Kids' menu chicken tenders and fries
Lola M.

While visiting from Las Vegas, we decided to sample Maria's Mexican Restaurant and I am so very glad we did!! The restaurant is a "mom and pop" place in a strip mall...but the food is IMPECCABLE. The gracious hostess seated us and we were addressed and our orders taken within minutes. The menu selections are plentiful and EVERYTHING is homemade: tortillas, salsa, sauces---every bite I tasted was better than the last. I felt welcomed and comfortable and they even let my octogenarian mother order the kids' menu chicken tenders.... The restaurant has a festive ambiance and it was very clean and tidy. I highly recommend this establishment if you're looking for delicious, filling food.

We came here about 4:30pm on a Saturday afternoon. It was not very busy and they have about 15 tables inside. We were greeted by two young ladies who brought us menus, waters and chips and salsa. We each looked through the menu and my wife decided to order the chicken, steak and shrimp fajitas. I ordered the burrito. We both really enjoyed the salsa and warm chips while our orders were being prepared. Our orders arrived and looked yummy! My wife really enjoyed the fajitas and my burrito was just okay. Overall it was a good experience.

We timed our meals wrong today and needed a quick go to for late lunch in north Carson. I remembered my friend Mike recently wrote a nice Yelp review for Las Maria's. So off we went! I am lousy with introductions and socializing in general. I blame it on the fact that I was a detective back east for years, which can be a very anti-social existence. Today, I believe we met Maria, a very head strong, straight forward woman. Turns out she's also a very friendly host. We ate for 15-20 minutes and chatted for 45. Of the many things I learned, Maria can sing and dj, plus, they have karaoke every Friday. All the food here is authentic, hand prepared. Safe to say, we made each other's day. Being not terribly creative, my wife and I ordered #7's. That's two enchiladas (with chicken), beans and rice. The food was terrific. The iced tea even better. The conversation, the best. Thanks Mike and Yelp. The more places we learn about and familiarize ourselves with, the better. We now have a definite go to diner in this area and a new friend, to boot! 10/21

Chimichanga

Was in the town with the family when we came across Maria's Mexican Restaurant since it was close and open. Thank god we came because we were very hungry and the food was authentic and delicious!! Also loved the vibe of the place and the Day of the Dead Sugar Skull decorations they had hanging up. I went ahead and ordered the Carnitas Chimichanga with a Cazuela and a Molcajete. Beyond my tastebud expectations. The Cazuela was made to perfection with the right amount of mixture with alcohol and my chimichanga had me doing the happy dance in my chair from how good it was. Definitely a hidden gem of a restaurant here in Carson City. One bad thing I would say is the service did take quite a while but other than that. Very, very good! Thank you!

I had some other business in this strip mall shopping center at Winnie and Carson street and it was a little early for lunch, but I thought I'd try this little hole in the wall Mexican restaurant. It's so "hole in the wall" that having lived here in Carson for years, I've never really noticed it, and it's been here for a long time. Entering I could tell this place had an authentic feel, not like some chain place or Chipotle. Empty when I arrived before normal lunch hours, but I was seated promptly and brought comp chips and salsa. I saw they have lunch specials and the price seemed right for these days with most items priced at $9.99. I decided on the Chimichanga which I haven't had in years. Mostly these days I've been having hand held burritos, so this was a change up. The rest of the menu was quite diverse with many items not offered at most Mexican restaurants. I'll have to come back and try other stuff on the menu later. The Chimichanga arrives, cut in two garnished with lettuce. The flour tortilla was deep fried crispy and the al pastor pork filling with rice and beans was quite tasty and had a very Mexican flavor, as opposed to some more Americanized places I've been. The al pastor was on the spicy side, but good. It's a pretty huge portion, so I took home half, but if you're a big eater, you might finish it all. One thing to know, is a 15% service charge (tip) is included in the bill. If you want to leave more, you can , just be aware 15% is already included. I leave more usually. I'll come back here with friends for sure!

Bright cute place .. picking up for work lunch .. I'm excited !! First time here

Situated on a property that dates back over 100 years and a perreniel favorite amongst the locals,…read moreGlen Eagle's is indeed a historic part of the Carson City's culinary scene. On this occasion, we were celebrating the birthday of a close friend. Our party of 10 had plenty of room in one of the back rooms with gorgeous views out the windows. We started the evening with a healthy round of appetizers, including Calamari, Roast Duck and a plate of Mussels. While I didn't partake in the Mussels, I will say the Calamari was good but the Roast Duck was truly amazing. Such great flavor, cooked to a tender doneness and topped with a sweet sauce. The bread roll that preceded the appetizers was something special. Warm and wrapped in paper, it was like opening a Christmas present. The bread was soft, warm and delicious. Seriously good. I ordered a Prime Rib, one of the evenings specials. It was a generous portion, served with potatoes and veggies. The Prime Rib was cooked perfectly (Medium Rare ofcourse) with the right amount of marbleing and seasoning. This was perhaps one of the best, most flavorful Prime Ribs I have had in recent memory. My wife ordered the Macadamia Crusted Sea Bass. The fish was breaded and topped with the delicious Macadamia nuts. The fish was light and flaky with a wonderful outer snap. A perfect blend of textures and flavors. I would definitely order this again. My friends mother ordered the Lobster and Filet, Glen Eagle's version of Surf and Turf. I don't know if she realized just how big a 1 1/2 pound (24oz) Lobster really was. This thing was HUGE. Like some giant sea creature. The Filet while a generouse portion, looked puny by comparison. She said the Lobster was a amazing but in full transparency, most of it when home. :-) We had a big party and the restaurant was quite full by the time we left. This did not deter our server nor the bus staff. The staff was attentive, ensuring our waters and drinks were always full. With the orders of appetizers, it felt like there was a steady stream of food. Never felt like we ever waited. I know understand why Glen Eagle's is a favorite amoungst the locals, atleast those in the know. If you get a chance to visit Carson City, be sure to make time to dine at Glen Eagle's.

