The Kitchen was exactly what I wanted from a down-home Southern place. It's clear that most are regulars but even as a random I was warmly welcomed. They only serve lunch and only certain things on certain days so check the menu ahead of time. The day I visited they had fried chicken, baked chicken or smothered steak. Meals are around $9 and come with 3 sides, a bread (yeast roll or cornbread) AND cake. That's a LOT of food for $9! But - how was it? Amazing - that's how it was! I had baked chicken (white) with white beans, mac and cheese and broccoli rice, with cornbread. My chicken had wonderfully crisp, nicely seasoned skin with juicy meat. The beans were plenty good (cooked with sausage) and I really liked the super cheesy buttery mac and cheese. The broccoli rice (I had never heard of this) was the star though - just completely delicious. What else? Tea is homemade, my cornbread was BY FAR the best I've ever had - still warm and light as air - and my cake was the sweet ending to a meal that was clearly made with love. These nothing I love more than a slightly hole in the wall Southern diner and the Kitchen delivered big time. Great food, great people - and you won't leave hungry!

My daughter was recently in the hospital for 3 weeks. She was very ill & nearly died. We are a retired military family so we have friends all over. These two flew in specifically to be with us during this time. The one thing requested was SOUL FOOD! Let me just say, The Kitchen did NOT disappoint! So much so that we had it two days in a row! Definitely a bright moment in a very dark time of our lives! Delicious!!!!

Smothered Pork Chop, greens and yams...mmmm!

The food is always delicious--so close to how my Cajun grandmother cooked. And the staff could not be friendlier or more fun.

The restaurant was decorated as you would expect a good Cajun restaurant to be decorated in. Service was nice and friendly and you order at the register and they bring your food to you. Service was great even after we got our food. A server asked us if we needed refills and if we wanted them in to-go cups, which scored bonus points with me! Here's what I had on this lunch visit: The crawfish pistollette (8/10) which was a small appetizer that was bread with some crawfish etouffee on top. Bread was nicely cooked and the etouffee on top was delicious. Solid starter! The Cajun Cooking Sampler (9/10) - this was a sampler with 3 amazing dishes. I got the shrimp and crab gumbo, which is classic Louisiana gumbo and it was outstanding! The sampler also had a bowl of crawfish etouffee which was good but felt it needed a bit more etoufee to mix with the rice. Lastly, the special of the day was fish courtbouillon which was a fish in tomato based sauce over rice. I really enjoyed this as the fish has a great texture and there was a lot of flavor in the sauce. Overall, solid lunch meal in the $ to $$ range depending on what you order. Recommend you trying it for a great Cajun experience!

There were three of us, and we enjoyed ourselves so much that we stayed until closing! We started with the Crab Beignets and the Bone Marrow Tartare. I had never tried bone marrow tartare before, but it was absolutely incredible. The combination of prime tenderloin tartare, bone marrow, garlic aioli, and chimichurri purée was unique and packed with flavor. For our entrees, we had the Lobster Pasta, Mushroom Pasta with Chicken, and the Power Bowl with Shrimp. Every dish was outstanding. The Power Bowl was especially flavorful, and I absolutely loved the sauce. The lobster pasta was rich and delicious, and the mushroom pasta was perfectly prepared. To finish, we shared the Brownie in a Cup, which was the perfect ending to a fantastic meal. Everything we ordered was amazing. Great food, excellent service, and a wonderful atmosphere. Calla is definitely a place we'll be returning to. Highly recommended!

Christiano was a fantastic server and took great care of us. The menu is innovative and the flavors are on point. The steak frites and fried oysters are great, the sea bass and beef shank specials were literally to die for. And I would be remiss, if I didn't give a major shout out to the greatness that resides in both the beef and chopped salads. They're incredible. The cocktails are crafty and well made to boot. The brownie in a cup dessert was my personal favorite, but the nutty cheesecake is surprisingly light and delicious also. All in all, Calla's got it all going on and you can't miss it. Cheers!

After viewing the lunch buffet we decided to give it a try to save time. It seemed today most of the customers were locals comprised of contractors and maybe plant workers, there was no doubt this place is a local favorite. After placing our drink orders we proceeded to the steam table and grabbed our plates, most of the food seemed fresh and definitely hot, the kitchen was in the process of refilling items as we served ourselves. Honestly there was nothing bad here but after trying a few bites I was reaching for the hot sauce to jazz things up a bit. I thought the prices were a little steep considering the portions we chose, if you're one that will make multiple trips to the food bar it's probably a good deal. We felt the food quality and preparation was just okay, it's likely we would not return or travel out of our way to dine here again. The staff was very friendly and accommodating it's just not the type of place we frequent...
