This food is really good the service was good I recommend this if your having a bad day

Every now and then I have one of those where have I been moments? Well, today was one of those times. I was at a plaza, not far from where San Marcos Grill is located. We were hungry and decided we wanted Mexican food. We've been really tired of the place we've been visiting as we are regulars there. We've been really wanting to try something new and I remembered there was a place down the street from the plaza we were at. San Marcos Grill is not very hard to find. It's just off the main drag going through Carson City on Winnie Lane. We pulled in to the parking lot and I have to be honest. My first thought was wow I hope this place is good. Because I had my doubts being in a strip mall. But you never know unless you try. So we walked, and I was amazed, how awesome this place looked I'm talking very festive, very clean. Tables were well spaced out. The lady greeted us immediately and pointed us to a table where we could sit at. She was there taking our drink orders very quickly. As we sat and looked over the menu, I could not get over the size and beauty of the bar that they have in this establishment. Complete with a great selection of any kind of drink, you could possibly want also TVs that are spaced around the establishment so if you want to watch a sport event, there's not a bad seat anywhere in the restaurant. After looking over the menu, our server came to our table was a very nice young lady and took our orders. My wife chose the beef enchiladas, and a taquito, which comes with rice and beans As I always do with a new establishment, I chose the Carnitas plate. I am a Carnitas aficionado and I always try everyone's Carnitas to see if they are legit. As we're waiting for our food, I noticed an older gentleman who was just helping everybody, come to find out he is the owner. I do not know his name, but he's very friendly guy and very warm and welcoming. As I said, the establishment is very spacious and clean. The bathroom was even clean, so it was a real joy to be there, even though we were waiting on our food, which did not take very long. My wife ordered a margarita that she really liked and I just had a Modelo with a lime. The gentleman I just told you about who I think is the owner brought our food to us and it looked amazing. Needless to say, we dug right into our food and I could not get over how great these Carnitas tasted. Not everyone can make really good Carnitas, they're either dry or they're cooked too long to were they are too crispy. These are so tender and flavorful. I enjoyed every bite. My plate came with rice in a small bowl of beans, a garnish of avocado, sour cream and pico. It also came with very hot corn tortillas The tortillas, however we're spoiled and tasted really old. In fact, you can smell how old they were. I let our server know, but it was no big deal because I had tortilla chips still on the table. She offered to get me some new tortillas, but it was fine because I only use the tortilla to kind of put my food onto the fork. So the tortilla chips worked just fine. I kept trying to eat the Carnitas slowly because I was savoring it so much. I did not want to hurry and be done with the meal too fast. This was our first visit here, and I can tell you that we will be back and probably become regulars. The staff here is very wonderful welcoming and I cannot recommend this place high enough to anyone that wants a great place to eat really great Mexican food. Kudos to the staff.! read more

Quality/Quantity - Support local. Another good find. Chicken Tortilla Bowl - Interesting flavor, very different from most chicken tortilla soups we typically eat/drink. Not bad or good, just different; see picture. Brought half of it home and added pasta which made this soup even better. Asada Fajita - Overall good, fresh, and piping hot. So make sure you stir the entree before it burns. Well unless you enjoy eating that char. I also like the fact that we had the option to have 1/2 and 1/2 tortillas, both corn and flour. Thank you. Decent size menu, but we are light eaters and were not hungry when we got here. But it was getting late and I knew we needed to eat. Ambiance - Huge, I mean a HUGE place. It just kept going and going. My pictures do NOT do it justice. I think this is actually 4 units?!? Do you own this building? And of course it was packed yesterday; happy holidays. Slow, but consistent flow for lunch today. Decent size bar area; again, my pictures did not do it justice. Plenty of mall parking. Open 7 days a week from 11am to 9pm, happy hour from 4pm to 6pm. What a hidden gem. This Mexican restaurant is located in a shopping center off the main road in Carson City. It has a very relaxed, casual authentic vibe. Service was great last night even with a full house! I ordered two a la cart shredded beef tacos with cilantro You can't beat the price of 3.99 per taco . It's loaded with shredded beef, salsa, lettuce, little cheese and lots of cilantro! Delicious My daughter ordered a mini Carna Asada burrito and a chicken tacos. She loved the wet burrito. The flavor was spot on. They served refried beans with chips complementary and on the table. The refried beans are delicious. Ok... hold on. Let me catch my breath! San Marcos grill is the BEST in Carson. I like spicy and the carrot habanero salsa caught me off guard in the best way. Carrots? Habanero? How spicy and creative! Kudos to the