GROSS! My family and I stayed at the Inn's cottage. When we arrived for our reservation the cottage…read morewas hot & stinky. Windows were closed up and no air conditioning running on a hot summer's day. There is 1 small window air conditioner for the entire place. Besides the heat, the first thing you notice is the gross, mildewy smell when you walk in the front door. Smells like Grandma's attic. Plus, black mold all around the bathtub. The Master Bedroom bed felt like a concrete slab. And what they don't show you on the website is that 3 out of 4 beds are actually in an attached garage & literally placed next to the Inn's storage area of vacuum cleaners, towels etc. Speaking of supplies, they don't even supply toilet paper. At least they were kind enough to supply a fly swatter, so you could swat at all the flying insects landing on you while you're trying to sleep in a garage. Then the cleaning lady busts in the cottage the next morning to do loads of laundry during your stay. We were scheduled to stay 2 nights but we couldn't handle 1 more night and chose to stay at another hotel. If you make the mistake of staying at this place, BYOTP (bring your own toilet paper) and be prepared for a rough night ahead. Before writing this review I brought my concerns to the hotel owner. She was rudely dismissive and refused to refund us for the extra night.

The air was so clean and the room had great air circulation and a nice ceiling fan. So comfy for sleeping. The private porch for the room we had (the Wizard's Room) reminded me of a beach room in Jamaica--maybe better because there were more flowers and hummingbirds!

I love nature but I don't like roughing it ;) I loved the chalet it was the perfect place to be at one with nature and have all the comforts of home!!! It's very secluded which I loved you feel like you are a million miles away from the crazy city but yet you are just a few minutes away from the grocery store and town for anything you might need. We also found an amazing place between Sara's house and the cottage where we got fresh brown eggs and homemade jelly yum we will definitely go back there next time. The chalet is overlooking a beautiful lake and is surrounded by the most majestic view. It also has a nice place for a camp fire and also a BBQ grill so you can cook there plus a fully stocked kitchen with stove, microwave, plates, glasses, utensils, etc. and a dishwasher so no washing stuff by hand. It was nice to be able to not have to go out to eat we had everything we could have needed and more!! My parents stopped by to visit and my mom fell in love with the beautiful decorations throughout the chalet it had that personal touch to everything. They could not believe how amazing it was there we all agreed it wasn't just a cabin it was a home and a beautiful one! We have tried a bunch of other places nearby but they were so dirty and musty and that's being polite!! You won't find that at the Detweiler Chalets it's more like staying at a friends house or cabin it's beyond words!!! My husband and I can't wait to go back we were so sad to leave it really is a piece of heaven! I'm kinda high maintenance as my hubby would say I'm a five star hotel and room service kind of girl but I was so relaxed and content that I didn't have a care in the world while we were there!! Thank you again for everything!! Hope to see you again real soon!!! One more thing for those of you campers who still like to occasionally have there TV & Wifi like I do, you will be happy to know there is a huge flat screen Tv with dish network and wireless internet so if it's raining outside you can curl up inside and watch a movie by the fireplace ;)

