My family and I have always been big fans of this dim sum chain, however, we had a very disappointing experience dining here today. First, when we politely asked if they could remove the tea charge for one of our family members who doesn't drink tea, the server laughed and said no. This was surprising, especially since we are returning customers and have had this accommodated in the past each visit. Based on his tone, we chose not to escalate the situation. Second, we were charged for an item that no one at our table ordered. As a family, everyone takes turns marking the menu. It's never been an issue. We later confirmed this after noticing the dish was completely untouched towards the end of the meal. Upon reviewing the menu we had used to mark our selections, all of our marks were in blue ink and this item was in black with a signature (see photo). It was clear that this item had been added in a different color ink than the rest of our order. This was not a misunderstanding - it was added without our knowledge. We were charged $34 for it. Finally, the quality of that same dish (duck and rice noodle) was not great. It contained mostly bones, including the duck head (yes, the head ) and neck, with very little actual meat. If this is actually how the dish usually is prepared, it's definitely not worth $34. Overall, today's experience felt dishonest and disappointing. We hope management takes this feedback seriously and addresses these issues moving forward.

My family and I gathered for our birthday/summer celebrations at this halfway point, and the dim sum was overall excellent, as usual! We wish they'd offer the traditional Chinese custard tarts and sesame seed balls, though. We had the Portugese custard tarts, but they're too sweet for our taste. We tried the jumbo pumpkin sesame seed balls before, but we don't care for the pumpkin filling and it was too big. It was busy but arriving at 10:45 AM was perfect to avoid the crowds and find parking, and we were seated right away! We were unable to flag a waiter to get water for my nephew, though. Overall, we were very happy!

A beautiful and wonderful restaurant. Over the years, attentive service received on each of my visits. On top of dim sum and hot pot, they also serve delicious fresh/live seafood dishes; with HL's "clams" and "geoduck" being my favorites. Looking forward to the future in continuing to meet up here with my San Francisco-area's family when I fly in or out from SFO! CHEERS!

We were originally planning on going to HL Peninsula Pearl next door, but saw this location next to it. I originally thought that this location just served hot pot, but our server told us that this location started offering dim sum to serve overflow customers. Even though there was a red egg party going on and it was a Saturday during prime lunch time, the wait wasn't too bad. We were led into a private room with large windows, which provided views of the water and planes taking off/landing. Our order: Hot tea: $1.65/person +Tea cups were easy to hold. -We selected 茉香玉露 Jasmine, and it wasn't as fragrant as other jasmine teas I've had. 法式香草焗餐包 Barbecue Pork Bun (3): $6.80 +Bun was soft with a slight crisp +Good amount of BBQ pork filling that wasn't too fatty 萝卜牛杂 Beef Offal Stew w/Turnip: $14.28 +Not too salty -Lacked variety: There were only 2 kinds (honeycomb tripe & intestine) 蟹子烧麦 Crab Roe Siu Mai (4 pcs): $6.80 +Shrimper's delight: Filling was full of shrimp and topped w/shrimp roe -A bit spicy since there was a lot of black pepper -Seemed haphazardly made as they couldn't even stand upright and some of the wrappers were torn. 鮮蝦腸 Shrimp Rice Noodle Rolls (3 rolls/6 pcs): $9.80 +Filled with large, plump shrimp +Rice noodles were silky smooth and thin. +Despite sitting in a pool of soy sauce, it wasn't salty. -The 2 snap peas seemed out of place. 百花蜂巢糕 Steamed Honey Comb Cake (3): $7.80 +As the name suggested, it had a lot of holes, which are probably what made it chewy. It was permeated with honey and not too sweet. -It was slightly salty on the outside, which was odd. 魚腐紅花蚌浸西洋菜 (Special): $16.88 -Fish tofu was salty. -Red coral clams were inconsistent: The piece I ate was very chewy whereas the piece my dad ate was perfectly cooked. -I don't like watercress, but my parents like it so they enjoyed this dish a lot. Side notes: 1.) 16% automatic service charge with tax was automatically added to our bill. 2.) Large free parking lot *Verdict: 3.5 stars rounded down to 3 d/t service. We were still eating, and the waiter brought us the bill. What made it awkward was that they brought in another party and told them that they could sit at our table once we were done.

HL Peninsula Garden is located right next to HL Peninsula Pearl which is one of a few in the HL family of restaurants in Burlingame/SSF. In my opinion, I would stick with either Pearl or the OG HL Peninsula Restaurant (even though this one has no view). Garden seems to try to emulate the others with an upper class feel but I thought the service was pretty bad at best which really put a damper on otherwise elevated Chinese banquet food. First we had made a reservation for 14 but the table was only set for 12 which irked mom who was clear about the reservation. It was also a bummer that we couldn't get seated by the large windows and instead got sat next to the bathroom...I mean, maybe we could have asked at the time of reservation but, it was unfortunate. Then when it came to food, the first half of dinner came flying out but then it screeched to a halt midway through with a dish arriving every 10 minutes or so with the last dish being completely MIA until prompted. Midway through, there was a "plate change" where the wait staff just piled all the new plates in the middle and left. Really odd! What do I do with my soiled plate? Food wise, most everything was good. I enjoyed the golden sand shrimp, the fried honey spareribs, and the string beans with pork and olive leaves best! The truffled fried rice did impart just enough black truffle flavor to make it interesting and I also thought both chicken (ginger and soy) were perfectly silky. Some dishes were a bit salty like our chicken and oyster clay pot and the red bean dessert, albeit already not my favorite, was also undercooked leading to a bitter taste. So while it wasn't all bad, I'd definitely rank Garden as the lowest tier HL in the area.

