The Sox started at 7:10, and the time was 5:45pm, I had serious doubts about being able to get in and out of any eating establishment in the vicinity of Fenway in that amount of time, but Landsdowne Pub not only delivered, they hit a home run with bases loaded. Even though the place was packed, we were greeted right away at the hostess stand and told the wait would be about 10-15 minutes. After exchanging an ID as hostage for the table buzzer, we went to the bar to grab a drink while waiting for our table. Even though the bar was full, once we were in the vicinity of a bartender, they made sure to acknowledge us over the people sitting at the bar, which meant we got our drinks within minutes. Sure enough, in 13 minutes our table was ready and we were seated outside. While it wasn't impossible to talk inside, it was definitely much easier to have a conversation at an outdoor table. The menu boasted a decent selection of Irish Pub fare with sandwiches around $10 and dinners around $20, but what the menu didn't fully reveal was how deliciously gourmet everything was! I ordered a simple grilled cheese and was pleasantly surprised to find a truly unique homemade brown bread, almost cornbread, thick and dense wrapped around melted cheddar. The tomato chutney was a sweet and chunky compliment that I couldn't ignore after one taste. Wow, it's obvious the chef cares about this food. Another college bar...in Boston? Shocker! ATMOSPHERE: Loud and drunk... their clientele is here to get hammered. DRINKS: reasonable drafts are a must, as many of their patrons do not yet have jobs. I went here on a Saturday night and here's what I saw: Ed Hardy Shirts, A guy in a wifebeater undershirt, a 90s cover band (which was actually good), and what can only be described as an explosion of Boston undergrads and Boston Townies. I absolutely love pubs, but the social experience here just isn't my taste. I'm a grad student, so I would probably feel better about this place if I was still in undergrad, or in my early 20s.... So I completely recommend this place if you're going out with a "I just turned 21 and want to make tons of mistakes!" kind of crowd.... I went to this bar and was kicked out for stepping onto the DJ stage which I 100% agree I should not have done. However, the way in which the bouncers/security of this bar reacted is EXTREMELY violent, dangerous and unnecessary. I was with my girlfriend and we were pushed through 2 rooms and into the kitchen and out the back door by 4 security guards even though we agreed to leave on our own and were walking to the front door. Then, as we were pushed into the kitchen, one of the security guards threw my tiny 5'4" girlfriend to the floor. The chefs and kitchen crew did nothing to react to this so I was facing 4 massive security guards and could do nothing about the situation as we were forcefully pushed into the alleyway behind the pub. We were able to leave from there, but not before one of the security guards said to my girlfriend that if we didn't hurry up "it would be our last night alive". This type of behavior is HORRIBLE and I thought maybe we were just an unusual circumstance, but reading these other reviews on Yelp has shown that this is repetitive behavior from the security team there and has happened to many people before us. I went there for their Oyster Fest. Live music and $1 Oyster!!! It's a super good deal that I cant wait to try. We had oyster and drinks. The oyster selection includes Duxbury: From Duxbury Bay, MA, it's more salty and you can smell the sea but after that is creamy. It's tender but somehow crunchy; Malpeque: from Prince Edward Island in Canada. It's small and sweet with sharp mineral taste; Virginia: it came from Cherrystone Creek in Florida. the biggest size among three. Firm and creamy. Oysters were pretty fresh. It's a good deal of $1 each. There was live music but played too loudly. Oh my what a happening and fun place. Wife had potato skins (no green onions) and I had the sliders. Wife and I shared and we agreed best sliders we have ever had and dang good potato skins (not skimpy on bacon either). Love the people working there. Friendly bunch. Stopped here before going to the House of Blues, the place has a well rounded menu at affordable prices (something I was surprised to see given the Fenway area). Service at first was pretty spotty - especially for a Saturday evening, initially there was no hostess or waitress, we just ended up seating ourselves. Fortunately staff seemed to come together shortly after that and service was quick, friendly, and efficient. I ended up getting the Bangers and Mash, my wife the Portabello Mushroom Grilled cheese, the food was absolutely delicious and well portioned for the price. While we did not have any drinks they seemed to have a well rounded (and priced) beer selection. Overall, if you need to stop by for a bite to eat before heading to an event in the area - I'd recommend it. read more

