While looking for a good place to grab dinner and a drink the other night, I decided to check out the Lansdowne Pub. I was visiting a friend in the Fenway area and he was curious to test out the street's newest addition. I, liking all foods and feeling like trying something new, decided to venture over to the Irish pub. Upon walking in, I felt a great friendly vibe. The space, that was once occupied by Jake Ivory's, looked nothing like its former self and was wide open. We were there on a Thursday night around 9 p.m. and there was a good, friendly crowd. After being seated, I quickly took a look at the menu that was nothing like I had ever seen before. Although I do not frequent Irish establishments, I have never seen a bigger selection of dinner pies and authentic sounding items on a menu before. After ordering an "Alagash" beer, which was a tough call out of a menu of about 50, I started to look around the room. the walls were a combination of exposed brick, dark wood, faded colors and more. On the walls were old fashion photos and book shelves stocked with old bottles, books and more. The detail of the place was amazing, everything from the floor, to the lights, to the walls, made me feel as if I was in the country. The beer was delicious and after finishing off one, I decided to move on to Guinness with my meal. For dinner, I ordered a Guinness Beef Pot Pie and for an appetizers, my friend and I spit an order of mussels. The mussels were steaming as they were brought to the table on a fajita-style skillet. I was surprised when they were delivered in no broth, but after tasting one, realized that it was for a good reason. They were moist, and delicious. Moving on to the main course, I was extremely impressed with the pot pie. The crust sat on top of the pie and was easily removed and perfectly for dipping into the delicious stew that marinated the beef and vegetables. Everything about it was delicious including the brown bread that was served on the side which also made for great dipping. My went with a salad referred to as the ploughman's lunch, which looked like a delicious deconstructed salad filled with lunch meat, greens and tomato. He enjoyed every minute of it. As if I thought that the meal could not get any better, I took a look at the dessert menu and saw fried Twinkies and Mars Bars, chocolate chip cookies and more. I opted for the Twinkie, which was served in a delicious, light golden brown crust. I could not think of a more perfect way to end the meal. My friend passed on dessert and instead opted to sip on another dark glass of Guinness. The service at the restaurant was great. We were seated right away, our food was timed perfectly and served hot and the beers were served at the perfect temperature. We enjoyed our meal so much, that after it was over, we decided to stick around and enjoy the live rock music that filled the room with great energy and sound. read more