Came here to for a family gathering. We got a private room in the back which was very spacious, considering we had 20+ people. Everything was pretty good but not extraordinary.

Combining several experiences into one review. My family celebrated birthday over dinner here twice. The setting is beautiful with floor to ceiling massive windows facing the bay view. There are usually a few other parties dining at the same time so it's the right balance of festivity and usually sufficient level of attention from staff. We enjoy most of the traditional dishes - Peking duck, lobster noodle, steamed chicken with ginger sauce, wagyu fillet sliced with veggies, etc. The meal typically ends with complimentary Chinese dessert such as red bean paste soup. We also tried dim sum lunch on a weekday and the place was quite deserted by 1:30pm and we never got rushed to leave and we stayed until 3:30 ish. All dim sum I tried were very good. But for weekend dim sum, some wait is expected. Given the overall ambiance and food quality and service, I would not hesitate to eat here and skip koi palace.

Beautiful view of the Bay. Extensive menu with many traditional favorites including dim sum. The filling on the Ha Gow was perfect but the wrappers fell apart. Seemed to be a theme, as the wrappers on our other dumplings arrived split and open. Baked pork bun was delicious the standout and the Beef Chow Fun was a huge miss. Flavorless, greasy and very little beef. Service was varied. One waitress was fairly friendly and professional, the other was a big grouch. You'll get fed but there are much better options around.

Fried Sticky Rice Pork Dumpling - 4.5 stars. Great mix of sweet mochi bun (with a nice crisp) and savory filling. Sat lunch 2025-03-22

We came here because HL Peninsula Pearl next door had a 20 minute wait for 5 adults, 2 kids, at 11:10am on a Saturday. There was no wait here around 11:20pm. Service was good. We found a piece of foil in our Shanghai dumplings so they gave us a free replacement plus 2 additional plates of buns, both very good. There was a baby shower/party happening in one corner of the main room; they had half walls to separate the area, but you could see the entire party, and the photos of the baby that were projected onto a large screen on the wall. Fun for the kids to look at the giant crabs, lobsters, and fish by the entrance! * Steamed Shrimp Dumplings * Salty Egg Yolk Lava Bun - 4.5 stars * Steamed Shanghai Dumpling - 3 stars. Got stuck to pan, found a piece of foil in the filling of one (we got a free replacement and 2 free additional dishes). * Salt & Pepper Capelin - 4 stars. * Chinese Tender Green w Garlic - 3.5 stars * Soy Sauce Chow Mein - 3.5 stars. Got this for the kids. They ate it! * Shrimp Rice Noodle Rolls - 4 stars * Soy Sauce Chicken - 4 stars. Very moist chicken, tender meat. If you're not used to this dish, be prepared to pick off a lot of bone and cartilege! * Fried Sticky Rice Pork Dumpling - 4.5 stars. Great mix of sweet mochi bun (with a nice crisp) and savory filling. * Beef Chow Fun Dry Style - 3.5 stars. * BBQ Pork buns - 4 stars * Sweet cheese buns - 4 stars

My brother in law came to visit for the weekend and I wanted to take him to eat at one of my favorite dim sum restaurants: HL Peninsula Pearl. We got there at around 10:45am and there was already an almost 2 hour wait. The lady suggested that we go next door to HL Peninsula Garden if we did not want to wait. We were kind of skeptical going next door because HL Peninsula Pearl was super packed with people still waiting to be seated. We decided not to wait and headed on over to HL Peninsula Garden. I was scared to try this place out in case it didn't exceed our expectations but my brother in law loved it and had a great first dim sum experience! The menu is relatively similar but we thought some of the food tasted better than next door! The servers were super attentive and very responsive! We will definitely be back!

Good views, good food, but no parking at lunch on a Saturday. May spot: celebrity chef Martin Yan (friend of owner) Everything we ate was above average. My favorite was surprisingly their Honey Comb Cake (when hot). Other favorites are: * Chinese Tender Green with Garlic - Yum!! * Simmered Fish Curd & Red Clam w/ Watercress - good unusual soup If you like Pan Fried Water Chestnut Cake, theirs is really good. What I do not recommend are: * Crispy Taro Cake with Pork - over-fried * Steamed Creamy Custard Bun - way prefer Koi Palace's We also tried the following (from most to least favorite): * Steamed Giant Clam w/Garlic * Beef & Yellow Chive Rice Noodle Rolls * Fish Fillet & Scallion Rice Noodle Rolls * Shrimp Rice Noodle Rolls * Beef Offal Stew with Turnip * Salted Pork Bone and Watercress Congee * Salt & Pepper Capelin * Crab Roe Siu Mai - Huge * Pan Fried Turnip Cake & Salty Egg Yolk * Steamed Beancurd Sheet Rolls * Black Bean Sauce Spareribs * Steamed Chicken Feet in Black Bean Sauce * Herbal Chicken Feet - too rich for me I have not tried their premium offerings, which might elevate my rating. So far, I prefer many dim sum restaurants over this one.

