We visit about 2-4 times a year, and this most recent visit was especially memorable as we celebrated my husband's birthday and my retirement after 36 years of service. Went on 7/12/2026 and haven't been there in over 30 or so years. The parking lot was full but got a table right away. I don't know where everyone was seated so this place must have upstairs and outdoor seating. I had the Chickenwich sandwich with fries and a Liter Lagunitas Ipa beer. My husband and I had a nice dinner last weekend. We actually made a reservation online as we were driving over. Since we were early, we had a drink at the bar, and they sat us at our table when it was ready. We had a crab crostini (like a loaded--if small--avocado toast), really good. Then I had lasagna as my entree, also can't go wrong, and my husband had cioppino, which he always goes for. Paired with the fresh bread, everything was great. This is a really great place if you're all about ambiance. It overlooks the bay and bridges. It's super cute inside. The food is absolutely fantastic. I can't say enough about it. We had salads, crab legs (the drawn butter was heavenly), crab lasagna which was so flavorful and divine, clam chowder with crab on top (best we've ever had). Seriously, absolutely fantastic food. Our wait staff was attentive. Unfortunately because my mom was having issues with pain in her leg, I didn't catch our server's name but she was really sweet. I felt the prices were fair. I went recently and had the fish and chips with lemonade and it did not disappoint. The fish was generous and delicious and the lemonade was real. I also had a salad that was fresh and cold and delicious. The bread they serve is perfect. Been in the Bay for so long and I've never heard of The Dead Fish! It has one of the most beautiful views in the Bay for sure. We celebrated a birthday here and with the part of 10, we were seated in a private room overlooking the water. It was truly breathtaking. Our waitress was really attentive and sweet in taking care of us and helping with the cakes we brought in as well. Everyone in the party ordered their separate entrees and honestly seemed very pleased with everything. I loved the table side bread. They reminded of little French baguettes. They are a bit in the denser side but put any bread and butter in front of me and I am ecstatic. For my meal, I had the sea bass with couscous and crab cakes. I loved how fresh the sea bass tasted and it wasn't too fishy at all. The marinade was beyond and I can't remember the last time I had such divine couscous. It does get a little heavy since it is a little oily with all that good ol butter but nothing a mini baguette can't soak up! The crab cakes were creamy and filled with a generous portion of crab. The food felt cheapened the shrimps and crab size was very small. It took a lot or time and effort to enjoy the food. It's been 20 years since our last visit and the crab is just as delicious as I remembered. However the prices for crab are through the roof, especially given the serving size. My wife and I went a few days ago, admittedly for the first time in about 6-9 months, and we unfortunately were disappointed in the food and the menu. In the past, I would have always rated the Dead Fish as a five (5), but could not this time. Not sure why the change of all the pasta dishes are now macaroni. It seems cheap in my opinion. I was a big fan of the angel hair crab lasagna but now it was made with macaroni and was overloaded with butter. Just not good. My wife had the crab sliders which each had less than a tablespoon of crab in them and therefore seemed more like crab flavored bread. We sat at the bar and had to be served by the bar back as the bartender was nowhere in sight. By the way, he was very helpful and did his best to make the experience good for us. The venue of the restaurant is tremendous and well worth the visit. I do feel all of this can easily be corrected and look forward to trying again to see if they can get back to what it once was. read more

Portions are medium in proportion, so suggest going with others to get more for your money. Parking can be a challenge, so be patient. Staff are ample and super friendly. I'm thinking they have a B crew working on Thursdays.... There were 4 of us there for lunch. I am the only one that had a negative experience. Bloody Mary was basically water..... The prime rib was the fattiest slimiest prime rib I have ever seen in my life... Because I was hungry I ate a couple non fatty pieces and left the rest on the plate. The waitress was not personable to begin with , she said Sooooryyy when I pointed at the prime rib sitting on my plate. No offer to replace it or refund it... Breathtaking views of the Carquinez bridge and the Carquinez strait/ Mare Island as well. We went for my 59th birthday dinner. Was able to be seated without reservations instantly! Sat at a lovely table by a window, overlooking the Strait and bridge. Our waitress Tatiana was very attentive. She quickly took our first course order. Calamari, sizzling platter of mussels and shrimp, as well as a Caesar salad. The bread came piping hot. For our main course we had the regular cut Prime Rib (medium rare). Came with mash and spinach. So good! The Prime Rib is so tender it melts in your mouth instantly. Went here with friends and had a wonderful dinner. We sat outside under one of the cabanas with a view of the bridge and water. Inside is cool as well. It's even better if you sit at the sunken bar. The dead fish is my family's go to spot for Christmas dinner which has been a very nostalgic tradition of ours for many years. First I'd like to thank you for being open on Christmas for those families like mine who rely on the space to gather during the holidays. You are appreciated greatly. This Christmas I decided to order the salmon which was cooked absolutely perfectly. The side dishes it comes with include Acini, mixed veggies and potato's that are all the perfect amount