Liz, a waitress at the bar, was absolutely horrid. Not only was she completely dismissive but she was also rude. After waiting over 45 minutes and still having not received the two desserts we ordered (this was all we ordered) she dismissed our question by saying desserts are made to order. We then go on to wait an additional 20 minutes before attempting to flag her down only for her to very evidently dismiss us. Hannah, the manager at the bar, came over to our table and asked about our situation; apologized and brought our desserts out within 5 minutes. The hotel felt very clean and new. The staff was very kind and the hotel seemed very well taken care of however, there was a very strong fragrance in both the room and the hotel lobby as soon as you enter the building, you will smell it. It's just something to keep in mind if you're sensitive to fragrance. The hotel is very small and the doors of the rooms are very thin so you can hear everything that goes on downstairs in the bar and lobby. This was a nice hotel located in the heart of Solvang. We did an overnight trip and really enjoyed our short stay here. It was so cool to get a physical key to our room. Our room was so HUGE -- big bed, lots of space in and around everything. It didn't feel cramped like other hotels. Very clean and tidy. The staff here were amazing and friendly despite our stay being very close to Christmas. We closed down the bar in Mad and Vin and chatted with the bartenders who were working a very busy shift with the dining area. It's in a very convenient location where you can walk up and down the main strip and not have to worry about driving around and looking for parking. Can't wait to come here again! read more

Luxury and class in this hotel. I was pleased with all the parking in the back. Very easy. Just go to the back and park prior to checking in. Staff are friendly and accommodating. The lobby has bar service and very comfortable seating. You can order bar food but not from the restaurant menu. The room, single king, was comfortable. We had a courtyard view. Meh. See if you can get something else. The furnishings were well kept and comfortable. The bathroom was new and clean. I was impressed with how quickly the staff took care of our room in the morning. Fast and efficient. Just a delightful place. The restaurant is really busy for dinner. You need a reservation in advance. You can, however, get takeout which is what we did. It was great. It's less busy for breakfast and brunch. No reservations needed. read more