Total scam. We ordered a steamed fish, and the server told us it was Dongxing grouper priced at $70 per pound. What we were served was not Dongxing grouper at all. The total for the fish alone came to $191 before tax, which was shocking given what we actually received. We raised this concern with the restaurant, but they insisted it was the correct fish and that the price was justified. I am attaching a photo of a real Dongxing grouper for reference. Authentic Dongxing grouper is red, and it looks nothing like the fish we were served. This is extremely misleading and unacceptable. This establishment is a total scam and will be reported.

Came for Sunday dim sum brunch and there was a bit of a wait since we came a little later but not too bad. The interior is really nice- pretty spacious with a lot of tables and a nice view of the ocean and SFO. Food was served really quickly after ordering. Our favorite is the beef chow fun and overall the dim sum is pretty good. Great place for sunday brunch with family or a big group.

One of the biggest draws is their whole Maine lobster platter, which is surprisingly affordable at around $20. More importantly, the lobsters are freshly steamed and incredibly fresh. They even have a live lobster market inside the restaurant, and if you prefer to cook at home, you can purchase fresh raw lobsters from the market for an even better value. I'm also a big fan of their fresh-shucked oysters. I paid around $4-$5 per oyster during my visit, which was well worth it for the quality. However, if you come during happy hour, they're only $1 each, making it one of the best oyster deals you'll find in the Bay Area. The crab chowder was flavorful and satisfying, while the lobster mac and cheese was loaded with generous chunks of lobster meat. Even if lobster isn't your thing, the menu offers plenty of other seafood options to choose from. There is ample seating, but parking can be challenging. The restaurant is located in a business district where many spaces are reserved, so arriving early is highly recommended. During peak hours, it's common to see a line wrapped around the block just to place an order. The service was excellent as well. Everyone was friendly, helpful, and genuinely welcoming. One thing to keep in mind: this is a fresh steamed seafood spot, not a Southern-style seafood boil. Don't expect heavy seasoning or bold spice blends. Their approach is all about preserving the natural flavor and integrity of the seafood. When the seafood is this fresh, it really doesn't need much else.

One thing to note is that every round of the seafood boil came out absolutely piping hot, sometimes to the point where you had to wait a few minutes before digging in. It definitely felt freshly made each round instead of sitting around, but the temperature was a little excessive at times. I tried the super ultimate sauce, which is a mix of cajun, garlic butter, and lemon pepper. I also liked that they were generous with the sauce and didn't leave everything dry. That said, the flavor itself fell a little flat for me. I was expecting something richer, more buttery, garlicky, and bold, but overall it leaned a bit bland and didn't have the depth I usually look for in a seafood boil. I'm also not someone who handles spice very well, so I originally ordered mild, but even the mild ended up being a little too spicy for me. For the next round, I switched to no spice, which worked out much better. It definitely wasn't bad by any means, just not super memorable flavor-wise. Overall though, the portions, variety, and quality of the seafood made it worth trying, especially if you're going with a group and want AYCE seafood options.

I came here with some friends two days ago. We ordered two crabs (salted egg yolk & peppercorn…read moreflavors), df chicken wings, garlic noodles, pepper steak cubes, and stir fry pea sprouts. Everything came out piping hot. The crabs were fresh, chicken wings were not overly battered, noodles were al dente, and pea sprouts were in season. Whenever I have crab, my favorite sauce/seasoning is the salted egg yolk. Just a hint of saltiness but packed full of umami flavors. After tasting the peppercorn flavor, I found myself loving it too! All the ingredients (peppercorn, tons of garlic "garlicky heaven", and butter) blended well together like one big happy family. This is my new favorite seasoning, a slight edge above the salted egg yolk, as it doesn't taste as greasy. I wish we had taken photos but I was very hungry. This place also has a full bar with 3 good size tv's, which is nice when you want to watch the nba finals too. I thought check-in was on the left as this was the waiting area, and there was a small 'reception' counter which I found confusing. Soooo just a note, be sure to check-in on the right side. We left a little past closing time (9pm) and they didn't rush us. Oh and we were given ice cream cones for dessert. Yuuummm!!! Will definitely be back and highly recommend. Come hungry and leave happy.

We brought my mom here for her birthday dinner and the team did not disappoint! First off we we walked in, party of 6, without reservations. The dining room was bright, 3/4 filled with patrons. We were warmly greeted then promptly seated. Shortly after our server approached us, asked if we had questions, then took our order. Short time after our food started coming out which we all feasted on. We were all completely satisfied, bellys full from everything we ate. The ervice was awesome, kuddos to the team for being so attentive. We'll definitely be visiting and enjoying again at PPQ Millbrae soon!
