So I found myself out in Hiddenbrooke visiting my mother and we decided to go get lunch-didn't really feel like driving too far after driving down from Sacramento so we chose the local restaurant in Hiddenbrooke,which I've always kind of enjoyed-The Loft Thai and Sushi located in Hiddenbrooke. This place is located in a small multi tenant shopping center located near the entrance of Hiddenbrooke with ample parking-so that was nice. This restaurant is for sure a local restaurant that serves the Hiddenbrooke community with most of their patrons being locals from the community.That was what we found upon arrival,most of the customers did seem to be locals in for a quick lunch. I would describe this place as an Asian fusion restaurant.-the depth of their menu was surprising-like "Cheesecake Factory-esque" level depth of menu.Their sushi menu was many pages and I hadn't even planned on getting sushi but after looking at this menu,I had to try something-so went with a simple Spicy Tuna Roll ($12.95). Off the Thai menu we decided to go with the Trio Meat Fried Rice ($20.95) Virgin Drunken Noodle ($18.95) Pad See U ($16.95) and Drunken Noodle ($16.95) Well I don't consider myself an expert when it comes to Asian fusion but I've had it more than a handful of times-so I can say with confidence that the food here was pretty good- very tasty-the Virgin Drunken Noodles were Interesting due to their use of glass noodles-the beef in that dish was seasoned well.I ordered my Drunken Noodles spicy and for that they delivered,quite a spicy dish.The Pad See U had really good veggies on it-very tasty and snappy. The Spicy Tuna Roll was pretty standard-the highlight being I somehow got my mother to try sushi for the 1st time by eating a piece of this sushi roll-she didn't hate it which I think is a pretty good review from a 73 year old Native American woman trying sushi for the 1st time. My friend and I have been regularly going here ever since we discovered this place almost a year ago. This is our favorite local sushi spot to go to! I've tried my fair share of their rolls and they're all good; it just depends on what I'm craving. No matter the sushi roll, the presentation will always be top tier. Often times they drizzle the sushi rolls with signature sauce and garnish it with herbs. I recently tried their Thai menu and it exceeded my expectations. I've tried their pad thai, pad see ew, and crab fried rice. All delicious! I love their twist on pad thai, because instead of the usual flat noodles, they cook it with thin, chewy noodles and I'm a big fan of the texture. Lastly, the mango iced tea is to die for. It is hands down my favorite place to get mango iced tea. The way they brew it is so distinct and so flavorful with just the right amount of sweetness. We ordered the sex on the beach roll (delicious!) and the baked scallops (flavor was good but the scallops were chewy and overcooked). The pumpkin curry was yummy. We ordered it mild and it still had a nice kick. We ordered the special pad Thai that was inside an egg- it was just ok. Noodles were thin and aside from it being inside an egg, there was really nothing special about it. I made an advance reservation for a party of 14 for Saturday. There was a variety of choices from Sushi to Thai food order was taken and the food came really slow. Sushi orders were coming one at a time and the food orders took a very long time there was only one person cooking we were the only patrons at the restaurant. The menu is mixed with cooked food and sushi, plenty of options for everyone. Salmon Tower is fresh and a great way to start any meal. The Pad Thai is probably the best we've ever had. Had an amazing sushi meal to-go here recently! I actually ordered my food through Yelp, and it was ready for pick up reasonably quickly. On to the food! We ordered a main dish for each of us, and some sushi rolls on the side to share. I had the salmon poké bowl, which was very tasty! The rest of my group had either the beef teriyaki bowl or the shrimp tempura bowl. I was told they were both good, with the shrimp tempura bowl being the better of the two. As far as rolls, we ordered spicy tuna, salmon, caterpillar, and Alaska rolls. They were all good, but the specialty rolls were delicious! Lastly, we also split piece of yellowtail, which was super yummy. The yellowtail came with rice, which was nice. I don't think I've seen yellowtail come with rice before at other places. Visited on a Friday evening. The place was nearly empty. It took nearly 20 minutes to get a server to order drinks. Drinks then came out one, by one for a table of 5. It then took another 20 minutes to order food, patiently waiting. Keep in mind, there were only 2 other tables occupied. When the food came out, it was decent. Some in our party ordered spicy, others did not. It was all spicy. For the price of the food, portions were on the small side and did not completely impress. Ambiance is nice. We wanted to try a new sushi bar for lunch without having to go too far out of town. The Loft Thai & Sushi Bar just happened to fall on our radar. The restaurant in itself was very clean & empty. We came during the middle of the day in the middle of the week when everyone should be at work... except us. Upon entering, the place was super smokey inside to a point where my throat became a little soar. I'm guessing it was from the cook intensely grilling up his lunch. We asked the host if he could open the door to air out the place, but he just cranked up the AC instead. After awhile, the air eventually cleared. Food wise, everything was fine. They had a pretty attractive menu consisting of Thai & sushi, thus their name. But today we settled for sushi. Although a bit pricey, even without drinks, everything was prepared fresh with a a beautiful presentation.. The short comings of an engaged staff is the missing 5th star in this review. However, not a deal breaker. May not be our #1 goto spot to cure our sushi craving, but we will keep it as an option. read more

