I can't say I'm impressed by this place. They have a nice little vibe with a DJ spinning some music. Despite the freezing cold weather, they were able to keep the restaurant at a comfortable temperature. However, the food and drinks just weren't satisfying. The shrimp taco were so tiny and the toppings were bare minimum. My drink was flavorless but strong. I didn't even finish it. Service was okay. My food took some time to come out but the waitstaff did a good job taking orders, making drinks in a timely fashion, and answering any questions To improve I'd say make the tacos more appealing. Create something that makes a powerful impact on my taste buds. The drinks could use more flavor. The tacos needed more flavor, esp the shrimp. I wouldn't mind coming back to give this place another chance and try some other things. read more

Everything about The Kitchen by Cooking with Que was exactly as it should be. The airy, bright space is filled with comfortable or high top seating. Servers are friendly and knowledgeable. And the food is the star, like it should be. I had the apple pancakes with oat crumble, literally couldn't have been any better. My dining companion had the Que breakfast sandwich and could not stop exclaiming how absolutely delicious it was. My companion is lactose intolerant, so it was nice to have a meal at a restaurant where she could order anything she wanted off the menu. I went to this restaurant with my family a few years ago, the Mac-n-cheese was SO good we had to come back. During our visit to Detroit we came twice simply just for the Vegan Mac. I've never taking a cooking class, let alone a group one. So I I did not know what to expect when I arrived. The class was booked, which was a good thing. The host Que and the other guests were full of good vibes and good energy. This class was "Taste of Jamaica" with Chef Khashana. She was a Jamaican native and gave us a little info about her background. It was a large kitchen with seating around it like a diner. The meal we helped to prepare was jerk chicken, rice & pea (beans) and cabbage. They had us individually come up and help with the preparation of the meal. That was actually really fun. While doing so my fellow class goers cheered each other on. Great for those of us less seasoned in the kitchen. Pun intended . The meal turned out really well. We made mild and spicy chicken. We all had the chance to smell and taste the fresh ingredients as we prepared the meal. We were also given the recipes for all dishes. All items were cooked perfectly. If you're a vegan or at least willing to mix vegan with some protein, this is the place for you. I have to highly recommend the spicy chickpea soup and my friend said the lasagna soup was something he'd order again. Not being a vegan, I'm vegetarian, it took a little getting used to the taste of the vegan cheese. I'm a cheese addict so no surprise that it wasn't exactly my favorite item. Quaint, Unique, and Exactly what we were looking for! Entertaining family in town and she was vegan so catering to her we went to experience The Kitchen by Cooking with Que. The staff makes you feel comfortable and at home when you walk in with warm smiles, patience, and attentiveness. They are knowledgeable about the menu and able to offer sound recommendations. We created a smorgasbord of delicious bites: Stacked waffle sandwich, creamy loaded grits, Mac and cheez, and kimchi hash. As a firm pro-meat eater, I want to state that the stacked waffle sandwich was one of the most scrumptious breakfast sandwiches I've ever had. 10/10 would get again and will be returning to re-enjoy it. All the dishes were prepared with a depth of flavor, delectably plated, and sung with love in every bite. Where do I start....the RSVP deposit of $20 was very misleading (Wine Down Friday) cooking with Que. I really thought I was going to experience several things, either the cost was associated with a mini cooking class, wine tasting, mixing of drink class since there was a time slot limit. I was very disappointed that neither of the things I mentioned happened. I inquired about the $20 RSVP and was told that it was for the DJ AND BAND. There was NO BAND and the female DJ was alright, to top it off my group of 10 individuals paid for RSVP and watched other people walk in without paying at all. The food was not satisfying buffalo cauliflower wings was very tiny, I think for the price you pay there should have been a better serving of cauliflower so called wings. The cost of the drinks need to be adjusted to the current event, for example if it's WINE DOWN FRIDAY there should be special WINE prices for that evening. read more

I highly recommend!!!!! We have visited a few times and never regret it. A small, welcoming space with big personality and delicious food and drinks (the espresso martini is my fave). I come for the vegan options so I don't have to worry about my food allergies, but my family has enjoyed the non-vegan options as well. The environment is fun; Que is always wonderful to talk with and has so much to be proud of in what she has created here...and if you didn't know - THEY ALSO CATER...and do cooking classes!!! Que's daughter Kaitlin is great and I enjoy talking with her as well. We've been in for live dj and a loud,fun, diverse group of people. Vegan mac n cheese was amazing! It taste just like regular mac n cheese. I can see myself just going there for it often.

