After my first night, I'd definitely recommend staying here! The price is average, the rooms are typical, and to my relief they allow pets. The weather is a record setting hot and muggy, so I am grateful that the A/C in my room rocks and that the shower temperature was perfect each time I had to run out to the car, feeling like Peter Falk in Columbo for just get one more thing I'd forgotten. TV looks nice, but I've been using my computer instead. I'll add more here if anything interesting happens. Yelp has a lot of amusing, angry, and bombastic reviews plus an interesting section of Not Recommended reviews I've never noticed before. Looking through the website photos and Yelp reviews, this looks like an attractive place to hold an event, especially with decor appropriate to the type of function. However, it seems these late-night functions disrupt those who want to sleep. In my experience, I found that it was super QUIET--I can't even notice nearby hotel doors thudding shut! But I did notice there are no Privacy Please hang tags, which I think is disconcerting. Maybe I need to ask the front desk for one? read more

This Inn should be no more than 40$ a night. The room I stayed in was so musty that I can't even believe I stayed overnight. Tv didn't work, and the place did not appear or feel clean or sanitized AT ALL. If it's an understaffing issue that's the problem well I hope management hires more people before things get worse. read more

The ONLY reason for three stars is the breakfast and the fact that the cost of the one night stay wasn't over $100. I would have given this Inn 2&1/2 stars because: #1 Our room was directly next to the Bar, where they have live entertainment on Friday & Saturday night until 11:00pm. #2 The furniture was dirty. #2. The bathroom sink drains smelled horrible. #4. 0 amenities. We had my Father's bereavement reception at the Lakeside Inn and they did an awesome job!! I live out of state and had to make all the arrangements via phone and email. I cannot thank Cheryl Redding, The Catering and Functions Manager enough. From our first phone conversation until our last conversation after the event, she went above and beyond to ensure our family had a perfect gathering to cap off my father's memorial service. Everything was perfect. Her staff was incredibly professional and friendly. The food top notch and the room with the view of the lake was fantastic!! It was an okay place. We stayed here because everything else was so darn expensive. I didn't feel totally safe with its location, but that was another worry. We entered the lobby which seemed pretty dated. We took the stairs to the 2nd floor and our rooms were large, but didn't feel totally clean. We stayed for 2 nights and honestly wished we'd only stayed for one. I won't be going back there any time soon. read more

Late check in went smoothly. Asked if we had a view of the lake but the man said no. He said that they were very busy and too booked up to give us one.(atleast he would have). It was Friday night and there was a band playing in the bar and food served until 10. We got a burger, it was pretty big! Didn't stay in the bar but nice environment. I think the locals like to come for the entertainment. Room was okay. Needs to be updated (desks, tables, chairs). Bed was decent but pillows flat. Bathroom door had a lot of scuffs on it. Surprisingly we didn't hear the music from downstairs. One negative was no fridge or microwave. Complimentary breakfast next to the lake was nice but baby plates and cups weren't fun. Half of the waffle couldn't even fit on a plate! And the syrup ran out fast.The next day, I was looking forward to fast breakfast like bananas and muffins but no more bananas. We had to get breakfast on the go because we were rushing to the airport. It was an okay stay for the price. Close to Salem and Boston. Couldn't go wrong! They just are in need of an update. Probably one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. 1. The check-in person doesn't seem like they know what they are doing. Kept getting confused on easy questions. 2. I ask for the workout room key and they say "Workout room isn't open due to covid" But they are not even wearing a mask inside of the building? 3. What hotel charges you before even checking in? If you're going to stay in the Massachusetts area, I highly recommend a Hotel you know. (Best western, or a choice hotel) Also they have BED BUGS!!!! I'm still waiting for a refund! Never returning. I was staying here monthly for business. This month I was put in a room above a live band and not told that I would literally be sleeping above the band. A sheepish apology was I all I got when I spoke to the staff because their rooms were sold out. I then had to call again when the band kept playing until 11:20pm. I'm up the next day for an early morning meeting and never plan to return to this hotel. I was trying to support a local family owned business. I'll be sure to book with a chain hotel next time. I simply can't find words to describe this place. The door hung on an angle, leaving a huge gap at the top, so that all noise from people coming and going, especially the drunk crowd from the karaoke activity in the bar kept us awake and frustrated. The odor of smoke was present, with a scent of mold underneath. The sheer curtains were ripped, and the idea we were staying in a former