chef! My first time here I tried the lengua taco plate and by recommendation the salmon tacos! You guys. You need to be here. I feel so bad that I'm eating here after ordering and asking them to put in to go boxes but they are giving us our time and letting us enjoy our experience! Just visited this place for the first time and what a great find! We were promptly greeted at the door, seated and served chips with a salsa and a bean dip. The bean dip is so good. I could have just eaten that for the night and been happy. They have a huge menu with lots of options. I chose the lobster enchiladas and they were served with a tomatillo and garlic suiza sauce that was absolutely delicious. My friend had the Bistec con nopales (steak with cactus) and said it was perfectly seasoned. The beef and cactus were both tender and flavorful. I also tried their pineapple margarita. It came with lots of fresh pineapple slices and was very refreshing. I decided to finally try a couple tacos. The lengua was plentiful but dry. I found myself missing El Taconzo's tacos in Sparks, these cubes were not pan fried and only a couple white onion pieces. Lacking. Nice to have the Orange Roughy taco. I can't eat cabbage so they were glad to substitute with lettuce. This is a good meal for me. Plenty right there. Like a fish salad. The food was very good and the server was very nice. The service was a little slow but the restaurant was pretty packed as it was prime dinner time. Our water was refilled without asking and when we asked for more beans for the chips they were provided. We had a very small serving of pico and it was never refilled. Additional chips were offered at the end of our meal. The restroom was clean but there was no soap in the dispenser. Even after asking for the soap to be refilled it wasn't completed prior to us wanting to enjoy our meal. Overall we had a nice meal. I would come back again! read more

Joining our friends at San Marcos Grill for a late lunch was a treat indeed. I realize it is not a true reflection, but I often "judge" a Mexican restaurant based on its Chips & Salsa served. It sets the table for things to come. At San Marcos Grill, the chips were crisp, fresh and flavorful. The Salsa served was robust and rich with flavor. A nice treat was a small serving of refried beans were served with the chips. I love dipping my chips into the beans. We were off to a great start ! The restaurant is bigger than it looks from the outside, with traditional colors of Mexico and Mexican art and decorations. For my main course, I ordered the Lingua Tacos. A personal favorite, I know it may not be a favorite of others or maybe you have never tried them. My personal recommendation is give them a try. Lingua was tender, complimented by a nice green salsa, onions and cilantro. The corn tortillas were warm, soft and delicious. The Pinto Beans were also prepared to perfection. Warm and flavorful, a nice accompaniment. My Spanish Rice on the other hand, while flavorful was served from the crusty, hard bottom of the pan. An unfortunate outcome. Our party had a special burrito, served with a duo of Verde Colorado and Chile Colorado. Another had the San Marcos Tostada, and my wife had the Arroz con Pollo. All thoroughly enjoyed their meals. My brother had the Chilaquiles. While he wouldn't describe them as bad or poor, there were just unremarkable. My sister-in-law had the Enchiladas but served with Mole. Perhaps the dish was sitting too long under the heating lamps but the result was the Mole having a burnt taste and stale texture. Overall, many more good than bad. The place was busy on a Wednesday. Small diner ambiance in a bigger place. It was noisy with approx 75 people there to dine. First basket of chips free, 4.99 for bottomless chips, salsa, and bean dip. The wait seems to be a bit long, To get seated about 10 min and to order 10 min for drinks at which time food order was placed. BTW, the cherry margarita is very good but a bit tart. Ordered a chicken enchilada a la carte, a Lobster enchiladas plate, carnita enchilada and cheese enchilada combo. Took about 30 min to get it. Chicken enchilada was very good and we took half home. The lobster enchilada with blackened veggies and chorizo black beans was EXCELLENT! Took home 1/2 of the combo as well. Overall a most excellent dinner. Local owned family run business. Starting with the chef the son the parents and daughter's son and sons in law all work here. Table side guacamole made by the mom... we came around 1ish during the week and it was crowded plus there was a big party but between the 3 of them they served all the people. 3 in the kitchen working as a well oiled machine they pumped out that food nice and hot.... Drinks seemed to be the happening thing as the dad made them... the system they used seemed to work for them the girls taking the ordered and everyone pitching it to bring the food to your table... chip and salsa and beans fresh to your table and the salsa was fresh and tasty.. sizzling combo fajitas we shared it was big enough just the right amount of seasoning items tender chicken and beef.. the beans taste homemade and were really good. We had a side of guacamole and it was fresh and really good.. nothing here is over seasoned or salted.. Stopped in today for a late lunch. I usually get a burrito but decided to mix it up a bit and try a shrimp tostada. They gave me some tortilla chips with salsa and refried beans on the side as an appetizer. The tortilla chips were made in house. I think the salsa and beans were too. It didn't take long for them to sit me down and they kept my cup full of ice water which was great. I finally got my food. The size of the tostadas were good. There were at least 3-4 shrimps on each tostada. Oh man, the flavor was great. Just enough spice in it. What was I thinking!? I could've been getting tostadas instead of burritos this whole time. This place was a little pricier than I'm used to but I splurge every once in a while. The only negative thing I can say about out my experience today was that it took them a while to get my check. 