Always passed by this establishment on the strip. Doesn't look like much from the outside -- gives the impression of a trashy pub somewhat, which is why I never bothered to go in. It's actually a lot cooler than I expected on the inside. Nice lounge areas, high tables, booths and a bar. Food is pretty decent, although the appetizers are expensive for a small amount of food. We ordered one of their communal drinks, however, and none of us enjoyed it -- rum was too overpowering. My only real gripe is the volume of the music. Way too loud, more appropriate for a bar/club than a lounge/pub. What's the point of reserving a lounge area or a group table if you can only hear the person next to you? Our group of six felt like we were shouting the whole time, and it was not conducive to group conversation. (Also, all they played was Drake.) Upon entering on a Sunday evening, there were only 2-3 tables occupied. We got a few drinks which were fine. I got a slice of their cheesecake which was mediocre and really sweet. Right on nelson street is this place called "living room" which is basically inside the "belmont hotel". Pink decor and old school telephone decor on the wall makes it look very hippie and modern at the same time. Mostly young crowd comes here as the drinks are cheaper . Very nice bar area and short and crisp menu which is more or less appetizers. Not very big portion of starters though. We had pasta which was cold but yummy n enough to feed two people only. I loved cauliflower starter which was baked n glazed in bbq sauce. Raspberry flavoured drink was sweet and sour at the same time and the whiskey cocktail stricked the right chord. Enough alcohol to give me the buzzzzz Clean place otherwise and infact every nook and corner was lively with young crowds. They have late nite hours and weekends in special. Came for brunch (on the first day it was introduced since COVID) and had wonderful service. Our server brought us a complimentary cinnamon roll to start, standard now. We had the wild mushroom benny and the shakshuka. Both came out promptly and were delicious. The croissant that was served with the mushroom benny was toasted perfectly. This is the downstairs part of the Living Room. Technically I think it's a different bar. The theme is all retro and maybe 60s. Reminds me of a Katy Perry or Pink music video, with all the bright colours. So much pink everywhere. Special mention goes to that cool looking DJ booth. There are also some rather interesting neon signs (profanity) on the walls. Cool to look at but kinda kitschy. Everyone knows these things be all over social media in no time. There are also some old school coin-op arcade machines, and a small area in the corner with a couch and some TV (aka basement style) video games. Staff were friendly and helpful. AVOID - FOOD POISONING!!! Have reached out twice privately with no response. My mum and I both got food poisoning from the dumplings sold here. I only had a bite of mine and didn't have anymore because tasted extremely off. My mum didn't think they were too bad and she had 2. Both horrendously sick that night, my mum a lot more so than me. This is a super funky and stylish new lounge that has the added bonus of a club in the basement, called "The Basement" lol. I intentionally went on a Thursday because I didn't want to deal with line ups and I hear it gets pretty cray cray on a Fri or Sat night. The Living Room is both cozy and classy, the food is tasty, and the staff is awesome. From the door men (shout-outs to Arron, Jamie and Kam) to the bar staff and back to our lovely server; service was top notch, authentic and helpful. How often do you go to a bar, and are provided with a personal tour of the new venue. Dope sauce!! The Living Room has plenty of seating, I especially enjoy the sections with couches that are a little bit segregated for a more intimate vibe. They also have your little chummy tables with one long bench seat that runs along the wall right across from the large central bar. Basically, if you want to social it up you can sit there, or the many seats surrounding the beautiful bar. The bartenders are social peeps so it's a totally awesome option. Honesty, I met so many of the staff members by name (that's classy), that I just can't remember them all! The mood is set by dim lighting, a DJ doin' his thing and presently (pun intended), a massive Christmas tree!!! Loving the Christmas decor complimenting the already kick ass ambiance if this new lounge. The food menu is extensive, but only runs till 10pm, at which time they switch to late night bites. I wasn't super hungry so I just tried the Truffle Pasta Bites because people kept raving about them. Yep, they are