Literally, a fade, and maybe like 3 inches on top. Nothing too crazy. I texted Karen, and she got back to me right away. Sent her pics, and she said she felt positive about being able to do it. She really took the best care of me. She used a super gentle bleach that didn't even turn me orange! I couldn't believe it, I was practically blonde within minutes of that stuff being on my head. She even put this oil on the inside of the cap that helped maintain the integrity of my hair so it wouldn't break. Hooked me up with a primer and seal with the toner. Not only did she get me to the color I wanted - it literally turned out better than I imagined. I'm super stoked, and will definitely be coming back here. Aside from the rad job, Karen is so damn cute and sweet! She felt like fam. The other stylists there were super nice too! The vibe of this place is very welcoming, and not pretentious in the slightest considering how rad this salon is designed and decorated. Great style. Really happy to have found Karen because it takes a few rounds for me to get this blonde usually, and I end up settling for less. She hooked me up in like an hour and half. Take all my money. Well, I never gone in to get my hair done. I send the owner some messages on setting the appointment after I read other reviews and also their website promoting their arts. I supposed they were too busy in their establishment and being claimed as an "established" business. They don't need extra clients to come to their place. They should put on their website and on Yelp! That they don't need new customers, being they all overbooked! I would give them more respect if they did that, instead they never bothered to respond within a timely fashion. And when they do response was more than a week later and explained they shouldn't be bother by the message any future potential customers should make toward their business. Rude! Based on that interaction, despite others wonderful views of this place. I decided that since they "lacks" "adequate" customer service. I highly doubt I would received any attentions if I do gone in and get my hair done. The feeling that I received just from trying to set an appointment was this, just imagine paying $$$$ and get treated like crap. Not my thing, I don't need to go somewhere and get treated like scums and money isn't everything. I know there are some current trend out there that people pay someone to being rude/mto them. His responses Continued to prove what I original wrote about this establishment owner lack integrity and belittle everyone. My review was on how this establishment treats customers - prospective and not. VS. This pettifog decided to attacked me with what he wrote on his limited observations. I feel even happy I left this on their end, since they feel justified. A suggestion to the owner and his staffs--- please take a class on digital manners and professionalism on how to response to customers request within a timeframe, not many months later. I have been going to this place for 1.5 years and it's amazing. I have ridiculous, unruly hair and they are the only people who know how to cut it where it looks good and I can actually fix it! Growing up, my mom use to cut the knots out of my hair rather than try to comb it out I nearly did the same thing all of the time as an adult. So right away I walk in and the place looks absolutely modern and clean. Love the whole feel & vibe of the place! Karen, my hair stylist, greets me right away and offers me some coffee and she made it soooo good! Right off the bat I was already like wow best service I have received so far and it only gets better! She then has me sit down and really pays attention to what I want. She was so sweet the entire time and so easy to talk to! Mind you, I came all the way from LA to get my hair done by her because I heard through a friend that she does incredible hair and to top it all off the salon is great. So long story short she did my hair and I was sooooo happy with the results! I WILL be coming back. Even if it takes me 2.5 hours to get here lol. I am so happy that I found Mike after searching high and low for a great stylist. Mike is it! I moved to LA two years ago and have tried a few different shops. In the past year or so I decided that my curly hair needs to be accepted and respected. Well, turns out it's really hard for stylists to cut my hair correctly. I searched curly hair forums and Yelp trying to find someone that would make the cut. ;) After searching yelp I found a review from someone with curly hair who praised Mike and his salon. I decided to write him and see if he would be a good fit. His price is more than fair so I decided to go for it. A quick drive into Westwood, parked, and I was in the chair! We actually had a miscommunication where our phones were not actually getting all of our texts through, but Mike gracefully accepted my appointment regardless. First question was "How married are you to long hair?". This was the right question because I was not married to it at all. Chop it all off if you have to, I said. Well, that's not really what I said. So he started chopping away! We must have cut off 5 inches of terrible, split ended, color treated, old hair. He used techniques that I haven't even seen since I moved and felt so at home. Next thing I knew, I'm looking at a bouncy, curly hair cut that is exactly what I wanted! I got a really great cut from Michael the other day! I have fine wavy hair that was really long when I went in and I wanted to lighten it up and enhance my curls without making it too short. I have paid for a $250 haircut from a curly hair salon and I've gotten plenty of $15 SuperCuts - both cuts were far from super. I had given up on finding someone who could cut my hair. I had resigned the search and usually went to the student salon to save money. I had started to wonder if I should just cut my own hair, because Lord knows I could do a better job than the last student who hacked away at my head. I found Mike because he was the only salon open in the Village on a Sunday night. Thank god! I'd always been skeptical of miracles, but this experience has made me a believer! Mike is not only a great stylist, but he knows how to cut hair. Getting a hair cut is always a challenge for me. I usually end up overpaying for a mediocre cut. Sure, the stylist can do wonders with a hair dryer and some hair goo, but as soon as I wash my doo, there goes everything I liked about my hair when I walked out their salon door. I am terrible at blow drying and styling my hair. I can never make my hair look even close to what it was supposed to. Mike is amazing!! I have had long curly hair my entire life - those of you with curls know just how important a good cut is. I had reached the point where I left it long with simple layers because I had received one too many of the mushroom cuts and poor layering. Mike pretty much saved me. I don't often write reviews, however I had to put this one out there. A friend recommended Karen and I was a bit skeptical about driving to North Park from La Jolla at first. But let me tell you, it is so worth the trip. Karen has been styling, coloring and trimming my hair since last October. I can honestly say that I have never been to a hair stylist that provides the degree of professionalism, time, talent, concern and attention to detail as Karen. She listens and truly cares about her clients. In addition, her pricing is very reasonable. Karen is also co-owner of the salon.
