Wow, still the best place to eat in Provincetown. My review from 8 years ago is still valid. We have visited The Lobster Pot every summer since and love coming here. At first glance you might think The Lobster Pot is a tourist trap due to its location. It's anything but. It's an institution. And, yes. They make incredible lobster, but they make a whole lot more than that. This is an old school restaurant that runs like a well oiled machine. It will invoke nostalgia for you without feeling old and stuffy. There's a beautiful view of the harbor through the wall to wall windows around the dining room, and a small outdoor dining deck as well. The service is incredibly friendly from everyone and they absolutely hustle. I had the best lobster of my life here this year. It was a beautiful hard shell lobster absolutely stuffed with meat. Flambeed and roasted with a brandy butter sauce. It came out piping hot coated in that delicious sauce. It was to die for. My husband had the Cajun bouillabaisse which was loaded with perfectly cooked fish and shellfish all in a rich, spicy broth. You would think the orzo it was served with might be an afterthought, but it was divine and buttery, mixed with some lentils and grains. What an astounding meal! My review is going to be the outlier but that is what I hope my experience was for everyone else. My Wife and I were excited to eat here. We always look at reviews and photos on Yelp and plan a lot of our vacations around food. The steak, environment, scenery and drinks at this place had us excited to eat here. It is the worst experience we have ever had at a restaurant on vacation. Strictly due to the food, I don't recall any aspects of the service being poor. The chowder was very average and not something you would expect from a place in Cape Cod. The lobster on the lobster roll seemed fresh however, nothing else about the roll was better than average or special. The potato salad served with the roll was very bland. The cowboy steak was cooked very poorly. Not only was it not cooked to the desired temperature but it did not have a sear and was not hot when it arrived. The steak contained more fat and gristle than meat. They drowned the steak in sauce which hampered how well I could taste the steak. I am aware most reviews of this place are positive and accurate for the experience of that specific Yelper. However, that is unfortunately not the experience we had. This place looks small from the inside, but once in we found that it is huge. The owner or mgr related that this is their 54th season. Wow. Plus, he was great for relaying what to order. I had the lobster & shrimp salad after telling Peter the waiter that I didn't want fried. He assured me that the serving was ample, and it was indeed. We were in Cape Cod for a few days and made a drive to Provincetown today. After walking around for about an hour we decided to have an early dinner here. It was a great decision. It has a great location overlooking the water. We were lucky enough to get an outdoor table. Service was great from our server, Todd. The menu has plenty of lobster and other seafood options. An absolute must if you visit P-Town, MA. It's an unorthodox restaurant, you enter through part of the kitchen so there's a lot of activity as you're taken to your table. We were sat upstairs in the covered balcony with view of the bay. We came here in part because of the advertised Fried Whole Belly Clams. "Clam strips are for the tourists" we were told. So... we ordered the clam chowder in a bread bowl which was spectacular and the Fried Whole Belly Clams. And they were very good. Meaty, fried in a light batter and delicious. Highly recommend. Parking was an issue as we had to pay $20 to street park since it's quite a busy place. Regardless, I'd return and would recommend. read more

It's gets busy in tourist season so we usually go off season. We went the other on early May and it was outstanding. The service, the food, the ambience were all excellent! We started with two appetizers, one was a seared tuna with crème freche that was just outstanding!! The other tuna sashimi. Also excellent. Our dinners did. We came back here on our 2nd time at the cape in a group of 6. It was 4:30pm on Saturday and plenty of tables available. We shared everything and was plenty for us. Everything was good, but the two standouts for me were the Portuguese fish and seafood linguine. Portions are sizable too. Complimentary bread with warm dinner rolls and pumpkin squares. Seafood linguine: I saw some reviews that it didn't have much flavor, but this was great! A creamy tomato sauce with not overcooked pasta, and plenty of seafood. Lobster ravioli: I had this as an appetizer before. The entree was pretty much the same but it got too rich for me after the first ravioli. Lobster arancini: good sauce and great bites, but not sure if I need to order it again given how many other things there are to try. Lobster salad roll: this was the only thing that was just whatever. Drinks: Truro sauv blanc (fruity), ginger green tea martini, basil watermelon mocktail (tasted good) Also, a tip about the QR billing, there's a fee so I chose to pay the old fashioned way with a credit card. read more

