I've found Baltimore city food pricing can be surprisingly high, but the prices here are not too high and what I would typically expect. I got a gyro wrap and my boyfriend got a gyro bowl. My boyfriend loved the bowl. We both really enjoyed the flavor of the meat. It seemed well seasoned. I wish the wrap had more toppings but it contained what was promised - meat, lettuce, sauce. Though we ordered delivery, I made a comment on my order for extra sauce with the wrap and they included it which was great and much appreciated! Let's just say I have a high expectation for a good gyro platter from my experiences in Chicago. I will say, maybe it's because it's Afghan restaurant instead of Greek that the style is different (ground meat vs. shaved). Walking in the staff were pretty attentive and nice, but they seemed very busy. The restaurant itself was mostly empty and medium clean with lots of crumbs everywhere. Our food came out quickly and everything was hot and fresh. However, the flavors of the gyro meat were not what I was expecting, and the red sauce seemed more tomato-ey than spicy. The fries also tasted a bit chemical-y and like cleaner to me. The portions were plentiful for the $12ish platter. My friend and I each had about half a platter left. The ratio of rice to meat seemed a little heavy on the rice. It satisfied my craving, but I probably wouldn't be in a hurry to visit again. It seemed all the sauces were needed to get a good flavor. I just arrived in Baltimore for a conference and wanted to eat a mom and pops for a cheap and easy dinner I got the kofte wrap for $12. It comes with fries. I'm used to the kofte wrap that I get at Bursa in San Francisco which is markedly different. The wrap at Kabul which is made in house was much thicker. It had maybe two pieces of lettuce in it. The sauce was good but it was thinner and running out all over which made the wrap difficult to eat. The wrap was then wrapped in this thicker newsprint paper which didn't up its appetizing game. The meat was well flavored but massive and dense. It wasn't an ideal dinner for me, but it you want pretty much no vegetables and only large chunks of meat on a thick piece of naan that doesn't close, and you don't care if your hand held dinner is messy and unwieldy, this is the place for you. With hungry kids, I'd have loved to save me the extra wait. But, no problems - mistakes happen. But an apology or any word of acknowledgment? Missing. Sunday afternoon, friends and I ate lunch at The Kabul after visiting the National Aquarium. We worked up quite the appetite after 3+ hours of exploring. Fortunately, the Yelp app led us here and we had some really good food. Here's what we ordered (all recommended by the group) - AUSHAK - ravioli appetizer filled with scallions, served with garlic and mint-yogurt, topped with ground beef. - GYRO PLATTER- marinated lamb with tzatziki sauce over basmati rice, with salata, hummus, pita, and a few fries sprinkled over for good measure. - FALAFEL PLATTER - falafel, hummus, afghan salad, Kabuli rice and tandoori naan - LAMB & CHICKEN COMBO - marinated lamb and chicken in special Afghan spices, afghan salad, Kabuli rice, and naan - CHICKEN SIGNATURE BOWL - mixed greens, basmati rice, eggplant dip, hummus, baby spinach, salad, sweet corn, topped with lemon herb tahini, garlic yogurt, and a cucumber sauce. My lamb gyro meat was flavorful, and the hummus that came with my platter was really good. My entree came with a fountain drink, I was told. There's the usual soda dispenser, but also an iced tea one. I went with the iced tea machine, as an alternative to soda. You can get unsweetened, sweetened, green tea sweetened, or lemonade. There's also a cold case with bottled drinks - including Perrier, flat water, sodas, and other juice drinks. I should say that, when you enter the eatery, you walk up to the counter and place your order and pay. Then, if dining in, find a seat and the food will be made to order and brought out to you. There's ample seating inside. We picked a table with chairs and bench-back seating. Considering we ordered for four people, the food came out pretty fast. I would recommend The Kabul if you are local and/or staying in the area while visiting Baltimore. Also, if traveling, the patters are pretty generous for the amount of money you pay (compared to NY/NJ prices). The Kabul is honestly one of my favorite bites in Baltimore, so I hate having to rate them as below average, but honestly, they deserve lower at this point in time. Their food is fresh, delicious, portions are generous, it's priced appropriately (I think the kebabs are overpriced but they're still my favorite, so I suck it up), and they have delicious extras, like the mint chutney, baklava and mango lassi. Unfortunately, the guy who's been at the storefront as of late is so grumpy/rude, always overcharges in a sketchy way and then argues and refuses to fix it, etc., plus they never answer the damned phone anymore! I placed an Uber ears order tonight and