Terrible Customer service. Very rude. Would not give us a straight answer on if we could get a table or not. Very disappointing

Absolutely avoid this bar. I (a 115 pound girl) was thrown out with unnecessary force. The situation was extremely unprofessional. The host was extremely rude and I was trying to joke with her and she was abusing her power to have me thrown out. I had no problem leaving but the security guard who decided to throw me out was calling names such as transgender and creating a way worse situation. Once I left, I hear my sister was throw out using force as well and he throw the drink she just bought at her. She was minding her own business with the rest of our friends inside but he thought she was me so he starting to do the same things to her, being overly physical and calling her names. I could go on but just avoid if possible. I would never support a business who has people who think it's okay to physically assault women and call them horrible slurs. read more

Bouncers were utterly useless, incompetent, unprofessional and cowardly. My friend gave the first bouncer his LEGIT ID and the bouncer took a really long time examining it with his eyes. He then handed it to another bouncer at the back and the second guy confiscated it claiming that it was a fake (again, no machine check, just eyes). Said the only way to get it back was to call the police. We asked for the non-emergency number so we wouldn't waste resource on something as insignificant as a confiscated ID, but he said just call 911 and refused to assist. SO WE DID, and told the police that the bouncer confiscated a legitimate ID and insisted we call 911 instead of the non-emergency number, while the bouncer was yelling how my friend would never be able to enter any bar on the block because "his boss owns them all" and he's notified every bouncer already, even though we were literally right next door 2 minutes ago. When we told him the cops were coming, he immediately humbled and dropped the attitude, stuttering "you guys are so sure about his ID so maybe I should believe you guys" and proceeded to BEG US to "cancel" the call as if 911 was an Uber ride. Like, what were you even trying to do? Intimidate us? Brag about your boss? Dude, your inability to recognize an ID from another state and your ineptitude to perform well at your job is your problem. Don't involve the cops as an intimidation tactic when we have all the ground to stand on and have your tail between your legs when we follow your suggestion. read more

If you have an out of state ID, do not go here. Their ID machine does not recognize out of state ID's and it will come back as fake. They will then take your ID and not give it back until the police arrive to confirm that it is real. I spoke with an officer who stated this has happens almost nightly with them. Reading some of the other reviews of this place, I guess I should be glad my husband and I had such a great experience. We actually went twice back in September during a Sox/Yanks series. We stopped in for a pre-game beer one day and took a look at the menu while we were there. Saw a couple of things we were interested in so we decided to stop in the next day for some pre-game munchies. Glad we did! We had to settle for indoor seating since we'd gotten there a bit too late to wait for a patio table, but no biggie. The wait wasn't bad and it wasn't overly crowded. Ordered a couple of Brick Reds because, well, we can't get it at home so we get it as much as we can while we're in Boston. It really is a damn good beer. We opted for a couple of appetizers to share instead of getting meals - had to leave room for more beer! While the Pub Sliders were damn good, those frickin' frackin' Corned Beef & Cabbage Spring Rolls were RIDICULOUS!!! We'll definitely be back for more pre-gaming in the future. While I can't imagine going here during late night clubbing hours, if I ever want to pretend I'm in my early twenties again, get groped by college kids, watch some hot messes or, well, just be a hot mess myself, thanks to you other Yelpers I know where to go to do it! read more

Went here for Friends Trivia about a month ago. The food was okay as usual. The event was not planned well-- it was less of a live trivia event and more of a questionnaire with 10 questions that you get when you sit down and hand in when you leave. You put your email at the top of your "trivia" sheet. I know for a fact that I got all the questions right as I've watched each episode 30 times and checked the answers after I left (honor system!), but I was never contacted. I don't know if a winner was ever selected-- it seemed like just a gimmick to get people in the door rather than a true Friends fan experience. Which would be fine if the food were better and we didn't take 2 buses to get there just as it started to rain. They had Friends on in the background, which was the only saving grace of the event, but if they had advertised the event as a "Friends Watch Party" I would have been less disappointed in my expectations and still probably would have attended. read more