After a year or 2 of on going construction, The Lansdowne Pub seems to be the icing on the cake for Lansdowne Street. The street has a completely different feel to it from back in the days of the night club scene. The Lansdowne is by far the nicest place on the street and kid/family friendly too! When you walk in, you suddenly realize this is nothing like its former residence Jake Ivory's. The Pub and the staff give you a warm cozy feeling, the details of this place are amazing. The main bar goes the entire length of the establishment with beautiful mosaic tile on the floor in front of it. There are cozy little areas through out and there are even 2 working (gas I assume) fireplaces to ad to your comfort. There is even a community center bar rail (I guess that's what you call it) where you can grab one of the comfortable padded bar stools, pull up and sip a perfectly poured pint, nibble on some food and watch the band or the giant High-Def projection TV. Speaking of TVs, there are several HD Flat screens throughout the place, not an over whelming amount but certainly enough to catch every moment of the European soccer games and the Red Sox. Did I mention this place is BIG!!! After visiting several times now I have tried many items on the authentic Irish menu. Appetizers, the muscles are prepared like I have never had before. Served on a sizzling skillet, some sea salt and fresh lemon made us order 2 more rounds! The House Made Chips and warm cashel bleu-cheese app is simple but very tasty and goes perfect with a pint of beer and to share with friends. The Salmon cakes are moist and full of flavor. I noticed all the appetizers were made for sharing too. The main menu or entrees' section offers a variety of authentic Irish fare mixed with some American comforts such as the Chicken Sandwich or Pub Burger, both of which are great. My favorites would certainly have to be the Fish & Chips; a healthy portion of fish perfectly cooked, light and flaky accompanied by a large portion of chips. Also a favorite is the Gaelic Steak and the Beef Stew. Both as simple as they sound but full of flavor. As for desert, all I can say is Fried Twinky and Fried Mars Bar, YUM! As a BIG fan of beer, I am in love with The Lansdowne Pub which boasts 14 taps and some 40-50 in bottle. The average price for a pint is $5 which beats out most of the over priced bars in Boston. I will say the Bartenders full of brew suggestions certainly know how to smile, give great customer service and pour a PERFECT pint of Guinness! Not many bars can boast this, these bartenders have done their homework. Overall the staff is friendly, attentive and have a solid knowledge of the menu. The establishment is big & beautiful but yet comfortable and even has great live music on the weekends. The menu is very fair in price and the beers cheap. I. LOVE. THIS. PUB!!! I've been to Lansdowne the past few weekends and I have really had a great time! Almost too great. Very nice inside, and clean-- best Irish pub I've ever been too because you do NOT feel like you are in a dirty cave...I would say its more like a classy cozy and comfortable establishment which is slightly suprising for Lansdowne Street. Best part about my time there-- the people I've met. Definitely a younger crowd, but no one trashy. Cute guys and even the staff is cute :) Great place to go with guy friends because you can either sit/relax/chill by the bar ORRRR get down on the dancefloor depending on the mood of the night. Everybody wins. The bar is sooooo long so getting a drink is rarely a problem because there is always a spot to sneak in. Here's a trick if the bar is slightly crowded-- get a drink from the cocktail servers. They are quick and you wont have to stop what you're doing to go get a drink. EXCELLENT SERVICE. From my experience, Lansdowne is more crowded on Fri and Sat nights, but when I was there a couple Thursdays ago the crowd was slightly smaller and IT WAS AWESOME. There was a live band (way better then recorded music) and everyone was doing karaoke and having a great time. I did a little Tina Turner action. Hey, why not? I ventured to The Lansdowne Pub prior to a Sox game. The space and everything was extremely impressive. I couldn't believe the space actually used to be Jake Ivory's. What a difference. Every detail in the Pub really proved to show how this is truly an authentic Irish Pub. Since being in Ireland more times then I can actually count this was a great experience and really made me realize how much I missed Ireland but happy to see it in Boston. A lof of pubs that you go to really don't live up to what the pubs are in Ireland. Ok moving on to the food. For starters, I split the sliders which were cooked to perfection and came out very quickly. They were a good size and they would fill you up if you ordered them as your main dish. Next was the Guinness beef stew that was out of this world and I couldn't believe that it came with delicious Irish brown bread. Since, I have always had a sweet tooth how could I pass on dessert even though I was full and realizing that I would be sitting for quite awhile at the Sox game. The fried twinkie could not have been more of a better choice and well worth it. Not truly Irish but very delicious. The Lansdowne is a great addition to the area and is highly recommended to all if you want to really feel like you are in Ireland. I was told that certain nights they have a band so I definitely will make it a point to go. Checked this place out over the weekend with some friends and was very impressed. The place was fairly clean for a bar, and was very spacious. There was a decent size crowd, but we were seated and served within minutes of our group of 8 walking in the door. They had numerous TV's in the place where we could watch the Sox game without having large obstacles to look around. First off, there beer selection was great. A huge variety of drafts or bottles, including a Duvel, which is a Belgian Beer and I have not seen once since visiting Europe. The food was also very well prepared and very delicious. Not being a fan of Lamb, I was talked into trying their Thursday nightly special of a Roast Lamb Rack with mashed potatoes and a jelly. I have to say I haven't had a Lamb that tasted so good, and the mashed potatoes weren't too bad either. The Roasted Lamb taste mixed with the potatoes made for a delicious meal. I have to say I was pretty full by the time I had finished my meal and a couple beers, but when I saw the dessert menu, I figured I had to go ahead and try the fried Mars Bar. It was so delicious, as full as I was I couldn't help myself but finish it. Overall my group of friends and I had a real good time. We enjoyed the staff and service they provided, the food was tremendous, no complaints from anyone, and the variety of Beers pleased everyone. Will definitely be going back here soon! read more

