I can't believe I haven't reviewed PPQ Millbrae before! Weve been enjoying their dishes for quit some time now and is a must have when were craving Dungeness Crab! We brought my mom here for her birthday dinner and the team did not disappoint! First off we we walked in, party of 6, without reservations. The dining room was bright, 3/4 filled with patrons. We were warmly greeted then promptly seated. Shortly after our server approached us, asked if we had questions, then took our order. Short time after our food started coming out which we all feasted on. We were all completely satisfied, bellys full from everything we ate. PPQ hosted our party and we are very happy that we booked it here. We had a private party upstairs. Food as we all know is already incredible. We had family style per table and they serve great portions. All of our guests loved the food. We had salad, imperial rolls, crab, lobster, chicken, garlic noodles, pork, sea bass, veggies and ice cream. Their menu per table for big parties is well thought out. Service: was excellent, from booking, to hosting and dining, everything went well. Their manager helped us a lot and accommodated our needs. Our servers were very friendly and helpful too. Came after a recommendation from my cousin as they have been to the one in SF, surely a great one! If you like crab and lobster, this is the spot for you! Friday night and had to wait! There was a decent amount of people but was seated right away. The menu is pretty clear cut but they also have pre-set menus which is what I opted for. Dinner for 2 set included 1 chicken salad, 1 crab dish, a garlic noodle, and ice cream afterwards. We added a peppercorn wings too which was amazing as well! All dishes exceeded expectations! I can't wait to try their other flavors of crab and other dishes. The service was fast and nice. A lady took our order and another served us our dishes. The lady was even nice to give us 3 ice cream scoops since the prefix only came with 2! The restaurant itself reminds me of a Chinese restaurant with hints of boiling crab decorations. I will say though it was a bit difficult to find parking where we had to find street parking since there a bunch of other stores on the lot. Good O PPQ. It is always a great meal here. Food and service are solid. One of our longtime cycling friends have not been here before so it gave us a chance to bring him. He loved it and is a very picky eater. Meal for four adults and two kids was $420. Service fee is automatically added. We ordered separate dishes as supposed to the set meals. We had crab asparagus soup, two garlic noodles, peppercorn crab, roasted crab, shrimp papaya salad, sea bass, tofu, eggplant and string beans. Everything was fine. I've been to their SF location numerous times and always ordered the fixed menu, it always seemed like a good deal. BUT boy has those prices climbed up! It was almost not worth it anymore. I made reservations through YELP, no issues there, easy peasy. When we arrived, we go seated right away near the window. We ordered the fixed meal and 1/2 dozen fresh oysters. :) Fresh oysters - fresh and very good! :) Chicken salad w/fish sauce dressing - good but nothing really special, I remembered it to be better in SF location but that was a long time ago. :) Egg rolls - I love their egg rolls, wish they gave us more. Piping hot and stuffed with yumminess inside :( Egg yolk crab - I know Crab season have not opened up yet and it shows in the crab. My first bite was a mushy mealy texture but luckily, it was only on that 1 bite. The egg yolk flavor was not as deeply flavored as I would like it to be... Came here at 5pm on a Saturday to celebrate my niece's 17th birthday. At this time, it was easy to find parking and we were seated immediately. There were 10 of us so we ordered the dinner for 10. Everything was delicious! The staff were friendly and the restaurant was clean, comfortable and didn't feel too crowded. We enjoyed a delicious meal with 3 crabs. Made reservations on Yelp for 5, on Christmas Day for 3:45PM. Wanted to eat before the rush and crowds came. Good decision. We were the first ones in and then the crowds started to stream in. 2 of my kids don't really eat crab, one said it's too much work, lol. We started with the fried calamari and it was just okay. Definitely from frozen. I've had better. I think maybe we should have had the fried spring rolls instead. We ordered the steak cubes for the non crab eaters and albeit it was very tender the taste was more on the sweet side. Maybe we should have opted for the peppercorn short ribs instead. PPQ never disappoints! We normally go to the location in SF, but we're closer to the airport and decided to come to this location. There is a lot so parking here is super easy! The restaurant is also large, open and airy! Service is always efficient and friendly. In this visit we ordered the $200 family meal and it was amazing! Crab is always perfect, and this comes with garlic noodles, fried spring rolls, green beans, barbecued pork and fish. Everything was so, so good! And