In the market for the perfect Solvang getaway? We couldn't recommend this hotel more. The property it's led is gorgeous & in the middle of downtown. The restaurant Mad & Vin in the lobby was one of our favorite meals. Our room was spacious, clean, and the balcony was plus! I wasn't too pleased with my stay here. It's one of the nicer hotels in town and centrally located but probably one of the most awful stays I've ever had. The main issue is the thermostat in the rooms. It stays lit up day and night. The glow from this lights up the room and when you're trying to sleep, it's really a nuisance. It might not be an issue if you're a heavy sleeper but I'm not and as a result I got very little sleep. I tried to report this multiple times. The front desk advised me that it did not seem correct and they would send a technician. This never helped. Honestly, I believe this is just how their rooms are. We had friends staying in the hotel at the same time who said they have the same issue. Except with their thermostat, there is a cloth cover that goes over the unit to block the glow. Unless I learn they have replaced these units, I think I'll stay somewhere else Update...I'm going to give them one star. I emailed the manager to voice my frustration. It appears a response to my concerns just isn't warranted. I can't get a thank you for letting us know or anything. I'm sure they'll feel differently when business drops off. My only concern was there is plenty of onsite parking, but they charge $20/night, which I thought was silly since the hotel itself isn't cheap. But other than that, it was a great stay. Stayed for one night after a disastrous night in Santa Barbara. We were scrambling trying to figure out where to stay for our second night on our girls' weekend trip, and this place popped on our search for potential places to stay. Since we walked by on our stroll through DT Solvang, we decided to pop in to see if we liked it. And we were completely CHARMED by this hotel! We stayed in a double queen room overlooking a private courtyard and it was perfect. Pros: - Staff! When we wandered in my friend unloaded our horrid night in Santa Barbara. They kindly let us know there were vacancies for that night and even led us on a room tour to the double queen we eventually stayed in, as well as their biggest suite. Staff was friendly, sympathetic, and very accommodating. I really appreciated that they took the time to listen to our woes. - Location, location, location! This hotel was right in the middle of the main DT area, and everything was a quick walk away. Also very close drive to nearby wine country - Double queen room we stayed in was the perfect size. The bathroom was spacious, even had a jacuzzi tub. It overlooked a courtyard, which had a few fire pits. The hotel was selling (not completely sure if it was being sold or just came in the room) marshmallows to roast over the firepits. - There was a small but tiny parking lot. Staff mentioned there was more parking available in another location, but we were able to find spots on a Saturday. - There was a restaurant attached to the hotel, in case you were too lazy to go further for food - Wine Comps! When we mentioned to staff that we were going wine tasting, staff immediately shared a lovely guide that showed places that offered complimentary wine tastings (there were about 4-5 locations) since we were guests of the hotel. There was also a variety of places that offered 2 for 1 tastings, both in town and in neighboring wine areas. What a deal! Cons: - Only sad spot was that this hotel did not have a pool. It ultimately didn't matter as my friends and I went wine tasting, but this would have been the perfect hotel if there was a pool. Would I come again? Yes! The bar can get lively at night and they have bikes for their guests use. PRO TIP: save yourself $20 per night by parking on the street. The staff gave my friend and I exceptional service. Checking in was a breeze and the front desk staff were all so helpful. The hotel is clean and comfortable and is also centrally located in Solvang, so finding lots of wonderful restaurants and bakeries was not a problem. I really loved my room, which was a one bedroom on the second floor with a view of the lovely courtyard. The hotel restaurant Mad and Vin has a very good menu and we even ordered dinner to take up to our rooms on a couple of the nights we could not go out because my friend had problems with walking since she had a recent injury. We loved the chicken soup and the vegetarian spring rolls. We had breakfast at Matt and Van on a couple of days and enjoyed the avocado toast. The hotel also has a bakery located in the courtyard which is the sister to The Danish Mill Bakery and we visited the bakery almost every day! It has a good selection of pastries as well as coffees and lattes. The staff at the bakery were so friendly and helpful. They also sell the cookies from The Danish Mill Bakery. I would definitely recommend The Landsby to anyone visiting Solvang! My friend and I already are planning our next trip here! read more

