To be honest, seeing the bill vs the amount of food exchanged for it, I expected Michelin star quality. I live in a touristy area so I understand not all restaurants have to rely on repeat business but this place might take the cake. How the same chef/crew under season carnitas and over salt lamb barbacoa on the same day will forever remain a mystery to me. How you expect a lime piece the size of a quarter to flavor 5 tacos and a burrito will never stop confusing me. Serving the soggy bland battered rockfish to a paying customer simply put me over the edge. Maybe I'm spoiled having lived in California, having visited Mexico, and being a decent cook myself, but I personally would not go back. And for those tortillas another reviewer (who must be the owner's close friend) called homemade... I'm at a loss for words. Pleasant server and a speedy service are their redeeming qualities but I go out to eat for the quality of food so this will be a hard pass for any future Seward visits of mine. We absolutely loved this place! Even through staffing shortages this summer, they're making things work in a BIG way! We waited in line about 25 min to get a table around 6:30/7:00 on a week day. Once at the hostess stand we placed our order, and I would say "over-order" in terms of what you think you might want...you get one chance when it's busy! So for two adults (hungry after an afternoon of sea kayaking!) we ordered the carnitas burrito, two rockfish tacos, one carnitas taco, one elote taco, and one side of rice & beans. We got some advice from friends leaving to order this much, or honestly we wouldn't have! It was a great tip since portion size can be a bit smaller. More opportunity to try more things, right?! The carnitas were soooo good - juicy with perfectly crisped ends - you can't beat it! I loved the elote taco, creamy & a bit lighter. The rice and beans are really good - fresh & the rice packs the best cilantro lime flavor. We honestly should've gotten two sides of rice & beans they were that good, too. But the absolute best item (if we had to choose)?? Hands down the rockfish taco. Not only is every tortilla so fresh, the fish is cooked perfectly, with a crispy fried breading that's not heavy & perfectly seasoned. The salsas are also amazing, get them all to try! The taqueria looks almost out of place in an area full of burger and seafood joints. The decor is unassuming - about 5-6 small tables with pull up chairs. The menu is quite simple too: a selection of tacos and burritos. It looked quite busy. We got in line, ordered some chicken and steak tacos and grabbed a table. I'll start out by saying the tacos were good. Although overall experience I'd give it a 3/5 because I can't stand when businesses are cheap. They charge for all sauces no sauces are complementary with your order and don't waste your money for the side order of rice and beans... $5 for a bit of rice and a bit of beans. I am so torn between giving this place 3 or 4 stars. But I will go with 4 for now; I do really enjoy these tacos. Since my husband and I are pescatarians, we could only really try one dish: the elote. Since Lone Chicharron is in Seward AKA a huge fishing port, I'm surprised there aren't seafood tacos as a regular menu option. But here is my review based on the Elote taco and burrito. Let me give you the good: 1) The elote is genuinely flavorful. Fresh ingredients. Thoughtful. The corn tortilla is the perfect texture, the filling is creamy, with a light sweetness from the corn. 2) I HEAR the other tacos are just as flavorful and fresh. 3) Free delicious salsas and sauces for you to choose from (but be sure to only take what you really need)! You can add spice to the creamy and sweet taco by simply adding your salsa of choice. 3) Fun, colorful atmosphere. 4) The staff is always very friendly! The "eh, this can be worked on" stuff: 1) PRICE. Holy moly! I've eaten tacos all over the place and only rarely have to pay $4/taco. The burritos are a whopping $12, but I am still left hungry. The portion sizes are tiny. - Tip? Consider lowering prices OR simply adding a free side, like homemade tortilla chips to justify the price! 2) The menu is good, but small. - Tip? Consider adding guacamole! More options for tacos would be enjoyable, too. Fried avocado, fish, mushroom, cauliflower tempura, land and sea, butternut squash... the possibilities are endless! We live here in town and are seriously thankful Lone Chicharron opened. There aren't many decent restaurants in town. (Their sister (mother?) restaurant, Cookery is actually excellent, btw). I really believe this place can be a saving grace for Seward, but there are just a couple of things that need to be fixed for it to really hit the ball out of the park. Or whatever that saying is. Came here last night. Almost all the restaurants in the area were closed. The few that were open had long lines ... and this place had the longest. Since the restaurant had good reviews, we decided to wait in line. Albeit we were skeptical .... The first good sign was that every other person who walked out of the restaurant smiled and said that the place was worth the wait! And it truly was. We had amazing tacos. Street taco style with amazing corn tortillas and fillings that made me forget to use the salsa they provided. I tried a rockfish taco, a corn taco and a carne asada taco and all were perfect. I'm not a fan of spicy food and this was excellent, a touch spicy, just right for me. Came here for a late lunch and was surprised how busy they were. Every table was full aside from the one we ended up taking. I got a chicken taco and a fish taco. The chicken was quite good, but the fish was a little greasy and yet flavorless. I don't usually liked fried foods all that much, so I wish I had known it was fried before ordering or I would have gotten something else. That's on me though. Ordered the carnitas torta ( a mexican sandwich) UNBELIEVABLE! Made with a Telera roll, pickled jalapeños , lime mayo , tomatoes, lettuce and avocado salsa... you get to pick the meat filling-carnitas ( my all time favorite), Pollo (chicken), Carne Asada, elote or rockfish. Oh where to start, this place has stolen our hearts and our bellies. The atmosphere is very "Sewardy" and its a very vibrant modern Mexican feel. Me and my lady loved this place. They are very new to Seward and catered to our every need. They were very understanding of food allergies and even confirmed with us multiple times that they were feeding us food we could eat. They were extremely compassionate and made sure our food was dairy and gluten free and tasted absolutely delicious!! The house made corn tortillas were phenomenal and the Asada was everything we'd hoped it would be and more. You can even watch the incredible creations as they are sizzling to perfection. This is what a taqueria should be. Best tacos I've had in the 3 years I've lived in Alaska. I feel like I'm down on the Mexican border again.