We had a good lunch on a Friday afternoon at Lobster Pot. We were seated promptly as we arrived around 1:15 pm ok the second floor. It's a nice view of the harbor and the blue skies! We started with a couple of mocktails. The flavors were good but it was more ice than the actual drink so a few sips in and all you had remaining was ice. We ordered several dishes: a mug of clam chowder, two lobster salad rolls, oyster Rockefeller, fried clam strips, and a Portuguese cod with orzo. The clam chowder was tasty but for $10, it was a small portion. The lobster salad roll elicited different responses. We liked it but others in our party did not compared to a place they had eaten at recently in Newport. The fried clam strips were great, no arguments there. The oysters Rockefeller was tasty too especially the stuffing, and it was a first time having oysters for many in our lunch party. The Portuguese fish was a large portion and had several elements to it - the flaky cod, stuffing, orzo, mushrooms - and people enjoyed it. We easily spent over $200 here for lunch. Went to the Lobster pot express to get a lobster roll for the start of my road trip! Quick service and cute little place. I thought the roll came with a lot of meat for the price and it had a good amount of sauce that made it moist. It wasn't the best roll I had while in Massachusetts, but I would still give it a solid 8/10. I think I've just had fresher ones. Great experience! The service was great, and everyone who works there - including the owner - is beyond friendly. The owner stopped by a few times to say hi and check in on the table as well. I thought all of the food was fantastic - for appetizers we did the lobster ravioli and lobster mad and cheese. The clam chowder soup was really good, and their baked lobsters in the sauce are a top choice. I was shocked to see how big the inside is as it looks pretty small from outside. Regretfully, I don't remember our wonderful waiter's name now as I am writing this review well past my amazing dinner experience here, but I have to give it to him for continuing to provide exceptional service even at the end of his shift , when we were probably his last table. He knew we were out of towners and it was our first time at the lobster pot , and gave us insightful recommendations and made sure we had a good time. Aside from the meal being 10/10, the service was impeccable and worth mentioning. The menu is pretty extensive and overwhelming, but I kept it simple and opted for the hot lobster roll which came with fries and their house made potato salad. Sure the roll was delicious and generous with the lobster, but HOT DAMN if the potato salad wasn't the most memorable thing I ate!! My friends all agreed , it was just perfect. It was mustard based like a southern style potato salad....you can tell the chef has been to many a cookout with that recipe. I loved it so much, I did not hesitate to pack my leftovers in a box and enjoyed them later. As for my drink, who's ever heard of getting a refill on the side for an espresso martini?? That was the best $16 martini I ever ordered! I imagine this place is busy during peak dinner hours as it is a Provincetown staple , especially with no reservations allowed, but we were very lucky to get seated quickly. We shared a clam chowder which was ok, but we wouldn't get it again. My date got the lobster Reuben, which I almost regretted not getting, but I'm glad I didn't - it wasn't great. It was a good portion of lobster, but not worth the price and had a strange flavor combo. Overall, I would come here and get the seafood linguine again. I've been coming to ptown since I was 23, which was... uhhh. Let's just say I've been coming a long time. And have been to the Lobster Pot on many occasions. It's always been a solid place to come for traditional seafood. Ptown places don't need a queer o meter, it's our town, so top notch. I'm torn on the review - it's the beginning of off season and maybe that's affecting things but