A fun Irish pub in Chicago that's centrally located -- we stopped by for St. Patty's festivities and had a blast! They offered a package where you can reserve a table, which was well worth during a busy weekend. I loved the festive touches, including the beers that were dyed green. It was a popular spot that's walking distance from Magnificent Mile and more in River North. We spent the whole morning here, and the bar got steadily more crowded as the day went on. We came here one night for a chill hangout and the place definitely delivered. I'm terms of food, we for the Mac and cheese, the pretzel, truffle fries, and a dessert. Personally I wasn't a huge fan of the smokiness in the Gouda in the Mac and cheese but it was really creamy and cheesy! My favorite were the fries- they were so addicting and the addition of truffle really elevated the dish. The dessert was also very good. Overall they have great options for bar food/apps. read more

This is a limited review as we stopped in while downtown for a beer. Hubby had the beer - which checked all of the beer boxes. I had this magical Irish coffee that surpassed all expectations! I'm not usually a fan, but it was a chilly, windy afternoon and I hoped to defrost. It was honestly the best Irish coffee I have ever had and I will go out of my way to drop in again. Can't believe the number of times I have walked past this place and never stopped in. That will not happen again. One of The Doctor's suppliers was in town and wanted to take us out to dinner. Since he and his colleagues were in walking distance of this place, this is where he decided we would meet. The Kerryman has a lot of charm and I love the woodwork. Very interesting layout...as you walk in the front door, there is the main bar with several booths. There are also tables and a full bar upstairs. I know it is supposed to be an Irish pub, but honestly other than having Irish dishes on the menu, I didn't get that vibe. That's not a knock against the establishment, it's just some places downtown Chicago literally knock you upside the head with trying to remind you that they are a hip Irish pub. Let me start out by saying that they had me at the sparkling rose they had on the menu and it was a reasonable price for downtown (Zardetto Prosecco Rose, $40). There is also a nice selection of beers, wines, whiskeys and mixed drinks. The next time I go will be on a Tuesday as they have $6 glasses of wine and half price bottles of wine. For those that are watching their calories while drinking, on Wednesday there are $4 Truly and White Claw cans during Happy Hour (4-7 pm). The bartender was very nice, didn't get his name but he was friendly and attentive. Although there were quite a few people at the bar, he took care of everyone equally. For dinner there was eight of us. We were seated upstairs at a large high top table with chairs on one side and a long booth seating on the other side. We started off with the Baked Artichoke Dip (baked artichoke hearts, irish cheddar, cream cheese, mozzarella, parmesan, roasted peppers, green onion, cilantro and grilled toast points). This was very tasty and I could see ordering this as a snack to have with bubbles while people watching in the summer from their outdoor area. For dinner I got the Shepherd's Pie (ground beef, vegetables, beef gravy, mashed potato, cheddar cheese and house irish cheddar soda bread ) and a side of Macaroni & Smoked Gouda Cheese (cavatappi, smokey cheese sauce, potato chips, breadcrumb). The mac and cheese comes as an entree dish as well. Both were very good and deceptively large as I ended up taking them home. The Shepherd's Pie was very good, but it had a different flavor to it that I didn't expect. Not sure what it was, but the gravy had a slightly sweetness to it that reminded me of tomato sauce. It isn't that it was bad, just different, but delicious nonetheless. The dish itself looked small because of the dish it was prepared in, but the dish itself is deep and really retains the heat of the is dish. by the time I finished eating and asked to get it wrapped up, it was still warm by the time I got home. The soda bread was nice and hearty; I didn't have my leftovers until about 3 days after the fact and that bread had retained its flavor and texture. Delish! The mac and cheese was also pretty good, nice and creamy. Not sure I would do it as an entree because that would a very heavy meal, but it was good. Our host got a grilled Reuben with a side of mac and cheese. The sandwich looked pretty good and our host said that he enjoyed it. One of our guest was vegetarian, so she got the Quesadilla without the smoked bacon. It was made with queso fresco, baby spinach, sour cream, salsa verde and guacamole. For an appetizer, the size definitely could pass for an entree. The Doctor got the The Irish Cheddar, which was a half pound of black angus beef, irish cheddar and bacon with marie rose sauce. For those of you that don't know, marie rose sauce is a British condiment often made from a blend of tomatoes, mayonnaise, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice and black pepper. The Doctor thought the burger was excellent and he liked the sauce as it was his first time having it. Service was great. Can't remember our server's name (think it was Shaun?) but he was great considering the size of our party. There was a another gentleman that jumped in to assist our server in terms of removing plates from the table. Even the bus guy was great and responsive. We didn't do dessert because we were stuffed from the meal but the Maple Bourbon Apple Bread Pudding looked interesting (chantilly custard, brown sugar caramel, vanilla bean gelato). Another snacky side to consider while drinking bubbles and people watching. The Kerryman hit a note with me and I will definitely be stopping in there soon. For those that like to drive, there is a parking facility right next door. With Spot Hero it was $10 for the evening. That makes it worthwhile drinking down there for dinner when the weather starts to get colder. We will be back. read more

