Overpriced and overhyped considered the restaurant posted like three posters of it being in the Michelin recommended guide. The ambiance is nice since it's very bright and spacious. I also like how the tables are spaced out more compared to other Chinese restaurants. My family and I ordered for dinner: + Braised Fish Head in Clay Pot--Very delicious and peppery. I like the chunks of meat in between the bones. + Braised Oysters and Tofu Clay Pot--It was just okay, but at least they give you lots of oysters for the price. + Stir Fry Beef and Chinese Broccoli in Satay Sauce--This was very tasty also and the Chinese broccoli was perfect green and crunchy. + Beef Stew in Broth--The beef was super duper tough, the soup was good but left me very thirsty. + Fermented Tofu with Tong Choy--Taste like every other places but omg, double the price. The food was good, nicely presented but overpriced, the service was meh. It took forever to get our waiters' attention considered one of them kept talking casually to another guy at another table. They also don't check on our tea pot and stuff as often. I came for dimsum around 12:30 on a Friday with my coworkers - perks: 1. Found parking right in front 2. Got seated right when we got inside I'd say this is your typical Chinese restaurant. It takes awhile to get the waiter's attention (be assertive!), the lighting is very yellow, and it's crowded. The dimsum wasn't spectacular in my opinion but it was still tasty. They did have an option that I've never heard of before: mushroom rice roll. Their shrimp dumplings were incredibly sticky and fell apart- the glutinous rice outside coated my chopsticks like really thick molasses .. and stuck there. The shrimp itself was really plentiful though! We also ordered the pork shiu mai, turnip cake, tofu skin in broth, and chive dumpling. By far the best dish we ordered was their dry scalloped fried rice. It's a really simple / non-greasy dish that was really comforting for the cold weather. Service was extremely quick though! We got our food within 3 minutes of ordering. Between the seven of us it was about $11 a person, not bad since we had a comfortable amount to eat / there were leftovers. We've been coming here from the city almost every weekend for a month now. The dimsum here is a lot cheaper than the nicer dimsum restaurants in the city (namely Yang Sink), so it's worth the drive to come out here on the weekends. For 2, it will cost us about $40-45 for all the dimsum we could ever want on a Sunday afternoon. We will typically spend about double that at Yang Sink for about half the food we get. The wait isn't too bad. We typically get there around 12-1PM and get our number in line, and drive around for 5-10 minutes for parking. My mother in law took me here today since I have been craving for dim sum. I was surprised how busy this restaurant was ~ 1pm on a Thursday. We waited a few minutes before a table for 2 freed up. We ordered: Chicken Feet Deep Fried Taro Shrimp Dumplings Rice Rolls with Green Beans Steamed BBQ Pork Buns Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaves Everything tasted great, I loved the rice rolls with fresh green beans and the sticky rice. I'm not a huge fan of chicken feet but it was actually very flavorful and tasty. Service is a little slow but can't expect too much from a chinese restaurant. Uhm...I came here with a few friends for a quick dim sum lunch. Service was OK. Hard to expect good service at a chinese dim sum place where it's super busy during lunch on the weekends. Food wasn't bad. BUT...my friend did find a piece of METAL in his food. We were shocked. He was chewing and realized there was something hard in his mouth. He spat it out and it was a piece of METAL! Probably from the frying pan or something. We informed our watier....who didn't seem very apologetic. Took the dish and just replaced it. THEN...my other friend found another piece of metal in his food. We felt bad telling the waiter. We imagined they would think we are playing a prank on them or just trying to get a free meal. One of the few chinese places my family and i love going to because of its innovative dishes the owner keeps coming up with. its also super chinese in here which basically means english is NO one's first language so come prepared for a lot of odd stares. i've been dumsum here once and honestly its not their strong suit, but what is their strong suit is dinner. here are some dishes my family and i love getting -pigs stomach and shredded chicken -duck stew -black pepper ribs -lamb shank stew -the classic steamed fish finished w/ soy sauce i think its always funny that yelpers are so ready to take this place down yet almost every night the place is PACKED. there are tons of families and groups waiting in the cold and rain to eat here. so even though it has 3 stars, if all the chinese people are here waiting.. they're doing something right read more

