At $2.00 a piece we feasted on a family favorite and followed up with delicious small bites. We enjoyed the smoked wings either homemade buttermilk dressings. Meaty, just crispy enough with that smoky goodness. I also enjoyed the crab deviled eggs topped with salty roe. Four pieces of yum that was loaded with protein and filling. The service here on our visit was good. My companion enjoyed his raw bar dinner. Unfortunately, I did not. First, the seating does not accommodate people of small stature. Sitting on the bench, the table did not clear my shoulders. The chairs lifted me only a little. I ordered a half tea half lemonade and was served something truly vile. Later, I found out it was made with LIME. The shrimp cocktail was overcooked and perhaps made ahead of time. The sauce was ketchup. ??? The clam chowder turned out to be bacon flavored milk broth. The fish and chips was requested with unseasoned fries. The fries came seasoned with Old Bay. They did remake the fries, which were very good and I finally had something to eat. The fish, though, was very fishy- a sign of going bad. Never again here unless they overhaul their kitchen and recipes. read more

Original Skiff Fish and Oysters was the restaurant in our Hilton hotel in Burlington. The staff were friendly and attentive and the dining room was a nice mix of casual but sophisticated. The menu offers a wide variety of seafood options and of course offers a well rounded drinks list. The night we dined there I wasn't sure how hungry I was and after almost a week of travel I wanted to get my eating on a healthier track. I ordered the Farmer's Salad and a bowl of clam chowder. The salad was nothing special but it did scratch my eat healthier itch. The chowder was good. It had something different from most white chowders although I couldn't put my finger on what made it different. If I had to guess I'd say they put a lot of oregano in it. I ended up ordering peel n eat shrimp too. It was exactly what you'd expect although they must have boiled the shrimp just for this order because they arrived hot, making it somewhat difficult to peel. My husband enjoyed his clambake and hard cider. To finish we shared the banana pudding sundae which was something different but delicious. While staying at the attached hotel, we decided to go to the original skiff. We had just come back from a cold outing and all I wanted was soup. Skiff had a clam chowder. So we decided to try it out. We got the hush puppies as an appetizer. These were good, but the butter was a little over salted. Before ordering the clam chowder, my mom specifically asked if it had bacon in it, she was told no. When we got the chowder, it did indeed have bacon in it. Fortunately my mom avoids pork because she does not like it, and not for religious or dietary reasons. So she just took out the chunks of bacon. However, the chowders were included in the entree section rather than the starter section, and were $16 a pop. This did not even come with a side. Don't get me wrong, they don't skimp out on the clams. It felt like every bite had a clam in it, but it still felt like outrageous pricing. read more

1/2 priced oysters everyday from 5-6pm! Always at least two options of oysters and always fresh and delicious! As are their summer slushies which don't have added sugar just natural juices. They have a gin and tonic and a Miami vice slushy, both are excellent and not too sweet! They also have live music intermittently throughout the week so check on the schedule. The ambiance is nice as you have choice to sit indoors or outdoors on their patio with umbrellas. Good lighting and not too loud music. Service is sometimes spotty at the outside bar and you have to go inside to get someone's attention, but otherwise no complaints! Did not meet any expectations. The fried oysters were oily and overcooked. The deviled eggs are delicious but have crab meat and pieces of crab shell. The server wasn't great. We had to request napkins and silverware. The OS beer is a basic lager by design. When we ordered it, he asked if we wanted a glass or if the can was okay. We said the can was fine. It arrived with a lime which doesn't work with a can. Just take care of us and bring a glass. He was short with us throughout except when he brought the check. We live in town and won't be back. This restaurant was decorated really well. Had a casual upscale feel. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive. We purchased the 1/2 jerk chicken, the lobster pasta and the crab dip. The chicken was cooked to perfection and the seasoning was pretty good, the lobster pasta was pretty good however both the lobster and chicken needed to be salted as they were pretty bland for my taste. The crab dips texture was more of spread. So the name was very deceiving . Should have been called a spread as it was so thick, more like tuna salad. For the upscale pricing I feel each dish should have come with a side salad or vegetable. Overall pretty good as we stayed at the hotel and the convience outweighed having to find a place for a late night dinner. read more

We went here for our anniversary. The food was awful and completely over priced. My husband ordered the special which was swordfish. It was mushy and cold. Definitely not fresh. I ordered a $38 lobster roll. There was more bread than lobster and the lobster was clearly from a can. The so called lightly dressed salad had so much dressing I could hardly choke it down. We ended up taking a few bites, paid our bill and went to the Farm House for real food. We should have gone there in the first place. DON'T GO HERE. Literally one of the worst restaurants around. 4 stars means "good" per Yelp standards and good it was. Not great, but good. Solid. I had the deviled eggs (good, but no thanks on putting uni on top) and the fish of the day (salmon) which was very good. The parsely potatoes were tasty but too buttery and smooshed, resembling more a paste than a potato. The coleslaw was decent. On the salmon you should ask for cooking temperature as mine came medium-rare (standard for these days), but undercooked for my taste -- and they never asked me how I wanted it. I had the softserve ice cream from the sundae for dessert (no toppings) and it was really good. The bar is great and makes a mean negroni. The menu is a little odd / narrow so read it first before coming. E.g., bluefish chower, not clam chowder; no pasta dish; uni on the deviled eggs, the fried fish is in cornmeal, etc. So come, but read the menu at the door or online before coming! read more

The stuffies: too much bread crumbs, tasted like a ball of wet dough... not good. Crab and artichoke dip... delicious. Visiting from out of town and decided to try Skiff since it was in our hotel. Nice atmosphere and well-decorated, server was friendly and helpful to start. We ordered the crab dip and were quite shocked at being served burnt toast with what tasted like tuna casserole. Afterwards my burger was served and while it was average, for the price it should've been a little less soggy and Big Mac-ish. Mcds tastes better most days. My friend ordered the Fish fry and kept commenting on how overdone it was cooked. Almost to the point of burnt with incredibly dry fish inside. Two separate tables around us had to send their food back to the kitchen for whatever reason. Beautifully appointed restaurant on the lake in Burlington. This is in the lobby of the Hilton and convenient for visitors. Nice scene and vibe to restaurant and employees all friendly. Mario was our server, very accommodating and attentive to his tables. We split the caesar salad and ordered the seafood special and a pork chop which was highly recommended. The salad was good came out quick. We then waited at least 35 mins for entrees. Food came out and that's where this review goes downhill. My son's fish came with mushrooms and fries. Mushrooms weren't edible, the sauce was terrible. The fries were mediocre at best. He liked the fish and ate it all. The highly acclaimed pork chop came with clams on top in a brown sauce. The clams were cold. It was a good portion pork chop and nice cut. The pork was so over salted it was hard to consume. Whoever is working in the kitchen should really pursue another career or get retrained. read more

We each had bacon-topped entrees but the bacon was burnt to charcoal, making the whole dish taste like ashes. It was shocking, to be honest. (Either that, or charcoal is a trendy new flavor!)