An individual who carries himself as the "head of security" (which I'm doubtful about anyways) grabs my arm while I'm walking into the pub for my second time ever and says "you know the drill right"? This was quite possibly the worst bar I have been to in Boston. The service is rude and unaccommodating. They removed drinks which were not nearly finished from the table without asking and the staff was extremely unprofessional. This might have flown under the radar if their food was good, but it was just like any other typical bar (frozen and then microwaved). Stopped in here for some drinks prior to going to a concert at Fenway. There were plenty of tables open but the host was hesitant to seat us unless we committed to ordering meals. After a bit of back and forth they agreed to seat us in the back area and we ordered drinks and some appetizers. 4 star review based on the bar scene only. I don't think I've ever had food here. Lansdowne is a great spot to go to after a RedSox game. If you can get in somewhat early, you can get a decent spot in the bar. The bar is pretty large and opens up right before the games ends and when the dinner crew is leaving. They always have live music on Friday and Saturdays and they have a bar up front which is huge, a bar in the back, and they also have bottles of budweiser to purchase up front if you have cash and don't want to wait in line. They have a loyalty card program which helps you cut the line and not pay cover, plus you get to bring a guest. I've probably been here 50 times and it's consistently the same environment and type of night. If you're not from around Boston and come in for a Sox game, I'd definitely recommend checking out Lansdowne. read more

Sat at the bar ready for a drink, get some food and watch the Sox game. Sat at the bar immediately, got in a drink order and served immediately. After that, our server managed to vanish. We had to ask her if they could change one of the tv to the Sox vs Yankees game because it's Boston...baseball and any Yankees vs Red Sox game is necessary. I'm the easiest person to please when it comes to bars/restaurants and am willing to overlook a lot of things. In fact, this is my first time writing a review (especially a negative review) for a restaurant, possibly ever. But it's long, and it's one star, so you know I put some thought into it. As a TL;DR: this place has earned the one star, and you should take your business somewhere else. I certainly will after the experience that my friends and I had. We reserved a group of 15, two weeks in advance, for a going-away party for our roommate. Landsdowne had the reservation on file, and sent multiple confirmation texts leading up to the evening. Surely we must be good to go, ready for an evening to send off our dear friend, right? Wrong, so wrong. We showed up at our time (7 pm on Saturday), and they wouldn't even let us in the door. The bouncers were unnecessarily rude and abrasive, which from the other reviews here, sounds par for the course. When a staff member finally came outside, they told us that the pub had booked a private party until 8 pm, that they were at capacity, and that there was nothing they could do. Meanwhile, music was blaring from the inside as a herd of 100-200 drunk sorority girls and their dates danced their hearts out and screamed along to Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl." I imagine they had been at it for a few hours at this point, and I venture to say that there had been enough time for more than a few girls to be kissed. It was also plenty of time for the pub to send one of their notification texts: "We're sorry, but we determined that it was more profitable to entertain the local university for the evening than keep your reservation of 15 made two weeks ago." I'd give them the benefit of the doubt - times are tough, after all, and in a big city like this, who cares about a party of 15? We'd even have time to reserve somewhere else and coordinate a change of plans. And yet, there we were. Honestly, good for the sorority girls, and good for the pub choosing the more profitable option. But boy, did we feel played. This was the first major screw-up. By some miracle, after 15 minutes convincing them of our reservation with ample proof, we were shown into a tiny room in the corner of the pub, where there weren't enough tables to seat our party, and (perhaps unsurprisingly at this point) nothing had been set up in advance. The room was connected directly to the rest of the pub by a doorless archway, so there was no separation from the aforementioned "herd." Clearly, this was not part of the plan. Oh, and the music was blaring. Britney Spears now - so loud that you couldn't hear the person next to you even if they were shouting. No staff member acknowledged us for twenty minutes, let alone took a drink order. Finally, a poor waitress (I've been there, girl) came along and tried to order drinks over the blaring chorus of WAP that now rattled every bone of your body. At this point, we couldn't do anything but look at each other and laugh as our hopes of a going-away dinner had vanished and all that was left was the resolve to see things out. After all, it's evenings like this that you never forget. This was the second major screw-up. We managed to salvage the evening by baring the brunt of the sorority party while eating our pub food (which I will say was decent, if overpriced...hard to screw up nachos). The "private party" died down about twenty minutes after 8, and the music was lowered from "permanent hearing loss likely" to a more manageable "temporary hearing loss probable." Here comes the third and final major screw-up: the bar did nothing to apologize for our terrible experience - no discount, no apology from a staff member...nothing to make up for our ruined evening or express an ounce of remorse. Our friend leaves town this week, and I suppose we have one last memory of shared adversity to look back on ("Remember your send-off party at that one place? LOL.") The fact of the matter is that one small evening (however special we hoped it would be) doesn't matter, that we are just one party of 15, and that this place will continue to get business from countless Fenway merry-makers, college Greek-lifers, and families alike. Acknowledging the fact that they will never see this review buried deep in the Yelp comments (and reserve cautiously!), I sincerely hope that those people enjoy their experience at Landsdown pub more than we did. However, suffice this all to say that I will not be back. read more

