I am disappointed that I've not been here before today. The Village is most certainly going to be an frequent and easy go-to for me in the future. The place is clean, bright and cozy without being cramped. The service is friendly and helpful. The menu is not too big nor too small....just right. We ordered the spinach pie - flakey crust, delicious spinach & feta filling with herbs. Most definitely homemade fresh, not a frozen food service product. Gyro dinner with spinach rice and Greek potatoes - gyro meat was tender and not overly spiced/flavored like, once again, a nasty food service product. Potatoes were cooked perfectly. Soft and seasoned spot-on, obviously made fresh and not left dying under a heat lamp. The spinach rice was tasty but a bit salty. I can assume that since everything is fresh made this might just be a one-off. I am more than willing to try this dish again to test out this hypothesis. I definitely recommend. Got the gyro dinner and the Greek salad. Big serving for the dinner but could use more pita bread and "Greek sauce". My husband really enjoyed it. I had the Greek salad. The chicken was super tasty and I loved the block of feta. Although, for 15.00, I could get double the salad and chicken and get pita bread at another local Greek restaurant. I would suggest adding more to the salad for the price of 16.50. I will try something different next time but I think my husband will stick with the Gyro dinner and we will just ask for more sauce and pita bread. read more

Took advice from Yelp reviews and chose The Village for lunch while heading to Blumen Gardens for their holiday open house! More of a "hole in the wall" diner....but you could smell the food just walking through the door! The girl working the counter was most accommodating and friendly! Came for the creamy lemon rice soup and wasn't disappointed!! Delish!! Couldn't decide on entree so I opted for the $17.00 plate with pork skewer and taziki (sp) sauce soup and spinach pie! Was looking forward to trying their Pastitsio but they were out of it. Spinach pie was a very good second choice! Only downside was no liquor license and we didn't think to ask if we could byob.... They served fountain drinks and nice jugs of cold water ....one infused with cucumbers which was a nice touch. All in all very good food and way more affordable than a fancy Greek (or Mediterranean ) restaurant. Didn't have room for dessert. But looked like some nice offerings. Wow what a wonderful little restaurant. It's location by the movie theater and downtown sycamore is amazing and the authentic Greek food is to die for. I had really quick service and both the cook Maki and my waitress Maia were extremely pleasant to talk with. I cannot recommend this establishment enough!! I'll be coming back for sure. read more

Let's see who gets this.... I awoke in a restaurant. I asked "Where am I?" The response: "In The Village." Okay, not really, but my wife spotted this place. I was tempted to get my #6 Button out, but I was wearing a dry fit shirt which would not work well with pins.... We dropped in deliberately for lunch after doing some business in DeKalb. I have been looking for a restaurant in the area that makes Souvlaki like I used to get in the Skewer Inn at the now demolished Lincoln Mall in Matteson. Found the place! The Steak Pita Sandwich is darn close, and just as tasty. This place is connected to the east side of the State Theater in Sycamore. Here is how this works: You come in, go to the counter, and grab a menu. You can sit down and figure out what you want, then go back to the counter, order and pay and tip, and then go sit down. They will take your name, and call your name when your food is up. Drinks are in a cooler case next to the register - Coke products, bottled water, and some energy drinks. There is cucumber water and lemon water free in the restaurant - help yourself. We both ordered the Steak Pita Sandwich, my wife got the Greek Salad and I got the french fries. The salad came out first and was loaded with 4 Kalamata olives, a chunk of feta cheese, and good, fresh lettuce. Then the sandwiches came out. I grabbed a bite - oh yeah, that's what I've been missing! I went to the counter for ketchup - they had salt and pepper at the table, but if you ask, they'll give you a container to use on your meal if needed and for fries, I like some ketchup. The owner came out and asked us how the food was and explained it's all made there (apart from the pitas) fresh daily, using recipes from her family in Greece. And we could tell - good food. They also have the usual Gyros, chicken and pork souvlaki, and other dishes. Service was polite, the owner was engaged, the restaurant was clean, and the bathrooms were clean and smelled good. We rode our bikes uptown Sycamore and wanted a healthy bite for lunch. We were super happy when we stopped by the Village Restaurant and met the owner, Jean, a sincere and kind person! The chicken and pork skewers were delicious and cooked perfectly. Another "surprise and delight" for us was the homemade tzatziki sauce--oh my!!! Jean recommended her homemade Greek avgolemono soup... this lemon chicken cream soup gets an A+! Water infused with lemon and cucumber was a nice touch. I highly recommend The Village Restaurant. We will be back soon, as this 5-star establishment is extremely memorable! read more