nursing home crossed our mind. The place has an overall slimy feel and I cannot recommend this place to anyone. The only saving element was the geese and their goslings. The 4 stars I gave were ONLY and SOULY due to the staff they have working the front desk. I stayed here a few nights recently with friends. I'll start by saying please read the reviews before expecting anything more from this hotel. With that being said... I've been to 5 star hotels who didn't have even half of the customer service skills these people have here. I stayed long enough to get to know the usual workers and their names. The ones that stood Out to me were really the overnight front desk people and early morning. Samantha was there almost every night. Girl is pregnant and about to pop and conducted herself so respectfully and professionally the entire time. She was helpful, always smiling and very funny. Great conversation to have when you're going out for a late night cigarette. The other person who stood out was Tamara. You could Tell she was new but she was wonderful and such a pleasure. I don't want to bash this hotel because at the end of the day you get what you pay for. But if you're looking for a great experience with wonderful staff over having the best looking room... this is the place for you. This place is a dump. Thankfully I wasn't paying for this stay. It was part of an event that my friends motorcycle club was having there. First off, the staff didn't seem to have any real info when asking them about issues that kept coming up with the rooms. My friend is a disabled vet that uses a scooter for mobility. We could not get this scooter in to the "handicapped accessible" room. It seems that in this case, handicapped accessible only means that they have a seat in a walk in shower and the light switch for the bathroom was moved to waist level... We needed to assist him with just entering and leaving his room. I was there with his daughter (my girlfriend). Our room was on the opposite end of the hotel so when he needed assistance, it was a walk to get there. The room we were in had no blackout shades so at about 5:30am, the room was so bright from direct sunlight that it was impossible to sleep after that time. There was no do not disturb sign for the door There wasn't enough towels left in the room and I damn near slipped and fell because of the smooth surface in the shower/tub. I had to place a towel that I had to ask the front desk for down to prevent any further slips. The rooms are sadly outdated and staff couldn't even fix a remote control issue on a television. Forget about it if there was a more pressing issue like a clogged toilet. My disabled friend went over 2 hours with no use if his toilet while we were told that "maintenance" was not available as it was after 7pm. I had to fix the problem myself. One last issue was that the door to my room would not open with out acting like you were serving a warrant on someone. Put the key in and hit the door with your shoulder to pop it open. I hope they see this and maybe fix these problems but after looking at some of the other reviews, I am not sure they care. read more

If you want to spend $1000 for only tables and chairs and tablecloths and a sale s manager with a combative approach to customer service then plan a function here. Up till the last day we were being informed of things we thought were included but were not. You pay for a bartender and tables covered and plates and napkins. Food setups were told were included were not. They wouldn't even let us put a cake in their fridge in their non active kitchen. We practically got questioned when trying to use the bathroom. Needed to verify that we were part of the function. I will say again how horrible my interactions were with the sales manager. Didn't return phone calls. Had to physically go there to get a conversation with her. And I'm still waiting on a refund for a coffee setup we were charged extra for and didn't use. While the stay was decent, the hotel atm shut down while I was making a withdrawal. It took the funds out of my account but didn't give me the cash. The general manager Al said he'd look into it. I called him when he said he'd be in and he wasn't there. I also went to the front desk 3 times, all saying they'd let him know and he said he'd look into it. I still haven't heard a thing and the money is still out of my account. It happened to 2 other guests, one time of which I witnessed myself. On the plus side, the room was generally clean and comfortable, however the bathroom floor is extremely slippery and we both almost fell a few times, so just use extra caution. The room didn't have a refrigerator or microwave and currently the rooms aren't serviced due to Covid so you need to turn in your towels to the desk and they'll give clean ones. On the 5th time when the hotel worker brought the TV up to our Room my husband tried to assist him accidentally Bumped him and the worker reported that my husband inappropriately touched him. We were asked to leave or we would be removed by police. I was told that I would get a refund for any unused nights but never got it I feel they are prejudice and would never suggest going here if you are of color. My husband and I booked a room here months in advance as we wanted to spend our anniversary in Salem, MA. We drove from Albany, NY and checked into our