I was meeting 3 friends to attend a concert at MGM Music Hall. We don't go to Lansdowne St often. I looked at Google and randomly picked this place to meet because of it's proximity to MGM. I arrived at 6 PM. It was a Tuesday, no events at Fenway, but the general area was still crowded because of the concert. I walked inside to look for my friends but they weren't there yet, so I stepped outside again to look for them. When I went to go back inside, a rude bouncer suddenly appeared and stopped me, and asked for my ID (I am 45!). I said "Oh, sorry. You weren't here when I went in before so I didn't know you were checking IDs". He said "Yes I was". Obviously he wasn't because I was already inside. I should have known something was off about the place because there were only about 20 customers in there, all sitting at the bar. The place was extremely dark while the sun was still out. It was decorated for Halloween the day after Labor Day (early September). Someone else sitting at the bar pointed out that they still had Christmas wreaths hanging on the front walls. It was 90 degrees outside and even hotter inside. No air conditioning. There were two bartenders that I saw, and it took a long time and me waving frantically to finally get a drink. When my friends arrived, I paid for my drink and asked the bartender if it was OK to carry my drink outside to our patio table (where we were going to eat before the concert). He said yes, but then the rude bouncer stopped me again as if I was doing something wrong. He said I wasn't allowed to carry my drink around. I told him I asked the bartender and he said I could. The bouncer took my drink away and put it on a barrel that was in the foyer area and said my server would bring it to me after I was seated. So now I can't see my unattended drink in the doorway and that made me nervous. When a waitress came to our patio table I had to tell her that my drink was left in the doorway area. I didn't want it anymore, even though I had paid for it. We are not large people, but the high top chairs out front were tiny, metal, and had sloped backs so all of us were slipping off. We basically had to stand. Food was not great. The ladies room floors were sticky. I'm sure this place makes money on the college crowd, but as an adult with better options, I would not go back. read more

We were down at Mohegan, and stopped by The Lansdowne Pub to enjoy a featured drink, "The Perfect Manhattan," that you had on a board outside. It was in the men too. The server informed us that you were not serving the drink because you were out of Bitters. My husband and I laughed. Why didn't you go borrow from another establishment, send an employee to purchase some, or take down the signs? It is amazing the lack of professionalism in the industry nowadays. read more

New to Boston and my first time to lansdowne. Had been recommended by friends so I was excited to try. After waiting in line for about 40, I bought a Lineleap cause I realized that's what some people were doing. No problem. Once I finally get to the bouncer they tell me my ID is fake. It's not. So after waiting an hour and paying $25 I don't get in. The bouncers / management weren't helpful when I tried talking to them to explain this is my legitimate ID. Super unhelpful and honestly just totally killed the vibe of my night as me and my group then left after having been waiting for so long. Do better read more

My brother-in-law and I generally go to Landsdowne Pub every time we are in the Fenway Park area but it is a must for Saint Patrick's weekend. We have been going there for more years than we can remember and this year was another great experience. We go there multiple times over the course of the weekend and every time the experience is top-notch. The hosts/hostesses have always treated us like family visiting from out of town. Despite the chaos of the weekend, the servers managed to be extremely attentive to our needs, ensuring that we're never holding an empty glass, they know how to do a proper pour of Guinness and do so even when it's insanely busy. The bands and other entertainment are phenomenal. We had another great Saint Patrick's weekend and have already started talking about next year. read more