Horrible experience here. I checked my coat into coat check with two ignorant and stubborn young women. When I went back at the end of the night, my jacket was no where to be found and they told me that it was already gone. When I spoke to the manager, Ben Hamilton, he told me he would pay me the money for my coat. He then lied and said he sent the check to my house which never came and when I asked when to expect it, he never answered. I tried calling and he would dismiss my calls. There was a Sox game also that night but the game was already well underway upon our arrival. The restaurant was not busy. Bar was full but tables were only about 20% occupied. We were promptly seated but we were not visited by a waitress for a solid 10 minutes. At this point we'd already all decided on our dinner selections so we placed drink and food order together. Had to wait an additional 10 minutes for drinks to arrive. My 2 friends ordered Jameson and Coke doubles but the drinks were double Coke and not on the whiskey. Additional table service continued to be slow. I'd estimate we'd have had at least another 1 if not 2 rounds if service was on par. Food arrived and was scant of toppings. 1 in our party had to request additional horseradish mayo for his prime rib burger as it had a nickel-sized dollop on it. I also ordered a side of ranch to go with my fries that never came. The burgers were cooked just a tad too much but not worth mentioning. Fries were OK. If the restaurant was actually busy, the extensive wait times would be excusable but it wasn't even close. read more

I've been going to Landsdowne since I turned 21, in fact, I even celebrated my 21st here. I went to Northeastern and it was either Landsdowne or Cask if my friends and I wanted to let loose and make bad decisions. Drinks are decently priced and decently strong. I can't really comment on the food. Only recently, as a postgrad, have I gone here for food because it is the bar that everyone gathers after my bowling league commences. Landsdowne provides us with the same thing each week: popcorn chicken, potato skins, and grilled cheese. I assume the rest of the menu is basic, below average bar food. Go if you're looking for cheap and east fun. $5 cover and live band. read more

Ahh, the beloved Landsdowne Pub. If only they didn't overcrowd themselves every weekend (thus causing an impending threat of death every time I step foot in the door) I'd surely award them 5 stars. Like most other bars, whether or not I have fun at Landsdowne is entirely dependent on my mood that particular night. If I'm the least bit cranky or not in the mood to drink much, this certainly isn't my go-to spot because they simply do not know how to turn people away. They want to milk that $5 cover for all it's worth, no matter how on top of each other everyone is. I feel like it's a requirement to be giddily, bubbly drunk at this establishment, because you WILL get bumped into/stepped on by people twice your size, and someone will spill a drink down your shirt at LEAST once. That being said, there clearly hasta be some perks to committing to this place on a precious weekend night, right? Indeed. They usually have an awesome band playing great renditions of top-40 type stuff that's perfect to dance to (if you like that sorta thing). I'm not into the radio but I'll never be above dancing my socks off to such a band. Also, I'm a frequent pee-er, so the many-stalled bathrooms are perfect =) They have a good size bar with surprisingly friendly bartenders, and at $5 a Blue Moon, most of the prices ain't bad. But $10 a Jäger Bomb is outrageous!! All in all, if you love dancing with a large crew of friends, be sure to hit up Landsdowne on a Friday or Saturday night (or after a Sox game). If you don't, it's worth a try on a Thursday when there's no band or cover. With a few elbow-resting stations, I'd say it's a good atmosphere for all you single folk to meet people. This review is a long time coming. It's actually my first review so needless to say I'm a little nervous but I'd like to thank Lars D. for teaching me the YELP ropes. After a disappointing Red Sox loss my pal Kevin and I headed out to Lansdowne Street looking for the perfect place for a 'night cap'. We actually started at the Cask N Flagon but Kevin found it to be too quiet. To be honest I think he was looking for a' date' to my upcoming wedding but I went along with it and pounded my bud light so we could go to the next bar. When we walked by the Lansdowne Pub we heard some live music so decided to go in for a drink. Looking back we probably knew we were going in for more than one drink but you know the expression. On Thursday nights Lansdowne Pub has live band karaoke which we thought was a nice touch. As we ordered our second round of drinks I happen to notice that NESN's own Jenny Dell having a few drinks with her girlfriends a few barstools over us. I thought she would be the perfect wedding date for Kev and was about to introduce the two when he told me not to because they have conflicting horoscopes signs. I thought he was crazy but knew it was getting late so decided to call it a night and hail a cab to Beacon Hill. Now there wasn't a storybook ending with Kev and Jenny Dell and he is still looking for a date if my fellow yelpers have any suggestions but I can tell you Lansdowne Pub is a great place to go after a Sox game if you want to have fun and hangout with celebrity's. read more