when ordering the samosas, you're allowed to choose beef or potato, but they haven't included an option to select, and they frequently provide the wrong option, even if you leave a note, so I've taken to calling to make sure they get it right-tonight, I've called them a literal thirty times (see photo) and they do not answer. It's pretty ridiculous regardless but especially for a restaurant whose primary clientele is takeaway/delivery. Even walking in, and waiting at the counter, they will make up wait for an absurdly long time although they are well aware you are there. Again, their food is great but I'm not here to be swindled or talked down to, so I will be trying to find a a new fave place for kebabs in Baltimore, if you have any suggestions, send me a message! read more

My goddaughter had the chicken tenders kids meal and said they were the best chicken tenders ever (and she ate all of them, so it must be true). This is the only place I've gotten Afghan food from cause it's so good! I've tried a few of their dishes and they've all been great. I really like their sandwiches and my most recent take out was the lamb gyro wrap with fries and a soda. The sandwich is in a big naan bread with plenty of meat and sauce in it which is delicious. I love a good kebab and seek them out wherever I go. We were staying in Baltimore for the night and I looked up for a local kebab place. Found this and was very excited to go. We got there around noon and there was literally nobody else in the restaurant. we tried to substitute rice for french fries and we're told no. We can only charge you for an extra order of rice. That was five dollars. OK no problem. The girl at the counter could not have been less pleasant. After 15 minutes two other customers came in and ordered. We still have not gotten our food and figured hey they're making fresh stuff. It must be really good. Then the other people that order got their food. We the incredibly unhelpful girl working the counter. She said it'll be two minutes. Long story short. It was 40 minutes before we got two wraps. After asking for the third time. She said oh the printer didn't print in the back. I understand things happen, but this was absolutely ridiculous. There was virtually nobody else in the restaurant, and nobody can put two and two together. There was never so much as an apology or concession of any screw ups. Moreover, the food was mediocre at best. The french fries tasted like they had been cooked in old dirty oill. I rarely write bad reviews, but this was a very bad experience from one of the most apathetic workers I've ever come across, which is really saying something these days. read more

Super delicious food! We had the lamb bowl and the steak bowl add shrimp. Both had rice removed (we're low carb) and extra salad added. They were absolutely delicious! The only constructive comments we have are that: 1) the steak bowl add shrimp had substantially less steak than the lamb bowl did, and for $7.99 for 3 shrimp I would have expected a good scoop of steak to equal the amount of lamb and it seemed a bit light. But both bowls were so delicious there was not even a drop left over! 2) it mentioned having spinach and we didn't notice any. That said, we will definitely be ordering here again and probably ordering the same things but may look for a different option to get some of that delicious shrimp to put on the bowl. The Kabul is a gem in downtown Baltimore. Baltimore is not the cosmopolitan oasis comparable to other east coast cities of its size and larger. Most food you get here is middle American diners, wing and chicken joints, and Italian American joints. Despite enjoying all of that, I get fatigued eating American food. Give me some spice, rice, and acid (that sounds like drugs but I meant literally). Prices are very reasonable, the food is consistent, and the food comes out relatively quick. It's not your traditional kebab shop with the same boring plain food- I actually have to ask for it not to be spicy due to my IBS sometimes but that is not a complaint. (Capsaicin and I are in a toxic relationship where I swear it'll be my last time when it hurts me but I keep running back because it's so good! Sigh!) Today I ordered the tandoori chicken and it was good enough to finally inspire me to write a review. The strewed eggplant app "borani" is my jam - it's like a cross between babaganoush and tomato stewed eggplants. I didn't order extra naan but thankfully my jam packed tandoori platter had two pieces. The spinach is very flavorful as are the dips in the vegetarian platter as well. And I never eat dessert at restaurants but the afghani cardamom ice cream with sliced almonds and figs is HEAVENLY. If you care about aroma like j do this is your joint. Frankly I'd love it I'd they opened a nice formal sit down restaurant with excellent ambience and the elaborate meals with tasty little accoutrements middle easterners are known for (their fast casual food is already elaborate and with tlc). read more
