The cafe is inside the local grocery store, and if you take some time to look around, there's an adorable natural health/beauty/wellness section with lots of beautiful products. Cute fast fresh little market/deli with a lot of organic, natural, vegan/gf friendly options. My friends and I stopped here on the way to hike Black Cap for a quick bite/refreshment. It's a super cute place that brings a lot of outdoor feel inside! I got the peanut butter and superfood chocolates for a small quick snack and they were pretty good. The staff was nice and patient as we all decided on our orders. My friends got some paninis and packaged to go salads. Almost everything here is vegetarian, vegan and/or dairy/gluten free. This place has the rudest staff I've ever encountered. We were driving back to Boston and tried to order food along the way. Unfortunately, I accidentally confused this restaurant with another one located about 20 miles away, so we were too far to pick up the order. I first spent over 30 minutes on hold. When someone finally answered, she told me that my food had already been prepared and that they could not issue a refund. I asked to speak with a manager, and after another 10 minutes on hold, a man picked up. He initially pretended not to hear me, and when I said, "I can hear you just fine," he finally responded. As I tried to explain the situation, he interrupted me and said, "You ordered the food, it's not my problem--you pay for it." When I asked for his name, he hung up on me. Really good options for those looking for vegan and organic. If you are looking for anything health food related in the North Conway area, try this store first. Aside from that, this store also has a really good breakfast. I had the breakfast sandwich which came on homemade sourdough bread. I added New Hampshire bacon for a little extra charge. There was a ton of bacon, so I enjoyed that. Overall, the sandwich had a good homemade taste to it. It was pricey, over $10. I wish there was a little more cheese, perhaps some New Hampshire cheese to go with the other local ingredients. The vibe is very earthy. You bus your own table. Lots of plants to decorate the space. This is our absolute favorite place to stop on the way to and from skiing. So far we have loved everything we have had, from iced lattes with breakfast sandwiches to BLTs with fries. And if you get the fries (hand cut!) do NOT miss out on the curry ketchup or garlic aioli! To die for. They have a wide variety of health conscious treats, chocolates and baked goods, and of course the grocery section has lots of interesting options to explore. I alluded in a previous review to finding a Whoopie pie I actually enjoyed, and here was the place where that happened. You can make fun of me all you want for liking the hippie whoopie pie flavored with carrot cake spices and made with organic vegan marshmallow fluff or whatever, but there you have it. The Local Grocer really saved our asses in a resorty town during Covid where all the local restaurants were often overwhelmed to the point of refusing to even take phone orders. We'd go to their little deli and get breakfast burritos or fruity granola frozen yogurt bowls, or we'd go to the refrigerated ready-to-eat meals section and pick up packets of gluten free pesto pasta or vegetarian Thai dumplings to take on a picnic. Some of their inventory is ridiculously, laughably overpriced (think if Whole Foods doubled their prices) but you can find reasonable ways to sate your hunger if you search a little. read more

Loved this place the moment I walked in! So thankful to find a place with good vegan food, drinks, and staples. I ordered a green limey and sat in their dining area. Rustic, comfortable and spacious. They have lots to order off the menu and only wished I had come here sooner for lunch. I also picked up a great water bottle with a juicer in the bottom so I can add some lemon, lime or an orange for flavor. They have vitamins, mints, food and a cute little area upstairs with gift items. I will def go back to eat when I am in the area again. See you next year! read more

When we entered The Local Grocer my partner immediately said, "if we lived nearby, you'd be here all the time." And he's not wrong: I crush on local, healthy, organic, all natural, community focused grocers. There's interesting foods and it always smells good. There's sort of two different stores happening here: there's the eco-gift shop on one side and the grocery/cafe on the other side. The grocery has everything you could want or need from produce to larder items to cleaning products. Whenever I come to places like this I look for the things made locally that I know I would never be able to get/try anywhere else. On the flipside, it's also interesting to see what major vegan brands a place carries, and this had a few options that I hadn't seen before! The cafe offers a wide variety of coffee options, juice and smoothie options, baked good options, and a deli that caters to all diets. Admittedly, things are a bit expensive here, but I'm used to those prices having lived in Portland for so long, so it didn't bother me. Especially when everything was SO delicious. For my plant-based friends, they've got a variety of options including (but not limited to) a falafel wrap, a VBLT (VB = vegan bacon), and even a tempeh reuben that you can sub the swiss cheese for cashew cheese. My suggestion? Grab a sandwich, some crisps, a drink, and a sweet treat from their case (I once had a chocolate, cherry, amaretto vegan donut that was insane; more like a decadent circular cake than a donut though) to go and head up the street to the picnicking and scenic viewing area (which doesn't have any parking? So maybe keep your car at The Local Grocer and walk over [being super cautious of the traffic since there aren't any real sidewalks!]). If you're someone with special dietary needs, this is a FAR better option than the restaurant nearby. read more