of crispy. I really like that you have a few options for your preparation flavors. I went with the garlic, parsley, paprika, and butter sauce. For the tables we ordered calamari, mussels and enjoyed the complimentary bread before our mains came out. For dessert I ordered the crème brûlée cheesecake which was good but did not taste like crème brûlée. Overall, It was very mild in flavor. On Christmas there is a timeframe for each table which is I believe is 90 mins. All staff were friendly and service was quick. Our family has a tradition of coming here for Thanksgiving almost every year. Last time we visited, there was all sorts of trouble with their ordering system, but all of that has been sorted out, thank goodness! They were so full when we arrived, that we actually got bumped up to the Captain's room. It's in the back of the restaurant and as we were ushered in, we thought they were sending us to the exit door, but it turned out to be a beautiful small banquet room perfect for eight or 10 people. It was designed and decorated as if you were on a ship, with round portal windows and a beautiful underwater scene tastefully painted across one long wall. We enjoyed sautéed calamari, crab legs, fresh salmon, fresh halibut, and one of us got a Surf n' turf with an enormous lobster tail! The food and service was excellent--an overall positive experience. prices are definitely Bay Area plus 20%. What a disaster of a place from start to finish. Came here on a Saturday with a reservation but I guess so did everyone else. We had to wait quite a while in the over crowded entrance. The parking is super funky and a hot mess. Be prepared to circle around 4 different lots. None of it makes sense. When we got to our table it was SO narrow and tiny, I was wondering how we would be able to even eat. All our plates and cups already took up the space. It was stressful moving things as food came. The ambiance is horrible. Yellow lighting, EXTREMELY loud chatter. Everyone is screaming and you can't hear what anyone is saying. The poor server has to cover 3 rooms so it was impossible to get any service. Not his fault. He was actually very friendly and helpful. But the restaurant can do a better job at staffing. Well, let's get to the food. AWFUL!!! We got the crab lasagna only to be SO confused. It's not a lasagna. It's baked angel hair pasta in a lot of cheese and no crab taste. What the hell? The waiter told us that the menu was deceptive and doesn't describe it properly. The potatoes were SOOOOOO greasy and gross. I couldn't even eat the dish. It looked and tasted bad. The Cioppino tastes like tomato bisque and the seafood in there was over cooked with an extremely strong fishy taste. You can tell it was frozen and not fresh. The cream of spinach looked like boiled kale and had no cream. The only thing that was decent was the mussels but how can you go wrong with just mussels with butter...even though a lot of the mussels were partially closed. I don't think I'd ever come back to be stressed out before I even walk in from the parking, to the waiting in lobby with 20 other parties, extremely loud ambiance, horrible tasting food, and understaffed service. We ordered a ribeye steak dinner with their famously good garlic mashed potatoes and spinach, along with a whole Killer Dungeness crab ($69.99). That's where the evening went wrong. The service was polite but impassive... an award-winning poker face. While courteous, she lacked warmth and engagement service . The crab, however was the biggest issue: It was extremely overcooked and overly salty. At this price and given the restaurant's reputation, this is unacceptable. Overcooked crab isn't just a taste problem. Shellfish is a high-risk, premium product. Patrons expect careful preparation, proper cooking and safe handling. Serving it overcooked compromises food safety, quality and trust. The location is right on the bay looking out at the carquinez bridge. The interior is so fun- decorated with a very fun and whimsical style that feels like a last from the past. The views of the bay are incredible! We were seated in the other room that doesn't have a view but it regardless has a fabulous vibe. I felt like I was in a tavern from the olden days. The menu is extensive so everyone can have something they like, even if they do t love seafood. We got the fried calamari to start and it was crispy and tasty, and a very large portion. We also ordered the garlic bread and I didn't enjoy it much as it was very oily. I tasted my dad's house salad and it was just ok, a bit boring. But my entree was so good. I ordered the sea bass prepared with spicy ciopinno sauce. The fish was delicious and cooked perfectly. The sauce was so yummy. It came with a side of couscous and potatoes and veggies, which were crispy and well seasoned. My uncle got a huge whole red snapper that was fries with panko and served with fries. He said it was tasty. My other family members got the thanksgiving special and they really enjoyed it. They also got the clam chowder and very much enjoyed it as well. Wonderful water views. Menu has something for everyone. I started with some bread which was good. It would have been better if it was warm and the butter was so cold it was almost frozen. Second course was a cup of the clam chowder and it was spot on. For my main course I ordered the crab lasagna. It isn't the "traditional" lasagna style it was more of a baked angel hair pasta with crab on top. Extremely rich! We went there to have a drink, a small bite to eat, and to celebrate a birthday by blowing out the candles on our cake. We gave the cake to the staff to keep for us it was summer, and I'm not sure whether they forgot or maybe the fridge was full, but when they brought it back, the cake had completely melted and lost its shape. This place is quirky and fun, and it's definitely about the seafood. Coming here the restaurant was packed with hungry looking patrons. Parking was difficult to find, even with two