room to drop our luggage off and enjoy ourselves. When we returned to our room to retire from the evening we found that our bed STANK of urine. We immediately went to the front desk and were told they had no rooms but would give us fresh sheets. Yes, please, slap some laundry fresh sheets on the mattress that has been SOAKED in urine. We contacted a few local hotels to see if they had any available rooms but since it was Columbus Day weekend there was nothing available but a room at a nearby Motel 6 for one night only. his is long, because SO MUCH happened, but PLEASE READ IF YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT STAYING HERE. I booked 3 hotel rooms at Lakeside Inn through Hotels.com. we paid individually for the rooms when we got there. The first issue was that I selected on the 3rd party site that we would pay when we got there, the morning we left to get to the hotel I got a notification that they had tried to charge my card. I called and told the lady on the phone that we were all paying individually and that we would be in town around 1, and we could come and pay then. She said that was perfect, and when I got off the plane I saw that they tried to charge my card for all 3 rooms 7 different times. Since none of the charges went through, they then charged me $100 3 times, tried for a 4th, but the card I had on file declined the 4th charge. When we got there I asked about it and they said it was the cleaning fee. I said that the cleaning fee stated online is $50 you charged me $100 3 different times. They then told me that they didnt actually charge my card, it was just to hold the rooms. I had to go to the desk 4 different times and ask them when the money would be put back into my account and every time they said they would have to wait for a manager. On night 2 one of the people in our party was woken up by the smell of smoke and a fire next to his head, coming from the coffee pot. When he tried to unplug it, it was too hot to touch. He got it unplugged and brought it to the front desk, where he was blamed for the fire. They placed him into a new room, within hours, he noticed bed bug stains all over his new bed. When he went to the front desk again the manager became defensive and told him if he moved rooms again he would not be allowed to ask for a refund. He was then moved back into the room that had the electrical fire in it, with a new, unplugged coffee pot. On night 3 another party member heard a pop and gurgle come from their bathroom, when they went to check the sink and toilet were filling up with dirty water. The hotel tried to fix it and started that they would have to move rooms. When they got back that evening, they were told they had 30 minutes to pack their belongings and move to the other room because they had to clean and sell their original room that night. And on day 3 the 3rd room's bathroom lights and fan went out amd the manager was in and out for hours trying to fix it. When we requested a refund we were told to call hotels.com. I called and we were told all hotels.com could do was request a refund since we paid at the hotel, not online. The hotel denied the request stating that it's in their policy that they do not give refunds. (I have looked everywhere online and requested copies of what we signed there, they don't have that policy stated anywhere.) This place is by far the WORST hotel I have ever stayed in. I have even submitted a complaint to the BBB, and as of June 16th they still have not replied. You will be more comfortable at a Motel 6. read more

I would give zero stars if possible. I honestly don't know how this place is in business. Nasty dirty run down. See pics. That is a squished bug on the wall. The hotel and the room smelled like old ashtrays that they tried to cover the smell. The walls and ceiling were dirty/scuffed. It really needs to be burned down. If you look at the carpet near the beds, there is debris that a vacuum must not be able to get to. It was just super dirty and gross. I checked for bedbugs and luckily there weren't any. They also don't have an elevator so we had to carry our heavy luggage up a flight of stairs. That was fun. Had it not been really late and we needed to get up early to get to the airport, I would have walked out and found another hotel. Yelp needs to give reviewers an option of a "zero star rating." Honestly, I was not expecting this hotel to roll out the red carpet for us after paying $160 for a room but also, for $160, it should have been far better than it was. The guy at the front desk who checked us in at midnight was perfectly fine. We had just left Fenway and it was raining, we were tired, and we booked the hotel earlier in the day when we decided we wouldn't want to journey the two hours home in the rain after a game. Firstly, there is no elevator. I don't mind using stairs but it does make it slightly frustrating when lugging luggage around. Secondly, the room was - in a word - gross. There were stains all over the carpets, there were dirty fingerprints on the walls and the bathroom door (I mean, really, you can't clean that off? We all know that thousands of other people have stayed in this room before but the thought is to make it seem that they haven't so as to quell our anxieties about contracting head lice and/or skin diseases.) The TV was blurry so that you couldn't really see what you were