We normally love Chilis however this particular location apparently has a "policy" that you have to be 17 or older to dine or have a parent with you. My son (17) stopped by with a friend (16) after a movie and were asked for IDs as soon as they walked in the door. As soon as they said their ages, the hostesses turned their noses up and said "we can't serve you", my son and his friend were baffled and said they weren't there to drink or anything just dinner and were once again told condescendingly, you can't eat here. Not sure if this particular location has had issues with teens dining and dashing but it really rubbed my son the wrong way being profiled and talked down to like that. My sister, nieces, and I decided to stop in Chili's for dinner. I haven't been here in a while so I was looking forward to the experience. It was a nice ambiance for a Wednesday evening and our server Rob was pretty pleasant and outgoing. We got chips and dip and mozzarella sticks for our appetizers. Our chips came out but the mozzarella sticks got over looked and came out closer to our entrees. What can I say? I love this place on The Avenue. It's like a staple since it's been here so long. Come hungry because the food is delicious and the portions are huge. So it was the day before Christmas Eve and the parking outside was completely insane. Based on that, we thought that it would be totally packed and we'd probably be waiting an hour to get in. Much to our surprise, we were seated right away. It was busy for sure, but there were available tables. The staff looked a little tired, which is reasonable given the circumstances. Our waitress came right out, took our drink orders, took our food orders, and was super friendly. Our food did take an unusually long time to come out. Hello. I was at the restaurant on Saturday ( quick date), anyway, I had a salad with grilled chicken ( quesadilla explosion salad) . It also had small squares cheese quesadilla ( four pieces ). The salad was fine. However, the quesadilla wasn't grilled hard or crispy enough. Had it been, it would have added to the salad. I only ate one square. My date had salmon, and it looked great. He was satisfied with it. I also love that they have a guiltless menu with great looking items. The waitress was good and accommodating. The bar area was clean, and the noise level was fine for a family restaurant . If you want less foot traffic, a booth outside of the bar area is best. It's been years atleast 7 since I have visited this establishment. However my niece and my 3 old requested we have lunch here after our tots @ 10 event . We got there just close to 12 . I could definitely tell they were understaffed . However , an employee who was not scheduled to work that day , was visiting the restaurant jumped in quick and helped out her team at the hostess stand . 15 mins later we were seated . This was a weekday visit, and we were craving ribs. From previous experiences. we knew Chili's are terrific. Plus, we had an online offer for buy 1 entree, get the next for half off on the same visit. We like this Chili's because of excellent service and good food. Also, through the Upside app, it has a deal, If you pay through the particular restaurant app, you get a kickback. Well, I refuse to add yet another app, so there is no benefit. This is a ploy (probably corporate) to bring people in with another bothersome app. No thanks. So the bottom line is if you don't have the Chili's app and hook your credit card to it for payment, you are out of luck on Upside. I have noticed other chains doing this, and again, no thanks and no business for you from us. The server had many tables, and she was rushed but handled it well. She did have a kitchen runner bringing out orders. That was good!! Except he had tunnel vision, and it would be helpful if he deviated slightly from his task...you know, extra napkins, where's the bathroom, just generalities, no eye contact what so ever. The ribs were excellent as usual, my husband had the bbq, and my preference is dry rubbed. The French fries were hot and really good, I asked for vinegar, and she said they don't have any. Wow! Each meal has 2 sides. He chose French fries and white cheddar Mac and cheese. Both were a hit. I had the French fries and Mexican street corn. I have a guilty pleasure of loving Chili's, but it's not super great. Definitely recommend any of their margaritas...they do that well! We started with our usual appetizer of skillet queso. Classic and so good. The tortillas were warm and salty, and just a great complement to the queso with beef. I decided to try something new and had the Queso Burger. It was nice and juicy, and the queso was a nice touch. I ordered the roasted Street corn, which was so