For those who are planning a trip to Santa Ynez wine country, you know that there isn't a lot of great information on what to do, where to go, etc. You could watch the movie Sideways, ask a local or find a luxury hotel with a concierge. I did two of those things ... I would have done three but when I called The Landsby, I was told that the front desk agents double as a concierge. When I called to inquire about local wineries I should visit I was also told by said front desk agent that they had 'no clue' about wineries and that I should find a visitor information stand in town. Off to a bad start Landsby! First of all, I narrowed down my options to 3 while visiting the area ... The Landsby in Solvang (who's photos on the website look like an instagram feature), Fess Parker's Inn of Los Olivos (recommended by locals) and Corque in Solvang (cheapest option and the only one with a hot tub). I chose The Landsby because of the great photos online (even though Fess Parker had better reviews) and because I was worried there would not be much to do after 5 p.m. in Los Olivos. Turns out that is true of Solvang as well. The worst thing about The Landsby (besides a bogus $15 per night parking charge to use their lot/garage!) is the DUST!!! Each morning the entire room would be coated in a fuzzy white dust. I'm not talking a few specks of dust ... I'm talking about a LAYER! I left my clean black sunglasses out overnight and when I woke up, they had a layer of dust on them which looked like Mount Vesuvius had exploded that night. Each of us developed a cough and stuffy nose after our stay ... not a cold ... more like respiratory. So if you are allergic to dust or pollen ... word to the wise homeboy or homegirl ... you'll get dust here. As a bonus, no windows in the room open. If you are a light sleeper, there are no curtains, only wooden slat blinds which in the morning leak bright light into the room. Each day we had a 7 a.m. wakeup call courtesy of the rays of sunshine which would fill the white walls of the room with no way to sleep late. Also I will agree that somehow the doors act as a magnifier to outside sounds, so voices in the hall, etc. will sound like they are being projected through speakers into your room. The bed is firm and I woke up with a sore back as well. Enough negatives ... the good is that the room looks a lot like the photos you'll see online. It is tastefully decorated and looks like a West Elm catalog. It's bright and airy and our room was big and spacious. The bathroom was the worst part of it. Small toilet and combined 1950's tub/shower unit. Very disappointing ... The Landsby should invest in glass doors and walk-in showers. Oddly, there is no door on the sink area to the bathroom which makes it awkward to get out of the shower and get ready. You are absolutely on display to anyone in the room. A sliding barn door would fix this nicely, if the hotel would put one on. Otherwise the roof was comfy and very clean looking from a decor standpoint. The lobby is beautiful as well and the bar closes at 9 pm most nights, which is frustrating! I kind of feel like it should be open later ... they turn the fire pits off at 9 p.m. as well. The restaurant is large and tastefully decorated. The whole vibe at the hotel is upscale Norwegian and slightly hipster with lots of leather, fur and textile patterns. Solvang itself has not much to do other than bakeries and a few eclectic shops. The brewery across the street stops serving food at 9 or 10 p.m. but they do serve drinks a bit later. If you take nothing else away from this review ... take this ... Solvang is PACKED with tourists. It's like a cruise ship port only with bus groups. All breakfast spots have a huge line and there are picture taking instagrammers everywhere. Also, Solvang has no good tasting rooms ... we tried most and the wine was dreadful. Los Olivos had all the best ones. So overall, this is a good option for a stay. It's expensive for the area but comfortable and upscale. Not quite the 5 star Fess Parker ... it's low on amenities but the staff is friendly and kind, even if not overly helpful with local recommendations and times. If pinterest decor makes you swoon ... you'll like this place. It's 5 miles from Los Olivos and as close to Buellton. We ubered everywhere we needed to go for $15 each way. The only issues ... BS parking charge, the horrible dust situation and the curtain less windows making it impossible to sleep past 7 a.m. read more

The best place to stay in Solvang hands down. Perfectly situated close to all shopping and restaurants. We splurged on the Junior King Suite and were very happy. It was large and well-appointed, with two TVs, a comfortable sitting area, and a large bathroom. There was also plenty of closet space. The suite had a door out to the courtyard, where there was comfortable seating and firepits. A great bakery is across the courtyard. The artwork by Rachel Brown displayed throughout is terrific, and we bought a print for home. Mad & Vin is the hotel's restaurant. We had dinner once and were pleased. It has good service, a decent wine list, a quiet ambiance, and solid food. The mushroom-laden bucatini was generous in size and tasty but suffered from a little too much sauce. The salmon was generous and well-cooked, and the broccolini was great. Parking is easy and worth $20 a night, as street parking is limited and busy. My only nit is that the mattress was too soft and the pillows were not great. read more

We were extremely pleased with our stay. We were blown away with their customer service even before we arrived. They reached out to us a week prior to our arrival for an upgrade option at no additional cost due to repairs going on in the building we originally booked. Now that's proactive! Everything about this place was above what we expected. The grounds and the decor was spot on! The building and rooms have great character, especially with our Dutch door to the courtyard. We stayed in room 51 and loved loved loved it!!! Happy hour great value but also extremely delicious. We took advantage of the fire pits multiple times. Nice touch they provide you with a wine passport which has amazing 2-1 tasting offers. We absolutely are raving about this hotel to everyone that will listen. A++ for location, right in the middle of everything although Solvang generally is not that big and most hotels in the general vicinity are within walking distance. Updated/modern decor, great lobby area. You also get a wine tasting card to get alot of 2 for 1 deals in the area which we took advantage of. The only downsides are that the rooms can be a bit dark and could use some additional lighting (at least for the regular deluxe rooms), and the walls are pretty thin and they have wood floors in the rooms so you tend to hear very loud noises or people walking upstairs. At one point we heard a very loud humming noise in the early morning hours right next to our room for at least 10 minutes and right when we were about to call the front desk, it stopped. read more

