AWESOME place. We had the Old Fashion Flight (3 1-ounce old fashions made with different flavors), my personal favorite was the Gingerbread one! The bartenders made us a fourth old fashion 2-ounce and the flavor was banana bread. They did an incredible job of giving you the flavor of banana bread and while still maintaining a perfect level of burn from the bourbon. Tonight i artived at 5:00 and the door was still locked. There were 3 employees present and they were gossiping about a co worker. I sat for 10 minutes before being asked if I wanted anything. the service was not attentive for the next 2 hours. There was 1 male and 1 female bar tending. They did not circulate and check on the 5-6 tables like I would expect them to. I sat for over 25 minutes with an empty glass. This is a small Place that's cozy in downtown Lombard, with mixed drinks and other libations you may be used to. They have a seasonal menu and the Fall Menu is what's being served. Right now it's bourbon/whisky, gin, and mezcal heavy. I had a hot toddy and my other half had an old fashioned. The hot toddy was very good, with whole cloves floating around. The old fashion felt very heavy to me, but that's because it generally does. It was delicious me was served with one large cube. This is a first come first serve and they do serve snacks. I needed a quaint place to go with speakeasy vibes. I'm glad that they have places like this in the burbs. Located in downtown Lombard next door to a place called Babcocks (you can order small plates though them) think is the name? The summer drink list was nice, the staff was great. Out of the four drinks we ordered the watermelon one was my favorite. It's small It seats maybe 40 people there are cushioned wall sections and regular tables. I'm uncertain if reservations are accepted or not my friend and I were able to walk in and seat ourselves we were serviced pretty quickly. Parking was tough but it's literally steps away from the Lombard metra station and we parked and walked near there. read more

Popped in for a post-work cocktail with a colleague. Speedy, friendly, and accurate service. Cute space with small tables and a couple of cozy leather booths. Music playing. It was a lovely, warm summer evening, so we took our Contestant 23 & Sputnik's Delight cocktails out onto the patio and it was delightful. My blackberry inspired cocktail was delicious. I'm not a banana fan, but my colleague said the Sputnik cocktail was unique and tasty. Lilac League offers about 8 dishes: small plates like cheese curds, smashed potato, and a pesto-Swiss grilled cheese. We only had time for a drink, but next time I'll order food. Our waiter said Lilac League shares a kitchen with Babcock's Grove restaurant, so the food is guaranteed to be fresh and delicious as I am a regular at Babcock's and always enjoy their cooking. Have been here four times. Really a great joint. But here are the problems... This place keeps strict hours, based on Babcock's. Closed for 10 days around 4th of July; must be done drinking by 10, apologetic bartenders, but last call is 9:45, period. (Valentines Day, extended curfew to 11...) You can order appetizers (good) but no food from Babcock's, yet if you need to use a bathroom, go through door and go through kitchen hallway of Babcock's to use their one stall restroom. While I was OK with it, Marty and two other Lombardians told me the League was too cramped to bring their spouses. It is tight-seating, for sure. Cocktails are top-notch, yet you pay $12-15 (Chicago prices) for what you get. Cute Lombard names, and the bartenders ("Mixologists" are city-trained or Glen Ellyn former servers.) Yet this the most disturbing to me - tonight, after I had one drink, server Chris followed my friend (who had two "Bees Knees") and I outside, and asked if he should call an Uber for us. Yes, we were silly, and I had stumbled on the high step outside, but this was truly not needed, but OK, safety first, I get it...except... As we waved him off, we saw and then pointed to the guy standing in the street (St. Charles Rd.) in a White Sox jacket who had been seated behind us at a table earlier. There was no response from Chris, who went inside. I then called the bar, and "Aliyah" answered. I spoke to her about the man in the street, and she said "(that) she didn't think he was in her place tonight." Well, tonight we spoke with Cat, Matt and Chris at "her place." All were very nice. We talked about their February Tiki theme and publicizing it in Lombard social media. I never saw another person - "Aliyah" or anyone else - at the Lilac League. So, I don't know who Aliya is, but it's time that both the Lilac League and/or Babcocks' owners/management address real issues with restaurant and beverage service. I LOVE patronizing local establishments, but there needs to be education and training of staff. Decide if this is a hobby or an actual investment. It just seems shaky to me. read more

Such an amazingly cute cocktail bar in downtown Lombard. The drinks are complex, expertly crafted, and taste wonderful. This level of cocktail bar is unmatched in the suburbs and I simultaneously want everyone to know about it and want it to be a well kept secret. The interior is dark and classy with a laid back atmosphere. The waiters have always been very friendly and attentive, willing to offer great recommendations whenever needed. If you are looking for a recommendation, look no further than their standard 4 cocktails. Lilac Haze and Contestant 23 are particularly good imo. If you need a bite to eat, there are bar snacks served from Babcock's next door (they are connected) and those are great and affordable too. Pretty cute and cozy cocktail bar! To enter the bar you go through a door marked 21+ by the bathroom of the Babcock restaurant. It's a pretty small place so we had to wait about 15 minutes tucked into an awkward corner by the fire place before we could get a table. The drinks were pretty decent, although some of the old fashions in the flight tasted a bit off from what you'd expect from a nice cocktail bar. My favorite drink was the lilac haze which tasted like fresh lemonade. Overall, a pretty solid cocktail bar, but what really makes it special is the restaurant it's attached to. The food is very good, and at the time of this review it has pre inflation prices. You'll have a nice time here read more