Terrible experience yesterday that sounds A LOT like many other pre-Sox game reviews of this place. First off, I was invited as part of a Red Sox Season Ticket holder event and attended with my wife and infant daughter. We enjoyed brunch at the neighboring Bill's (same owner), and promptly at 11 am they shuffled us into Landsdowne Pub where the Sox had told us we were welcome until game time. As one of the first patrons in there, we scoped out a corner booth where we could enjoy a couple beverages while our daughter rested before the game. It had also started to pour, and gametime was still two hours away. Server greeted us, took an order of two drinks, and said they'd keep it open. Shortly afterwards a super rude hostess came and told us we couldn't sit there. I asked why not, as we had an assigned service and open ticket, and she pretty much walked away. 5 or so minutes later she returned, and said "you need to leave if you're not ordering anything". I said "no problem", and asked for a menu. The brunch was light and we wanted a couple apps and another round before the game anyway. Caught in her bluff, the hostess then said if we wanted to do that we'd still have to switch tables. I advised her that we got there first, and wanted the quietest booth because our 1-year old was asleep, and she continued being super rude and just stormed off and came back with the check. I understand you only have so many tables, and want big checks in the small opportunity you have before gametime- but you make the money when the regulars, the season ticket holders you INVITED, come back game after game. Instead, you infuriate them, make them unwelcome, and literally kick them and their infant out into the rain. Nice work... read more

I think A-OK sums it up pretty well, as my experience can best be described as "Solid". This particular time I was there with my bowling league team on a Sunday afternoon. There was hardly a soul in the restaurant, which is not surprising, considering the day and time, and since while brunch is a thing, linner (lunch + dinner) is not. I ended up ordering the buffalo chicken tenders as a main course dish. I wasn't spectacularly hungry, and I did not want to fill myself upon this particular time. I was very pleasantly surprised at the quality of the dish. I was expecting something smothered in buffalo sauce, messy, spicy, with the sauce being the only thing I could taste. This was not the case... The tenders were cooked perfectly, they were actually tender, with just the right amount of crispness. The buffalo sauce was also fairly mild, and while there was certainly enough of it to add flavor, the tenders weren't swimming in it. It was more a coating than anything else really. I also appreciated the bleu cheese dipping sauce that came with the dish. Like the buffalo, it was fairly mild and un-overpowering, I also liked the tiny bit of chunkiness found with this sauce. Celery was celery, but, it did add a nice freshness and crispness to the dish! Overall, the meal was very good, while I wouldn't write a letter home about it, I might mention it when I call home. Alright, then why only three stars? There were two points that took away from the experience. The first was the service... While it was very polite, I felt it could have been a touch more attentive, especially considering that the restaurant had very few other people. In terms of speed, while there were six people in my party, and one person ordered a burger (takes a while to cook, I know) I again felt with the amount of people here, it could have been a little faster. While the music was quite good, and I would not be against hearing these folks again, the second point is the loudness of the music. Please do not get me wrong, I have nothing against loud live music in a restaurant. The loudness of the music, especially where we were seated was borderline unpleasant by itself. The issue was it was impossible to hear what anyone at my table was saying. If this were a busy evening with plenty of hustle and bustle, this volume would be appropriate, and I'd have no issue. However, with it being an afternoon, and nearly no one being here, having it played at a more reasonable volume would not hurt. read more

My first ever bad review. What a moment. One of many firsts in my life. Speaking of which, I just turned 21 a few weekends ago. Lots of hub-ub around 21. Lots of "so how does it feel to have your FIRST drink? wink wink nudge nudge" from family members and co-workers. Hahahaha, gets funnier every time I hear it. So of course, I've been hitting the local watering holes to see what I've been trying to get into illegally all these years. Like Alice, I've fallen down a rabbit hole into a magical world. Beer flows like water, people dance and sing on sticky floors, and everything bad in the outside world seems to melt away in a foggy haze. So I went with a few friends to Lansdowne, a local favorite I've heard a lot about. $5 cover, totally normal as I've come to learn. I show off my un-expired passport to the bouncers and walk in, ready to shake hands the Mad Hatter and take a tour of Wonderland. Little did I know, we were walking into the Queen of Hearts castle. Let me give Lansdowne this, it is a nice bar. Large, open space with some great live music. Prices are normal and there's lots of space to move around. Seemingly the perfect sort of place for a night out on the town. Anyways, we immediately approach the bar, and the woman there tells my friend that seltzers are "free" tonight. We all look at each other in shock. "Free?" my friend asks and the bartender nods and says "Free". Now we aren't seltzer-fans but free is free. So we take our seltzers and walk away from the bar. I crack mine open and make it about 15 steps into the bar when one of the Queen's Knights (bouncers) approaches and demands that we pay for the seltzers. "We were told they're free" we exclaim. "No they were three" the treacherous mixologist explained, rubbing her hands together menacingly while adjusting her top hat and monocle. The Queen's Knight (bouncer) goes on the power trip of his life, rips the opened seltzer out of my hand and throws it back on ice and tells us that we are the ones trying to run some sort of spiked seltzer-ponzi scheme. So being the upstanding citizens we are, we paid the $3 after a bit of an argument (I should mention that they gave us new seltzers, not the ones we already opened that were taken away from us, so at least we got the last laugh I guess). Now, I don't mean to get all Alex Jones right now, but what person when talking about price says "three" instead of "three DOLLARS" when asked for clarification about a price. Almost makes me want to put on a tinfoil hat, filter the fluoride out of my water, and declare that this bartender purposely said this in a loud bar KNOWING that people would misunderstand, take one, open it, then magically owe $3.00. So be cautious out there in wonderland, because one pill will make you smaller and the other pill may be something nobody wants to buy so the bar gets rid of it by tricking people into thinking it's "free", then flips and demands "THREE" from you. Well I got three fingers for this place, they just got to read between the lines to see it. read more

