An update to say that they are maintaining the quality, and the recently opened restaurant is fantastic. Nice and roomy, nautical wood/brass decor without being cheesy/touristy, friendly and attentive staff, and the expanding menu is right on target. The quality can't be beat, and the prices are maybe the best of anyplace close by. I went just a couple days after they opened, and didn't notice any startup hiccups (other than that there wasn't coffee being served yet). They are ready for prime time! Service was amazing! The atmosphere reminds me of local pub with good lighting. The food.... I threw my hands up and said hallelujah! This place is a gem. Between the amazing drinks which are creative and so tasty to the ginormous crab cake to the buttery mashed potatoes. There was nothing we didn't love. My husband got the pasta special of lobster ravioli in cream sauce craisins and walnuts. I didn't know which meal I liked better. This review was hard for me! My boyfriend and I were really excited about the Lobster and were talking about all week! We got there at 7:30pm and there was a 45 minute wait for but was told we could go to the bar area for a shorter wait time. We ordered a drink and put our names on the list. Our table was ready in about 20 minutes and the gorgeous Leanne helped us to our seat! Megan (I think was her name) was our server was so awesome! We ordered the bluefin nachos and i must say it was the best nachos I've ever had! Now to the entrees I was really looking forward to the lobster roll and mainly why I wanted to come. Megan did inform me with the New England style the lobster meat was cold but the butter and bun was warm. I still ordered it but it was okay. We arrived after the beach at about 6 pm and had half an hour wait for a table. We waited in the bar area - we could not sit because the bar is also a na. Seeing waitlist though a different one. The bar tender (a woman) was great and we enjoyed chatting with her. We are seated at a table on the bar area / I was happy to have a water view though it was gray out. I had the lazy man monster - which came with two sides - and my husband had the crab cake. The lazy man lobster was crazy expensive at $48 but truly delicious. I also liked the grilled asparagus side; the salad I had as my other aide was just okay. My husband liked his crab cake sandwich but it wasn't spectacular. The big downside was the service - we had a main server and someone shadowing her and they were fine. But my salad was bright my some young man and he didn't bring silver; I asked him for some but he clearly forgot as many minutes elapsed and I had to flag down another server so I didn't eat my salad With my bear hands. I grew up in MA but have been gone for 20 years. We ate the local fish/crustaceans all the time growing up. I came back to Gloucester to visit family and we stopped here on the way out of town. I was a bit skeptical for the price of the lobster tails but..... the lobster tails. Omg. WAYYY more of a portion than I was expecting (hence my skepticism was ill placed). Excellent seafood, environment and service. Last time we were there the main dining room seating was limited which made it tough to get a seat but now they are fully open and there is plenty of space and tables. We were there for a late Saturday lunch and had tuna tartar app, lobster roll, swordfish and baked haddock. Didn't get a pic of the baked haddock but would say it could not be any fresher or well prepared with just the right amount of panko and seasoning. Would recommend all the meals and the Caesar salad side for haddock was prepared perfectly. I would always get the seafood here, but the chicken sandwich looked amazing as well. read more

For a place that should be top notch, it has lots of room to move up. 1st they have not gluten free menu, so don't even think of coming if yon want a lobster roll, sandwich or such things. We had company in town and heard these were the best lobstah roll - not disappointed! We estimated a full quarter pound of lobster meat, with little mayo on a toasted split top bun (very important). We got ours to go and ate a little bit up the way on the benches in Rocky Neck. My haddock sandwich with cole slaw was a complete inedible mess as they put the cole slaw INSIDE the sandwich which causes the roll to absorb the moisture and fall apart in your hands, the fried fish is similarly all mushy and wet. We went back for dinner inside, food and service were great BUT the air conditioner is set to Artic Mega Freeze. You really need to wear a jacket inside. read more

Service was really terrific at first but toward the end of the meal our waitress sort of forgot us (we didn't get drinks refilled, we had to wait a long time for her to check in on whether we wanted dessert or the check, etc.). We recently tried many lobster rolls on our trip along the East coast. Our favorite was at The Lobster.

Food undercooked had to send 3 items back all undercooked. Ordered stuffed clams only received 2 very small clams not with money

Food ok but the staff is really screwed up. I would not recommend! Bar staff changed the TV channel to something totally irrelevant, ‍!

My husband and I made our first visit to The Lobster yesterday. We sat at the bar and were promptly greeted by David our bartender/server. David is very pleasant and knowledgeable. He answered our questions without hesitation. I had the fish and chips with well done fries. It is nice to have a cook that well done means crispy for fries. My meal was perfect. My husband had the baked scallops. There were so many he was unable to finish them. They were cooked to perfection. To top it all off David made the perfect lemon drop martini. We will definitely go back but be warned, I envision that this place is going to be mega busy come tourist season. read more

Hard to recommend based on our experience. Came in on a Friday for lunch. It's a very nice space, probably fun to grab a drink at. Started with the chowder, which we very much enjoyed. Everything else was not so great. Our orders came out with several mistakes. Fries (served with an up charge) that we did not order. Fries instead of chips on another plate. The fries, all around, were cheap and over fried so that they were mostly shells of fried oil with no potato inside. They were stingy with the coleslaw on all plates, and the coleslaw was pretty flavorless anyway. The lobster grilled cheese had plenty of lobster, which is great, but the dense cheddar cheese is a bad match. Probably needs a creamier filling. The whole thing sat like lead in my stomach. The scallops were cooked fine, but were unimpressive given the competition in Gloucester. Overall the place has potential, but the quality of the food needs to rise to match the prices. read more
