First let me say "Kudos" to the owners for staying open during the winter. So many places live off the summer, and the tourists and then bail on the locals living all year in Seward. The food is excellent, I had a breakfast burrito which rotates each day. Today's breakfast burrito was stuffed with Chorizo, potatoes, eggs, pickled Jalapeños, cheese. It was well seasoned, large and very tasty. There is also a salsa bar which let me personalize my burrito. The walls are painted bright, the food served fast and the staff was friendly. Living in San Diego, we are spoiled with many good Mexican restaurants. The Lone Chicharron rivals all the best. The quality of their meat is excellent!!! The flavors are spot on. Highly highly recommend this great restaurant. The inside is clean. It is fairly small inside, so I wouldn't plan on bringing a large group for dine in, but would 100% recommend getting it to go. You know you can trust the quality when you can watch the kitchen cook your food. Great place. Very friendly service as well! read more

3.5 stars. We tried the rockfish & elote tacos, burritos and rice and beans. All was good but not especially memorable. Rockfish was breaded and fried; I'd prefer grilled, but it was fine. The elote corn mixture was tasty and a nice vegetarian option. The burrito was a generous size. Salsa verde & pico de gallo had nice flavor. The white rice had a little cilantro on top and a tiny squeeze of lime next to it - I guess that's what makes it cilantro lime rice? Pinto beans were whole, homemade and in their own gravy. They had Mexican beers and sodas in bottles. Service was okay. There were 3 tables with lots of distance between them. Bus your own paper dishes. read more

Tacos are alright, the fish tacos were delicious, the other meat options for tacos were subpar. The real reason for the low rating was the lack of seating and the extreme rudeness of the cashier. I understand that the restaurant was busy, it was a Saturday and the line was out the front. However, the cashier had an extremely condescending attitude, harshly stating that food is only for be served "family style" and that two patrons received one plate. I was very understanding of this slightly absurd rule. The cashier also forgot to give me the water bottle I paid for, so I walked up to cash register and patiently waited for another guest to order. The cashier gave me my bottle in a huff when I politely asked for it. All of this was not a blight on the lunch at all, I understood she was probably very stressed. However, when me and my fiancé were enjoying our food, the same cashier abruptly walks over to our table and loudly states "Outside food is not allowed at this establishment!!" I was extremely confused until I looked down at my empty coffee cup, which I had simply walked in with me because with was uncertain if the trash can outside was public or not. I profusely apologized, and the cashier stated, almost yelling "Okay well if it is empty I will throw it away for you!", seemingly insinuating I was lying about my empty cup. I understand that working in a tourist area is stressful and busy, but I am perplexed as to why someone would go out of their way to make a customers experience unpleasant, especially if doing so would actually make the line outside stack up more. I love Seward and have visited often, but this establishment disappointed me. read more

Meh. I wanted to be impressed with a new place in Seward but it was pretty underwhelming. Decorated in pretty traditional bright Mexican colors with benches and some neat (but overpriced) local artwork on the walls. The menu is quite small. Basically just a few options for tacos and burritos. I saw the sign that said 4$ for a taco and didn't bother to look at how much a burrito was. I assumed around 8$. Silly me. We ordered one elote burrito to split while we waited for the Cookery to open at 5. It was tasty (albeit small) and I like that they have a salsa and pickled veggie bar but here's what bothered me. When you walk in you go to the counter and order. Then you pay. It's all the typical automated iPad cash register thing but what annoyed me was that they seem to expect a tip when you order for yourself, you seat yourself, you pick it up yourself and then you bus your own table. Seems a bit entitled. A tasty burrito...but for 15$? I doubt I'll be back. read more

Really disappointing burritos. The meat in the steak burrito was mainly fat and tendons and the burrito itself had nothing besides rice, beans, and meat in it. I asked if they could add sour cream or guacamole, but they said they don't have either of those. Overall, I would recommend skipping this place and going to the Gold Rush diner next door. read more

Maybe's it just because people love tacos so much, but I have no idea why this place gets such good reviews. This place has some of the worst tacos that I have ever had. Their carne asada and carnitas are horrible (I didn't and won't try any other type of meat that they offer). They're edible, but not even close to authentic. The service is worse. It seemed clear that the server felt we were imposing on her. Another annoying thing about this place is that they have a window between this restaurant and a bar. The people at the bar came to the window nonstop and the server waited on them first even though we were standing in the restaurant for much longer. The location has very little seating and is just not a comfortable atmosphere. We got our food to go. Their burritos are smaller than Taco Bell's. The prices are ridiculous given the quantity and quality of food. I love tacos, but don't care for this place. read more