Alright, so out of the blue after a concert at the HOB we decided to walk next store to The Lansdowne Pub. Having been to most of the Irish Pubs in Boston i will say this place blow me out of the water. We were greeted at the door by the manager who welcomed us and sat us. We ordered two guiness drafts from the waitress who was extremely friendly. When we got the two guiness to my amazement they had the proper head a guiness should have and not just flat like most Boston bars. After a couple drinks we decided to have a small bite to eat and ordered the mussels. Again to my amazement they came out of the kitchen fast and simmering. After being at this place for only half and hour it blow my mind how much they were on top of there game more than other Irish pubs around here. After we finished the mussels up, the manager came over to the table to see how everything was.(THIS WAS A FIRST FOR ME) After telling him how amazed myself and my girlfriend were, he gave me his business card with personal cell phone number on it and told me to contact him anytime i was around in the area. This again was a first for me becauce the only time ive ever had a manager come up to a table was over a complaint. I highly recommend this place to everyone out there.While your there ask for the manager Kelly and for the server Meghan, They will take care of you. Five stars all around. read more

The bouncer was an Asshole!!! My daughter who is a college student at Berklee went with her friends to Lansdowne to enjoy an evening out. My daughter turned 21 last June and is from Illinois. When she presented her driver's license to the bouncer he looked at it and immediately put it in his pocket and said this is fake and would not return it to my daughter. He didn't scan it etc. just took it from her. He boasted how he'd been doing this for ten years and could tell. She insisted she was 21 and it was real and she needed it back. He said "call the cops". She couldn't believe it. She waited for a bit and asked him again. He again refused and said call the cops. So my daughter did call the cops. The non emergency number. The operator told her to dial 911 which she did. The patrolman arrived and asked about it. He said are you sure you want to do this thinking it was a fake. Pretty dumb thing for a kid to do to call the cops about a fake id. The officer ran a background check on my daughter and had a friendly meeting with the bouncer and got her license back. No apology from the asshole bouncer and it ruined my daughter's night out with her friends. I'm waiting for a call back from the management. This happened Sept. 18th. I will definitely be back to The Lansdowne! A couple of us went into the Lansdowne for a few drinks before a HOB show. While there we ended up having dinner as well. The bar is HUGE and the whole room is comfy and spacious. Great beer selection and friendly bartenders. We started with the Chicken Bites which were amazing and our entree's ranged from Shepard's Pie, Irish Stew, Pot Pie and fish and Chips. 3 out of the 4 were terrific. Fish and chips were ok. After the show we returned to find out there was a $5 cover charge for live music, however after explaining to the door guy that we were there earlier for dinner and drinks he had the cover charge waived, and was also cool enough to wish my buddy a Happy Birthday. The live music was good. The crowd was a diverse mix and people were dancing the night away. Although very busy it was not too hard to get a drink at the bar but it was a lot more crowded than our dinner visit. We would all return to the Lansdowne on the next Boston visit. From the front door to the bar to the wait staff, they were all very kind and made the visit much more enjoyable than other bars/pubs in that area.. read more

My husband and I met up with a couple of friends for drinks and dinner around 5:30 this past Friday night before heading to Jillians for a reunion. None of us had been to The Lansdowne before. From the moment we stepped foot in the restaurant we were impressed. The wood sparkles from the chairs to the bar top. The staff was friendly and all smiles. The overall atmosphere was warm and welcoming. We sat at the bar and one of the bartenders approached us immediately. She was courteous, smiling all the while remaining professional. She recommended a couple of different beers which we tried and loved and the same went for the appetizers. The potato skins and sliders were two of my favorite. We all agreed to meet here next week as none of us ever get into the city since we have children and live in the suburbs, but The Lansdowne is well worth the trip. I urge anyone looking for a relaxing night out in one of the most beautiful bars in Boston with top notch service to go to The Lansdowne Pub. It's the whole package. read more

