Had a great meal here - classic Maine lobster and seafood joint (though there are other options). Turned out we were there their first day open for the season. I was on vacation and happened to find this cool place. It was Friday night so it was crowded but well worth the wait. I was seated at what I would call a counter, like you would find in a diner. There was a local guy sitting next to me and we started talking. He suggested that I try the Haddock and scallop augratin, it was amazing. The staff was extremely friendly and the owner even came around and asked how I was doing. I enjoyed it so much that I went back the next night and had the lobster,it did not disappoint! What a gem of a place! The decor is quintessential Maine. The view is breathtakingly beautiful. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly. He was attentive to our needs without being too present. We started with dinner rolls that were served warm and were amazing. I ordered scallop scampi over fettuccine. The scallops were cooked expertly, and the fettuccine was delicious. I also tried one of their signature cocktails - the lobsterman's daughter - highly recommended! Their offerings were all a step above and a nice twist on typical Maine seafood. read more

I came to this place the other night with a party of 9. When we walked in and told the hostess we were a party of 9 she very rudely told us we would need a reservation and hastely sat us. This place was neither upscale or busy, so the rude comment about a reservation was very uncalled for considering they had a long table that could sit us perfectly and the restaurant had very few people. The RUDE hostess got us off on a bad foot. The ambiance was quaint and comfortable. Everything was clean. Our waiter forgot several things and was not very knowledgeable about the menu. He didn't tell us that the lobsters 3 of the people in the party ordered would take upwards of a half hour! 3 of us ordered New England clam chowder, which was NOT clam chowder at all. It was in a broth rather than a cream sauce and the clams were too long and chewy. The soups alone took 25 minutes. We got bread and butter, but without any butter plates. My father ended up wanting a lobster after he saw the huge 2lb lobster the other 3 got and the waiter then explained those lobsters take a long time to cook because they were stuffed and baked, but offered a steamed version. The lobster he got was half the size and then the waiter informed us that they only use the 2lb lobster for the baked version. My dad was quite disappointed. My mother ordered lobster Mac and cheese. The potion was very small and cost $22! Although she said it was good, it was very overpriced. I got the clam strips fried. They were good, nothing special. The selection on the menu is small, and there are few non seafood options. We were traveling with a few people that didn't like seafood so they got burgers. They have clams and lobster which is the food of the area. No tuna, salmon, shrimps ect. The food was not bad, but the rude waitress and poor service ruined our experience. Unless it's salmon, I usually don't like seafood. However, I lost the vote for dinner so we came to this local place. What an amazing & yummy surprise from this cozy family place. I could not have been more wrong about my preconceived notions. There is a variety of food -- both for seafood lovers and haters. My son ordered the clam chowder and I have never felt so jealous while holding a pulled pork sandwich. The chowder (clam and lobster versions) here is unique - brothy, but so tasty with lots of clam and a slight crème flavor. Apparently it's a long family tradition and one of the favs on the menu. I couldn't resist the intruding spoon to sample this local treat. If you like scenic views while you eat, there's nothing better than the back bay view as sunset. I prefer people watching, and there are definitely a memorable mix of tourists, summer visitors, and local characters. Our waiter was eager to place the kids orders (and our cocktail order) first. Fast food and a bucket of crayons kept those kiddos and their parents happy. I appreciated the jokes during the friendly service. Final comment on the kid stuff: sure they have dogs, burgers, and pizza (even PB&J!) but we got a deliciously baked stuffed haddock dinner for about $17. That's a deal anywhere. The appetizer calamari was a good sized portion and cooked well, no greasy spoon here. I had a pizza, which was perfectly prepped with a choice of toppings. My wife had a sumptuous lobster roll with slaw on the slide. Our friends raved about the little neck steamers - but the menu has a wide variety, so non-seafoodies were really happy. However, the detail that MADE me write about this visit was the amazing desserts. Great selection of hand-made pies and the chocolate fudge brownie with vanilla ice cream was a 4 fork crowd pleaser - after the initial one was gone in 30 seconds, we ordered 2 more! On the way out we met Dawn Davis and her husband Eric who took over the place from Dawn's grandmother. Since I pass this place on the way to an annual camping trip every year, I finally decided to try it. My friend and I enjoyed a (rather small) lobster roll and a (rather large) fried fish sandwich. Both were very good. The atmosphere here is very quaint and Maine-y. The staff is friendly and helpful. Beware that it is only open during the tourist season, so by October, it is already closed. read more

This is quintessential Maine. Enjoyed a great day touring all of the finger islands in Maine and we stopped here for dinner. The lobster was fresh and mine had what some call a delicatessen but I call gross! The chowder was exceptional! The staff was friendly and the place was obviously family run. Lobster House is a hidden gem in Phippsburg Maine. You can tell a place is good when locals eat there and get the same thing that the tourists do. I had the "Fully Rigged" Maine Event - Clam chowder, steamed clams, fried clams or shrimp, whole streamed maine lobster, fries and coleslaw. The amount of food was insane and it was insanely good. Lobster are extremely fresh and live lobsters are in tanks near the bathrooms. The Fully Rigged (something that will run around $60-80 on the West Coast) cost only $34.99! What a steal! all their food was good and they had a large selection of draft and bottled local beer as well as specialty cocktails. read more

I've been coming to Phippsburg since I was a kid. Every 5 years or so, my family and I have given this place a try, and every time the food is mediocre and the service horrible. Tonight was no exception. We had a party of 12, and two of us (my wife and I) sat on a half seat at the end of the bench. The main course took between 1.0 and 1.5 hours to arrive, depending on the entrée, and the last one to arrive (stuffed scallops) was lukewarm on the outside and nearly frozen on the inside. We sent it back, and the waitress took it off the bill. That was the only accommodation we received. My overpriced, supposedly 1.25 lb. + lobster was scrawny and likely under-weight. So-so best describes this place. The fried clam dinner was skimpy and the clams just a step above 'clam strips.' When we went in there was confusion at the hostess station and we were asked how many in our party by several staff people. A pricey mediocre meal. The restaurant is very dirty, the Windows have caked on dirt all around them, There is black mold is the center of the ceiling. The bathroom was very dirty. The toilet didn't flush well. The kitchen staff at noticed wasn't wearing gloves. The cutlery I received was so foggy, it also had finger prints. had a party of five, Two people in my party order Caesar salad, only one person receives dressing on their salad, but she didn't ask for no dressing. The dressing is homemade, but I tastes like mayo with horseradish in it. I found a hair in my water. Another lady in my party asked for a grilled cheese, with cheddar cheese. It had Pepper Jack on it. The waitress that kept coming over to fill out water was creepy, she kept staring at us, with a discussed look on her face. The dining area was very loud, and hot! We were a party of 9 we waited about an hour for our food to be served , it was cold and not very good at all. My wife and myself both ordered the 1/2 clam and 1/2 scallop plate. I got mine 10 minutes before my wife's was served. I got 6 scallops and 6 fried clams the scallops were good but the clams were not plus for $22.00 i should have got a lot more food. My wife's clams were really bad i mean rotting bad we could not believe it so we asked to take it off the bill and they said we can make you another plate. Who wants to wait an hour for another plate so we said please just take it off our bill. We also got the Lobster Mac & Cheese it was good but very small for $22.00. Our friend's 2 children both the spaghetti and the noodles were not even close to being cooked. We asked so have those taken off the bill and they did. So we life hungry and paid over $240.00 but we did have a cocktail. I will never go back because we had our worse experience of our life's. read more
