their main entrees have been good too and I have stopped over sometimes here to grab a cheap burger. I don't think we, nor I, have ever come here with a wait time. Even when it feels crowded in the front there is always tables available in the back. It is something we just expect from O'harras at this point. There's not much more that's needed to be said about this place. It has great beers, is affordable and is easy to get into. Highly suspicious. I came here for a coworkers going away drinks and had my card on the tab. After the party was over, I forgot the card at the bar. After calling them, they assured me that my card was there and I can pick it up the next day. Everything was seamless, until a week later I began seeing weird charges on the card from "Amazon Prime". This card was never used for Amazon, after calling them, Amazon said that this card was used with another account. This place is a go-to lunch spot for myself and my coworkers whenever they're looking to grab a beer as well. It's a place with great atmosphere, friendly staff, and a diverse crowd of people that come in-- whether they be tourists, business people, etc. One thing that is extremely underrated at this establishment is the food. I haven't had too many French Onion soups in my life, but this one is the best I've had so far. At $5 a cup, it's a go-to order for me on cold winter days. Also, the wings are the crispiest, freshest I've had in a long time. They bring them out as soon as they're done cooking so you'll need to give them a minute to cool down before devouring them... I always burn my mouth on the first one because yes, THEY ARE WORTH IT. I also like how they give you the buffalo sauce on the side so you can decide if you want to completely smother them in it, or just lightly coat them. That's always a crowd favorite. Our waitress was really underwhelmed by being at work that evening. She really had no motivation or desire to provide good service. I was disappointed. The same went for the food. I ordered the Buffalo Grilled Chicken Salad with Prosciutto. The salad definitely had plenty of grilled chicken to feed a village. I actually took a box back to the hotel since it was so much. But the prosciutto was strange and didn't really taste like the prosciutto I am used to. I almost think they had a bad cut and didn't notice. I personally made a yelp account just for this. Now let me get this straight, I want to say the southern Irishmen I met was a big homie. absolute mad lad and seems like a good bloke. the staff however? absolutely despicable. I was served a beer onto my table as I went to the bathroom, I come back to my outside seating (they wouldn't let us sit inside, btw it's 60 degrees.) I was sat at a table that had a chair that wobbled so badly it fell as I sat on it. I went in to to tell them,, and not only did they deny me the drink i paid for, they put responsibility onto me. They denied me reentry and stated I was too drunk to do anything About it. I'm here to say that while I am drank two beers before then. I'm certainly not incomprehensible.. I would never reccommend anyone to this place. please spend your money at any of the five other Irish bars in the area. As I was trying to speak to them they claimed the bar was closed, yet had a staff party which they were pouring drinks at. Did you ever pass a place and say "Hmmm... It looks a little shady, but something is drawing me near" That's what happens when you get close to Gabby O'hara's in NYC. It doesn't really have a welcoming look to the outside of the building. Old decorations in the window that are a wee bit on the dusty side and a window that doesn't look like it's been cleaned in years. That all stops when you walk inside! Welcome to Ireland! It's clean as a whistle inside with brilliant decorations and a wonderfully Gaelic atmosphere! And when you are greeted by the bartender and he sports an Irish accent, you KNOW you're in the right place. We sat down and ordered. I had the jalapeno Lamb burger with cheese and mushrooms. The understatement is it was to DIE for! And if that wasn't enough, it came with ... ready... CORN FRITTERS!!!! WOW!!! My darling girl had a corn beef sandwich that was a little dry. They also toasted the bread without asking. That wasn't great and she kinda choked it down. They would need to use a less lean cut of corn beef. However, as bad as that was, we were still very impressed by this little hidden gem in NYC! My mom and I stopped in for dinner before catching our bus home from Bryant Park. When we walked in there were a significant amount of people eating so we thought that was a good sign. My mom ordered the French Onion soup and a side salad. The soup was great! Not too salty like many other French Onion offerings and the salad was very large and colorful for being only a side salad. I ordered a salad off the dinner specials menu. It was a barbecue chicken salad with peppers, avocado, feta cheese, bacon and other yummy salad veggies. The amount of chicken was slightly overwhelming as it seemed like they put the equivalent of nearly two and a half breasts on it. Another thing was that our server mentioned she had been there since the morning and the person coming in to relieve her (at 4pm and it was now 6pm) never showed up. So while being on for much longer than she should have and being responsible for the entire dining room, I thought she did a fantastic job. My salad had taken much much longer than ideal and had come about 15-20 mins after my mom's food came out, I honestly didn't care because I, having dabbled in restaurant life, understood. Lastly, on top of all the waitress was going through, I asked if I would be able to get an order of an item that was offered as an accompaniment with another dinner special - "Sweet corn tots". In addition to saying yes to wanting an order, she gave them to me on the house! That was above and beyond on her part. A man even stopped by our table and asked us what they were as he was a regular at Gabby's and had never seen them before. This was our second stop on the Irish pub crawl for St. Pattys day. It wasn't too packed, and the drinks were extremely affordable. The bartenders were friendly, the booths were comfy, and my friends all left drunk and happy with money in their pockets. The staircase was a little sobering, but the bathrooms were clean. Our family of four - two adults and two teens - were in town the week of Thanksgiving. We'd been shopping in Bryant Park after a long day. Everyone was tired and hungry. We didn't want a fancy, expensive restaurant just good food and some place warm to sit. We stumbled across this place and hit the jackpot. It was probably around 8 or 9 pm. Mainly just people at the bar having a few drinks and watching whatever sporting event was on. We sat at a table in the back. No one was around us and for a bar, it was relatively quiet. My husband can't stand loud places but he liked this one. A young guy from the bar brought our menus and took our order. The food was sooo good! My husband and I had the Irish beef stew and the young man decided to order a bowl for himself because it looked so good. We couldn't have picked a better place or better food for a cold, dark night. We've marked this on our list of restaurants to definitely return to next time we're in the city. Location-wise, it was still in the midtown area, convenient to Times Square, Bryant Park, and our hotel on W 36th.