The staff yells at each other in front of customers, and you can't get assistance from the wait staff unless you speak Chinese. Anyhow, we came here with family friends who suggested it for Chinese New Year's. The dim sum was not good at all, I've definitely had better and was really disappointed! the dumplings skins were falling off even after cooling down a bit. all the dim sum seemed to be missing something, whether not being fried enough or wrong ingredients in the dumpling. This Hong Kong style Chinese place was Michelin Guide recommended in 2011. Who knew? We went for dinner. Not spectacular but not too bad. "Not too bad" in polite Chinese actually means "pretty good," and you never really say something is excellent because that would be too transparent. Anyhow , the most amazing thing about this place is that as soon as we ordered, the food started coming out. Every inch of our lazy Susan was occupied before that thing made one complete turn! Dishes kept coming and going so fast I'm not sure what we ate. I'm sorry but it was just too fast to enjoy what was served. I came here for Thanksgiving this year. A key trait of some of the dishes with sauce is the usage of corn starch to make the sauce a little bit viscous including soups. All the dishes were palatable, except I would just avoid abalone for people who don't like seafood. The standout dish was the complimentary sweet potato dessert soup. Since I usually come to large family style restaurants with elders, I can't give an accurate break down of price, but here's the food report: - Lobster: Lightly steamed. Had some onion garnish. - Half-plate of duck: The duck looked a little bit too lean and the bun to duck to ratio was unfavorable. we had extra leftover buns. - Abalone with veggies: I just don't have an acquired taste for abalone and prefer my land animals over sea animals. Came here late one evening with a group of 7. While the food was decent, the service was horrible bordering discriminatory. When we asked about being seated, the host made a comment about how he speaks Cantonese and not Mandarin. Hmm, this kind of tone may have been acceptable in Hong Kong... in the 90s. (We are in a different country and century now -- get with it!) Anyway, so we sit down and order food. The waiter who took our order gave us an impatient look and grabbed our menus from us as soon as we were done ordering, even though some of us were still looking at the menu. To top off the horrendous service, we later find a piece of metal wire in the Fujian Fried Rice. When we flagged a waiter down to let them know, rather than taking responsibility of the situation, he simply walked away. There are tons of better Cantonese places with much more professional service around the Bay Area. I, for one, do not tolerate discrimination and will not be coming back here again. read more

I just tried to order from ChowNow and this restaurant's menu is missing a lot of basic items ie. Shrimp dumpling, shiu mai, beef chow fun etc.? Not sure what is going on and when I called to ask the staff they don't know and don't seem to care. It is so frustrating. I hate calling because they put you on hold and communication is not that great. Also I have to go, wait in line with a lot of people and pay and wait again....... It is a lovely restaurant, brightly lit and golden colored. The Dim Sum is delicious but aside from that, they also have a large variety of specialty dishes. The only thing that didn't taste particularly tasty that day was the Liu Sha Bao. The salty egg taste inside was not fresh and it did not have that lava-flowing texture. That was a bit disappointing. The only thing is they took an unusually long time cooking up our last dish. It was understandable because the place was very busy. I really liked this place! I came here with some Asian parents while I was on layover in SFO on a Monday evening. It is super close by. After we ordered our dishes (not dim sum), they brought over a very "bu-shi" type of chicken soup - lots of Chinese herbs, ginger, and chicken fattiness melted into the broth. It definitely warmed me up for the rest of the food. We ordered a tofu w/ shrimp on top, veggies w/ pumpkin, and a stone pot fish dish. I really liked all of them! The tofu was fresh and soft with just the right amount of shrimp and flavor. The greens were really yummy and refreshing. The stone pot fish was perfectly cooked with