everyone got to choose which ice cream cone they wanted for dessert. Visited during Peninsula restaurant week and the service was on point. The food was delicious. We ordered the crab dish that came with appetizers which included a chicken salad that was refreshing and tasty. Additionally, crab came with garlic noodles that didn't disappoint. Large dining room with over a dozens tables, including large service for 12 with oversized lazy Susan's. Heads up for larger groups: PPQ Millbrae imposes an 18% service charge on all dine-in parties, and a 20% charge for groups of 10 or more. According to their written notice, this fee is used by management to offset employee wages and benefits. Automatically charging 18%, no matter the party size, and bumping it up to 20% for larger groups, removes the guest's discretion entirely. Though we willingly tip 18-20% based on service, not a fan of this policy--It's excessive and unconventional. We got the set menu for 6, ordered a large seafood soup with fish maw to share, the beef steak cubes dish, and an extra garlic noodles. We had 6 adults and 4 kids and in my opinion, we didn't need to order the extra garlic noodles and beef steak cubes. The set menu and the extra soup was plenty to eat. We didn't finish and had to Togo our food. We also brought in a cake and they even help to arrange the cake for us. Parking here can be tricky but we got lucky to find a spot near the restaurant. Our other family member did have to park super far away from the restaurant. Service was very good. The imperial rolls were on a little salty and spicy taste (pepper spice) for me. The beef papaya salad was fine. The roasted crab somehow the flavor wasn't as absorbed to me. The peppercorn crab tasted fine. The five spice chicken was good. We really enjoyed the steam sea bass, braised string beans and garlic noodles. The large seafood soup with fish maw was tasty as well. They have a sign on the menu that there's a 20% fee for party of 10 or over which we saw. Overall, this is a great place to be to celebrate special events, family dinners, or when you have your crab cravings. Unfortunately, the rest of the food was really disappointing. We ordered two crabs (salted egg and peppercorn), garlic noodles, and string beans. The string beans came out undercooked. The garlic noodles were decent but nothing special. The crabs, which should be the star, were the worst part. The salted egg crab was soaked in oil, making the subtle flavor of salted egg completely lost. The peppercorn crab was small, badly overcooked, and the meat was dry and sticking to the shell. The shell was brittle and crumbled apart, making it feel like eating shredded pet food. Service was slow and lacked attention. Overall, it felt like a crab place with very mediocre crab. I love crab and this is my favorite crab spot. I'm Vietnamese and grew up eating cua rang muoi, aka salt and pepper crab. This place is way better than any crab I've had. Their version of salt and pepper crab is called peppercorn crab. Peppercorn crab was my usual go-to crab until I tried the chili crab. The chili crab tastes like a lightly battered crab that was tossed in chili oil, garlic, and Thai basil. The dish is aromatic and has a great kick to it. I usually order the combo for two since it's a better value. The combo meal for two includes imperial rolls, cabbage salad with chicken, garlic noodles, and crab made in whatever way you want. Parking is difficult to find. If you come during lunchtime on a weekday or weekend, and you'll have to circle around multiple times until you find a spot. So sometimes I'll come here on an off time around 4:00 pm just so I don't have to search for parking. This place takes reservations, but honestly you don't need it. It's raining and cold...I had a craving for some delicious crabs. I've tried several places in the bay area and wanted to try a different one. Then I remember watching Chef Martin Yan reviewing one call PPQ Dungeness Island in Millbrae. So I had to give it a try. We had a party of six and there was plenty of room. The big round table could of accommodated 12 easily. We all sat comfortably. The service was great, we were given plastic bibs and wet naps to avoid splattering. Our water cups were also kept filled at all times. Now the food! We ordered two crabs - a roasted black pepper and a house flavored. Both flavors were delicious. However, I personally liked the House flavored one more because the sauce was throughout the crab shell and meat. Whereas the roasted black pepper one, the flavor was just on the shell. Both crabs were decent sized. We also ordered the Beef Steak Cubes. They are probably the best steak cubes I've ever tasted. They are tender and very flavorful. I swore they were filet mignon but the description didn't specify the type of steak. The portion was on the small side. But still, this is a must try! We also ordered the Five spiced chicken. The chicken was very flavorful and tender. The crunchy skin got some extra points. In addition we ordered three appetizers. The garlic green beans, fresh shrimp rolls and fried tofu. The beans were fresh and snappy without being overcooked or drenched in sauce. The shrimp rolls were very fresh, the vermicelli was soft and the shrimp was flavorful without being overcooked. The fried tofu was fried to perfection, crunchy outside and tender inside without being too greasy. However, I think the cup of sauce could be slightly more. It was barely enough to spread amongst the 10 pieces of tofu. Garlic noodles are a staple requirement in any crab restaurant. The garlic noodles did not disappoint. The noodles were very fresh, loose and buttery with just the perfect amount of garlic flavor. Overall, we all had a great time at PPQ. The service was good and the food was even better! read more