I stopped into the Lansdowne for a drink today after work with a few co-workers, as we keep hearing great things about this place, and my curiousity was killig me! The patio was super fun - our server was friendly and made sure we were all happy with our drinks and we were okay in the heat. After a few round of ice cold pints we moved to the bar inside and were totally wowed. This place is beautiful! Everything about the bar was inviting - the decor, food, and service...I cannot believe it's only a block away from my office! I didn't try much of the food, but what I had (ploughman's salad - greens, turkery, roast beef, tomatoes, cheddar cheese, and chutney) was AMAZING and they had lots of comfort staples in addition to some healthier options. Also, the bartender mentioned that they are doing live music on Thurs - Sun, so my colleagues and I already made a plan for the next week adventure to be at The Lansdowne for some live music on Thursday. I'm not sure why it took me so long to try this place out. Being in Boston and attending Red Sox games since I was a kid, I can't believe I've missed out on this place. I came here with a bunch of my old college friends that went to BU since it was one of their favorite spots a few years back. It's an Irish bar with some culture and flavor to it which is more than most bars can say. Drinks were strong and inexpensive, and the vibe is really cool with the live music that I experienced (wish I could remember the name of the band...but they rocked). I definltey recommend getting a table so you have your own waitress (staff is cute by the way, at least the ladies are). It makes it easier than fighting the crowd at the bar. Place is clean and kept up - ANd they have bar snacks which is always a plus in my book. We only tried the sliders this time, but you can be sure that I'll be trying half the menu the next time I come to the Lansdowne pub. This place is probably rockin after Red Sox games!! read more

I went to The Lansdowne last night for the U2 ticket giveaway with the Joshua Tree and it was AMAZING! Even though I didn't win the tickets - I had a great time! I had never been to The Lansdowne before, but have been a big fan of Joshua Tree and I was so impressed with the decor, service, and food at the pub. This place makes you feel as if just stepped off of Lansdowne Street and into a cool, neighborhood bar. My bartender always remembered my what beer I was drinking (Guinness - perfectly poured by the way) and made sure our group was having fun. I also found out that they do live music Thurs - Sun which I will be sure to check out soon! For food, we ordered off the late night menu and I was really happy with the selections. We ordered the blue cheese potato cakes, Irish sliders, and chicken bites - all were yummy and great for sharing! The regular menu looked great too - lots of comfort food. This place has converted me - I am a Lansdowne Pub fan and will be back soon! read more

Not sure how I could grow up being a huge Red Sox fan and not knowing Lansdowne until recently... where have I been? Lansdowne is right by Fenway Park which I can imagine is awesome for the baseball season. I came down here a few times this month since I discovered the great hangout meet up spot (guess I'm alittle slow on the barscene). First came here to watch some friends perform at Open Mic which was alot of fun. Drinks were cheap and strong which was definitely a positive (and probably made the performances funnier and more entertaining). I've heard they have kareoke too which could be a disaster seeing as I get pretty confident when I'm drinking... but anyway, I also came back here on Saint Patty's day after stopping by a bunch of other Irish bars...I was here towards the end of the night so it was kind of hazy, but I remember the music being good, and the crowd being fun. If you're looking for fun, this is the place to go... Red Sox season can't come soon enough. read more

I came by the Lansdowne Pub on Wednesday with a group of friends who work near Fenway and had an amazing time. We ordered some food - perfect for a cold night - Shepard's pie, blue cheese dip with chips, and Irish sliders - everything was made from scratch and delicious! Our server suggested some different beers that I hadn't tried before, and was really knowledgeable about what she was serving us. Then, we found the Ringing the Bull game. I had never played before, but I know am an addict. It's a pretty simple game, you have a ring on a string that you try to throw to get on a hook. My friends and I played this for no joke 2 hours, and by the end I was pretty good. I hear they have music on Tuesday nights with Berklee kids playing, and cover bands on the weekends so I have to come back to check that out. But, my night of great pub food, cold beer, and ring game was awesome and I will surely be back for more of those night! read more