Wow, had this place gone downhill ! 50 min for a TAKEOUT sandwich that is toasted BUT. turkey is COLD! My friend has had to send hers back THREE times! Delicious! Many options for the vegan and non vegan in your group! Excellent Jump Start Bowl with lots of fresh fruit, peanut butter and granola. Vegan BLT and Impossible Burger with a gluten free bun we're all yummy. The star was the fries! Huge side of fries, natural cut with thick, tasty ketchup. The wait staff were very friendly and helpful. We all loved the unique pottery that all the food is served on. We will definitely be back on our next trip to North Conway! This place is great, both as a natural food store and as a restaurant. Yes, it has some some of the cliched ambience you expect to find in such places but I'll take crystals and incense over antlers every day of the week. I'm a tourist here. Wickedly expensive. You can literally get ALL of these items for less at other places. The food thing is never open. No folks, you cannot just go grab a coffee. The "organic" produce is the same stuff available at Hannaford, as are all of the frozen products. This place is an out of stater haven and that is their customer base. Sorry but you're getting ripped off! Order supplements online and hit the grocery store for a larger, less expensive, selection. I've been meaning to write a review for a while. I've been going to The Local Grocer for years, since they first opened. (And even before that, when it was called Katrina's.) This is my personal favorite spot in North Conway. Each summer I go there at least two times a week, even though it is almost an hour drive away. I just look forward to going so much. The store has a really great energy, very welcoming, beautifully rustic and even somewhat mystical. There is a great selection of herbal and natural products, unique jewelry, and a variety of unexpected things besides groceries. There is even a yoga studio! Here are my favorite things: -the salt rock lightbulbs -the crystals and jewelry -the wild-picked blueberries -the spice shelf -the MACA balls and other homemade chocolate treats in the chilled cafe case -the homemade soups -the cafe that is right next door; amazing breakfast! Also the manager, Alexandria, is incredibly nice. I look forward to going back when I visit New Hampshire again next summer! read more

My husband my daughter and I went to The Local Grocer for Sunday brunch. It was a long line and a long wait for an order. Finally when my fresh fruit bowl and granola with almond milk came, i was disappointed seeing a banana and apple slices as a fresh fruit in the summer. Also, my granola had a big black bug in it. I returned my bowl to our waiter and I placed a different order which I waited for about 30 min but never received. when I told this to my waitress, she just laughed and said that they were too busy. When my picky son balked on going to my stand by, Flatbread Pizza Company, I decided to go get a sandwich at a place I know I would love. I definitely prefer to skip the greasy burger and fries which I can get any time. usually places that serve organic food use unique ingredients. I had fantastic pesto chicken on a gluten-free wrap. the store itself here also has a ton of things. I know that some people said that things here were overpriced, but where I come from, these prices are very reasonable actually. so, while I didn't get to enjoy some of my favorite pizza, I did really like my rib. Did you have to have a little bit of time to set aside to wait for the food because they are busy. They are efficient with their help, and I found that refreshing.. Walking out, I noticed that they had some delicious vegan raviolis as well. Not my thing, but very cool. read more

The store itself has a plethora of organic, local items and is very well stocked and organized. The employees, on the other hand, are super judgmental, defensive and pretty much the opposite of friendly. I returned an item that I had purchased less than 24 hours prior that had poor packaging and also my skin didn't agree with. I was met with immediate resistance from two employees that almost took it way too personal that I was returning a product I wasn't satisfied with. I understand the return policy but do not understand the amount of attitude I received; it was totally unwarranted and unprofessional. I spent a decent amount of money at this store and was put off by the rude attitudes of the employees so I'll be taking my hard earned money elsewhere next time I'm in the North Conway area. read more