We go here prior to shows at the house of blues byte drinks are strong and good. Many types of beer. Went this week and the had a complimentary cider station. There is often theme nights and fun things to do. It visually pleasing inside, typical Irish dark woods and stained glass. I always like when I can grab a seat at the cubby at the end of the bar, but this space can be used for private parties. The calamari is amazing, comes with garlic bread and is a must try. The Lansdowne has been on my list of places to visit for awhile and I was finally able to take a trip to this large venue right across from Fenway not once but twice within the same month. When you walk into Lansdowne you are captivated by the beautiful dark wood that makes up the bar, the booths, the overhead, etc. They have a spacious patio for those wonderful afternoons and evenings during the summer. They have a private room for meetings and other private gatherings with a separate bar. I actually know several bands that play here and have been meaning to catch them there during their residencies, but unfortunately I had missed most of them. Maybe I'll be able to catch one more band before their residency is up. Speaking of which, they have a pretty sweet set up for bands to play and the acoustics of the place is amazingly awesome. You can't miss a sweet beat no matter where you are in the 'downe even in the private room. The staff members here are extremely friendly, courteous, and do an excellent job! From servers to bartenders to expediters to host(esse)s, they all deserve a pat on the back for a job well done. They pay attention to details, are cheerful, and ensure that you are taken care of. We also found out that part of the servers training, they must learn the nutritional value (i.e. calories, alcohol content) of each beer on their menu as well as having tasted all the beers! Talk about knowledge is power! These guys don't mess around. What I love most about the 'downe is the middle countertop-island seating area right in front of the bar. It's crescent shaped and can seat people on either side, and is located right in between the stage and the bar for those there to enjoy a show. Oh and let's not forget the food. Ohhh... the food! The menu here while a lil on the pricey side is sooooo worth every penny. The chips (or fries to us Americans) with cheese is oozing with deliciousness. The chicken bites have a mild kick and perfectly cooked accompanied with a delicious blue cheese buffalo sauce. The warm cheese dip which comes with these amazing homemade potato chips are to die for! And if you have some time for a real meal, be sure to try out their Double Cut Pork Chop dinner! It is not only grilled to perfection in a cider pork sauce but it was huge and comes with 2 blue cheese potato cakes. Despite it's size, I devoured the entire plate! Just a Note for the Ladies: There are plenty of restrooms ladies! No need to fear long lines on a crowded evening. They are also clean! Oh yes and they have.... "THE X-CELERATOR"!!! I love that thing! So for those of you that haven't had a chance to check out The Lansdowne yet, make sure you get your hiney over there stat!!! You won't regret it! I went here on Friday for their grand opening. It made the experience very interesting. The pub actually smells new, like a new car, which is nice when most other pubs smell like human excrement. The staff was incredibly nice. Like, Disney World-nice. I felt like they were about to break out into "It's a Small World." My dinner date is a waitress at another Boston pub, and we were both so surprised at how friendly everyone was. I suppose they haven't been jaded yet by Red Sox fans. The wine and beer selection is pretty standard. We got a bottle of Four Sisters Sauvignon Blanc, which was a little too sweet. I got the Portobello Burger for my meal, and it was FANTASTIC. Maybe a little less blue cheese, but otherwise great. The menu has a lot of variety on it, and considering that they are so new, this is a promising thing. They love the goat cheese as well, it seemed to be on everything. I think the Lansdowne will find its own niche in the Fenway area. It's definitely very homey, and will be for the older, more laid back crowd. I couldn't picture going there for the sole purpose of getting obliterated while watching the game (that's what Game On and Cask 'N' Flagon are for). SO a lot of people see this as a place to go late on the weekend nights. And often time this is a good thing. Live music more often then not, and a half way decent crowd. Other people will see it simply as a place to waste time before or after a Red Sox game, in the shadows of the Green Monster.. and also, a good thing. But what people cant underestimate is food. From Sunday mornings eating a great Irish Breakfast with thick cut bacon while watching some Barclays premier league games, to dinner specials including Guinness Stew, shepards pie and meat loaf, it is worth going here for food as well! Yes, go on a non game night (or go at 8 pm on a game night, still not crowded since everyone is in the park), and dont go to late (the crow chang over starts around 930-10 pm) But go and try the food, enjoy some local live music, and be happy you did! read more