it fell short for me. I gave 4 stars bc 3.5 isn't an option and I don't think it deserved 3. The pros - staff is super nice. All of them from the door to the busboys/buspeople and all in between. The bread - warm white dinner rolls and small cubes of gingerbread. YUM Clean throughout. I'll loop in the cons with the reviews of food: The oysters are fantastic - tough to mess them up unless you get grit or they're spoiled. These were chilled and a small slice of ocean heaven. I would've like the traditional mignonette, cocktail sauce, lemon wedges, and freshly grated horseradish, however there was no horseradish or mignonette. For $3 each toss a little on the plate please. My wife wanted a small salad with grilled chicken, after asking the dressing options she decided to go with the Caesar. Oddly, they have 4 dressings and no real "basic" ones. Blue cheese, toasted sesame, Dijon something and creamy garlic. Italian? Nope. Thousand island? Nope. Little odd imo. Anyhoo it came tossed with 5 strips of grilled chicken. Flavor and freshness was good the portion what was expected. The price was not expected. $13 for the small salad and $9 for the chicken. Onward... I got the baked stuffed shrimp, it came with orzo. I ordered a side garden salad. The shrimp and stuffing were tasty and fresh. The stuffing was a little sweet, maybe gram crackers in there? Not sure but the crabmeat came through nicely. However when you flipped the shrimps to the side 2 were whole and 2 were missing about 1/3 of them. They weren't traditionally butterflied and wrapped, they were deveined and curled around the stuffing ball. Just off and off putting. The orzo lacked completely. Cooked ok but no flavor or seasoning. Then there's the bill - clearly I knew what we ordered and I'm more than fine paying for a great meal. This wasn't, mostly because of the corners I felt it cut. My side salad was $14. Fourteen dollars for a side garden salad. I was thinking $6 or something with an entree since my $33 stuffed shrimp only came with orzo as a side. No broccoli or veg of any kind. All in all - service very good, atmosphere - social and on the noisy side (which is fine! Just not romantic or anything) food - overall taste wise, it held up. Price wise comparing what you get - disappointing and the shrimp trimmed off ends? Don't do that, please. Will we be backs? Arggg I'd venture to say no, UNLESS I'm getting a whole lobster and oysters only. It'd be strictly for a boiled clam bake fix. Cheers! read more

We have eaten at the lobster pot many times over the years it had been a good restaurant. Staff was consistent and among the best as many of them returned year after year. One of my favorite dishes was a seafood stew (it has a name on the ment which escapes me)with calamari rings, small shrimp,, cod, mussels and clams all cooked in a tasty broth, served with rice. Ordered the same dish today and was very disappointed as I had been looking forward to enjoying this dish all afternoon. Calamari was rubbery, shrimp were tiny; the clams and mussels were fine as was the cod but there was sauce on top which had separated and was floating in orange bits in the broth--awful presentation. The side dish of orzo was disappointing as it was very dry and a bit too crunchy for my taste. Rolls were provided but had come out of the microwave as they had the crusty exterior and the steaming hot interior which I associate with microwave use. My husband and I visited PTown on our mini moon last week, and after months of wedding prep, we were so excited for some fried seafood. I had been to the Lobster Pot probably 20 years ago when I was in high school, and always wanted to go back. As an Anthony Bourdain fan, I wanted to visit the first restaurant he ever worked at in the 70s. To start, our waitress and all of the staff couldn't have been more sweet. We were riding the high post-wedding and she kept telling me how beautiful I looked! She just added to our experience so much and it was appreciated. We started off with the yummy pumpkin bread and butter, and some cocktails. The cocktails were tasty and packed a punch. For our started, we had a lobster cocktail and it was DELICIOUS. It couldn't have been more fresh and we enjoyed every bite. My husband had the lobster reuben and I had the fried scallops. They were both out of this world. Once again you could taste how fresh the seafood was. Absolutely fantastic. We are not usually dessert people at restaurants but the blueberry lemon bread pudding sounded too good to pass up, and it was. WOW! The warm bread pudding with vanilla ice cream was just delightful.