Lansdowne Pub is a cavern of despair where joy goes to perish. The bartender, a gargoyle of ineptitude, moved with the agonizing slowness of a dying star, forcing us to watch our buzz evaporate into the stale, hopeless air. His hands, trembling with what can only be profound stupidity, sent a cascade of my own drink cascading down my clothes, a baptism of mediocrity for which he offered a guttural grunt that was more insult than apology. The true monument to failure, however, was the bouncer, a gelatinous mass of contempt whose face looked like a crumpled-up paper bag full of hate. He glared at us with the dead eyes of a predator that has forgotten how to hunt, his sheer bulk a testament to a life of poor decisions and even poorer hygiene. Every moment in his presence was a violation, a psychic assault that left you feeling unclean and insignificant. This place doesn't just serve drinks; it serves a life sentence of regret. read more

Great music. Great food. Cool people. I highly recommend this place! I went there for dinner and drinks with some friends the other night and had an amazing time. We started with mussels on a skillet and blue cheese potato cakes, both were really delicious and great for sharing. For an entree I had the grilled chicken sandwich that came with a tangy tomato chutney that I couldn't get enough of. My friends all loved their food - and my friend who got the fish and chips said it was the best he had, ever. And as we got our final round of drinks, my friend ordered the Guinness float - vanilla ice cream in Guinness, GENIOUS idea that was delicious and something I must go back and have all to myself very soon. As a bonus, as we were leaving a band started playing some great cover songs!! This bar has it all - great food, drinks, and a fun crowd. After having dinner and drinks at the Lansdowne Pub on Saturday night with a bunch of friends, we are convinced it is going to be our new spot this summer. A genuine Irish bar on Lansdowne is a wonderful addition to the area. The food was delicious, with a great selection and the staff was incredibly friendly. There was a diverse selection of beer but the best part of the night was the atmosphere that the Pub provided. One of the staff members told us that a lot of the decor was directly from Ireland and my friends and I agreed that it all felt very authentic. The Lansdowne Pub is truly a new gem in the city -- and this is coming from a girl who spent last summer in Ireland and currently works in the bar industry in Boston. I definitely recommend this bar to anyone who is in the area or looking for a welcoming, fun destination to watch a game, have a couple drinks or get a taste of Ireland. read more

Three words for all you yelpers out there...Live. Band. Karaoke. I wanted to write this sooner but the week got away from me. I went last week for a friends party and had so much fun. The food - sliders, blue cheese dip w/ chips, salmon cakes & sliders - so yummy. The food was great for sharing and easy to eat while mingling amoung 20 people. Then, karaoke started. This is not your normal karaoke night. There is a live band so the energy is out of control and though I needed a few shots of liquid courage to get up there, I am proud to say I say on stage with a live band. And now I am addicted. So to recap: great food. fun, silly entertainment, and did I mention there are always cute guys there? So ladies, if you need something to do on a Thirsty Thursday evening - there is really only one place to suggest - Lansdowe Pub for dinner followed by Live band karaoke. Before checking out The Lansdowne this past week, i thought great, another Irish bar in Boston - Just what the city needs. After checking, I quickly found out that this place is a bit different than the other Irish places in town. It was beautiful inside, very spacious, very fun atmosphere. The food was great, and the variety of beers was awesome. From the moment we walked in we were greeted and helped with a respectful wait staff. Our food was cooked to perfection, was very tasty, and our appetizers and main meals were brought out in a timely manner. The place really knows how to do business and in my opinion, is the perfect type of place to put on the Street. On top of a deliciousbeef pot pie, I finished off my meal with a fried Mars Bar... i had never had one saw it and had to order it. I felt like I needed a nap after my meal, but I will be going back soon. read more