Amazing Service! Everything was fresh and delicious. Definitely coming back! I got a few rolls: Firecracker, mango tango, and the salmon sunset. Salmon sunset was my favorite. Overall disappointing given the expectations. There was no shabu available on the day we went, so we tried several sushi rolls, which used the same mayo/teriyaki/sriracha sauce covering all of them. The rice was mushy and didn't have any vinegar, the salmon and tuna in the rolls were a bit fishy--just not a good showing for japanese food. We had the agedashi tofu appetizer, which was literally just a small block of silken tofu for $12. There wasn't even an effort to fry it. On the plus side there were a couple of standout thai dishes--crab fried rice and whole seabass with lemongrass. The basil duck was also flavorful, but a bit small with only skin parts (hardly any meat). It was fairly pricey, as we had to keep on adding dishes to satisfy the appetite for 5 people, and while our bill was around $160 before tip, I didn't feel like the price was justifiable for the quality and service. We had to constantly ask for things like soy sauce, wasabe and ginger, dishes had no serving spoons, wait staff was struggling for just a few tables. read more

The Loft is tucked away in the Hiddenbrooke golf course/housing community. There aren't many other restaurants nearby. It's quite out of the way for most folks. But I've been here a handful of times since it's a mid-way meet up spot for current and former coworkers. Parking is easy to find. It's in a small plaza. The restaurant has a minimalistic white clean aesthetic. If you're seated outside the views are quite pretty! They're very accommodating for large groups (10+). I've had some of the Thai food (pad Thai, pad see ew, etc) and some of the sushi. I think it was the salmon tower and a chirashi bowl another time. One time I ordered the mango sticky rice. I liked the food. Never had any complaints about it. Since it's fusion they have a large menu. It's easy to find something for everyone's taste. Great for groups! In fact if it weren't so far away I'd likely order from them more! I do believe I've seen them listed on DoorDash or UberEats. Service has typically been very solid. They don't have issue splitting the check or when our large group wanted each person to pay for themselves. Now that's pretty hard to find at restaurants. We live in the neighborhood and have picked up food from The Loft many, many times. Even though it's pricey, it's always been good. We picked up dinner this past Saturday and were shocked at how small the portions were - 2 small entrees, some fried rice, soup and a side of karaage chicken, for $85. We were even more disappointed in the quality and flavor of each dish. I'm not sure if the ownership or the staff has changed, but the food is not the same as it used to be. I arrived with three dinner companions at an odd hour looking for a really late lunch or an early dinner. It was about 5 pm.I was surprised the kitchen was open. The dining room was near empty as expected. It was a rather spartan space and the furnishings bore an unfortunate resemblance to fast food restaurants. Service was prompt and friendly. I had the Thai shrimp red curry which was tasty but deeply flawed. I've eaten this in Thailand and I can assure you the Thai don't serve vegetables this raw. It was like a salad landed in the curry. While I was busy crunching on the vegetables, I had plenty of time to notice that, except for the basil, there were a whole bunch of traditional herbs and spices missing from my curry. Thai red curry should change flavor gently as you spoon up a different mix. The shrimps were cooked nicely and quite enjoyable. There was an awful lot of curry sauce, much more than could be justified by the contents floating in it. None of my companions had anywhere near the level of disappointment I faced. I may have hit the one dud that exists in every menu. Or due to the odd hour the kitchen needed extra prep time. This suggests flawed customer service. Better to warn about a potential delay than to serve what I got. Or I inadvertently picked an item that I'd eaten in the country of origin and I would always be disappointed. But if I use the last rule I can eliminate 80% of the menu. Don't order the Thai red curry if you want something authentic . On the other hand the sauce was nice and the vegetables very healthy. I never even thought about managing my portions to fit diabetics requirements. It is merely disconcerting to the last spoonful. read more

Loft Thai Shabu offers a unique fusion of Japanese and Thai cuisine, which is a new concept for me while going thru their menu. During my recent visit, I had pad Thai, red curry, fried rice, and Thai iced coffee. The pad Thai was a delightful blend of flavors, they used a thin type noodle which I've never had before but it was still delish! The red curry was rich and aromatic but they were holding off a lot of the meat and filling. Was a little disappointed when it was just mainly broth. The fried rice was a comforting and satisfying dish, with each grain perfectly cooked and infused with a wonderful depth of flavor. To top it off, the Thai iced coffee was a refreshing and indulgent treat, providing a perfect balance of sweetness and bold coffee flavor. In addition to the excellent food and service was prompt. Overall, my experience was good, and hoped that our red curry would be more filling next time. read more

