The food is great. If you don't feel like cooking it is an easy spot to grab a hearty protein and add your own sides at home or vice versa. Everything I have tried has been great including items as simple as beans, rice, and plantains are excellent. A couple of areas for improvement: 1) the lighting in there is awful. They have a nice large, clean, dining area with large windows but the lighting is similar to that of a doctor's office--just not inviting. 2) dishes lack information on allergens. I've been going to this location for awhile now to get the Brazilian buffet! Which they still have which is AMAZING! I'm Portuguese so I'm really happy to see an option for Portuguese food here in falmouth! The place is always clean and everyone I know loves the food! Everyone is always super nice too! Prices are reasonable for home cooked tasting food! There was a review on here about the sign. Things take time especially because after covid. My husband and I were very excited to try The Portuguese. The menu looked great. We ordered Pica-Pau appetizer, the oxtail dinner, and the individual seafood paella, the latter a bit of a signature dish to try. We brought our own wine and sat outside on their small patio. The food was good and the presentation of the paella was beautiful but overall the food though ample lacked flavor. The food was in a word, bland. Maybe the family owners and presumed cooks are trying to reach a wider audience by toning down the flavor but we were disappointed though well fed. We wish for success for this restaurant and hope this review is helpful. As for ambience, the patio was relaxing. I don't mind a brightly lit interior but it was freezing inside. We enjoyed a breakfast bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich this morning, served on a freshly made Portuguese roll - the size of the roll readily accommodates two fried eggs. The ambience of the restaurant is welcoming and relaxing. The owner of the restaurant takes a great deal of pride in her food, and follows up with pride and insight into her offerings. Definitely recommend trying this family friendly restaurant specializing in authentic Portuguese fare. read more

I recommend the Grilled Linguiça. Delicious app. The waitress was very accommodating, kind and reviewed the menu choices with our party of 4. They are still getting settled in their new space. We were pleased with the service and the food. The soup of the day was a chicken & rice which was very flavorful. Both items were a great start to dinner. read more

They posted that they sold out of Malasadas in about 20 min of being open but promptly started to make another batch and offered to take orders and/or text when the malasadas were available. They did text me promptly when they were ready - got them while they were still warm, and they were great! And the price could not be beat! While picking up the Malasadas - the inside appeared very clean and cheery with several tables to sit at . A very pleasant woman at greeted us at the register helped us. All the food smelt and looked really good; we will definitely be going back to try more. I saw some neg reviews but if those were true, I think it may have been a couple of small bumps that everyone hits when opening a new business. I like to support local businesses - esp when they are just starting. Sorry no photos of the malasadas - they did not last long enough to take a photo. :) read more

Dined solo tonight at my favorite new restaurant on the Upper Cape--The Portuguese on Route 28 in Davisville (Falmouth). This was my 5th visit to the Portuguese since I posted my first review back at the beginning of May. Tonight I went to try a specific dish which The Portuguese had been teasing on their FB page for the last week or so--"Chick Peas with Pork a Alentejo." Sounds like such a simple dish, but it was anything but. This stew is complex, flavorful and absolutely delicious. This is seriously good food for serious foodies. This stew is slow braise of pig ears, pig tails, pigs feet, pork belly, three different kinds of sausages (Linguica, Calabresa, and Morcela) along with various vegetables (e.g., onions, cabbage, potatoes, and carrots), garbanzo beans and spices, including mint. The slow cook produces an unctuous and rich sauce just begging to be put over rice (which is served separately with the dish), sopped up with some of their home-made bread, or just consumed directly with a spoon (which is the course of action I pursued). Of course, I couldn't resist the temptation to start my meal with my favorite salad on their regular menu--Salada Montanheira--which I have previously described as a cross between a Spanish gazpacho and a Mexican salsa. I have tried twice to replicate this dish at home without success. I haven't achieved the right balance of olive oil, vinegar, water and spices to achieve the refreshing taste of this salad--which goes beautifully with some of the rich dishes served at The Portuguese. The stew from Alentejo (which is a part of Portugal to the south-east of Lisbon) was delicious and entirely memorable. I hope they will decide to put this dish on their new winter menu. Dining at The Portuguese is a delight--it's casual and comforting, the family who owns this are friendly, earnest, and very proud of the food they are making and they care deeply about whether their customers are enjoying their food. There are still so many dishes on their menu which have yet to try, but I certainly plan on meeting that challenge. Thank you Celia and family or yet another wonderful culinary experience. read more

It's an odd name for a Portuguese restaurant with many Portuguese restaurants in the area. The pretension is magnified by the fact that the owners/chefs are Brazilian. We gave the ascetic and barren space with overly bright fluorescent lighting the benefit of the doubt....not to judge a book by its cover. We ordered traditionally portuguese dishes and were throughly disappointed. The food matched the setting and ambience. This eatery is new and I do wish every family business success, but they can only succeed if they up their game as there are many portuguese and Brazilian restaurants to choose from in the Cape Cod / Rhode Island region. A restaurant should be a pleasant place of repose and artful sustenance. Signature dishes should be simple and flawless. The cataplana ( seafood stew) had octopus, shrimp, and small clams but no actual fish. The taste was lacking. My wife ordered salt cod (bacalhau) which was not properly desalinated before cooking. The prices were exorbitant, more in line with fine dining, but this was certainly no fine dining. It was meant to be Portuguese comfort food. read more

Weirdest experience that we have had in awhile. I saw a glowing Yelp review (and in a local restaurant review group) for the Portuguese, went to their website and it sounded great. Added the restaurant to our list and today we needed to go to Falmouth so were planning to visit. Directions were not easy to come by from Google but we found some. We drove by the place where Google said we had arrived at our destination 3 times. Finally we pulled into a parking lot where the restaurant is supposed to be and start checking addresses. The address online matched the address where we were but the restaurant name was "Bite to Go, or something similar", not the Portuguese. I called, phone was answered with " hello". I asked if this was The Portuguese and the young lady answered, yes. She proceeded to tell me that they haven't gotten a sign yet. So they opened a month ago, have a great looking website but no signage whatsover???? The sandwich board inside the front door still says "Bite to Go" and you see candy and convenience store crap on display. I don't know what is going on there. read more