full of flavor! I appreciate that they have added new menu items, like the smokehouse section. I also appreciate that they have those mini iPads on the tables, which keep my kids occupied. My kids ate all of their food, which is rare. So overall the food was good. But the service is just not great. Needing to wait long for refills, wait long for the food, and waiting a long time for the check. Might be that we had a new/inexperienced waiter. There was 3 of us and the wait was an hour. We waited about 15 minutes for bar seats which was fine. One of us just wanted to get the Witches Brew Margarita. We sat there for about 5 minutes before the bartender came and cleaned the bar spot we sat at and took our drink orders. One Witches Brew Margarita, a coke zero, and a hot coffee, also two waters. The margarita was made quickly but was severed in a regular cup and not a margarita glass. We waited another 10 minutes for our coke, hot coffee, and waters. The coffee came cold. Not even warm. We had to send it back and wait for another. We also got the molten cake. There was no molt to the molten. The chocolate inside was pretty non-existent. Very disappointed. There was also a kid around 12 holding a baby around 1, sitting at the bar with their mom. Nobody said anything. Also, one of the bartenders was literally picking up the lemons and putting them in drinks she was putting out. There was a pair of tongs right there. But she wasnt using them. You know what Chili's could use (besides more wait staff)? A larger waiting area. It is such a horrible feeling to come into a restaurant and be immediately met with a crush of people. Especially in this time of Covid, people should not be forced to practically have to sit on each other's laps while waiting to be taken to their table. It is also SUPER FRUSTRATING when you are a person in a wheelchair and there's absolutely nowhere to "park" that isn't right in the middle of the walkway. We were told there would be up to a 40 minute wait, so we decided to walk around The Avenue. Plenty of new restaurants, wish we would have eaten at one of those, but we had a gift card. I do like how Chili's takes your cell number in order to text you when your table is ready, but we had taken an entire lap around The Avenue without a text, so we sat outside until it started raining. Forced back into the restaurant we were seated immediately in a dining room that was 80% empty. Seriously, there were maybe four tables of patrons. It then took about 20 minutes for us to receive our drinks. None of us got anything exotic. I asked for water, for Pete's sake. So we order and I'm confused - why do all the sides and appetizers come in these ugly little metal baskets? My boyfriend's chicken wings (buffalo flavored. He liked them, but I'll never understand the appeal when there are so many other sauces available) didn't even fit in it and spilled out onto a plate. Why use these baskets AND a plate? Since when can't fries come on the same plate as your burger? And all the baskets are lined with paper, which makes the whole thing seem doubly as wasteful to me. And why do utensils come in these strange brown paper bags? We got fried pickles to start and they were good, but the "house-made" ranch dipping sauce is lackluster. Give me so horseradish or tiger sauce, something with a little zip, or at least a little flavor at all. For our meal the boyfriend had some kind of burger with onions and bleu cheese, which he enjoyed but he stated over and over that it's hard to mess up a burger... from some of the reviews I just read on this page, it seems many would disagree but at least HE was happy. I got the Southwest Eggrolls. I haven't had those in decades and I remember them tasting A LOT better. Again with some insipid dipping sauce, this time green. I choked one down and brought the rest home where I dipped them in hot sauce and sour cream. My mother got the ribs... you remember those commercials about the "baby back, baby back ribs"? That guy must be horrified at what has become of Chili's ribs. You can have your choice of two different sauces or a dry rub. I was expecting that glorious sweet sauce, but they came covered in what seemed to be mustard seeds or stone ground mustard and THEN the sauce and it was disgusting. What a disappointment. My mom took them home but I'm pretty sure she gave them to her Hoover of a husband. Sure, it has been at least 20 years since I ate at Chili's, but I did not expect for everything from the service to the flavor of the food to have slid so far downhill. We will never return, and I wouldn't be surprised if this restaurant chain slid off the face of the earth in the next couple of years. Nothing to see here. Would not recommend. read more