Every room has its own charm, creating a warm, inviting atmosphere that makes the dining experience feel special. The staff were incredible friendly, welcoming, and attentive from the moment we arrived. The menu is impressive, but don't overlook the extensive list of specials. Portions are extremely generous. Everyone at our table thoroughly enjoyed their meal. The only reason for four stars instead of five was that the shrimp served with the halibut was overcooked, and the soup arrived only slightly warm rather than piping hot. The drinks were well made, there's plenty of convenient parking out front, and it's easy to see why Glen Eagles has remained a Carson City favorite for so many years. It's a local institution that's absolutely worth a visit.

Ambiance: Relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere with Mexican-inspired décor and cultural touches throughout the restaurant. There was a steady flow of guests, giving the place a lively but comfortable feel. Restrooms: Clean and decent, although a bit outdated. Service: Friendly but somewhat disorganized, possibly because we had a large group. The waitress initially told me the bartender was busy, but later realized she had never entered my drink order. She apologized and removed it from the bill. She also brought the wrong entrée for one of my friends but corrected it promptly. On a positive note, she graciously accommodated another friend's custom drink request even though it wasn't on the menu. Chips & Salsa: The first basket is complimentary. We were told additional baskets normally have a charge, but during our visit we were offered unlimited refills. Food: Fresh, authentic, and generously portioned. Recommended dishes: Salmon Atlántico, Fish Tacos, Artichoke Dip, Enchiladas, and Bistec.

I almost canceled, but we went anyway. Those reviews were nothing like what we experienced. The only thing I can imagine with those negative reviews must be just a Smear campaign from a former disgruntled employee. Who knows? For us, the evening was perfect. Great GREAT staff, and the food was everything you could hope for in a prime Stakehouse. I ordered the 16 oz. Prime rib, and she ordered the small Filet mignon. We chose the Albondigas Soup and baked potatoes. Everything was cooked perfectly. The meal came with a selection of two breads in the basket they brought out when we sat down. Even the vegetables were cooked tender crisp. We tasted each other's dinners and both were great. I'd recommend this restaurant to any who want a real steak dinner. Nice Job everyone!

Today's soup special with your meal was potatoes and ham. OMG delicious. I could have eaten this for my meal. Hubby subbed a wedge salad for his mixed greens salad. No mention from the waiter of it going to be full price either, vs a subbed item!! Hubby ordered the 6oz filet medium (cooked perfect) with a loaded baked potato. that was good. Green beans and 2 pieces of carrot for the veg. Not really upscale veggies and the green beans were very tough. I ordered the Chilean sea bass. I wanted to get the creamed spinach, but he told me it would be full price. Ok no biggie so I opted for the house veggies that come with it. Now for my potato option, I wanted the mascarpone mashed potatoes, no mention of the fact it would be full price!! Don't understand why as he mentioned it about the creamed spinach. Same as he did not mention the wedge would be full price. My meal was great except for the fact, there was about 1/2 the sauce as it had last year. So the fish was dry once the sauce was gone. Over 1/2 of the fish was without, but this cup of mascarpone mash was not worth the 8.00 they charged for it. Now here is the other problem. A really nice couple sat across from our table. I am guessing our waiter knew them for great tips etc as they were very very friendly. He boxed their meals for them. Not us, a bus helper by the name of Azul, super super sweet and helpful since our waiter was mostly absent. He stopped and talked to them often. So as this is happening, we are left waiter-less. We had to call him several times to get things we needed with our meal and a forgot to order, order of mushrooms. He came by 1 time after our food was delivered to bring us our Anniversary desert, (a good 15 to 20 minutes) after our to go bags sat on the table for a good 10 minutes. He dropped it and took off. Now the couple by us he definitely knew.. They came in after us and left before us by a good 10 minutes each way!. I hate this as we have been coming here for a good 4-5 years now. 1 or 2 times a year. Fixed incomes here. After we finally received our check, we were charged full price for both the wedge salad and the mascarpone potatoes. Well here went our great night. Hubby called for the manager, and he removed those charges as we were not made aware of them 1st off. Manager was also told, wait staff should inform of any full charge. Now this little electric pay crap was handed to us to pay the bill. Ummm I do not work here, nor should I with what we are being charged. Not sure if a tip was left or not as I was totally confused on it, and once again, waiter was not there to help us. Pretty sure, we will not be back!!! Such a shame too In the Carson City area, this was our go to place for a nice meal. THEY ALSO TOOK AWAY THE TRUFFLES

So, my local friend wanted to take me to this Thai restaurant right down on the main street in downtown, if Carson has an actual downtown that is. We got parking right in front of the place on the main street. Inside is nice and elegant in a Thai kinda way. Nicer than a casual mom and pop Thai joint. We get seated at a nice table near the front. My friend already knows the menu, so I go with hos suggestion for the Lunch special Duck with sauce over rice. It's $22 bucks, so it better be good! He has the Thai battered salmon for around $19. Soup is included and it's just a veggie broth, though tasty. Then our lunch specials come out. Oh wow, that duck look really good. It's totally deboned, so no messing with bones at all. The sauce was super tasty. My friend said he thinks its some sort of duck juice reduction with other added stuff. Whatever, this was one of the most tasty duck dishes I've ever had. His salmon was unique, I never saw a dish like that made with salmon. The coating was very unique and crispy and the salmon not over cooked. Overall, I really liked this place. I think my crew is having lunch at one of the local casinos, I'd rather be here!