We wanted to watch college football so we went to my old stomping ground and went to Kerryman. It still looks nice in and outside. We weren't able to watch football but were able experience rugby. We still don't understand the rules but the atmosphere was fun. Bartender was attentive. read more

Randomly walked by this bar on the way to our car and decided to stop in for a quick drink with a few friends. Their menu had TONS of different variety of beers, cocktails, wines, champagne, drafts, etc. They offered bar finger foods as well but we didn't order any food as we just came from eating at Portillos. I had ordered their hello sunshine which tasted like a strawberry lemonade. Great for those who don't really drink alcohol or new to drinking and wanted something light. Service was great. She was very patient and attentive. She also had great demeanor and was friendly. Great experience - the place was nicely decorated for Christmas and it was very cozy. The wait staff was great and very friendly. They were very attentive and came by many times to make sure everything was good and if we needed anything (exceptional service). The food was awesome - everything we had was so good and had great flavor. We went there with our family and had the blackened chicken sandwich on both their regular bread and pretzel bread that came with a side of your choosing (their sweet potato fries were the best) and we all loved our food. The others had their burgers which were exceptional. Their bacon jam was so good and addictive and their Spanish onion soup was very tasty. We went here for a snack and liked it so much we returned with the family for dinner that same night. It was close to where we were staying which was a plus. We have walked by this place many times over the years we visited Chicago and never went in until now and it will be our go to place from now on. Loved it and the added plus was they have a wine special on Tuesdays ($6 glasses of wine and 1/2 off bottles). We had a glass of Cabernet wine and was pleasantly surprised how good it was (we expected a house wine that would be average but it was really good). Disappointing. Came with 3 friends on Friday night and we ordered shephard's pie, fish and chips, Grecian salad, mac and cheese and a vegetable side. For starters, all our food was lukewarm and required liberal amounts of salt for flavor... but not even mediocre tasting with the salt! The fish and chips had a super thick breading that was like a corndog batter in thickness -- should've been crispy. And absolutely lacking any and all flavor. Shephard's pie just tasted like tomatoes...super bland. Mac and cheese was nothing interesting and just felt like gouda was melted into pre-fab mac, then topped with some potato chips (which also failed to give much flavor). Grecian salad was ordered with green goddess dressing, but the dressing given was literally tzaziki - so neither green nor herby. Side of veggies was paltry for $7 and literally flavorless brussel sprouts and a few carrot coins. No desire to return given no items were good. A shame because a fun spot! read more

We sat inside, because it was a bit too warm out. Even though the place was not packed, it was very loud inside. We got the pretzel and cheese appetizer. Cheese was very watery and unflavorful. The mustard was good and so was the BBQ sauce it came with. Pretzel itself was good, but nothing special. 2 stars because of the watery cheese sauce. My mom got the Smoked Gouda Mac n Cheese. She didn't care for it because she felt the noodles were too al dente. Also it was too spicy for her (she does not like any spice), which was not listed on the menu. 1 star from her on that. On the flip side, I tried it and enjoy the spice, because I like medium spicy-ness. Also I liked the al dente and in fact felt they could be even more al dente for my liking, so to each their own. I rate it a 3.5 star. Could have used more salt. My husband got the fish and chips and they were terrible, 1 star. They were way over-fried so when you break it apart to eat, the fried parts just crack off and fall right off the fish. So then you have to take a bite of fish and then pick up your fried part to take a bite of that, but then it is burnt, so doesn't taste good. I got the shepherds pie. All of the entrees we ordered tasted great, but my favorite part of the meal was the maple bourbon apple bread pudding. I would honestly come back here just to have dessert with a glass of Irish whiskey. The restaurant has ample seating so you generally should be able to find a table quite easily. The waitstaff know the menu well and are great at recommending drinks/dishes. Sat outside on a nice Friday night and it was easy to get a table around 8pm. If the weather permits, sit outside. They have many plants so you don't feel like you are sitting on a busy street. I was very impressed with the food. We got the pretzel which came with mustard, bacon bits in jam and cheese. I was shocked with how good the cheese was, it didn't taste fake like how a lot of pretzel cheeses can be. I also had the shepards pie which was delicious. With whipped mashed potatoes on top, it had a lot of flavor with bits of melted cheese and meat. There were some large carrot bits which were very hard that I didn't eat. The service was pretty slow and they charged us a $2 fee for splitting the Shepard's pie and didn't tell us, which I didn't appreciate. read more