I wish I could give half stars bc I'd go to 4.5 but I can't justify 5 stars because of some service issues and not every dish was amazing. But despite this, I would highly recommend trying this place and I'd definitely go again. I ordered the hot Italian sandwich, my mom got the oh kale yeah burger, and her friend got the fish sandwich. We also got the spicy chickpea soup. First off, the kale burger was AMAZING!!! That mushroom vegan cheese blend is so freakin good. The waiter said that is a classic that's been on the menu so on his recommendation, she got it. I can't comment on the fish sandwich bc I didn't try but her friend said it was good. My hot Italian sandwich wasn't bad but it wasn't amazing like my moms burger. It did lack some flavor. (I asked for some hot sauce with it but it never came). The soup had an ok flavor but it was mostly like liquid with chickpeas in it than a proper soup. Also the inside of this place is so cute. It's super communal but it's so light and airy and homey inside. The staff was VERY nice and so was Que herself. She has so much energy and passion for her place. I love it! But the service was overall slow and they kept messing up. It took a while to get our food, we never got water (Que realized this and got us some) for a long time, I asked the waiter for hot sauce but he never brought it, and it felt like we were waiting an hour for the bill. My mom didn't notice bc she was enjoying the time with her friend but I did. They also brought out a cup, not bowl of soup, but they graciously didn't charge us for the soup at all and brought an extra cup out. I don't mind mistakes. We all make them. But there were several issues especially with wait times. There were several people waiting around for carry out orders and stuff and the staff kept saying "it will be out in two seconds" but it was more like twenty minutes. read more

Very beautiful ambiance Airy and open with tall chairs and pleasant staff. The vegan waffle with real maple syrup (tasted like the Michigan delicacy) was a pleasant surprise. Advertised as vegan, they accommodated we omnivores with real chicken to go with this good waffle. The coffee was strong with a interesting blend of cardamom and cinnamon added which was a hit with me . The service caused the loss of star for this new midtown favorite. I have been walking by this place at lunch time and finally decided to stop in. They're geared towards vegetarians and vegans but can add chicken and salmon to things. Its brightly lit interiors is welcoming and very clean. I was welcomed right away and his recommendation was the buffalo cauliflower tacos. It was $13 which seems a little pricey but it's a filling meal. I expected the cauliflower to be fried but it's more of a pickled taste. They have juices as well so will return to trial that next time. Great spot for a quick lunch, wasn't very busy either. But it is a new spot and I anticipate that the crowds will be there soon. read more

Stopped in for the first time to grab a smoothie. I got the Peach Cobbler smoothie and it was amazing! Very fresh, healthy ingredients, and it tasted just like a drinkable peach cobbler! Went here for to-go service with my colleagues. The decor is super cute, and there are a lot of fun items for purchase that you can peruse while you wait. Service was super friendly. But even all of this was outdone by my delicious MLT. I didn't know what mushroom bacon was, but I miss BLTs, so I went for it, and it was probably the most delicious sandwich I ever had. It came with a side salad, which I had to eat for dinner alone with the other half of the sandwich, because just one half of the MLT was super filling. I haven't had one terrible menu item from this place. The cauliflower wings, shawarma sandwich, and that damn sweet potato cheezcake are some of my favorites. I highly recommend the lavender lemonade omg it's so good. I most especially love that this place is black WOMAN owned--so beautiful. They are always so welcoming, kind, down to earth, honest and just black. I love seeing black owned businesses like this pop up in Detroit. The location is great, but prepare to possibly look for a park for awhile (that's pretty much anywhere downtown). I saw that they do cooking classes here as well, that's next on my agenda! I came here for brunch during Detroit black restaurant week. They were unfortunately out of many menu items but I ended up going with the vegan catfish sliders and cauliflower tacos. The sliders were delicious! The fried mushroom was super crispy crunchy and satisfying. Definitely would get again. My partner enjoyed the cauliflower tacos as well. Because they were understaffed that day and out of a lot of items we were given free iced coffees which was much appreciated. The buffalo cauliflower wings are the bomb! First time here. Been trying to get here for a while after the seeing on the news and reading in the paper. Parking is ugh! 10 min for take out in front or park longer around side of building by the hour. I found a spot right in front when I visited so I could dine in and watch out for my car. I ordered tofu shawarma and upgraded to potatoes for a side. The chicken shawarma was flavored very well. I think I would have enjoyed more as a salad. Potatoes were ok. I was suggested Mac n cheese but does not come in a combo and would have been too much food. I think that would have been a better side than potatoes for me. 45 minutes wait for the food, I got my order delivered but they messed up my partner's order ("we don't have hummus"). Another 15 minutes (or longer) wait for that order. Spent over 1.5 hours for what essentially are to-go foods at an outdoor makeshift seating. Not sure it's worth it. They made up, somehow, by giving out free desserts. But at that point, the mood has been ruined. Parking was plentiful (had to add money because we didn't think we'd spent that much time). I used to order their 7-day cooked meals prior to the pandemic. Having delicious and healthy shakes for breakfast, salads for lunch, various soups and meals for dinner was exactly what I was looking for and what I could manage with my busy schedule.