Wonderful B&B! My fiance and I just got home from a stay at the Cottage Inn of Mackinac Island,…read moreand I can't think of a better place to stay. They do book up quickly, so the room we had originally wanted wasn't available, but the Mackinac Suite up on the 3rd floor was perfect. It was a little more expensive than we had planned per night, but luckily we were able to get our third night free due to a "Buy 2, get one night free" special... so the overall cost was the same or cheaper than we paid at the Chippewa the year before. Walking into the Cottage Inn, it's a pretty little place, and conveniently located three buildings down from the corner of Market & Fort. We could hear the cannons, rifles, and bugles from the Fort during the day, which was nice and relaxing... even the cannons were relaxing at that distance! It was a nice touch to feel like you were "back" in that era a little bit. The room we stayed in, The Mackinac Suite, was awesome. Walking into the suite, the first room has a queen-sized, an end table, a mini-fridge, a ceiling fan, and a large closet. To the left was the "master" bedroom... which also had a queen-sized bed. It also had a dresser, a flat screen tv with built in dvd player, a couple of end tables with lamps, a ceiling fan at, a large window with a great view of the street, and a bathroom with a stand up shower. Going back out to the main room, the other doorway leads to the turret sitting room. The sitting room had a great view of the fort, along with three comfy chairs, a table, and a flat screen tv with a built in tv player. There was also a ceiling fan. There are ceiling fans in every room there, I think! We spent evenings in the sitting room, watching dvds (thoughtfully provided by the B&B - they have a selection downstairs that you can borrow) and relaxing. I have to admit that we never made it to breakfast, so I can't comment on that... but I heard that it was good! Also, at 3pm they bring out treats from a local fudge shop, so there is peanut brittle, caramel corn, and fudge to snack on. They also have coffee, tea, and water on hand throughout the day. Rich & Marge, the owners, were very nice and helpful as well. They provided suggestions on a few restaurants on the island, as well as copies of menus so that we could see what was offered. They also were able to provide me with a 10% off discount to the Lilac Spa, as well as discount coupons for several area restaurants. Michelle, who took care of cleaning our rooms, was great, and are rooms were cleaner than in most hotels that I've stayed at. Danny & I will be back at the Cottage Inn... and I highly recommend others to try it out as well!

Breakfast is always a fun experience, although it gets pretty annoying having the SAME breakfast every morning. I feel like no one knows how to cook here. It doesn't even taste that great, you get like baked eggs EVERY morning which aren't that good with either muffins or cookies. Never changes. I mean if that's all your going to cook then it should at least taste good. No toppings for bagels either. I'm tempted to just never eat breakfast here and go spend my money on a restaurant. I mean I did pay for a bed and BREAKFAST. It's really making me consider other hotels on the island. I'd like to see more options and recipes.

The 270-degree view is, as advertised by the inn, spectacular. You can sit out on the point in the inn's yard and see a good number of Les Cheneux' islands and a far-off glimpse of the Martin Reef Lighthouse. You can bring along your kayak or canoe to dock at the boathouse and use the inn as a base to explore the protected channels and islands in this area of northern Lake Huron. You'll get a full breakfast here, often emphasizing the use of local ingredients like maple syrup from the nearby Tassiers and Betty's homemade bread and pastries. Jim and Betty went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed during our stay. Betty always made sure there was a jug of ice tea in the fridge for me and Jim arranged for us to go sailing with a friend of his because his own boat (which he usually used to take guests on a short tour of the area) was in for repairs the week we were there. Cedarville is also a good place to make your base when exploring the eastern Upper Peninsula. Sault Ste. Marie, St. Igance, Mackinac Island, Tahquamenon Falls, Whitefish Point, Drummond Island...are all possible to do as day trips from here. One thing to remember, they only take cash or personal check for payment. No credit cards.

My husband and boys were in need of a place due to covid and this was the last availability in the vicinity. It was a dump. They walked in and walked right out again and refused to stay. It needs to be demolished. It was the middle of a windstorm and it felt like the whole place was going to fall in. The floor was not level, the place was dark, dank and drafty. The owner is extremely confrontational and difficult to deal with, not someone you want to do business with. Find somewhere else to stay. We tried to call 2 separate numbers and kept getting a 'this is a voice call number'. So then tried to text the owner stating he misrepresented the property, not staying and wanted and refund. He called me a liar, said no one ever showed up, refused a refund, just basically yelled and screamed. He wanted to meet in person to discuss this, which was a huge red Flag and I obviously declined. We had a sitting room, king-sized bed, and whirlpool. Our private deck provided a view of Lake Huron. We only stayed one night so we only got to enjoy one breakfast. We had sausage, cheesy potatoes, fresh fruit and a cinnamon roll. It was wonderful. Seating is between 8-9:30am. A self-serve coffee/tea bar is available 24/7. As an added bonus, they serve dessert from 7-8pm nightly. We got to enjoy that one night as well. Dessert was a chocolate brownie topped with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, chocolate syrup, and caramel. Omg, it was so good. We really should have spilt one as they were huge. The place was in a great location. It was a short walk to the Mackinac Island ferry. We walked to a dinner spot. All the shops were only a short walk away.