pretty rave able. Flavourful and rather doing for a light bite. Drink wise... U can grab a Hey Y'all or Nude for $7, or cocktails run $12-$16 if I remember correctly. Not cheap to drink, but this is definitly a nicer lounge option. The Basement Bar is also quite unique and funky with neon lights and video games. Forgive me for the graphic photo.... I didn't put that writting on the wall, but seriously enjoyed the decor lol. Oh, if you're uptight or a tad sensitive to sexually suggestive decor than don't visit The Basement or the bathrooms shared between The Living Room and The Basement. Other useful tidbits: Open 7 days a week @ 11:30am Happy Hour from 3-6pm. Highballs and beer for $5 and house wine for $6. They also have an upstairs room you can rent out for birthdays. I LOVE everything in the Hotel Belmont. I recently visited The Living Room and to my surprise, it actually looks like a cozy living room! They have a huge bar right in the middle of the space and plenty of surrounding tables close by. This space is defintiely perfect for large parties and birthdays, as you can head down to The Basement or up to The Attic after grabbing food here. I saw in some other reviews that others received bad service, but that was not the case for me. I was served by two different people at the bar and both of them were lovely. The first - a lovely gentleman - took my drink order. I wasn't sure what I wanted, so I asked him to make me his favouite tequila based drink. He did and it was amazing. I still don't even know what was in it. The second - a beautiful woman - took my food order. I was feeling something light, so I just ordered the parmesan truffle fries. It was a generous portion with a hefty amount of parmesan. Sometimes restaurants over do it on the truffle, but this was just the right amount. This is the new hot spot to be downtown, so you can definitely expect long waits to get in on the weekends. Drinks are a bit overpriced - but comparable to everything else on the Granville Strip. The Belmont ale is made by Molson and is on special during happy hour for $5. The audio is everywhere because they hung the speakers all over the roof. Wasn't an great experience but wasn't that bad. The cocktail list is a little on the pricy side starting at around $14 a drink. We opted for a bottle of the Pinot Noir, which was terrible. Not the restaurants fault! The glasses that were initially dropped off were absolutely disgusting. We pointed this out to our server who quickly got us some new ones and apologized profusely. Our server also recommend the truffle pasta bites as an appy and HOLY THEY ARE DELICIOUS. I could have probably eaten another 17 portions of them.. We ordered the chicken sando, chicken satay and Poke bowl for mains. The chicken satay bowl was amazing. The poke bowl ingredients were a bit odd. I wasn't a huge fan. We got chicken wings, coconut prawns too. They were ok. The jerk chicken lettuce wrap needed more chicken and the chicken was a bit tough. The white sangria tasted carbonated, no wine taste and didn't have fruit which was weird for a sangria. Other drinks were pretty good! Boutique hotel... restaurant... dance club... the Belmont has all sorts of vibes for whatever your Granville street nightlife needs! In my case it was an early evening catch up with a friend who newly moved to Vancouver. He's open to trying new places and just the person to make my first visit to the Living Room with. I definitely was not disappointed with the aesthetic and I was pleasantly surprised with how delicious the food was! I was honestly expecting average pub fare but the teriyaki quinoa salmon bowl blue my mind! I was looking for something on the healthy side but the deliciousness was a great touch. Price was good for the quantity of food. On the flip side my friend got the burger with flamin hot cheetos and he was definitely stoked to try it and enjoyed every bite. The only thing that disturbed me was that I had to investigate 4 different washroom stalls before finding one with a key combo of a locking door and toilet paper and also had to face disappointment when all but one of the soap dispensers were empty. "Worst blowjob ever" As guests at the adjoining hotel, my group of girlfriends stopped by for a celebratory (blowjob) shot for our bride's bachelorette party. I tried to order with the roided-out dude bartender - and everything went downhill from there. Dismissive, rude, and worst of all, when I asked if he could transfer the shot from a large sipping glass into a shot glass (as customary for this order), he proceeded to drink part of my drink and throw out more before charging me full price for the portion now left in a small shot glass. I