I last visited POQ on Clement St a few years back and overall the meal was excellent. I took a group of 7 friends for dinner at the Millbrae location. Parking was very difficult. I got there 12 minutes early and were told to wait though the restaurant was half full. The main dining room was bright and airy and well decorated. 5 minutes past our reservation, we were taken upstairs to a second dining room. The stairs had really dirty carpets and the upstairs dining room had no ambience, just a room with a few tables. Service was sparse with one person taking orders. It was hard asking for water since no one was around and the service was not enthusiastic. The staff did not engage with us except to take the order, and did not check on us. I ordered the lobster and crab dinner set plus the egg yolk chicken wing appetizer. The pace of the food was slow and uneven, with long waits in between. The food was brought up from a rear set of stairs from a wait staff who just dropped off the food. The appetizer wings were drenched with butter and egg yolk and soggy. The imperial Rolls were fine, the papaya salad and butter noodles had small portions given the price point ($450 total, set menu). The five spice chicken breast was tasty but very thick and hard to chew. The garlic crab was shockingly small ( 2 pounds or so)) for a signature dish. It tasted drab and not memorable. The lobster was tasty and meaty, our favorite dish. The green beans were average. The meal ended with ice cream on cones. An automatic 18% service charge was imposed with room for an "additional tip". Given the lethargic and slow service, the mediocre food, and the average and small crab, the meal was a poor value and my guests did not finish the food. Thanh Long is superior for crab. read more

Hands down, one of the WORST dining experiences we've had. We've been supporting PPQ since they were on Clement...never coming back. They have no idea what they're doing when it's a packed restaurant (Mother's Day). We usually come for random birthdays and it's pretty empty. Never again. Reservation for 5:30pm for 15 (half kids). They accidentally sat another party at our tables (??) and they had to move them to another table. (Sat upstairs in the dingy room, split tables.) Left their water glasses and plates and server had no idea until we let them know those weren't our water glasses. Put our order in by 6pm. Since they split our table, we asked if they could split the dinner set and they confirmed it was fine. NOTHING WAS SPLIT. Appetizers and drinks (all sodas flat) all come within 15 minutes. 45 minutes pass and the crabs come. 30 minutes later, the sea bass comes. (We added an extra order that didn't come for another 30 minutes.) Everything else comes out in 10 minute increments - pork, chicken, green beans, garlic noodles. This is AN HOUR after we got our crabs. The crabs are long gone by now. WHAT TYPE OF DINING EXPERIENCE IS THIS?? No apologies from anyone. 18% gratuity was baked in. Owner smiled big and thanked us at the door downstairs. Do you have no idea what's going on? Or you just don't GAF on your cash cow day? (Pretty sure the servers were relatives because they had NO IDEA what they were doing.) They are falling and there is a huge opportunity for a new crab/garlic noodle chain to come in and take over the market! Outside of PPQ and Thanh Long...what is there?? Oh - cherry on top. Although the crab was fresh, it was somehow lacking in taste and it was probably deep fried for a couple of seconds too long because it tasted a bit "dry" or perhaps it was the style of cooking. It felt a little disappointing. Overall, it wasn't a satisfying meal. In comparison, maybe I would have preferred Sri Lankan crab which has a sweeter and smoother flesh. On another note, they put the tip into the bill without letting you know. It was fried so it got pretty dry and lacked flavors 5 spices chicken- I was too full didn't get to try but fam said it was cool the 5 spice flavor wasn't too crazy which is a good thing Steamed sea bass - this was good I don't think you can go wrong with sea bass. Isn't as good as the wedding dish tho Braised string bring - we opted out for baby bok choy. I didn't get to try Garlic noodles - I was honestly disappointed since I thought it would be on par with my BIL. It was dry and no flavors..