a good amount of searing. One of the reasons my friends liked this restaurant is because it's less salty and oily than other places. The flavor is pretty good and everything is super fresh. I've been to this place quite a few times now. The first few times, I thought it was really good. Now, it just seems to keep losing points with every visit. I have three things to point out: Dim Sum - Average. Nothing special. Dinner - Pretty good. They're very creative with their dishes. They have dishes you can't get anywhere else. Quite impressed. The Kitchen had a great array of traditional Chinese dishes to choose from. We went on July 4th for dinner. The food was flavorful and presented quite nicely. Everything came out in a timely manner. The only downer was the fight for the last round table. This place is packed all the time and actually received several Michelin Star ratings. So be sure to have your entire party there, if you want to be considered for seating. Overall, I will be back. I liked the food. Best Dim Sum I've had in a LONG time! I came early on a weekend and waited in line for them to open (10am). I recommend doing that, otherwise, if you don't make into the restaurant on the first round, then it's gonna be a long wait until you get a table. It fills up fast too. No one was there at 9:40am, then suddenly a rush of people congregated outside within mins around 9:50am. I don't know if I just haven't had good authentic Cantonese Dim Sum in a long time or if this place is really the bee's knees but all the dim sum really surprised me on how tasty and skillfully made they were. I think everything tasted incredible but here are some highlights: The shrimp dumplings (har gau) were spot on in terms of taste and how thin the skin was. The pork/veggies wrapped in tofu skin was immersed in this super flavorful broth that really brought out the flavors of the dish! I had the shrimp rice wrap and the beef rice wrap and BOTH tasted AMAZING and the rice wrap was incredibly thin! So skillful! The sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaf had the perfect amount of texture, meat to rice ratio and flavor. It was incredible! I don't want to bore you by rambling on and on about the food or raise your expectations too high..but I think you get the point, I thought everything was a mouthful of delight!! The dim sum staff was also pretty nice. If the dim sum ladies didn't have a dish we were looking for or they ran out of something, they would actually go into the kitchen and bring us a freshly made one. Our tea was maintained, we got everything we needed and weren't neglected. We weren't even rushed to leave when it got really busy and we just sat there and chatted for a bit. This is definitely a staple in the bank of Peninsula Chinese food restaurants and we come here for both dim sum and dinner. I like their dim sum - true, it's not the most exciting but they consistently perform and they do have that dish - the pig's feet with egg and vinegar, which I love. They also serve that melted custard steam bun, just like we had when we were in Hong Kong earlier this year. Yummy! For dinner, the Kitchen serves authentic dishes which differentiates itself from HK Flower Lounge, Fook Yuen etc. The squab is excellent, as are all the homestyle/ provincial type of dishes we tend to order (vegetables in soup broth, beef with sugar snap peas, lamb stew etc). I also like their dessert, which is the mango gigi - very refreshing after a large meal. The only dish I would not recommend is the curry crab, or whatever it's called, definitely not good - powdery taste (eww!). We usually get great service because our family knows the help, but that's the way with most traditional Chinese restaurants, so although I can empathize with those that don't get the same level of service, I have just never experienced bad service here. read more

Ordinary dim sum at a very packed place...there's always a shitload of people always waiting for tables. Only reason that I come here is because we know the hostess and waiters there and they always give us the tables instead of waiting in line and get our dishes on demand. Now, what can I really say about this place other than that the dim sum tastes the same as any other dim sum place. There are no special plates or dishes that can give this place an advantage over any other dim sum house. The prices here are exceptional....not the cheapest but definitely not pricey. Overall, like I said...only reason I drive all the way to Millbrae is because of the no-wait and we get the special attention. If you are looking for good good dim sum...this is not the place.....but if you are looking for