The wife and I went for lunch on a beautiful Thursday afternoon right after we got off the Jet Express. The location and décor are great. Service was good, we were the only people sitting inside. The sandwiches and drinks were very small but tasty. Then you get the bill. $12.50 for a margarita served in a 10 oz disposable plastic cup. $17.50 and $23.75 for tiny sandwiches and fries. Sales tax plus resort tax PLUS credit card fee. $87.00 total with tip for a light lunch. C'mon man! read more

Follows Social Distancing: YES I guess this restaurant is owned by the same group that owns The Boardwalk. They had all the same signs promoting social distancing and staying 6 feet apart. Stickers on the ground showing where to stand. All of the tables are spaced out really well. We sat outside on the patio next to the water. All the employees here wore masks and they do a great job following social distancing protocols. I was tired of eating perch so I decided to get the buffalo shrimp. There were maybe 6 very large shrimp on the plate in a spicy buffalo sauce. It went well with my ice cold beer. The menu was extremely limited because of COVID and there wasn't as much choice as I see from other posts for this restaurant. Still, we had a great time and meal here. read more

First time to PIB and we actually ate here both nights. My friend is gluten free and she had many options here. We grabbed a drink at the outside bar and listened to some live music before dinner. It was really nice outside with high top tables and chairs available. We went inside and the open air seating was a also a nice touch. Our waitress was nice on both occasions. Food came out hot and we were happy. Only issue is both nights my side salad had slimy lettuce unfortunately. Just picked around it. My friend had the jambalaya bowl the first night and I had the key largo wrap. Second night (Tuesday) they had half price flatbreads (offer cauliflower crust) and $8 frozen drinks. So an affordable night. Big menu and lots of fun drinks. Great music and view, so we'd definitely go back. read more

Came here with a group of 10 for a bachelorette party. We were seated outside and it was so nice to look at the water and watch the sunset. Great views! I got a rum punch and it was delicious. For a starter, my friend and I shared the conch fritters and they were so good! The order comes with 5 fritters and they are fairly large. Very unique and yummy. For my dinner I got the tacos with fried perch. The perch itself was delicious. Really mild and tender fish, with a soft buttery flavor. Very good. The tacos on the other hand were a joke. I guess I should have known that tacos in put in bay wouldn't meet the expectations I've acquired since living in Tucson. The tortilla was flour store bought, the cheese was bland shredded cheddar, and the salsa tasted like it came from a jar. I ate one taco and realized it wasn't worth it and that it would be better to just eat the fish straight up. So that's what I did for the second taco. The fish was great! The chips and salsa that came with the meal left a lot to be desired. Again, I'm spoiled since I live in Tucson. Service was decent and we were taken care of fairly fast, considering our large group. If you want a tropical vibe and some good seafood and a good selection of tropical drinks, definitely come here! read more

FIRST, of all. My sweet Potatoes were soggy to the touch. My fried shrimp was overly fried, I got about 6 pieces of medium size shrimp with soggy sweet potatoes for ($17) OVER Priced, the 3 stars given is due to the fact that our server was amazing and the view is beautiful if you get an out door seating overlooking the water. The cutest place to visit when you are on an island. They have such a great layout and there are so many different places you can hangout while waiting for a table. All the bright colors are so appealing for the vacation vibe. We were able to have a seat in the bar while we waited for a table and ended up eating at the bar tables. Even the bar covered area is so open air that you are happy to sit there and not dead in the sun. The bartenders are definitely overwhelmed at the outside bars and had to run back and forth to the main bar for certain drinks which was super inconvenient. The food came out pretty quickly and they have a large variety of food options. The prices are high but comparable to other places on the island. The sweet potato fries were delish and the summer salad was a great healthy option but unfortunately it was mostly iceberg lettuce with limited toppings which stinks for the price. We will definitely come back here when visiting because its a great location, decor, and menu. read more

Our first time on the island. We explored on a gulf cart and needed a place to get dinner and enjoy some live music. This was definitely the right choice! The band was the traveling Johnson's. Great spot right on the water, definitely has the feel of an island eatery. Wind was blowing hard, so we sat inside for our meal. My wife is a conch fritter fanatic, so we had to order those as an appetizer. The fritters were on the small side, but were tasty and crisp. Their dipping sauce (a key lime tartar sauce) was too sweet for our liking, but adding some Frank's Red Hot sauce fixed that right up. For lunch, my wife had the mahi fish tacos and I had the fried butterfly shrimp. The mahi tacos came as a "kit" where you build your own tacos. A nice selection of veggies and cheese came with the grilled fish, but the fish was on the dry side so a bit of sauce was needed to jazz it up. My shrimp were tasty, but came with the same key lime tartar sauce (as described above) so more Frank's to the rescue. Shoestring fries were plentiful, crispy and tasty...although due to their thin nature they cooled off rather quickly. One last comment, the meal came with a cole slaw that was (once again, for our tastes) too sweet and we passed. Given their location on Lake Erie, The Keys does a reasonable job of trying to mimic a seaside bar and eatery...but I grew up in Miami, Florida so I guess I'm a bit spoiled as to what to expect. read more