watching, which forgive me if I am mistaken, is a massive reason for attempting to view something on TV. The king-sized bed felt more like cardboard. And the piece de resistance, it was super muggy and smelled like wet socks in the room. The windows only open a very small amount so it does not help to cool the room down or clear the room of the smell. So we go to plan b and decide to turn on the old school air conditioning unit. Welp, broken. And not just broken, but totally fried. I mean, I pulled the plug out of the wall and the plug was melted and so was the outlet. I mean, plastic melted, brown in color, when it was meant to be white. Pretty sure there's some sort of safety code violation there... Also, on the topic of cleanliness, HUGE snot dried onto the wall. The worst part of this is that it is clearly at an adult level and also, the people cleaning this room have completely dismissed attempting to rid the wall of its existence. To add an element of surprise, the alarm clock went off at midnight. WHO SETS AN ALARM CLOCK AT MIDNIGHT?! And isn't this part of protocol to ensure the clocks won't go off when the next guest is in? Anyway, because it's hot as the dickens in this room, we call down to the front desk and explain this issue. They say that they only have one room left and it's housing a trundle bed. (Exaggerating slightly, but not much. They said "full," I say that they pulled this thing out of the 1600's when it was used for three small impoverished children to sleep in that then was stored underneath the parent's bed.) To get to this room, we were told to go down the hall to the right about a half mile, past the construction supplies and plastic left on the floor, past the old Dunkin' Donuts cups left in the middle of the hallway, and turn when you see what looks like a blood stain smeared on the wall. Seriously though... CLEAN! In this room, the AC thankfully worked. But the phone didn't. Neither did the sink. When we told them about this and said, "So we paid for a king. That room was a bust and you should not be allowing people to stay in that room until you clean appropriately and bring shit up to code, etc. We are now in a much smaller room with a much smaller bed with even more things that don't work. We should be getting a discount." (something to that effect)... To which they replied, "Yeah, we don't usually give discounts. You can check with the manager in the morning but I wouldn't guarantee anything." WHAT. By the way, the strange décor that you have put in the lobby does not fit at all. I'm not sure if you're attempting to make some of your hotel look modern - but it is not working. This place needs a serious renovation and if not, you should be charging half of the price that you are charging now. Rename it to "Sort-of-Adjacent-to-a-Lakeside Motor Lodge." Definitely, definitely, definitely not returning. (Oh, and no, no refund or discounted price or anything.) Did I say "definitely not returning"??? read more

My boyfriend and I stayed here two nights. It's located in a good spot off the highway, which helped with where we were going. When we pulled up, the outside isn't all that inviting. It's a different story when you enter the lobby. You can tell they updated it. We arrive to our room and I wasn't impressed. The doors and walls had marks and stains. The carpet and furniture has seen better days. One of the wall outlets did not work. The bathroom looks like it had been updated. A pleasant surprise was it was the best water pressure out of all hotels I've stayed at. I gave this two stars because the staff was super friendly. read more

I have travelled extensively in my lifetime, and can say without hesitation that this is the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. The owner doesn't heat the halls AT ALL, or the bathrooms. It was constantly freezing because of this, and I had to ask them to close a window in my room (apparantly cracked and left open by a previous guest) in December!! Housekeeping should have noticed that. The rooms were fairly clean once you removed bedspreads and thankfully I always travel with Lysol. In one of my rooms the TV and phone weren't working and the bedside lamps had been removed. There also was no clock (which there had been in my previous room). A maintenance man did remedy all of this but having him in the room - coming and going for over an hour cost me my evening privacy, being able to change etc. The hotel was unwilling to make up for this in any way, including refusing me a room change. The breakfast offerred is classic motel food - watery, tasteless eggs; and/or greasy potatoes & sausage. They did provide apples and oranges and there was plenty of coffee. Worst on this hotel - the front desk staff were arrogant, condescending and quite rude - very superior attitudes. The weekend I left, I had a security issue which I asked the management to help with. The next morning I learned from hotels.com that the hotel had cancelled the rest of my stay (I had booked for 2 additional nights) AND that they never wanted me to return! That is how they treat a guest who asks for help? There was a man I did not want near my room. I personally had done nothing wrong - and that is how they treated me! I wound up at a much nicer place which cost a little more but was well worth it - and stayed over two weeks! If I could give The Lakeside Inn