We arrived before noon and were hopeful our room was available, which it wasn't. We figured we'd use the hotel for a pit stop, sit in the lobby to plan a day trip to Marblehead, and then check in later in the day. After my wife asked the registration desk for directions to, and then visited the ladies room, she told the desk that the restroom was out of paper, and the clerk said "oh yeah, I know." Wow... would it have been too much to mention that before she went in? So after that bit of uncomfortableness, we sat down at a table near the coffee machine and saw most of the tables needed a good cleaning--there were straw wrappers and spilled sugar everywhere. After we did find a clean table, we did see maintenance come over and start working on the tables. Our room was fine- big enough to relax in with a couch, a comfy bed, a nice work desk and a totally adequate bath and shower. On the minus side, the walls are thin, so you might hear your neighbors, and you might hear the traffic roaring by on Route One, which pretty much abuts the hotel property. The included breakfast was very good with a nice assortment of the usual hot and cold items. No complaints about breakfast. Parking is free and there are plenty of spots available. So all in all, once we checked in we had a decent stay here with no further complaints. PRO TIPS 1 - We entered the hotel property from the left lane of Route One on a pretty sharp approach, so be diligent and be careful if that is the way you're getting there. 2 - There is a fantastic Italian restaurant (Marco's) within a few hundred feet at 47 Newbury Street read more

Nope, never again. It seems like an old hotel that was rebranded as a Springhill. From the cold, uninviting lobby to the outdated rooms, I do not want to come back. I'm not sure if it was dirty or just old, either way, neither my colleague nor I wanted to shower here because it just felt gross. read more

This is definitely an older hotel but it is clean and just off the highway. I chose this hotel because I had some Marriott points to use and it was close enough to Salem for our one night stay. It is also pet friendly and we had our dog with us. If you're a light sleeper look elsewhere. I could clearly hear our neighbor on the phone at night and road noise. There was a high school baseball team there during our stay and the free breakfast was a complete zoo in the morning with all the kids grabbing food. The staff did a great job trying to keep up with the demand. We didn't use the pool but there is a small indoor pool open until 10pm. The $3.87 nightly parking fee was just obnoxious, I'd rather they just roll that into the price. If you are visiting Salem during peak season I probably wouldn't recommend this hotel, unless you don't mind sitting in traffic. Off season it was about a 15 min drive. read more

Very disappointing. Not sure why the good reviews!? I've stayed in hundreds and hundreds of hotels across the US and Internationally and this is one of my lowest rated hotels. Very old and dingy rooms. We stayed on the second floor. The carpet is very dirty , there was a bug in our room and the bathroom sink & countertop space is smaller then the size of a child's bathroom. We were woke up on a Saturday morning at 7am to a painting crew moving their high reach lift as it beeped while they moved it to start painting outside our window. The lobby area has a weird vibe and it's dirty too when you walk in. Not a fan of this place at all! The only positive I can think of is it was an easy drive to Salem. Only about 25 mins. read more