should mention - my credit card didn't go through a couple times after I declined adding any tip. This compelled him to ask me if I'd "ever paid a bill before" while he called over the tiny female bartender working with him. I guess maybe he didn't have his big-boy pants on, because the girl steps up to me and demands multiple times that I "pay my bill or get kicked out." These two clowns were great at killing the vibe. If you're on a bad date and need a way to cut the night short, this bar might be the place for you, I'll give back one star here. Otherwise, bottom line is - service is abysmal and the venue is sub-par. They take themselves way too seriously here. Is this Jersey Shore? Find another spot, this one is definitely not worth your time. read more

I was there the opening weekend (earlier this month) of their newly renovated 3-level bar/lounge, Fri. May 17, first time visitor from out of country. My partner and I decided to check it out as there were crowds around the doors and it seemed like the place to be. Well, 1-hour later, and we got nowhere but cut by several people who said their friends were in line already (just about 7 people cut in front of us, saying "oh sorry"... yeah, sure). Even the "VIP" line was held up for quite some time. Well, all of the "bouncers" decided to continuously let their friends, acquaintances, and significant others in while paying customers waited in line. It was a mad mess. Two unkept lines on each side of the entrance, undefined and unmonitored. Meanwhile, through the center countless numbers of people mentioned they knew someone and were let in instantly. Mind you, people came in groups of bulk, 10+ at a time. Instantly let in. I'll tell you, this place isn't going to last if the bouncers bypass the payment policy and only let their friends in while they leave paying customers standing in line for almost an hour! Not to mention probably pocketing a lot of cash. We gave up and eventually brought our money elsewhere. Advice to owners: Start to strict up and manage your bouncers. Wonder why capacity is outrageous, and VIPs with BOTTLE SERVICE are waiting 15+ minutes in line? Well, because they let their friends in for free while making us all wait. It was clear what was going on. No cares were given. Own up. read more

The new hot spot on Granville street. Can be very busy on a weekend night. I like what they've done to the layout, compared to the old Doolins that used to be in this space. It's a cool concept with the living room vibe. This review is actually mostly about the food, which I was pleasantly surprised by. It's actually pretty great for a bar of this type. The meat and rice bowl had very good beef. Staff mentioned they sous vide it every day then flash it in the pan and serve. It was super tender. Service was good too! ASSHOLE BARTENDER Coming from the UK, we do not tend to tip as much as Canadians, certainly are not demanded to tip. Ordered a double rum and coke and paid by card, tipped the bartender 1% through the option on the card machine, then when he read the card machine after purchase, shouts at me across the bar in front of all other customers. "Cheers dude, thank you so much! best f***** customer of the whole night, Get F*****!!". Ive worked in 5 star cocktail bars as a mixologist in the UK for the past 5 years and never seen such unprofessionalism in my life. Disgusted, I would recommend management to train their staff in customer care because several other customers around me were appalled and shocked also. We booked this place through Hotwire, and, as an American, we were a little nervous about a 3-star or less hotel in a big city, but we're very pleasantly surprised. clean cozy rooms, great price, awesome location, friendly staff and a bar downstairs. I highly recommend this place over many of the pricier hotels downtown. The design of the place is impeccable and really fun, but the food was pretty disappointing (and pricey). I find even the most simple pubs offer decent food (we are lucky to find great food everywhere in Vancouver), but the food here was just meh. I got the greek bowl, the chicken seemed reheated and old. I think it was supposed to be grilled, but no grill taste or marks. The salad with it was just ok. We had reservations for our annual Christmas exchange party at the Colony and found out the day before that they had a private function. No call no help...we had to go down to them and find out we had to find another venue asap. Tara ( mgr at the Living Room ) was not just accommodating but lovely and gave us the back area with couches, fireplace and room to just let loose. They were all served before us, even though we presented our drinks prior.