Everything we tried was inedible Gyros was big chunks of meat instead of slices, which I don't like but understand that's the authentic Greek way. The problem is I had sooooo many chunks of just FAT. Wife had a beef souvlaki on a pita, it was also fatty. Both came with very little tzatziki sauce that was at the bottom so when you start out eating with a fork you get no sauce. I love Greek food. I especially like family run places. This ticks the boxes on both. We started with saganaki and pita. I chose a side Horiatiki salad to go with my avgolemono soup and slouvaki skewer My husband got a chicken souvlaki and pork souvlaki skewers. And we got a lot of lemon to go around. !! We stopped here on a whim, and I'm so glad we did. We got the feta burger, very juicy and flavorful. I didn't expect to like it as much as I did because I'm not a burger person. I had to try,my personal favorite, spanakopita, I'm so glad I did because I haven't been able to find good spanakopita out. Three of us had the gyro plate, we all liked that too. It's not your traditional shaved meat, it's crispy pieces. I'm surprising ok with this because I like the crisp meat. The Taziki sauce is delicious and I have to remember to order more next time I go. The onions and tomatoes were fresh and a nice accompaniment to the meat. The Greek potatoes are bursting with flavor and were a big hit with everyone. Service was fast, I placed my order online and it took about 20 mins. We were in a mood for some nice and light meal and we found this gem in the heart of Sycamore . It's family owned and run restaurant. Very warm and welcoming. The food is simply awesome. It's Kind of Greek and Mediterranean. We ordered Soup , spicy Feta dip, chicken Slovouki Salad moussaka and grilled cheese , everything tasted so good ,and not to forget a Greek dessert. Everything came out fast and fresh and delicious. The hostess was very hospitable and kind. The place is clean and neat and not bad for your wallet either. I seldom leave reviews, and I have never left a second review of the same restaurant, but The Village in Sycamore deserves it. I have had their souvlaki dinner on several occasions and it has always been wonderful. I almost always order it with the Greek potatoes which are among the best potatoes of any kind that I have ever had. My most recent order of souvlaki was notably great. The chicken is exceptionally flavorful by itself. But then add a bit of the included lemon and the flavor goes up a notch. While I have not experienced their entire menu, I am confident that it is all equally wonderful. read more

Kali honepsi I'm not Greek, but I just looked that up and it means good digestion in Greek, and is apparently what they say at the end of a meal. This was really good. Not sure if it's a restaurant or fast food as I had it delivered, but it tasted like a home cooked Greek meal. Best Greek food i have had period. If you are looking for some good Greek food, and are in the area, then visit "The Village, they have amazing dishes for great prices. Their saganaki was seasoned very well, it had a beautiful lemon flavor that paired amazingly well with the cheese. The soup was my favorite dish, it had a delicious yet luxurious lemon flavor that complimented the chicken and rice in it. If i had known how delicious it was, i would have just had a big bowl of it for dinner haha. The Souvlaki and the Gyros dinner were so delicious that i told my husband that i expect to be back soon forote of their delicious foods. Spotted The Village in Yelp and it was on the way to where Jr and I were traveling thru on Rt 64 in Sycamore. Ordered lunch. Jr ordered one pork and one chicken souvlaki. I ordered a pork souvlaki pita and we shared a large Greek fries. And of course I couldn't resist a frappe. Everything tasted excellent. Well made. Super loved the fries which had feta and olive oil on them. We said hello to the owners who ate very kind. They will even take the time to show you where their "xorio" is in Greece. The village is one of the best spots I have ever eaten at. The food is amazing if you like the genre, and the service is exceptional. The themeing is on point, and I love the ambiance. You can serve yourself water so you don't have to wait for drinks, and the food actually comes very quickly. The people who work there are very nice, and help you to decide as much as possible. The menu is a little confusing if you don't know what you're ordering, but the person at the front will give you an idea of what the food is. This is my third time eating here this week! I love how the food is simple, clean, but full of flavor. I love supporting local family run businesses and it helps that the food is decently priced! Prior to eating here I've never been a fan of Greek cuisine but now I find myself trying to resist coming here every day despite my cravings for it! Absolutley excellent food and service. I stopped in after getting a massage down the street, and I'm so glad that I did. I got the spanakopita dinner and moussaka dinner, both with the avgolomono soup and one with greek potatoes and the other with spinach rice. I got it to go, and it was ready in a super timely fashion and the gentleman who rung me up was very hospitable. When I got home and tried the food, I was in awe.