I have come here many times for many different reasons and they never disappoint. Love that they host all different types of events including drag brunches, bands, and trivia nights. My personal favorite is when they host a live band since the dance floor is always electric. Service is always superb and the food is always top notch, brunch is my personal favorite. My only word of caution is they too get very busy when there is something at Fenway given their close proximity. read more

Steer clear-- we tried this place last night before the Red Sox game and I've never had a worse experience with a server. Meal started off normally enough-- we got a round of beers and ordered some wings as an app. They weren't spectacular but I can't complain. We then put in entree orders. The pulled pork sandwich was good, however, the turkey sandwich was dry and lacked flavor. All in all, at this point the three of us are satisfied with the food, service and overall experience. The issue came when we were finishing up our food and the server abruptly dropped the check. We asked to buy another round while we were working on finishing up our meals, and were told by the server that we needed to stand up by the bar if we were "just going to drink" because they were on a wait. Now, I understand that she wanted to flip the table and make money, but I take offense to being rushed out of a restaurant before I've even finished my food, especially considering our tab was a well over $100 at this point. Here's the kicker: our friend got out of work and joined us just moments after the waitress tried to rush us out. Mind you, we still had plenty of food on our plates and had been denied another round of beer! My friend sat down and asked to order an entree, to which we were told that we needed to go "behind the rail" which was basically a dark crevice in the corner of the bar. We were all pretty taken aback to have been treated so poorly trying to spend more money. Eventually the waitress got her way-- we got fed up and took our business next door to Chunky Monkey (which I highly recommend). The bottom line: unless you want to shovel down your food in record time to make way for the next paying customer, avoid Landsdowne. read more