We really enjoyed our stay in the Deluxe King room! The room was spacious and even had a small sitting area. The hotel itself was really well decorated, updated, and modern which can be hard to find in Solvang. Some not-so-ideal things we had were that the handle on the tub was broken off so we had to be gentle and the shelf under the sink looked like it hadn't been dusted in a while. From grabbing an extra chair for hair and makeup to assisting wedding guests with timing for transportation, we cannot thank the Landsby enough for making our wedding weekend absolutely perfect! read more

Our tasting at Roblar was followed by lunch here. Purely accidental. We didn't know where to eat so we walked around and checked out the menu displayed outside all the restaurants we passed. This was the one that stood out. We asked to be seated outside, but the moment we sat down, all the petals were showering us so Darren (I think that was his name) suggested we sit on the other side (patio) if we didn't want to sit inside. We took his word and let him take the wheel. The back patio is indeed beautiful. And the best part is there were nothing getting on us. We decided to share the ceviche and each got a burger. This week has been basically burger week for me. Everyone who took me out for a birthday meal decided to pick a burger joint. The ceviche was out of this world. Dare I say it was the best one I've had in at least the last 5 years. The avocado was a nice touch. The taste was just right. The burger was perfectly cooked and the fries were just the right amount of crunchy. Their ketchup was also fuego. As was the mayo or whatever that was that came out with the ketchup. Those two condiments were the reason why I ate all the fries. Great service too. We were checked on the right amount of times and no one hovered. Great find. I'll definitely drop in again next time instead of having beer and sausages elsewhere. read more

My first visit to Solvang and staying at The Landsby did not disappoint. I'm all about charm and history but I definitely wanted to stay at a hotel that was modern and up to date compared to some other Inns in the area. We stayed in room #20 which is a Deluxe room with 2 queens beds. We couldn't believe the space of this room and how beautiful it was designed. I will say the walls are thin but this corner room was pretty quiet towards the night time. The staff was so nice, we really felt welcomed and so accommodating. The best part about this hotel is the bar and restaurant. Absolutely delicious. Our bartender Freddy made some incredible cocktails for my mom and I. You also have to get the duck fat french fries. Thick cut, not greasy and perfectly crispy. We had reservations to eat dinner but I was enjoying my time at the bar watching the NFL playoffs. The manager of Mad & Vin was totally cool with us ordering dinner in the bar area. They also have a happy hour daily, which could end up being a meal of its own. I would definitely stay here again when I make my visit up to Solvang in the future. read more

The location is great, right in the middle of town and walkable to everything. But the noise issues are very real and the price for what you get is way overpriced, especially on a holiday weekend. The staff are all very friendly and responsive, and try to help. The noise: the windows are single pane in a lot of cases so you get street noise and regular people talking. The footfall is horrible, there is no insulation between floors, we didn't hear our neighbors next door at least. The beds are horribly uncomfortable, pillows too, and they know it. They are soft and at this point very worn out. Also, the entire bed is squeaky even if you just get up or rollover, never mind the other stuff, which no one wants to hear, and with poor insulation, I'm sure they did. The amenities are also not great, no room service, pool, hot tub, or gym on the premises. They charge for self-parking, not sure why. Originally we booked the balcony king, we got room #12. The room was an OK size, but nothing premium about it. No real sitting area, poor lighting, tiny bathroom with shower and toilet behind the door, while the sink was exposed and the balcony was a Juliet balcony. We paid $459 for this room, ridiculous. We did have water issues and they moved us to a Junior Suite, room #53. It was a very large room with a whole separate sitting area, large bathroom, separate shower, and tub. We had a semi private patio and exit to the courtyard. But not very modern, or nice touches. The shower was not adjustable, no real charging areas for our phones or laptops. As a premium hotel, they could have complimentary wine, better towels, charging docks, pillow menu. The restaurant should be serving local jams and cream with coffee, not Smuckers and packaged fake creamers. The truth is I'm not sure what other places in town would be better. We needed a dog friendly hotel. If they fix the noise and beds could be a great place. read more