So this hotel is right off a freeway which once you miss your turn you'll have to go a country mile to turn around (sarcasm). It is quite annoying. We stayed for six days and I think we missed our exit or turn about half the time. So, pay close attention :). There is a shopping center near by with a lovely Italian restaurant. When we checked in it was pleasant. The front desk staff were very nice and helpful. They gave us tips on where to go. Also, this hotel is kind of in the center of "things to see" so that's a plus. Salem is not far from here and downtown Boston. I like the location. This hotel looks a little old from the outside (needs new paint). But when you come in the lobby actually looks very nice. It has been recently renovated. The rooms are also renovated but I think they missed the bathroom (not renovated). The room is nice though. During our stay there were a lot of tourists. Lots of kids (high schooler's). But I only saw them at breakfast. Didn't hear any loud noises or had any disturbances (another plus). Oh by the way there is free continental breakfast. Cons: like I said it's off the freeway, so the turn is easy to miss. The bathroom toilet is loud when you flush. We did see one little bug crawling by the bathroom light fixture. We tried to get but it went in the light (we never saw it again). I give this hotel 3.5 stars. It was a good stay but could be better. I would come back again. I experienced a serious safety issue during my stay when another guest was given access to my occupied room at midnight while I was sleeping. That alone was bad enough, but what happened afterward was even more frustrating. The General Manager personally told me that my entire stay would be comped because of the incident. It was he who let this random guest have a key to my room. I was also told that the refund had been communicated and confirmed. However, after I checked out, the refund was not processed. When my credit card company contacted the hotel, the same manager who had promised the refund attempted to deny it. I then spent over a week making calls, following up, and escalating the matter. The refund was ultimately approved only after my credit card company spoke directly with another hotel employee who confirmed the facts of what occurred. What should have been a straightforward resolution turned into a lengthy battle over a refund that had already been promised. The entire experience left me feeling mislead and shows a true lack of professionalism by the management here. Everyone makes mistakes. Checking another guest into an occupied room is a serious one. But making promises to resolve the situation and then attempting to back away from those promises afterward is what turned this from an unfortunate mistake into a terrible customer-service experience. What a mess of a place. Not worth the price should of stayed at a Motel 6 because it would of been a lot better and a lot cheaper. Had to wrap a towel around the shower head because water was squirting out all over the bathroom. Hotel staff are rude and not around for assistance. Maid does not check if there is soap or tissues in the room, (ran out of both). Garbage cans in the lobby are overfilled, etc. Desk had some sticky stuff all over it. Should of realize that something was wrong with this hotel because they had signs up stating if your stay is not rated a 9 or a 10 they what to know. Very nice hotel but a little bit tricky to get into. The room is very clean and nice. The sink is outside the actual bathroom. One bedroom suite is pretty spacious. Lobby is nice and breakfast starts at 6:30 AM and goes to 10 AM Monday - Sunday. This is better than the hiltons next door because their breakfast start at 7 AM on the weekends. Staff is all very nice and friendly. A very popular hotel (and nearby ones) for wedding guest and families on the weekend. It would've been five stars but I don't like the fact that they automatically charge you for the daily parking fee, even when I didn't park there. I had to call back several times because I was confused by the additional charge. Make sure you ask for a manager to see if you can get your parking fee waived if you didn't actually park there. read more

Strangest thing- night one, no problems- bed comfy, shower & bath clean- night two, after we returned to the hotel- it was like someone had smoked cigarettes in the room. The smell slapped you in the face when you came through the door & in the bathroom too. I can't explain it. Cleaning is suspended, so no one should have been in the room. At one point, John asked me to try standing outside the next room door to see if I could smell smoke from our neighboring room. I didn't. I have severe allergies, so I was pretty miserable that night. Breakfast was standard. Scrambled eggs, sausage patty, bagels, muffins, bananas, oatmeal, yogurt & cereal. Same thing every morning. We felt comfortable booking here because it was a Marriott Hotel. We will not be back to this hotel on our next trip. I don't like writing bad reviews and always give the business an opportunity to respond and make it right. But these guys fell short, not addressing most of our concerns. We were traveling for a short vacation to the Boston/Salem area so this was a natural place to stay. We arrived late at night and were exhausted. We simply went to bed our first night. We woke up and actually looked around the room to see how gross it was. Our couch had stains all over it, we went to flip the cushion and found a gross used mask in the couch. This was simply unacceptable. Marriott promotes how awesome their Covid 19 cleanliness is, clearly that is a joke. We immediately complained and were moved to another room, the staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating of our complaint. Breakfast was lackluster, cereal, oatmeal and a few packaged heated, soggy sandwich or quiche options. This place is in need of a deep clean and facelift. read more

Wanted to take a trip to Salem and it was kind of last minute. We needed a dog friendly place as well as some place close to Salem. This hotel was perfect. I agree it's a bit tricky to get to and you definitely could miss the entrance if you go from the front or the back. Hotel staff were friendly. Check in was quick. Room was very clean. The biggest issue I had was that there was only a very small garbage and very small recycling can. We filled them up within a day and had to have shopping bags of garbage. We had a king size bed with a trundle. Bed and trundle were comfortable. There was enough room for 3 of us plus a dog. Not a lot of place to eat if you come back with food, one desk with a chair. Breakfast was decent. There was an egg dish available both mornings, as well as a meat protein and today there was potatoes and yesterday was breakfast sandwich. Of course there's cold cereal, toast, bagels (cream cheese, butter, peanut butter), oatmeal with 6 different toppings, yogurt, waffles, juice, milk and coffee. I was nervous about staying so close to busy highway but things did work out. During the summer time, Boston hotels are booked and tariffs can get quite pricey so this is a reasonable option for a budget mindset. Plus if you have a car then you can pay $7 for parking at Wonderland on the blue line and take a T into Boston downtown. Hotel amenities were as expected. Several schools kids were in town as part of a large travel group so breakfast areas was humming with activities and was quite busy. I am not sure where people normally stay if this is a nice hotel to them. We were exhausted and our original hotel we were planning to stay outside the city filled up before we got there. We were there for like 8 hours getting a few hours of sleep before flying out. We saw shady things going on out in the parking lot. Our room was so hot and smelled when we walked in like something overly sweet which was probably masking up some other smells. We could not get the Air to be comfortable- when it was on no matter the temperature was freezing cold and was so loud. When it was off it got hot within five minutes. There was dirt and nasty stuff all over the couch. There was scribbled markers and marks all over the desk. The carpet was thread bare and there were 2 bath towels- no hand towels or wash cloths at all in the room. The bed was the only thing that felt clean I checked every piece of it. I didn't think any other room there would be better given what we saw. We just were exhausted and needed sleep but I will sleep in my car next time rather than stay here. I can't believe that we spent over $350 for one night at this dump. read more