We happen to stop here during a wait for our table at Babcock's Grove House main restaurant. We ordered an old fashioned and the pecks homestead. The pecks homestead cocktail was my favorite! We loved the vibes and how cozy it felt even though you are seated quite closely to others. It's nice to have a spot to wait for your table and discover new cocktails to explore. Love the cozy vibe of this dimly lit little speakeasy. I stopped here with my husband after having dinner at Babcock's. They have a good menu of cocktails with some original mixes. Tonight was actually my husband & I'd first visit here. We had tried other times since they opened, but this popular spot was always busy. Well deserved popularity and tonight we discovered our new favorite spot. We each had a drink we enjoyed. Our friendly server, Krea, was helpful in advising us toward drinks we might enjoy. Refreshing choices with a touch of sweetness. The unique atmosphere was cosy, but classy with a touch toward the feeling of an old time drinking establishment. I was entranced by the light fixtures and the faux fireplace added a touch of magic. It was a full house tonight at around 7:30ish, but I didn't feel crowded or rushed. I had one of the winter specials "Rosemary Dearest" and my husband tried a drink off the regular menu "Pom & Circumstance". We sipped each other's drinks- I can say both were delicious. Haven't been here since my last review right after it opened. We were in the area to check out the lights at Lilacia Park and decided to stop in here for a quick drink. Dave and I both got the seasonal Horse & Mule-er which was very good. Fresh and refreshing. You can tell they care about making a good drink. Service was great and atmosphere is nice and cozy. I still do find it a bit hard to really get lost and feel comfortable though. I don't know if it's bc it's so small or how it's set up but again I hope you get good table neighbors bc you will hear their entire conversation. I'm sure I'm just being weird about it though. So let me start off this review by stating I had no idea that this place was in a soft launch when I was there on 12/28, so my review is strictly based on that experience. I do feel this place has a lot of potential to be good though. My wife and I were directed here after we were informed it was going to be about a 30 min wait at Babcoks for dinner. When we first walked it we noticed very quickly that this place is small, dark, and busy. We were lucky enough to find the last table in the place when we came in. The waiter came over and gave us a menu and said he would bring some waters out to us, it was about another 5 min or so before we saw him again. We were then able to order our drinks and he did eventually get us some water, but the theme here is that our service was incredibly slow at every turn. I never mind waiting for cocktails especially when I know they can take a while and they have a very small bar area, but over the course of the 35 min in the establishment we did not receive drinks until about the 15 min mark. I had a Kentucky Mule and it was good, a bit too much lime, but it was good. My wife had a Bourbon Old Fashioned and it was good as well. So there is a good core product here. When were trying to leave because Babcocks had called us it was near impossible to close out our bill, because once again the service was just not up to par. My hope is that with some collaboration between Lilac League and Babcocks maybe eventually you will be able to transfer your tab and/or take your drinks with you to dinner, but I guess that will be on the wait and see aspect. Another benefit is that you might be able to order cocktails while at Babcocks. read more

I'm quite happy to see more classic cocktail bars opening in the suburbs - many of these feel like they could have come right from the city, and Lilac League does not disappoint! The drinks that my friends and I had were all very competent - great recipes that were very well mixed - good balance of tasting the base spirit along with sweet/citrus, etc. Prices are typical of a bar of this type, expect to pay $11-15 per drink. We arrived when they opened on a Friday night, but by 6:00pm almost all the seats were taken. Many patrons waiting for a seat at the restaurant next door end up waiting here. But - because they are part of Babcocks Grove House restaurant, they also offer some small bites - the ones we had were all very good. Downsides? Its dark inside - this is nice for atmosphere, but reading the menu was impossible. I saw many patrons having to use their cell phone flash to read the menu. Additionally, one of my friends pointed out they have a lot of security cameras watching the inside of the restaurant - odd for such a small place. Overall, I look forward to many more visits to The Lilac League! read more

Bring me back to the Prohibition Era! This quaint, cozy liquor slinging league is a fresh welcome to Lombard. City dwellers, fear no more! We arrived at 6pm on a Friday and the place was packed. We landed at the bar and couldn't have been more pleased. The menu features a few small bites and a good number of cocktails. The drinks were great: Interesting Pear (tequila meets pear flavors), Full Bloom (lemon elderflower), and Old Fashioned (solid). For food, we tried the tuna cake sliders, French onion burgers, and garlic aioli fries. Food menu was small but drinks and atmosphere were great. Bartender was super attentive and entertaining.