1st time there was good. It was a Saturday evening with party of 6. It was very busy. I got Chili Colorado which was very good, but a bit hotter than I was expecting. Good portion size. Everyone enjoyed their meals. 2nd time there was disappointing. I got carnitas taquitos. They were hard and the cheese on top was hard so they stuck together. The meat was dry and so was the rice. It was almost as though it had been sitting out for a while. Everyone else was happy with their meals. It wasn't too busy, Wednesday evening around 5:45. The staff is very friendly as soon as you enter the door. The food was fantastic, portions were huge, and the margaritas were great (we ordered skinny because we don't like them too sweet). This literally is the best place for Mexican food in Carson City. One of 2 fish tacos was not fully cooked but edible and both were cold. The rice was dried out and crunchy from being under the warming lights too long. Nothing tasted bad but also not special. One star was for the atmosphere and the other for the refried beans that came with the chips and salsa. Our waitress was very intentive and made sure our food was ordered correctly. The restaurant was super busy but she still made sure to check-in with us. When the food arrived (which didn't take long ~less than 10 minutes) it looked amazing. You definitely get your moneys worth here at San Marcos! Everything was made perfectly and we order a range of different foods from carne sada tacos, birria tacos, nachos, taquitos, and quesadilla. The pricing is very reasonable. today I took my son and daughter-in-law to San Marcos Grill for lunch. my family recently moved to Carson City from Chico, California, and seem to be very disappointed in the nachos. They were eating around town. I have been to San Marcos many times and never had a bad meal we arrived and our waitress was at the table in a minute, bringing us beverages, a basket of delicious chips, and two types of dip one the typical salsa, the other, a refried bean dip which was delicious. We ordered the steak nacho, which was huge and loaded with everything and anything you could think of . When we asked for a little extra sour cream, she brought over a huge amount which was surprising because usually only ask for something like that, they bring you a small little container. I ordered the chicken tortilla soup, which was great, my son got the shrimp fajitas. My daughter-in-law got the taco plate special and everything was amazing. The service was incredible, we met the mom one of the owners named Elena and she has her husband and daughter there with her . It felt like being in someone's home lots of smiles lots of conversation no rushing around. We truly enjoyed being there of course no good meal is complete without dessert. My daughter-in-law and I got the churros Con chocolate and my son got the flan with two generous amounts of whipped cream on each side, everything was delicious. The last Friday of every month they do a tequila testing event and they cater. what a wonderful experience and my kids finally found nachos that they could say were incredible. I would highly recommend them for lunch or dinner, we used to go there for Christmas Eve, and after the restaurant closed, they hosted a party for all of their employees. It's obvious there are a zillion Mexican restaurants in this town but this one has been here for years and never disappoints. I highly recommend it. You will not be disappointed. read more

My neighbour recently took me here for dinner and she told me how great this place is. I opted for the steak and chicken fajita platter! You can select your meat and even have a surf n turf (with shrimp) if you'd like! The food came out and boy was the platter sizzling! The smell of the meat cooking was so good and filled the table with an amazing aroma! The side dishes came out which included beans, rice, pico and guacamole/sour cream. I opted for corn tortillas. The food tasted so good, full of flavour and the side dishes also tasted fresh and delicious! I decided I need one do the many special margaritas they serve, which helped making dinner a very fun and yummy experience. Service is great, very attentive staff greet you immediately and seat you down. I did go on a Friday evening which was kind of busy, but the wait for a table was minimal. During our entire dinner service, we were checked on often and made sure we were taken care of. The price is very reasonable and I felt the amount of food was more than enough! My husband and I are visiting the Sparks/Reno and Carson City area. We decided to grab a Quick couple of tacos at this nice restaurant and were pleasantly surprised ! Our Waitress, Myra, was So Sweet and Courteous, helping us with our every wish. My husband always likes Margaritas while I opted for an Ice tea and we were both very pleased.