For being on the border to a landfill, this was a really nice hotel! It's only 15 miles from Logan airport and a 20 to 30 minute drive to Salem and Cape Ann towns. As a rewards member, I received a goodie bag when checking in. There was also cantaloupe infused water, cookies, and some other sweets available to all guests when I arrived. My room was big with a bar counter (including sink), couch, and work desk, in addition to the king-size bed. The room also had actual water glasses, which I really appreciate. Breakfast is included in your reservation and there's good variety, including oatmeal bar, fruit, make-your-own waffle, several kinds of bread and muffins. The hotel switched over to autumn decorations while I was there, which made the lobby and dining area look very festive and seasonal. You should note that the hotel is difficult to get to from the highway, just because there is a fast and confusing turn off. You'll likely need to circle around. The hotel elevator is slow and the stairs are placed at the far ends of the hallways. read more

1st we noticed the room, we found a drawing that was under the wooden tray, also removed the couch cushions to set up the bed for my 9 year old son, no fitted sheets also dirt and food crumbs were under the cushions all over the wood slats, the bathroom smelt like straight sh!t, the rug wasn't even vacuumed, after myself my wife and her friend cleaning setting up the room, we went to take our 2 kids to the pool, the lobby was flooded, because they didn't have towels in the pool area, I went to the front desk twice, I've noticed other guests went back up and brought back room towels, they don't up keep anything, the whirlpool dial didn't work, and what pathetic management of a hotel actually believes that $7.00 for a beer is acceptable? I can buy an entire 6 pack for the price of 2, that's highway robbery, we expect better than this, especially from a Marriott, it will be the last time we ever go to a Marriott, if I could remove stars I would unfortunately I have to give a star just to leave a review. We really enjoyed our stay at SpringHill Suites. Though not as full featured as a Residence Inn, it served our needs. For being a Marriott Rewards member, I received a snack gift bag at check-in and a 200 reward point bonus! We had a nice spacious 2 queen bed suite with a kitchenette area that included a small fridge, microwave and coffeemaker. There's only (1) 32" LCD TV and it's located in an awkward position that you can't really see from the pullout sofa. WiFi was reasonably fast and was included in our rate, plus lots of outlets to plug in all your phones and tablets. The shower was hot, the towels were plushy and the parking was free, so we were happy campers. Daily breakfast is also included, serving standard scrambled eggs & sausage. There was even vegetarian sausage one day, but that wasn't for me. Give me animal protein any day. Along with toast, bagels, croissants, muffins, fruit and cereal, you might not even eat for the rest of the day. I like that they have 2 waffle irons to make your own fresh Belgian waffle without waiting when it gets crowded. There are also quite a few restaurants in the area, plus Sonic is right next door for a quick burger or dog. I would also recommend Marco's Italian Cucina just a short walk out of the parking lot. We didn't get to try out the indoor pool or the gym, but we'll keep them in mind for next time. As others have said, the access roads here are a little confusing. Since the hotel is set back from the road behind some stores, it takes a couple of tries before you can really find the entrance, especially at night. If you pass it by, take the next turn off for Dearborn Rd and come in through the back on Hotel St. Otherwise the U-turns on Rt 1 are a P.I.T.A. read more

If you've ever stayed at a Springhill Suites, you know what to expect. Great service, Decent Breakfast, Small Gym, Small Pool, Spacious rooms with Microwave, a Fridge and so forth. This location is not much different from the rest. If anything, the rooms (at least mine) might have a touch smaller than other Springhill Suites I've stayed in. The Gym comes equipped with disposable earbuds and water as well. (Tip: grab an earbud for your flight home). The location is right on route 1, so its pretty good if you're going to drive everywhere, easy access to all cities out in the north shote. Its not so great for walkers like myself, who like to roam around and see the area. Big bonus, the beds were fantastic!! read more