So I was here with a group of 7 friends Saturday night, and this group included a gay couple. We were all having a generally good time, when the bouncer watching from the stage walks directly up to the gay couple and tells them they have to leave. The rest of us were in disbelief watching this happen. The excuse was that they were 'too drunk'. Keep in mind that this is 1am on a Saturday night in Lansdowne - there are people hooking up and tripping on the floor every direction you look. There was just no way this was not targeted. Now this isn't a one-star review. Lansdowne is generally a fun bar to go to on weekend nights, and the cover bands are usually decent. I just hope that the management takes the complaints we made that night seriously and makes sure nobody has to experience this type of treatment again. read more

I have a love/hate relationship with The Lansdowne. I love that it's not in Faneuil Hall, that the cover is only $5, and that they have live bands to dance to (said bands are often hilarious too). What I hate is that the bar gets beyond crowded on the weekend and you find yourself throwing 'bows just to stay on your feet. A trip to the bar or bathroom is an epic adventure. And maybe the worst thing is that the bathrooms seem to flood like clockwork on these nights. The entire floor will be covered by an inch of "water" and if you're wearing anything short of hiking boots, good luck not slipping. It's gross to say the least. I wish The Lansdowne would get stricter about capacity, that might alleviate some of the issues. But until then, I'll probably be back- where else can I see Guzzle play?! read more

Came to the bar this past weekend. My experience not only strengthened my dislike for this place, but I will never go back. As I stated in my previous review place gets crowded. Not only was the place extremely crowded once again, but to the point where I basically had dudes rubbing up against me all night long. Why does this place insist on keeping tables at night? Move them so people have room to walk or don't allow so many people in. You walk into this place and you can smell the testosterone in the air. Place is just aching for a fight to happen because everyone is stepping all over each other just to get from the bar to the bathroom. They cram everyone in there like cattle and at the same time have security walking through every 5 seconds doing patrols. Lastly, a friend of mine was inappropriately grabbed by some guy. Long story short I told the guy to get lost and then the guy shows up with 3 of friends after to start a fight. The security swooped in and tossed me out. It is understandable they are trying to relieve any tension in the bar, but the problem is they didn't throw out the other guys. Why throw out 4 drunk Yankees fans and instead throw out the Red Sox fan. Tisk Tisk Lansdowne. I have been coming here for years but now you are no longer my backup Fenway bar if you support things like that. read more

Came here to watch the Pats and we had a great time. HUGE projection screen with High Def signal provided a great view. Good selection of drafts including one of my favorites, Carlsberg. The server was exceptionally nice and the food we had was very, very good. I tried the cheese dip, chicken bites and had a bowl of Irish Stew. Before anything else, just accept the fact that this bar is rowdy, somewhat douchey, and a place for people who just turned (or like to act) 21. Once you get over those facts, you will have a grand time. I came here with a few friends up from NYC (GASP) and we wanted to stop by Fenway at night and take in the sights. I'm not totally sure how we ended up here as I wasn't leading the group, but I was pretty hesitant at first. Once I had a drink in hand, I was less annoyed by the sloppy youngins. Many shots and beverages later, my group joined in the sloppiness. But whatever, we had a grand time. Also, they should work on cleaning up spilled beverages better (or whatever is all over their concrete) so people like me don't take a wrong step on the way to the bathroom and slip and fall like a cool kid.... read more
