This was the best food I had during my weekend stay in Carson City, NV. My grandma took me and my cousin out to eat here and she said her and her friends frequent this place often, and I can see why. The environment in the restaurant is very relaxing and the staff is welcoming. The complimentary chips and salsa were great, and the food we ordered was even better. I got the chile relleno with corn tortillas my grandma got the wet burrito and my cousin got the carne asada nachos. All our plates were cleaned, except grandma because she's a small eater. Absolutely horrible service during lunchtime. They were not overly busy. The dish was delivered to me and that's about it. I ordered iced tea, but it came with sugar, and I was never told that they had a no sugar version. After I finally flagged another waiter down, I asked for one with no sugar and it was brought to me. Additionally, the Carnitas dish that I had came cubed and really was not flavorful. I don't think I ever saw my waitress again until I had to go up to the cash register and pay. Older gringos come in too, with their non-gringo wives who have seen it all The service is polite and lovely amidst the shaded windows. Affordable and well prepared dishes. There's a big glass refrigerator hosting a surprising mix of frosty Mexican beers - to go with the chips and carne asada and beans and rice and grilled green onions. It's a bargain. It's been a year since our last visit to La Salsa Grill, as we're not in Carson City much to dine out. We met our family friend here (it's his favorite local restaurant) for a spontaneous outing. The place is very friendly and Daphne was helpful and kind. I had the shrimp tostada (5/5) which was light, fresh tasting and delicious. Hubby ordered the fish and shrimp soup (5+/5) and our friend ordered the albondigas soup (5/5 from the sample he had me try), it's also his favorite! Hubby shared his soup with me too and it was really delicious. I will order that dish next time! We all loved our food. Flavors are great! Loved all the aloe plants and the festive decor as it makes it a very pleasant place to have a meal with friends. We'll be back! read more

For a place named after salsa, they sure have a lack of choices when it comes to salsa. The one salsa that comes with the chips is good, but nothing to write home about. I ordered a carne asada torta which had meat, lettuce, tomato, beans, and avocado slices in it. No salsa. No onions. No jalapeños. Nothing. Just a plain old meat sandwich. Not exaggerating when I say I took two bites and decided it wasn't worth the calories. This place would be FAR better if they offered a salsa bar so you can spruce up your food. More like rice burritos really. What little al pastor was in one burrito was burned with lots of gristle. The other was carne asada and it was just ho-hum. Neither burrito had much flavor. My family and I stopped at La Salsa Grill before heading back home to the Bay Area. Unfortunately we had problems from start and finish. We sat down, received our drinks and straws. On one of the straws, the paper was missing on one of the ends. Being careful and not knowing where the straw has been or touched we asked for another straw. The waitress said "You have one right here!" She then picked up the same straw and completely took the paper off and set the straw on the bare table and walked away. I gave my straw to my sister and took the chance drinking from the cup. The waitress came back and took our order. It seemed like a process on taking our order. We aren't the world's pickiest eaters but there is stuff we do/don't want in/on our food. After giving our order nice and slow to make sure there is no mistakes the waitress left. After 10 minutes or so we received our food. Only to find out 3/5 were made correctly. Which is completely frustrating. I order a Torta with only 2 ingredients: Meat & Lettuce that's it! To my surprise I got my 2 ingredients followed with tons of refined beans( I HATE BEANS). So I took one for the team and just ate my food so we can get out of there as soon as possible. My dad's food was messed as well. A gentleman came to see how we were doing after being finished with our food. We informed him on the food situation and he said "Ok". That's all. We went to go pay the bill thinking there would be some type of adjustment due to the food being messed up. After receiving the bill there wasn't a single adjustment. We were blown away. No sorry, no adjustment, just took our money and said "Thank You". I'm not the biggest of giving low rating reviews, I was very hesitant on writing a review but I feel people need to be aware of what can happen. The food was tasty and fresh, and they had Menudo on a Thursday! We were greeted shortly after entering and chose a table. The dining area was colorful and inviting, and tables comfortably spaced. Water and menus were prompt and our server was helpful when asked about menu items. They had a couple of signs with the daily specials, like Menudo, but the menu said it was only available on the weekend. Sad face :( There were many other great items to consider BUT, after seeing four or five giant bowls of some type of soup/accompaniments head to our neighboring table, I had to ask what they were having. As soon as he said, "Menudo", my face lit up! What followed was one of the far better versions I have had across three states. No hominy, which I DO like, but honestly it didn't matter. It was fantastic! Hubby had fish tacos and they were great, and