3.5 STARS : 85% rating "For the love of Boston," is what the beer glass said. And for the love of Boston, I am sharing my two experiences in the City's Lansdowne Pub. The Lansdowne Pub was the right place at the right time. After seeing the Gogo's perform next store in the House of Blues which is across the street from Fenway Park Home of the Boston Red Sox, we were up for a post concert cold one. In the late hours of a weeknight after the House of Blues cleared up and the vicinity of Fenway Park was a ghost town, we walked a few feet along Lansdowne Street inside a historic building that housed Lansdowne Pub. At this time of night the outside patio seats overlooking Fenway Park and the Green Monster were empty. The Lansdowne Pub that is a happening spot to see bands on weekend nights was practically all ours. In the large dimly lit spaces of the pub we seated ourselves at the end of the long bar that would of been at home in Ireland. "Take pride in your beer." That was what another fairly large beer glass read. Lansdowne Pub seems to be taking pride in their beer with a fairly large selection poured in a relatively large glass. They offer 15 choices of bottle, 12 choices of draft, and 21 choices of cans. Additionally they serve wine. Being in Boston, I went for a draft Sam Adams. After a highly energetic day filled with hiking through the North End, walking around Fenway, and rocking to a Gogos concert, the beer served the purpose of making me sleepy. The quiet and dimly lit pub and restaurant with classic rock playing at a white noise level was making me sleepy. If I had another one I'd probably be dreaming that Sam Adams just walked in the pub. At the time of the sleepy late weeknight visit, we caught a glimpse of their food menu. It was decided that we would return in the afternoon before the Boston Red Sox verse New York Yankees game. When we returned to the Landsdowne Pub during the afternoon of the baseball game, it the difference between night and day. The patio seats were filled up with people taking in the crowds of Red Sox fans. A pub and restaurant that had been ours a few nights ago now had a bouncer controlling customer traffic into the door. The long bar was filled and we just managed to get a table. Let me say a few words about their menu. It is a diverse menu with entrees including fish & chips, macaroni and cheese, oysters, and pan seared salmon. It is a menu serving sandwiches such as the Pub burger, prime rib, and steak & cheese. The menu also features an all day Irish breakfast. Right off the bat I was decided on the Pub burger. Do you want to know why? It is because from my experience pubs serve some of the best burgers I have ever savored. This Pub burger might not be up there with the best, however, it was good. Visualizing the plate shaped as a circle, 50% of the portion to the right was the French fries. The bottom left was the lower bun, melted cheddar cheese, and two strips of bacon criss crossed. The top part of the plate was the top bun, tomato, onions, and lettuce. Off the plate all this food tasted good when I was eating it. It tasted better with a glass of Samuel Adams. For the love of Boston and Yelp, I recommend Landsdowne Pub & Restaurant for a cold one or two before and pub food. It is a convenient spot to do just that in the shadow of Fenway Park and the House of Blues. read more

The Lansdowne Pub has a great selection of different types of food. The atmosphere is lively, and you have a live band playing Irish style music as you enjoy your food! Really lives up to the name and gives you a new and interesting experience. I came for the brunch, during which they have $1 oysters. Pretty fresh oysters--they were delicious and juicy, and definitely not fishy tasting at all. Would definitely recommend! They have two types, one is the larger and more plump, while the other is salty and smaller. Personally, I liked the larger more plump ones because they were more mild and had more meat. I also got the Chicken Confit & Vegetable Hash for brunch, which was absolutely delicious. It's a vegetable hash with chicken on it, and sunny side up eggs. It was so good. It had a slightly sweet taste to it, which really made the dish perfect and the flavors come together very nicely. Would definitely recommend! Overall, really like this place; servers are friendly, and you do get a unique and memorable experience. Apparently on Mondays, there are also great deals--$1 wings, $5 burgers, and $1 oysters, so be sure to check that out! read more

Lansdowne will be remembered as the place for my 1st clubbing experience. It's a no-go zone. 2 guys from our group of 10+ wore sneakers and shorts despite multiple warnings there was a dress code, so we couldn't get into Gypsy. As good friends, we sucked it up and migrated down to Fenway so the entire party could stick together. No dress code, dress as low key as you want. $5 cover fee. There was crowd control so security wouldn't let you in until a certain number of peeps exited. There's 2 bars, one in the dining/stage area where live bands play and another in a separate room for clubbing. Clubbing room is suffocatingly hot. There's little to no air circulation so everyone is drenched in sweat by the end of the night. Stale air was gross. Every 30 minutes or so, we'd get out into the main area for fresh air. Where is the air-con! Drinks are in plastic cups, broken glass control understandably. The floor is gross by the end of the night--a layer of mixed drinks + dirt. Lovely. Can't imagine how the gentleman's white shirt turned out when he did the 'snake' move on the floor. I dropped my jacket once and it's now forever stained with remnants of that dark swamp of alcohol. Music sucked period by the DJ's that were featured that night. There were mixes of famous songs, but for the most part top radio hits of the year were absent and the night was dominated by awkward beats no one really knows how to dance to and old hits and songs I do not recognize. read more

Definitely do not get brunch here. Food is greasy and service is questionable. Came here for an event and would not be back. I'm sure this is a decent 'beer and bar' food spot otherwise. read more