no stars I would have. This place is an absolute dumpster fire of an establishment. Outside of a few good staff members we dealt with (and I mean 3 people...of the roughly dozen we dealt with) this place is top on my list for worst hotel experience ever. When we arrived the women at the front desk was yelling at someone on the phone and then immediately yelled "you don't need to know my name" and hung up. I really hope that wasn't a customer, but based on the rest of my experience it probably was. We had non-smoking rooms and each one smelt like it was used as a cigar lounge at one point. The heat in our room was on full blast and when you walked in you could barley breathe. We attempted to open the windows, but only one would open. The room itself was dirty and had a single outlet for you to use. The bathroom door looked like something they stole off someones shed and it didn't even close properly (also the light switch was on the outside of the bathroom). The dresser/tv stand had what appeared to be 8-10 holes drilled in the top of it at one points. I went to go grab the remote to watch TV and relax for a few moments, only to find that the remote had what looked like a glob of old cheese from a piece of pizza on it. After my wife read some of the reviews we were so grossed out that we slept in our clothes and used our jackets as blankets. WARNING!! For those of you who are sensitive about food or people touching your food, stop reading now. Now onto the food lol. The breakfast was just as bad as everything else. To start off, they gave you small styrofoam plates and cups to use. The eggs looked like an off yellow and the sausage barley seemed cooked and was cold. The cereal wasn't bad, but then again you buy that. They did have a waffle maker...that made tiny waffles. The timer didn't work on it, so it was like a guessing game. We decided to go to the mother's day brunch before we hit the road, mostly because they put a flyer under our door discounting it to $15 a person. Sadly this again was a terrible decision on our part. After we were seated a staff member came in and yelled at us asking if that is where we had been seated. Confused she yelled again and ask if that was were (someone's name) had seated you. Obviously that is where we had been seated or we wouldn't have been sitting there. After being herded to a different room for the buffet, we stood in line to get our food. As you approached the table with the plates, you could see they were either dirty or had dried soap on them. One of the plates even had some leftovers from the last meal on them (YUM!!). The good news is after the guests took out all the dirty plates (90% of the stack), the staff brought out new plates....only those were just as gross. I feel bad for anyone who had to pay $30 (hotel guest that signed-up pre flyer) or $40+ for non-hotel guest! Most of our plates went back with majority of the food still on them because the food tasted gross. At the end of the day, the "Mother's Day Brunch" was just the same crappy continental breakfast but with a few lunch type options (ham, veggies and some type of potato). They did have "Hors d'oeuvres" lol. Well I mean if you consider chicken and mini waffles and a fruit platter Hors d'oeuvre lol. The chicken and waffles was probably the only decent thing they had...until you noticed that the waitress was touching all of them and moving them around on the plate. She took it up a notch though and when she thought no one was looking, she would eat the piece of chicken tender off the top and either leave the under cooked waffle on the plate or throw it away. I wish I could say I was joking, but I'm not. Our entire table saw it as she did it multiple times. I felt bad for those few good employees I mentioned earlier. They did their job with a smile on their face, even though you could tell they were miserable. We got the room for under $100 a night, but I'd recommend to anyone that you save your money and sleep in your car...it's probably cleaner and you'll get a better experience. Everything was very disgusting, bathroom was molding, really bad stench of smell and spider webs running down the hallways. No AC working properly, staff including general manager was extremely rude. They charged me extra for no reason and wouldn't refund me my money and they broke their policy on refunding. I was extremely patient with them waiting for over two weeks of trying to get in contact with the general manager about my refund. I'd spend everyday, multiple times a day trying and they kept lying about the general manager giving me a call back and the staff kept putting me on hold for 20 minutes than hanging up as soon as they saw my phone number; tried a different number and they answered right away. After over two weeks of getting lied at, the general manager that I finally got on hold with was extremely rude and he hung up the phone on my face saying he doesn't want to give me my money back. Ok, I've read some of these reviews and they are not accurate. This place is the best. The view? Excellent. The atmosphere? Excellent. The tavern in the hotel is a blast. Just a bunch of old folks shaking their 65+ asses and having a good time. Their whiskey sours? Excellent. Some of these reviews said there were boogers on the wall? I haven't found a single booger and I've been searching all night. The fact I get to