I first found this hotel, 2 years ago, while looking to spend Halloween in Salem. I was blown away by the outstanding customer service we received! Everyone was friendly, and went out of their way to help us with anything we needed. Well, we ended up going to Salem For the weekend again, and was fortunate enough to be able to book with them again! We received the same wonderful service we did, 2 years prior. The breakfast buffet is complimentary, and they have coffee, hot chocolate, hot tea, and cider for guests at the hotel when you check in. I stayed here for several nights and had a totally average experience. There is nothing particularly impressive about this hotel. This place needs a serious upgrade. The rooms and bathrooms look old and really need a facelift. The lobby is fine but only 1 elevator works. On the plus side, my room was kept pretty clean, so I appreciated that. Bedding was mediocre. The pillows were extremely light and thin, and I had to use several in order to have any neck and head support. Honestly the one thing that was actually good at this hotel was the service. All of the staff were super friendly. The toilet was broken and the manager was great about taking care of that, even though maintenance had to come two separate times to fix the issue. Everyone was just generally pleasant had a smile on their face. This hotel is just alright. Keep your expectations in check if you do decide to stay here. read more

I have been here for 5 days. not once has my room been cleaned, new towels replaced, or my sheets changed. I complained on Monday after finding still unclean, and they dropped off clean towels and sheets if I wanted to make my bed myself. They said it would be cleaned at least on Tuesday before I depart on Wed. I came back to find the bed made but when I pulled back the top blanket there were crumbs and specks all over the still unchanged sheets. carpets not vacuumed, counters not wiped, and my sink is clogged from something they dumped in it. Management says they don't know how to unclog it, it'll have to wait until morning and I found Asian beetles crawling on the ceiling. just got a receipt that they took 50 dollars off....10 dollars a day for no room cleaning...I'm a member and have never complained...but management here has not even contacted me. The service here is TERRIBLE! A motel is more accommodating and cheaper. read more

I seriously WISH I could leave 0 stars on this. I am disgusted by this hotel. NEVER stay here. We checked in and as soon as we got to our room we were greeted by the shower/tub being dirty. There was some sort of sticky, substance. We then started to check around the room and found several gross stains on the floor and SHEETS. We decided to walk down to the front desk after waiting 30 mins for someone to come clean our tub. When we asked for sheets the woman at the front desk immediately responded "not tonight." We were shocked! We then explained the dirty sheets and tub in which she said there was nothing that could be done tonight. So we asked for clean sheets that we could put on ourselves, she said "maybe, check back in an hour." It's 10pm and we are tired. I have never in my life been so disgusted by a place. This palce is soooo nad and im pretty sure the only reason they get business is because they are one of the few hotels in the area. I've been twice for two weddings, one being my own and both times the rooms smells like mildew, idk if there is water damage somewhere or what but to be in there two different times months apart and it still smells, there is a problem. And when you ask them to change rooms they act like you should just deal with it smh Yeah the front desk is great with customer service and there is breakfast but I would never pay hard earned money to stay here. read more

This hotel by far was one of the best I ever stayed. The price was great. There was a living room with coffee or tea pot, refrigerator and microwave. The bed was clean and so soft. The whole place was clean which is number one for me. It had a pool and a Jacuzzi. Now I save the best for last. The man that checked us in Craig. He was so helpful. Saying if you have questions just ask he's lived there his whole life. He was friendly, kind and helpful. Then the best part we woke up to have card under our door from Craig. Saying I hope our was nice and do on. I've never had an employee go so above and beyond. He deserves to be Top Manager with a pay raise. Because of him I'll record this hotel to everyone. Love that the lobby offers cookies, water, m&m's, lollipops, taffy and coffee 24 hours a day!! Terrific staff!! We shall definitely stay here again the next time we are in the area!! read more

Awesome hotel!! A little hard to find but worth the effort. As soon as we walked in they gave the kids goody bags with candy, chips etc. and they offered me coffee, tea, pumpkin bread and doughnuts. Such a nice welcome after a long drive. Everything was clean and modern and the staff were were so accommodating. Breakfast was very good. Waffles, oatmeal, eggs, sausage and more. They even had veggie sausage which made my daughter very happy. As far as the room goes, it was nice and big. 2 beds and a pull out couch. It also has a desk and a kitchen area with a sink, microwave, coffee maker and mini fridge. There is absolutely nothing not to like. I am definitely coming back. Yay me! read more

