She apologized and removed it from the bill. She also brought the wrong entrée for one of my friends but corrected it promptly. We always love our meals at San Marcos. Tonight was paint night here. We had just tacos and coconut shrimp. The each of the proteins in the tacos were cooked perfectly and flavorful with sauces that complemented them. The coconut shrimp were mouth watering good! Every now and then I have one of those where have I been moments? Well, today was one of those times. I was at a plaza, not far from where San Marcos Grill is located. We were hungry and decided we wanted Mexican food. We've been really tired of the place we've been visiting as we are regulars there. We've been really wanting to try something new and I remembered there was a place down the street from the plaza we were at. San Marcos Grill is not very hard to find. It's just off the main drag going through Carson City on Winnie Lane. We pulled in to the parking lot and I have to be honest. My first thought was wow I hope this place is good. Because I had my doubts being in a strip mall. But you never know unless you try. So we walked, and I was amazed, how awesome this place looked I'm talking very festive, very clean. Tables were well spaced out. The lady greeted us immediately and pointed us to a table where we could sit at. She was there taking our drink orders very quickly. As we sat and looked over the menu, I could not get over the size and beauty of the bar that they have in this establishment. Complete with a great selection of any kind of drink, you could possibly want also TVs that are spaced around the establishment so if you want to watch a sport event, there's not a bad seat anywhere in the restaurant. After looking over the menu, our server came to our table was a very nice young lady and took our orders. My wife chose the beef enchiladas, and a taquito, which comes with rice and beans As I always do with a new establishment, I chose the Carnitas plate. I am a Carnitas aficionado and I always try everyone's Carnitas to see if they are legit. As we're waiting for our food, I noticed an older gentleman who was just helping everybody, come to find out he is the owner. I do not know his name, but he's very friendly guy and very warm and welcoming. As I said, the establishment is very spacious and clean. The bathroom was even clean, so it was a real joy to be there, even though we were waiting on our food, which did not take very long. My wife ordered a margarita that she really liked and I just had a Modelo with a lime. The gentleman I just told you about who I think is the owner brought our food to us and it looked amazing. Needless to say, we dug right into our food and I could not get over how great these Carnitas tasted. Not everyone can make really good Carnitas, they're either dry or they're cooked too long to were they are too crispy. These are so tender and flavorful. I enjoyed every bite. My plate came with rice in a small bowl of beans, a garnish of avocado, sour cream and pico. It also came with very hot corn tortillas The tortillas, however we're spoiled and tasted really old. In fact, you can smell how old they were. I let our server know, but it was no big deal because I had tortilla chips still on the table. She offered to get me some new tortillas, but it was fine because I only use the tortilla to kind of put my food onto the fork. So the tortilla chips worked just fine. I kept trying to eat the Carnitas slowly because I was savoring it so much. I did not want to hurry and be done with the meal too fast. This was our first visit here, and I can tell you that we will be back and probably become regulars. The staff here is very wonderful welcoming and I cannot recommend this place high enough to anyone that wants a great place to eat really great Mexican food. Kudos to the staff.! read more

Service was great last night even with a full house! I ordered two a la cart shredded beef tacos with cilantro You can't beat the price of 3.99 per taco . It's loaded with shredded beef, salsa, lettuce, little cheese and lots of cilantro! Delicious My daughter ordered a mini Carna Asada burrito and a chicken tacos. She loved the wet burrito. Just visited this place for the first time and what a great find! We were promptly greeted at the door, seated and served chips with a salsa and a bean dip. The bean dip is so good. I could have just eaten that for the night and been happy. They have a huge menu with lots of options. I chose the lobster enchiladas and they were served with a tomatillo and garlic suiza sauce that was absolutely delicious. My friend had the Bistec con nopales (steak with cactus) and said it was perfectly seasoned. The beef and cactus were both tender and flavorful. I also tried their pineapple margarita. It came with lots of fresh pineapple slices and was very refreshing. I decided to finally try a couple tacos. The lengua was plentiful but dry. I found myself missing El Taconzo's tacos in Sparks, these cubes were not pan fried and only a couple white onion pieces. The food was very good and the server was very nice. The service was a little slow but the restaurant was pretty packed as it was prime dinner time. Our water was refilled without asking and when we asked for more beans for the chips they were provided. We had a very small serving of pico and it was never refilled. Additional chips were offered at the end of our meal. The restroom was clean but there was no soap in the dispenser. Joining our friends at San Marcos Grill for a late lunch was a treat indeed. I realize it is not a true reflection, but I often "judge" a Mexican restaurant based on its Chips & Salsa served. It sets the table for things to come. At San Marcos Grill, the chips were crisp, fresh and flavorful. The Salsa served was robust and rich with flavor. A nice treat was a small serving of refried beans were served with the chips. I love dipping my chips into the beans. We were off to a great start ! The restaurant is bigger than it looks from the outside, with traditional colors of Mexico and Mexican art and decorations. For my main course, I ordered the Lingua Tacos. A personal favorite, I know it may not be a favorite of others or maybe you have never tried them. My personal recommendation is give them a try. Lingua was tender, complimented by a nice green salsa, onions and cilantro. The corn tortillas were warm, soft and delicious. The Pinto Beans were also prepared to perfection. Warm and flavorful, a nice accompaniment. My Spanish Rice on the other hand, while flavorful was served from the crusty, hard bottom of the pan. An unfortunate outcome. Our party had a special burrito, served with a duo of Verde Colorado and Chile Colorado. Another had the San Marcos Tostada, and my wife had the Arroz con Pollo. All thoroughly enjoyed their meals. My brother had the Chilaquiles. While he wouldn't describe them as bad or poor, there were just unremarkable. My sister-in-law had the Enchiladas but served with Mole. Perhaps the dish was sitting too long under the heating lamps but the result was the Mole having a burnt taste and stale texture. Overall, many more good than bad. First basket of chips free, 4.99 for bottomless chips, salsa, and bean dip. The wait seems to be a bit long, To get seated about 10 min and to order 10 min for drinks at which time food order was placed. BTW, the cherry margarita is very good but a bit tart. Ordered a chicken enchilada a la carte, a Lobster enchiladas plate, carnita enchilada and cheese enchilada combo. Took about 30 min to get it. Chicken enchilada was very good and we took half home. Local owned family run business. Starting with the chef the son the parents and daughter's son and sons in law all work here. Table side guacamole made by the mom... we came around 1ish during the week and it was crowded plus there was a big party but between the 3 of them they served all the people. 3 in the kitchen working as a well oiled machine they pumped out that food nice and hot.... Stopped in today for a late lunch. I usually get a burrito but decided to mix it up a bit and try a shrimp tostada. They gave me some tortilla chips with salsa and refried beans on the side as an appetizer. The tortilla chips were made in house. I think the salsa and beans were too. It didn't take long for them to sit me down and they kept my cup full of ice water which was great. I finally got my food. The size of the tostadas were good. There were at least 3-4 shrimps on each tostada. Oh man, the flavor was great. Just enough spice in it. What was I thinking!? I could've been getting tostadas instead of burritos this whole time. This place was a little pricier than I'm used to but I splurge every once in a while. The only negative thing I can say about out my experience today was that it took them a while to get my check.