lots on either side of the entrance. It appeared to have some parking across the street too. I had eaten here before, years ago... not much had changed. The decor, service and food seemed stuck in a time warp. There were four of us and we were seated in a comfortable booth, terraced higher up than the others in the main dining room. We did have reservations. I ordered the Seafood Unsurpasta with black linguine and chocked full of mussels, calamari, fish and so forth in a chioppino sauce. It was quite delicious and filling and I even got to take some home. The seafood was fresh and the linguine perfect. I love pasta with squid ink. I just got an iced tea to wash it down. Service seemed friendly enough, but slow. I figured with the crowd they were stretched and we seemed to wait a noticeable and inordinate amount of time for everything. That ranged from taking the order, getting the food to finally getting the check. Prices are high but not outrageous, and certainly fair for quality seafood. Gorgeous views of the Carquinez Strait both from inside the dining room and on the heated patio. Try to go at sunset and you won't be disappointed. Second, the food. I usually get the crab or the fettuccine with crab, and you can't go wrong with either. The bibs add a touch of whimsy, and everyone can use more whimsy in their lives. The ice cream sundae for dessert is just happiness in a bowl. It is huge though, so you may want to share, unless you're like Joey. Third, service. We've never had a bad experience. Sure on particularly busy days it can take awhile, but that's every place. But in my experience, service has always been great, with friendly staff who seem to go out of their way to make sure we're enjoying. 10/10 would eat here again - probably this month. read more

He was super excited to try this out because the restaurant itself is near the water and he LOVES seafood. I read the reviews prior to coming here, and I had a feeling that it would be a hit or miss with some items. Granted, I wanted to give his coworkers the benefit of the doubt because I need to try things before I give it a fair review. My husband and I came a couple weekends ago and we did not need a reservation at all. The restaurant itself was pretty busy inside, and they have indoor and outdoor seating. We opted for outdoor seating because it was a nice day and we wanted to overlook the water. They quoted us a 15 minute wait, but we were seated pretty fast. The tables outside were on the smaller side, so I wasn't so sure how everything would fit since most items on the menu are shareable items. However, somehow it worked and it was fine! My husband and I ordered the following: -Red Clam Chowder: unsure, but probably $13-20 -Crab and Spinach Fondue: $24.99 -Seafood Black Linguini: $39.99 -Crab Lasagna: $34.99 -Double Shrimp and Half Crab: $59.99 -Creme brulee cheesecake: probably around $9.99-$12.99 Total spent was over $200+ REVIEW OF EACH ITEM: -Red Clam Chowder: This was their version of a spicy clam chowder and I will say that the flavor of this was good! You didn't get too many clams and the temperature of the soup was not hot (more like lukewarm). I would still recommend trying this since I loved the flavor of this and this can be shared with another person as a light starter. 4/5 -Crab and Spinach Fondue: I did like this, however there were only 2 pieces of crab in the entire fondue. It was 99% spinach and cheese with crostinis. I do wish there was more crab to justify the price. The flavor was good, but I wouldn't recommend getting this because the whole point is to get crab with your fondue, not just two nibbles. 3/5 -Seafood Black Linguini Pasta: This is what my husband got and the flavor of this was good! You get an abundance of seafood with the black linguini pasta. Although he said that he could have done without the pasta, and he recommends just getting the stew by itself. 4/5 -Crab Lasagna: When they reprinted the menu, there was no mention that this would just be shredded crab with angel hair pasta, baked/fried into a dish and cut off for you to enjoy. I was expecting something else and not this. I have to say that I didn't enjoy this as much. It was SUPER oily and not fun to bite into with all the angel hair pasta. I would have thought it was regular lasagna, but with a white sauce twist. I did like the potatoes and vegetables you get, but it was still super oily at the end of it. 2/5 -Double shrimp and half crab: originally this was supposed to be a whole crab, but the chef "accidentally" gave us half instead. We opted to just change the charge to half a crab since we ordered a whole bunch of food. The crab we got was roasted, which was good but it dried out the flavor of the crab. The shrimp was WAY too salty and it came with two types of clarified butter to dip it into. None of which took away the salt flavor. I was super disappointed because it looked so good. Definitely would not get the sizzling plate due to how salty it is. -Creme brulee cheesecake: Idk about this chief. I do appreciate the taste of vanilla, but it was almost disgusting to eat. The crust itself was doughy and didn't seem cooked all the way. It was like some pie crust that was undercooked with the cheesecake filling on top. I didn't like this as much, but I powered through and ate this all when I got home. 2/5 Overall, my experience was pretty MEH at this place. We recently revisited this restaurant after a long time away and noticed a few changes. When my family and I first walked in, the host was a little rude and dismissive towards us, but our server was very nice and attentive. We ended up getting calamari and clam chowder as an appetizer and those were the best of everything we got! For our entrees, we had the branzino and cioppino. Unfortunately, both meals were lacking flavor and were very bland. While the view was amazing, the food didn't leave a lasting impression, so I'd probably come back more for the scenery than the meal. read more