We came here for lunch. It was a slow Wednesday morning/noon lunch time, so service was expected to be great. Most importantly our food came out very quick. My wife ordered their Mac & cheese. And I gotta say, Kerryman serves one of the best Mac & cheese I've had in a long time. None of that kraft type of crap. The Mac & cheese was very cheesy, and even had a nice spicy kick to it. It was so damn good French Montana should name a mixtape after it. I ordered a Guinness of course and a Shepherds Pie. I've been wanting to try Shepherds Pie for a while now, and Kerrymans version was the lucky place for me to try it at. It was a mistake, since it was very hot outside and the dish was kind of soupy and hot. In fact it was so hot that the dish never cooled. Same with the Mac & cheese. And that's not a complaint. That's how good is supposed to be served. Anyways, back to my Shepherds Pie. I wouldn't say the dish was disappointing, because it tasted good, but I was disappointed in the dish itself. I thought Shepherds Pie would different. It was like a tomato broth, with ground beef (tasted like picadillo) with mashed potatoes on top. It also came with Soda Bread which was tasty. Ham looked and tasted awful, potatoes were from a bag and heavily salted, baked beans had no sauce and were not appetizing, sausages were suspiciously soft... just a very poor value and crappy approximation of what a full breakfast should be. So the hunt for a restaurant nearby lead us here. Atmosphere - The places has the typical dark wood features you would expect in an Irish pub. We sat outside on the small side walk area. They were playing pop music, I would have liked more classic Irish music to set the mood. Wonderwall by Oasis, was not setting it for me. Food Drink - The beer list is actually pretty good. Whiskey list is very impressive. But I am a beer guy and found Sweetwater's 420 Strain Mango Kush Wheat Ale. The beer was already a month passed best by date. So a little disappointed in that. Dinner - The only item that caught my eye as Irish was the Shepard's Pie, with ground beef not lamb. I love bangers and mash but was not an option on the menu. I had the fish and chips and so did one of my friends. The fish was great, but the size difference in pieces fish was considerable between the two plates. Service - Just there. I've passed this bar so many times and have seen so many people dining and drinking outside during all times of the day. I finally went with a group of friends on a Wednesday night, and I can see that it's an easy option with multiple food and drink choices to please everyone. I had a nice 'alone together' tequila cocktail and a glass of wine, along with a buffalo chicken salad which was delicious. Definitely a good place to grab some grub and drinks in the area with ample seating inside and out. read more

This place is perfect especially on a sort of chilly rainy evening in Chicago. We escaped the elements and walked into a warm and cozy space. Literally felt transported! We sat in the booth upstairs with our two boys and had a wonderfully delicious meal of fish and chips, Mac and Gouda, truffle fries, and the blackened chicken pub club. Oops, almost forgot the boneless Buffalo wings-yummy! I was eying the bread pudding but we ran out of belly space. The Irish coffee got me relaxed and perked up for the rest of the night evening. This joint was off the chain! The food, service, and atmosphere was a vibe. The tap selection was on point for the Irish pub and the fish n chips were an obvious choice for an entree. However, the spinach and artichoke appetizer was definitely the highlight because this was no regular spin dip, it had some twist to it that made it delectable. The one Irish pub that one can say that they aren't just getting drunk, but they can viably say that they are being educated too! Walking in I overlooked the singular mAn and thought the place was named after the fabulous Irish football (soccer) team, but it is actually for St. Brendan The Navigator! I haven't heard about him since being in elementary school, some 60 years ago! The story makes a lot of sense though. Anyway, the only two things that cost a star is the rather skimpy corned beef sandwiches you get. For the ridiculous profit they make, I'm sure they won't go broke if they put about 3 more slices of corned beef, so one could see meat between the two slices of bread - jeez! We've visited the Kerryman occasionally with good experiences but just had a lousy result on a grub hub order that's hard to excuse. Ordered 5 meals. Fish & chips were 3 of these. Received a bag with only 1 order of fish & chips. Times are tough, so shouldn't the restaurant be paying attention to its delivery business? By the way, Grubhub credits the items and taxes but keeps all of its fees. Makes for a lousy meal for two people not to eat. read more