I stayed there in February 2023, had booked with my credit card for two nights, friday and saturday. We got there late friday night and while in our room, we saw a COCKROACH. I was too disgusted to stay the following night we had booked, and asked for a refund for the night we were not going to use. They refused. my credit card company has been going back and forth with them to reimburse for the night we did NOT stay (checked out at 10am the next day). I wouldn't risk staying here, you can see previous reviews also stating how unclean the hotel is. We ended up staying at the Holiday Inn right down the road and had a much more pleasant experience. read more

I found Morningstar vegetarian sausage at breakfast here. I've never ever seen this. Personally, I ate 4 veggie sausages. I love them. The negative about this was that whoever was in charge of cooking them has obviously never eaten them. They were not crisp in the middle, therefore what could be described as edible but texturally "raw". We were going to run them through a cycle in the conveyor bread toaster but there was a sign that said "bread only in toaster" (or something like that and I'm generally a big rule follower). We found another way to crisp them but I'm not going to 'out' my method and risk losing it as an option in the future. If you need to know, get in touch... The staff that we had interactions with (front desk, breakfast, random people walking around) were all very friendly and nice. The hotel lobby, elevator, hallways, parking lot, and the room we stayed in were all very well maintained. There were minor signs of wear and tear but in general, I found it to be in far better shape than the hotels that neighbor it (by a long shot, tbh). We checked in at close to 1am and the message light was blinking on our room phones. When we tried to listen to the message we got an error beep on both phones. I unplugged them just in case there were more malfunctions to come. read more

Very friendly stay near Salem during our fall visit. The property was beautifully decorated for the season and the staff was super friendly. We were offered a gift bag upon check in with some info about the area. The rooms were quite spacious and comfortable. They were fuly equipped with a kitchen area, frig, sink, coffee maker, desk and couch, separate bathroom and bedroom. We would definitely would stay here again. The free breakfast was OK. They also offer a cooler for other items for purchase throughout the rest of the day. The only downside was the location of the property was AWFUL. It was so hard to get to off the highway. Depending on which direction you were coming from, you may have to make a U-turn which was not an easy feat depending on the time of day. It was also easy to miss the exit if you are quick with your reflexes. We were constantly going through the nearby Sonic to get back to the hotel because we kept missing the darn entry! Seriously, this was the ONLY issue while staying here. If your up for the challenge of getting there, you should stay here. :) read more

I have stayed in this property more times than I can count. As a business traveler, I loved the availabilty of a kitchen area and a feeling of "home" rather than just a standard hotel room. It isn't a plush resort, but the location was convenient, the rooms clean and the staff helpful. For an extended stay, this is a great place to stay. I can't comment on the breakfast because I am not a fan of hotel "free" breakfast so have not taken part. I love that I can pull my own yogurt and fruit out of the fridge in my suite. read more

We are here for Christmas. The pic is of the dryer vents. Hard to see but in those vents are a ton of little starlings ( birds) and nests they have made. My concern is obviously the potential for a fire. The elevator certificate expired back in 2014. I don't know who's responsibility it is to have them checked but this shouldn't be something that gets overlooked. The rooms are modern and clean. Dont let the word "suite" fool you though, although it is a suite...the fridge is a standard hotel size, the microwave tiny, there is not the amenities in the room that a kitchenette normally offers..plates, silverware, counter space etc. I felt a bit deceived by the ad and finding none of these things in the room. The breakfast buffet is better than the norm. Hot options such as scrambled eggs sausage & oatmeal. Cold offerings like cereal fruit bagels oh and a waffle maker which the kids always love, complete with a bowl of chocolate chips next to it for those who really like it sweet. The night manager was a delight. Very accommodating. The decor throughout the hotel is very nice. I feel some of the common areas could be cleaned better. The hotel is pretty new and the build up in corners and the elevator for example is going to come back and haunt them. Why not keep up with it better as to not have a larger project to deal with down the road? During our stay the hot tub jets were broke , I do wish that info was put on the third party website i booked threw. Or even if they had sent me an email when Springhill received my info. Lastly, they take a $20.00 per night deposit if you use a debit card. Being given that information before i got here would have been appreciated. I dont like surprises like that upon check in. I have nothing negative to say about my stay at SpringHill Suites. It was my two children(10&6) and I, My stay was great. The staff went above and beyond to meet my expectations and then some. They are very accommodating, COMPASSIONATE, kind and really do go that extra mile. The day staff and night staff, housekeeping etc.... everyone made my stay wonderfully comfortable and more importantly, made me feel safe!