exceptional dim sum and a 10-15 minute wait with decent parking...this is the spot for you. Dinner plates are actually better in my opinion. The dinner specials are pretty cheap and has a wide selection of seafood and veggies. Absolutely delicious Cantonese food. Perfect preparation. Standout dish is Ja Ji Kai - similar to preparation of Peking Duck, but it's chicken. The skin is so crispy, it cracks like glass. Also the Fish Head Hot Pot, which sounds frightening, but it's just the meat from the cheeks and the collar. It's deep fried and then lightly braised, leaving almost no sauce, just tender, ever so slightly gelatinous fish. Salt & Pepper Prawns are great, a little more battered than elsewhere. Peking Spareribs are the best I've ever had. Service is quick and polite. They're on the pricey side, but not unreasonable. We got 6 dishes, and it came to $99. This place gets packed, but somehow despite the throngs, we've never had to wait for a table. Conveniently open until 1am. read more

Beef Balls - No, not the cajones. Chinese version of the spaghetti meatball. Mushier than what I'm used to, plus no Worcestershire sauce given. Sticky Rice wrapped with Leaf - Decent, but not the best I've had. No lap cheung inside. No homo. Ha Gao - Shrimp Dumplings were fresh and the skin not too thick. Thumbs up! Siu Mai - Not bad. Big pieces of shrimp in the Siu Mai. Baked BBQ Pork Buns - Ehh..nothing special. Anhie T. loved these...as usual. Goose Intestines with Green Beans - Bland. Siu Long Bao - Shade above average. I liked how all four of them in the dish still had the "juices" inside (No homo.) when you bit into it. Tripe - Had better at East Ocean in Alameda. Mango Pudding - Runnier than usual, but used fresh mangoes! This was really good! Good dining experience, as my water cup was always filled. Parking is a bit tough b/c they have no private lot. Once a year I have dinner with my Mother-In-Law's Brother and his wife, daughter, and son-in-law. They're all really terrific, friendly people, but they always insist on eating traditional Chinese food for most of their stay in the country. Inevitably, I end up joining them for at least one of these meals and every year the food somehow manages to get worse no matter where we go. I've seen perfectly good crab drowned in tasteless, spackle-like porridge. I've eaten rubbery geoduck which defied description as it bounced around on my teeth. I've recoiled at arthritic, mutant chicken feet blanketed in a pungent sauce that was something like vinegar and chocolate barely mixed together... Tonight we went to the Kitchen in Millbrae. It's a pretty nondescript Chinese restaurant with tacky, misspelled pictures of unappetizing food slapped up all over the walls and the ubiquitous fish tank in the back with an assortment of dead and dying denizens who probably spend the nights dreaming of some far off exotic ocean where they use to roam... Only a third of our party was present when I showed up and the crowds piling up at the door were making the staff itchy to get rid of us despite our assurances that the rest of the peeps would be showing up shortly. Their command of the English language was minimal at best, so any attempt on my part to tell them to chill out would have been met with a smile and a shake of the head. My Mother-In-Law and Aunt fended them off while I quickly scanned the menu for some dish to start with. To be fair, I can't say anything was too horrifying in our choices with the exception of the gelatinous fish maw soup and the cremated head that accompanied the roast chicken. The walnut shrimp (ordered for the other white guy in the group) tasted extremely oily and still had the tail on under the batter. The assortment of noodles we ordered were starchy and stuck together which made serving them very frustrating to everybody at the table. A pair of scissors may have helped! The worst part of the meal was most definitely the wait staff. They were attentive in an abusive manner; not giving us things we asked for and prematurely removing glasses and plates before we got a chance to use them. The main waitress brought an incorrect dish to our table and then argued with us about it until she finally, begrudgingly took it away. My white friend next to me desperately tried to order a Coke to replace the one that had been absconded moments earlier. The waiter made noises in response that sounded like "cochlea" and we wouldn't have been surprised to have that actual item show up. When they delivered dishes they barged in on us which resulted in my face being in a variety of armpits as they reached over me without a simple excuse me. I should have tickled them!