I am sad to report that my recent experience at The Loft was a disappointment. I live in the community and it was my first time there. I picked up a to-go order for four people so I picked up quite a bit of food. I had ordered tempura and teriyaki chicken. I know tempura to go is a crap shoot because it's best eaten right out of the fryer. My residence is less than 5 minutes from the restaurant. Unfortunately the tempura was limp and completely cold. The rest of the food seemed at least warm but this was very unappealing. Then I decided to try some of the teriyaki chicken. It was made with thighs which is fine, but my first bite was nothing but a mouth full of chicken fat. Very unappealing. I inspected the rest of the chicken and it had a lot more fat in it. I ended up not eating it. I am aware that thighs have a lot of fat. But some of that fat should be trimmed for aesthetic purposes if someone is going to spend a good amount of money on a dish with chicken thighs. I don't really think I'll go back to the Loft after this experience. I can't speak for their sushi rolls because I didn't order one. Those might be just fine. read more

Okay it's been over a year I have been coming here. For dine in many times and even take outs as well. Thai food, sushi whatever they are making I'm from city and such a foodie it's super good. Like literally Thai food taste good like authentic; and sushi also taste like high quality. I'm talking about sashimis and nigiris, less rice more fish. Also the rolls rice portions are non like other sushi places here. They have recently added Shabu. Omgsh very good quality. It took a little more than that, so we think our food wasn't ready to begin with and just started making it. While waited for our food, we looked around and saw that some of their decor and floors weren't the cleanest behind the kiosk. Some of the white furniture was scuffed. I was in Vallejo craving Tom Yum soup so I looked up Thai restaurant around the area and this place popped up with great reviews. What made me choose this place was that it also serve Japanese food. It's located in a small plaza surrounded by nice houses and the golf course, which is the view we saw while sitting outside. They have a good amount of tables outside. Our server, Memphis was great, no complaint there. The 3 star is for the food. We ordered a bowl of shrimp Tom yum soup.Which was perfect for 2 people. They also have by the cup and an even bigger bowl for more than 2 person. I chose medium spice and it was the perfect amount of spiciness. We ordered salmon nigiri, yellow chicken curry, crab fried rice, and crab lover. I didn't try any of the chicken curry but my boyfriend said it was just ok. The crab lover is crab fried rice with a whole soft shell crab on top. We both agreed that the crab fried rice was also just ok and that it didn't have enough crab in the rice. We also ordered Thai ice tea and Thai ice coffee, both were on a little too sweet. Out of everything I ordered, the Tom yum soup was the best. The food wasn't bad so I would give this place another try and try other items on the menu since it's a HUGE menu. I've been here twice and had different outcomes: the first was nice because they prepared a little cake slice for my mom's birthday. We ordered a lot of food and enjoyed ourselves. Last night was a totally different experience: the food was still good. But as literally only one of two tables seated, the woman serving us could not be less interested. We couldn't imagine what kept them so long both in taking our order, serving the food, or settling the bill. A serious joke only rivaled by Cafe Mystique in SF. (And you should check my review of that place.) I didn't go in, but mom said the bathroom was very dirty, too. It's a cute decor albeit you can tell they're scrimping to save on utility bills - in addition to cold, this place's ample lighting fixtures were also dim. The food is pretty high quality, with my only negative that there's somehow too much variety. If that's really a criticism. I also didn't like my chicken teriyaki came uncut and did not include miso. But the bowl of miso we ordered felt like quite a lot for one person, in a good way. Honestly I'm not coming back but hey, give it a whirl. This was a middle spot for my parents and I to meet between SF and Sacramento. Next time though we decided a nearby Olive Garden is a better pick. read more

When eating in, the restaurant vibe is very quiet and service is moderately quick. I have a feeling that most people usually do takeout from here, since this restaurant is located right inside of the Hiddenbrooke community. The takeout from here consistently takes about 35 minutes, which is what I usually do. The food is pretty good and there is lots of variety since this is a fusion restaurant, but can sometimes be kind of expensive. Me and husband stumbled upon this hidden gem. Ate here and oh my goodness, the food was amazingly delicious. My husband ordered the rib eye teriyaki rice plate and dragon roll. The Rib eye was so flavorful and juicy and meat was tender, melts in your mouth. The dragon roll was fresh and flavorful. Best he's ever had. For appetizers, we ordered the calamari and Japanese fried chicken kattage. The calamari with the sauce was amazing. The fried chicken kattage in our opinion was ok. We also ordered the tom yum soup and let me tell you we tried so many soups all over the Bay Area and this was the best by far. Also ordered the house special shrimp pad thai and omg you have to get the one with the scrambled egg in top.. that was a game changer. And last but not least was the lion king sushi. Went there for Mother's Day lunch, that's were a big mistake! When our first order come out we knew that were such a pricy dish, Tofu salads which cost $10 dollars and what we got only less than half serving of regular tofu containers and no other ingredients but a little bit of seasoning, then steamed whole fish only as it as my palm which cost $35, and in the California rolls they put in cream cheese which my granddaughter were allergic to all dairy products, for $200+ lunch every one of us are still hungry afterwards we definitely won't go back anymore! read more
