Upon arrival we were greeted with an enthusiastic waitress who had an abundant amount of knowledge regarding not only the menu, but the ownership of the restaurant! She was able to educate us not only on the food, but what exactly the Leaning Pear is all about....and I'm sold! Our table was large (7 people) and we still received prompt service and attention. Everything from the drinks to the main dishes was on 10. I had the BBLT which was crunchy, crisp, and charismatic! This sandwich had personality as the bacon was full of flavor. Another member of my table ordered the Mac and Cheese with Bacon which was savory in every way. They have a good selection of local beers and also housemade drinks like lemonade and different flavored teas. This spot definitely gets busy on the weekends so come early! I would give this a four star for being such a pretty building in a beautiful location, but a three star for the Dish I had today. Today For lunch I had the shrimp and grits, which is a traditional Louisiana dish. I asked the waiter if this would be prepared Cajun style and he said no, but it would be similar; it was similar, but I was disappointed in their choice of seasoning. The grits were too cheesy, too soupy and a little too salty. I would advise management to go with a more traditional dish because this is what people ordering shrimp and grits expect. My date really was excited about this place. We arrived at 11:30 on Saturday. The place is lovely with a lot of windows and wood. There's a beautiful patio for dogs, neat lighting, gorgeous setting. The waitress was super helpful and service was worth 5 stars. We started with wine and ale. We ordered several items to share, starting with a spicy sweet potato soup. I have a high spice tolerance, but the over powerful spice level took away from the creamy flavor of the soup. The wedge salad was interesting with dried figs (yum) and tortilla strips that added texture and depth. The dressing, though, was flavorless. A wedge of iceberg really needs a strong blue cheese dressing to redeem it, and this just wasn't it. Our entree, The crab cake ($12) was full of fillers (corn, bread, etc.) with very little crab and it was smothered in a creamy sauce. It wasn't awful, it just wasn't amazing. It had a nice crust and was served with delicious slaw. Then for dessert we had the most disappointing chocolate cake. It was dry and far from fresh. Very disappointing for $7. I feel like they're trying to be unique but are falling flat with the quality and flavor of the food. My favorite place to go with my college daughter. We've been here over a half dozen times now and it never disappoints. They only have outside seating right now, but it is lovely sitting outside. If it's a nice day, there's ample seating outside in addition to a tree house spot that's wicked cute. We opted for a secluded spot outside at the back, and no sooner did we sit down did a sweet server light a heating lamp for us. Our server, Shavanii, came out a moment later and told us about the specials. She also double checked on dietary restrictions, which was refreshing in a small Texas town. She regularly checked on us through the meal and was super sweet. We decided on the Quiche of the day and the Posole Hash. I highly recommend both. My husband and I had a great time at The Leaning Pear. We sat on the patio with no wait around 6 pm on a Saturday. Our waitress was attentive to us and our puppy. Our favorite dish was the Brussels sprout appetizer. We also liked the Mac and cheese, not something I usually order. Loved the choice of noodle and the peppers. Because it was served in a hot cast iron plate, both the top AND the bottom were crispy. Yum! The meatloaf was flavorful, but could have used a little sauce, because when it's sliced and cooked it can become dry. I did not care for the pretzels, which did not have the soft pretzel texture or flavor I love. The cheese spread was okay, but the mustard was yummy. I've been a superfan of the The Leaning Pear since first visiting in 2008. Rooster wasn't even one year old on my first dining experience. Once I got Jenny in for the next trip, its been a staple for our family meals whenever we had an opportunity to make the short drive over to Wimberley. Now, roughly 5 years later what started in one of the oldest buildings in Hays County has evolved into one of the most stunning restaurants I've dined in. Entering the new space was emotional for me; fighting back a few tears I can't believe the epic leap that The Pear has made. A beautiful rock fireplace surrounded by miles of glass; creative painted wood accents separating diners from the kitchen. A never ending deck that I can't wait to dine on; plus a "treehouse" screened in area. A libations shack complete with beer taps! How did they beat the odds in a small town? Start with farm to table fresh everything except for the kettle chips. Inventive specials which I've done my best to add to the Yelp photo roll over the years. Memorable meals include the creamy polenta with mixed mushrooms and goat cheese, bacon wrapped poblano pecan chicken breast with creamed corn, and my #1 pork belly with bacon slaw with new potato salad. Or was it the arugula, goat cheese, mint, peaches, candied pecans with balsamic? I've had soup combinations never realized until I visited The Pear. Poblano gouda, pale ale cheddar, ginger carrot, and rutabaga with bacon and blue cheese. Moving onto sammiches one of the best reubens on the planet and a brie BLT. Today, sampling the offerings of the new menu an improved and noticeably larger crab cake paired with slaw and spicy asian style sauce. Jenny sampled an original creation the Hill Country cobb salad while Rooster dined on his usual grilled cheese. Its actually a fight to see who gets the rest of what Rooster doesn't eat as the simple grilled bread and cheese combination is so perfect. I'm eager to sample the new pizza creations as well as the new entrees refined over years of just being specials. I'm totally verklempt over the new Pear. Came here on a Saturday evening with a reservation. Got there 2 minutes before the reservation and was told they were backed up. Whatevz, waited 15 minutes to be seated. Got the pantry board which was pretty tasty! For the entree, I went with the Boneless Beef Short Rib. The meat was honestly disappointing. The meat was soft and chewy, like it had been cooked in a crockpot, dry and tasteless. The short ribs made at home usually come out nice, crispy & tender. These were just blah & shame it's the most expensive thing on the menu. Should've been priced less based on the quality. The Mac & cheese was alright but a bit bland, maybe a bit more herbs & spices? We had a fabulous brunch here on Sunday. It was a reunion of sorts, with friends from San Antonio, San Marcos, Houston, and Austin descending upon Wimberley for brunch and visits to nearby wineries and breweries. We had a reservation for 8 plus a high chair, and the restaurant gave us a great table with lots of space and a divider so the cute baby in our party was not in anyone's path. Eric R. and I decided to share our orders. We got the "perfect pair" (choice of 2 between half sandwich, house salad, and soup) - I got the house salad and he got the half smoked steelhead baguette sandwich, and the Bendigo pizza. This pizza sounded so unusual we had to order it: lamb meatballs (sliced), roasted butternut squash, spinach, gingered tomato, yogurt and mint. I did not think the sandwich looked that great (see pic, half literally meant open faced and it looked dumped onto the plate) but he didn't complain. I stole some of his pickled onions for my salad, which was very good: spiced pecans, goat cheese, pear slices, shallot vinaigrette. The pizza was truly the star, as its flavor combination just worked magically. Service was okay - I asked multiple times for a straw after getting my drink and the server never brought any so I had to flag down the expeditor (we were near the kitchen output area).