dad went with red and green enchiladas. The green sauce was mild for his liking but still very good, and the rice and beans were on point. Almost forgot, the margaritas were great too, not too sweet, and the blended one was piled up like an adult sno-cone! Heck yeah! Staff was extremely friendly, but didn't really make much of an effort to check up on me. Dining room was clean and bright. All in all a very good experience. When I moved to Nevada from the east coast, I knew that I'd likely be trading good Italian food for good Mexican food. What I didn't know was how good the Mexican food is here. Dare I say the improvement in the quality of Mexican food is far, far greater than I'm losing in lack of access to plentiful Italian food? October 4 was National Taco Day, so I figured it was natural to grab some tacos for dinner on my way home from work. La Salsa is conveniently located near Costco, making the decision easy. When I walked in, I was immediately seated. Shortly after, my order was placed and I was provided chips and salsa to eat while waiting. Before I knew it, a plate of tacos was in front of me. Dinner consisted of an asada (steak) taco, a carnitas (pork) taco, and an al pastor (pork) taco. I'll admit, as someone not super versed in Mexican cuisine, I didn't know which pork was which. Luckily, that wasn't a problem. All three tacos and the salsa provided for each were amazing, easily among the best tacos I have ever had. The tortillas, which tasted fresh, were hard to close with how overflowing they were and use of the fork to eat what the tortillas couldn't fit was mandatory. Definitely far, far better than one of those chain Mexican-style fast food places and not much pricier. I still have a lot of small Mexican joints to try now that I live in the land of Mexican food. But holy cow, I regret not trying any of them sooner and I know that I have at least one place to visit if I want amazing tacos. read more

We've been here for everything from burgers to Chinese to poke and never paid attention to the authentic Mexican restaurant, literally next door. It's a cozy, basic, little eatery with a couple big screens and a dozen tables. Nothing fancy or pretentious, just a relaxing, quiet atmosphere. The service is a bit slow and we struggled to understand our server. Other than that, he was very polite and did help us out with the menu. My husband ordered the super wet burrito with carne asada, I got the al Pastor regular burrito, and our son a carne asada taco, plain. Husband like his burrito, but mentioned that the wet sauce is a salsa and not the typical enchilada sauce, which is what he was expecting and wanted. He still enjoyed his burrito and could barely finish it. My burrito was delicious, no complaints. The al pastor and carne asada were both sliced thinly and crispy. Gayle and I rarely dine out for Mexican food, but are eat out at one when a visiting family member suggests it. That was yesterday with Gayle's Son Andrew (and Spouse) and their favorite place in town - La Salsa Grill. The 4 of us walked in for a late Lunch yesterday and had a great time over our selected dishes. One lesson from this meal is that I learned the difference here between hot and spicy. Andrew had his favorite (Camarones a la Diabla or hot shrimp with red sauce), while I picked Pollo a la Diabla (or Spicy Chicken). Andrew wolfed his dish down while I enjoyed mine, but turning a nice shade of red, even as I chose "medium" spice. It was very tasty, but in hindsight I'll skip the refried beans (they don't offer black beans), of which I think the lard in them left me with an uncomfortably full stomach the rest of the day. Meanwhile, our spouses played it relatively safe with a very large wet burrito (with easily requested vegetarian options) and fish tacos. Gayle enjoyed hers, but wished the fish were grilled, not fried. I really like the selection on La Salsa's menu that go way beyond the burrito/taco joint fare and look forward to a better curated trip through their offerings. Stopped here for lunch. I had the Beef Chimichanga, and my wife had a Chili Relleno. Solid burrito with great seasoned beef and plenty of cheese. My wife enjoyed the Chili Relleno. So there we were, hungry, on our way back to work and needing a lunch. Our group size was six, it was 1:30, and it's very difficult for me to park so close to an In-N-Out and not go there, but others had their hearts set on Mexica food, and not just any Mexican food, but this Mexican food. I was very pleasantly surprised. I happened to be people with very refined pallets, and, wait for it, this might be the important part, unafraid of spice. One member of our party ordered a spicy shrimp dish that had him in a celebratory mood for the duration of our stay. Others ordered tacos, a variety of tacos, and they looked fantastic. Now, my wife was not with us, and so I can only go by the look and the smell of these tacos, and both were very satisfying. Another member of our party ordered a wet burrito made out of the beef they were using in the tacos, and I piggy backed on that idea. He included sour cream and cheese, and I opted out of the 'wet' and the sour cream, but my burrito was truly a treat. We asked for a special salsa, and we were provided with a bowl that needed to be refilled three times, it was so good. Chips were plentiful, and this proved to be a great lunch stop. So, as you arrive, you've got a tough call. You know how great In-N-Out is and you're right next to some great Mexican food.