I would normally without hesitation give this place five stars. My friends and I stop here as we love all spiritual things. On the way home from hiking, we pick up essential oils, crystals, yoga items, you name it. Yesterday, my husband and I stopped here around 2:00 Sat afternoon. It was his first time here. As usual, I love all the vegan options and oils so I overspend, no big deal. Then, we decide we want to eat lunch here. There's no one there to seat us even though we see available seating. We wait until the gentleman reappears. We ask him for a table for two. He hesitates and says "uhhhh..... it'll be about 10 minutes in order to prepare a table". We say No problem. We can see there's space at the bar so we let him know that we'll wait at the bar and have a drink while we wait. The employee then says "Uh....no.....I don't want to overwhelm the server." What? We can't even have a drink at the bar while waiting? I am not kidding! He wouldn't allow us to have a seat at bar (that had available seating!) because he didn't want to overwhelm the server. We said ok and left the place. We continued south and ate at Hobbs Tavern where we definitely felt more welcome. Sadly my husband won't even give this place a second chance. What happened to my place of peace!? I'm a native that comes home for the Summer/Autumn. I've always this place for yoga, lunch and shopping with Bliss. Today I entered a negative environment. I went for yoga and the class was cancelled...no problem. Life happens. I decided to have a snack...saw the Turk Soup...Mmmm. Sounded yummy. I'm thinking a Turkish soup from the ingredients. Chick peas, etc. The gal charged me extra for the meat. "What meat?" I ask. She looked at me like I was kidding. I look at the ingredients and still am confused. Aha...you mean it's Turkey soup!? My mistake. No prob...that's life ;). I'm given the soup, I ask "is there a spot to indulge"? (They had a sweet spot to sit once). Another lady shrugged and said ok...take a seat in there. I sit down to eat and relax...I open my container of 'Turk Soup' and there are plenty of carrots...and more carrots...a few onions and nothing else. Hmmm...oh well. Its hot and I really wanted to simply relax. halfway thru my soup, another lady comes over and explains to me that this is actually a paying dining place and it's ok for now but...at this point I SMH and stated "ok, you've managed to finally get to me... I'll eat my soup in my vehicle." The lady was trying to be nice but it was the last catalyst. I'm used to pleasant environments. I am trained as a yoga instructor myself and my parents had a sucessful restaurant for 35 years in the valley. I'll miss the old Be Well. read more

This place is new but they've got it bang on!! It's a grocery store with an art gallery attached which is awesome and the food is as stunning as the art. They have a great loose grains, nuts etc section and the produce looked really fresh. In addition to the supermarket items, they also have a food counter and all I can say is WOW!!!!! So I realize when you start with a "health food" store, you expect to pay a a little more for quality. I'm OK with that....BUT, $12.00 for a small tuna wrap??? Seriously??!!! My husband ordered the soup which was hardly more than salted water with few veggies....I let him eat part of my small wrap. Our stomachs were queeezy all afternoon!!! The LocalGrocer is probably the best find in all of Conway. It's an amazing Natural Food market and apothecary with very knowledgable, friendly and welcoming staff. Everyone has a vibe that they love being there. The cafe is phenomenal. It is without a doubt the best hang out for s simple and delicious Yerbe matte latte, smoothie, coffee break or warming homemade soup. I highly recommend the Happy Belly Salad for lunch. The breads are amazing as well. Lastly...raw chocolate that is so good you will lose sleep. Upstairs is a yoga studio with all types of classes from vinyasa to restorative. It is a must go place if you are visiting Cranmore or any of the White Mountains year round! read more

Large beautiful store (love the building). They have an excellent selection of vegan soy-free ingredients in their store. We saw Daiya shreds & cream cheese, Earthbalance soy-free butter (tubs and sticks!) Field roast (sausage & slices), and a soy-free veggie burger option. They carry whoopie pies and muffins from Peace of Mind, yum. And that's just the refrigerated section! They also have veggies. The dry goods include Eden canned beans, Annie's soups, all the cooking oils you would need, cereals, protein powders, bars, snacks, etc. Essentially, they carry all the good stuff. They also have a small bulk food section: quinoa, oats, dry fruit etc. There is a cafe, which I can't wait to try to breakfast/lunch/etc (cashew-based cheese available). Smoothies, coffee drinks, and Juice. Prices are a little high, but where else will you find this stuff up here. And they have even more items - Art, cards, lotions/potions, yoga accessories. On a recent trip to Mt. Washington Valley we decided to check out the Local Grocer. The ambience is earthy and welcoming--a nice change of pace from the "canned" local tourist spots. I ordered a large salad & it came with really fresh veggies & a wonderful tahini dressing. My dining patner had a tempeh "Reuben" sandwich which was actually quite tempting looking, although I am not a big fan of tempeh. We came back again & this time I had a spinach wrap in a whole wheat tortilla --- lots of really fresh veggies, marinated beet salad, onions, etc. and that wonderful lemon tahini dressing. The food is excellent BUT--- & this is not a major criticism------ rather expensive for portion size. $9.00 is not a fortune but for a rather small sandwich I think it's on the higher side . With that said, the variety of vegan/ vegetarian food is huge, meals well executed and quality is top notch. But with these prices and knowing the economy in NH, I doubt if many locals frequent this place. read more