lay in this comfy ass bed and watch Impractical Jokers at my leisure, is a 5 star rating in my book. If I could leave a negative 100 stars I would. I spent 6 nights at this hotel. The housekeeping was heurandous. Finally I went to the front desk to complain. The next day I got home from work and the room looked great until I realized the housekeepers maliciously picked up the night stand and crushed my phone charger underneath it. I had to pick the night stand up to get my charger. I went to management to let them know. They told me they didn't do it. So miraculously the night stand picked itself up and jammed my cord under there? Instead of proper management they told me to leave or they would call the cops and accused me of being on drugs. I told them I wanted a refund for the one night. They laughed at me and told me the conversation was over and to leave again. DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL!!!!!!!!! read more

We stayed two nights while on college visits with a side trip to Salem. The location was great, the staff was wonderful, the rooms were comfortable and clean. It was so nice to have the tavern right there. We were exhausted when we got back each evening and could just go down the hall and get dinner. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone in the area, and we are talking about going back in a few months. read more

I was in town for 1 night and needed a place to stay very very last minute and with rates in the area as high as $589 for the evening in surrounding towns and city's, Lakeside Inn grabbed my eye at a much more reasonable rate on hotels tonight. I was was right around the corner so I just walked into the lobby and asked if they had any availability. They did, gave me a great rate of $130 bucks with breakfast included and had me checked in almost instantly. Now let's get to the room, I travel 2/3 of the year and deal shop for rates so I've seen 5star luxury Wynn Las Vegas to 0 star Roach motels down south with bugs the size of the tv remote so the fact the hotel was a bit dated as noted in other reviews didn't bother me a single bit. Bed was clean bathroom was clean and overall it was fine to spend a night. If you're looking for the ritz this place might not be for you but to somebody looking for clean safe travel I would not hesitate to book. Absolutely disgusting. Upon arrival I knew it was going to be bad with the conditions of the building but was shocked as to how bad. First, there is no bar nor pool like advertised. Nor will there be bc a local told me they don't meet health codes! Drive 14 hours to not have half of the perks they STRONGLY advertise. Then there was black mold on my shower, the head board was broken, the fridge didn't not work and was filthy, there's nothing for breakfast, no coffee, or cups in the rooms, the ice machine is broken so no way to keep anything cold and was told I'd have to wait til mid day the next day, so stop my vacation, and make time to meet with the owner. The guy behind the desk originally told me no about any refund due to the pool and bar. Motel 6 would have been better! And when I went to complain to the front desk 2 other ladies began telling me their horror stories. All 3 of us were told differently about what the issue with the pool was and when it would be open and it's no time soon. And I have a picture for every complaint. GREAT place to host an event!!! We just had our wedding at Lakeside Inn, and we seriously could not have picked a better place. Cheryl, the person in charge of organizing events at the inn, is simply AMAZING!!! She is so friendly, kind, gracious, helpful, and professional. She walked us through the whole process, was never fazed by our questions, and always took the time to make sure we were happy with how things were going. She is SUPER creative and talented, and came up with so many cool ideas for our event!! Cheryl is someone you can completely trust with your wedding. I told her that if she needed to make any decisions the day of, to go right ahead and not even ask (since we'd be at the ceremony elsewhere). When we came back for the reception, it was a little colder and drizzlier than we had anticipated... but she had added cute pop-up tents and blankets on the benches outside around the fire pit, which she had just bought so that we could still enjoy the lawn and not get cold!! Our guests loved it and everyone snuggled up around the fire pit while the more intrepid ones ran around on the grass! The inn is very nice inside. We rented the whole downstairs, which I recommend if you want to use the lawn and the indoors. The dining room is beautiful and newly renovated, and having the whole bar to ourselves was a great choice. We held the dancing there, and guests could play pool or hang out by the fire pit with s'mores while not dancing. It was beautiful by the lake! The one thing that was challenging (which I hesitate to mention, because this was literally our only problem) was the room booking process. There was no online system at the time for booking with the group rate, and because of a weird e-mail quirk, a lot of our guests didn't receive confirmations even though the inn staff in charge of this part sent them out. But we sorted it all out in the end. All in all, I highly recommend Cheryl and the Lakeside Inn, and we hope to go back and visit when we can!! read more