Super great spot! Love the atmosphere as it is right on the water! Drinks were great - I got the Strawberry Tiki Lemonade with strawberry purée and it was good! I got the golden fried shrimp and it was delicious. Loved the seasoned fries. My friends got the Carribean and Black bean burgers and enjoyed them, as well. Super nice staff. This place is seriously underrated! It was such a relaxing vibe with beautiful music playing and everything was open and airy right on the lake. This is as close as you are going to get to beach vibes in Ohio. I mean look at that view from my table and we sat right near the bar! The tiki bar around back was great too. The wait staff was amazing and I could write an essay about how those fish tacos were actually probably the best in my whole life(maybe second to St.Augustine). The perch was very fresh and local. Terrible service, terrible food, horribly rude hostesses. The only reason this place survives is because it's next to to Jet express dock.

I'll start with the good--great location, nice outdoor seating, live music. This place, at first, seems great. But, my initial impression was, unfortunately, short-lived. The menu has a decent selection, but is way overpriced for the quality. As someone who used to live on the island of Maui, I didn't think it was possible to be shocked by food prices. After all, $9 or more for a gallon of milk is common, and it's impossible to get out of any decent restaurant for less than $75 for a family of 4. But The Keys takes the cake as far as price--$12 for a kids meal??? And we aren't talking organic food or pasture-raised, grass-finished meat, for goodness' sake--this was $12 for Kraft macaroni & cheese (yes, the menu actually specified that it was KRAFT) or a PB & J! No matter how nice the ambiance is, it doesn't justify $12 for a bowl of boxed mac & cheese. The prices for the adult meals weren't much better, either. On top of that, I abhor forced tipping. We had 3 adults and 3 children, at a time when the restaurant was maybe a third full. Our server, knowing she would get an automatic 20 percent added to the bill, did the absolute bare minimum. We had to ask twice for water, and even though we requested boxes for our leftovers, she didn't bring them--instead, she sat chatting with some of her coworkers while we waited, until we finally left without it. With forced tipping, a mediocre server gets rewarded and an excellent one gets the shaft, because most people don't want to be told they have to tip a certain amount (not to mention the fact that it eliminates the option for a cash tip). Overall, I think there are enough places in Put-in Bay that can provide quality food at a respectable price. The Keys just isn't worth the hype. read more

I'm not a negative review guy, but I have to pipe up on this one. Half our meals were the absolute worst food I've had in a restaurant in, man, forever. The other half were serviceable. To their credit, if you're looking for awesome ambiance by the water and pretty good drinks, this is your place. If you're looking for remotely good food, nope, nope, nope. Ordered tacos (one order chicken, one order Mahi Mahi). Both were elementary school cafeteria food at BEST, maybe water park cuisine on a bad day. Know those bags of bland, pre-cooked, grilled and sliced chicken you can buy cold at the grocery store? Get a bag of that, microwave a few slices for no more than 30 seconds and toss them into a cold tortilla over a bed of literally icy diced red onion with some shredded cheese (that doesn't melt even a little), and bam... "island tacos." Stale tortilla chips and salsa that was chopped tomato and onion in a weird, cold, pink-hued goo. I just can't explain how bad this meal was. You ever seen "You Can't Do That on Television" back in the day? Like something from Barth's restaurant. Yes, I did just drop that reference, and I'm not even Canadian. Again, island drinks, some decent live tunes, killer views and a Key West vibe at PIB... all top notch. Five stars. The food was zero stars. So we'll split the difference at a 3. The service was also pretty decent, albeit slow. They were very friendly, which is getting more rare at PIB over the years, sadly. Our server kindly took one of the taco orders off the ticket, and subsequently earned its value added in extra tip. I loathe complaining about food, and rarely do, but this was just that bad. Eat somewhere else, go here for drinks afterwards. Or have drinks here before dinner, long as you're headed somewhere else to eat. At the very least, save yourself... do not order the tacos. read more

Seems like a Disney attraction called the Keys. The food is themed with key lime . A lovely Erie perch with lime mayo and water snake thin fries. All good and tasty. Service all smiles and snappy. A nice island spot to get a summer drink and fresh air with sunset over the water. But perhaps authentic to the mid-west summer would be more satisfying than importing Florida. Seeing the wonderful outside venue, along with a fire pit by the outside bar, we returned for some evening drinks only to find them closing at 8pm on a Thursday night!
