The bartender is amazing here. I took a chance on a drink i never had and I was pleasantly surprised. The food is generously sized. I will still get something different next time. Should've taken the bartenders suggestion haha. Beware the clientele can be a bit sketchy. Dont stay after dark unless you can defend yourself properly. Ill just leave it at that. We've always enjoyed the food at LW over the years. Today we met our neighbors there for breakfast which was our first time going early (9am) when they opened. I don't understand why napkins/flat wear isn't on the table or at least brought once you order a beverage. I initially ordered just water, the other 3 had coffee. I wanted to taste it before ordering as I'm so tired of paying $3-4 and it turns out so weak or awful. This wasn't bad, it was at least strong so I ordered my own but then it took her over 10 mins. to finally get. At that point we'd already ordered and it had been nearly 1/2 hr since arrival. She said it would be a bit longer due to just one cook on duty, ugh. There was a big table of about 10-12 men that seemed to take priority over all the smaller tables. We finally get our meals at about the 45 min mark, all the plates looked pleasing but our potatoes/tots did look really dark but we did ask for extra crispy. I ordered biscuits/sausage gravy & eggs w/tots. My eggs unfortunately were the only properly cooked thing on my plate. The tots so overly fried they disintegrated upon biting and couldn't even use my fork to pick up...which I've never experienced. The sausage gravy was more of a raw flour black pepper gravy, biscuits hard on bottom doubt they were made fresh. Obviously wasn't happy overall with my meal. Hubby had eggs Benedict w/country potatoes, he asked for soft eggs and got firm (no runny yolk, dang) potatoes edible but many hard, hollandaise good, ham on muffin barely there... he too not impressed. Our neighbors ordered their staple of an omelette and French toast which they were happy with. Not sure we'd go back for breakfast. Hope we just had a bad day regarding the cooks food and slow service. read more

As always ... lots... of food. We met with friends , 7 of us. We hit on Prime Rib nite Wednesday. Haven't had that special yet. It's was good not like a 5star restaurant tho. Meat a bit over cooked and lots of fat on mine. But I muddled thru it. The flavor was good. A lot of us ordered med rare which is hard to do if EVERYONE orders that! I took half home. So the meals are always huge. Started out with a quite substantial salad, then Prime Rib with choice of potato, & roll. That was a lot! Hubby was happy he had left overs next day haha. It's been a two years since the last time I was here. This time the clam strips were just ok. They were a little overdone compared to the last time I had them. Service was good considering the number of people all demanding food at the same time. The problem is the customer should be given the bill prior to being asked for payment. You're assuming that they got the order right. In this case they didn't. I only had the clam strips, not the cup of soup. Unfortunately I didn't realize the extra charge until after I got home. Been calling the location for a week & sent out numerous emails to inquire about possibly hosting a group gathering or such for a birthday celebration. I wanted to secure or get a section reserved. Really just needed information for a large party. No answers no responses I don't know how much times I've called & it rang & rang. So then I found another venue for a birthday dinner celebration but still wanted to stop by for cocktails before the surprise dinner I was planning. I phoned the location one more time to see if they had the burger challenge & someone finally picked up - the gal on the other line said yes ! So we went there & when We got there we sat ourselves & took us about 15min for a server to greet us & get menus to the table. I should have known then. We put in our orders with the server but were shocked when we were told that they didn't offer the burger challenge anymore. Mind you they advertise it & I spoke to a gal & confirmed on the phone. So it was like whatever's we'll order the burger & just time it ourselves. While we waited for our drinks & food a new server came to introduce herself & let us know she was taking over the table as the previous server was leaving for the day. The food took a while to come out but it looked like they had a rush so it was understandable & we just chatted & caught up with each other. Food finally came & we did our own "what were u thinking burger challenge" The burger consist of two lbs of patties 5lbs bacon grilled cheese as buns & a 1 lbs of jojos for 25 min. The birthday celebrant didn't finish the jojos & the last Pattie but he demolished the rest in 24min. I would have given more stars but I just felt like they lack communication with the employees docked it. False advertisement with the challengers & then there were kids running around in a "bar" & the server who originally was our server kept giving our table dirty looks. The service was crap, took forever to have anyone take our drink order and when that happened , after 20 minutes of waiting, food started coming out before a single drink came to the table. The two shots that we ordered came out, wrong tequila at first and when the new round came out, it was not the tequila we ordered so we had to fight with the server and bar manager to literally show them the at blanco tequila and reposado are NOT the same color. One is clear, the other a yellowish color. But they fought us on the issue and when we took the shot it was CLEAR that what they served was not what we ordered or asked for/ fought them on the point. We are leaving early to go somewhere else bc actually nobody in our 12 person party wants to be here or offer another round. And now we're sitting here waiting for our server to come start to close us out and no one is coming over to check on us or try to bring our tabs. If it was standing room only tonight I would maybe give some grace, but there is half empty restaurant so not much leeway for me. We'll actually never come back here again. Issa review update! I didn't even realize that I had written a brunch review back in 2017 for The Loose Wheel, but since then I've returned quite a few times on weekends for some karaoke and drinks. Sports bars aren't usually my vibe, but there's something about the Loose Wheel that keeps us coming back. Is the incredibly mixed, diverse crowd? Is it the strong pours? Is it the incredibly entertaining (and sometimes even good!) karaoke performers? I can tell you it's certainly not the food (I'm sorry, it's just not that great imo). But the vibes are IMMACULATE so you'll catch us here every now and then. They almost always have a delicious hazy on draft, and they also have the tequila we like AND they have pickle juice for picklebacks. It just doesn't get much better, ya know? If you're on River Road and looking for an evening of fun, definitely recommend The Loose Wheel. read more

HOWEVER, the food while not bad whatsoever is unfortunately lacking the "killer instinct" that Kobe and Shaq used to send Tim Duncan and the Spur's home so many times. The food is "meh," the prices are "oh h#$ no," but the service is almost always above expectations. The waitress was attentive and speedy with was very nice! On this visit I ordered some wings and a BLT. The wings were decent and had a good amount of heat. My only wish was that the wing sauce had more flair or more season to it beside just Franks Hot Sauce and butter. The BLT however stole the show, it was big and fresh and the bacon was very high quality. Unfortunately, each of these food items cost $20. Yes you heard that correct. $20 for 12 wings and $20 for a BLT and tater tots . APPALLING. I mean cmon Loose Wheel! The prices aren't even listed on the menu just like a used car lot! I want so desperately to come here more but the price makes attending your establishment on a regular basis a bad business move for so many of us. Stopped in after the fair concert. We were starving and it was 10:30 at night. Not much open but they certainly were. The waitress came and greeted us quickly brought us our drinks right away and our food came out amazingly quickly and was great food for a bar. Very typical but did have some interesting new flavors. We want to give the chef five stars. The waitress gets five stars for service. The only complaint I have about the entire time we were there, the staff walked around a mess that was in the middle of the floor where everybody was sitting and eating. I understand that this is a bar and I don't expect the place to be super clean but they could have at least picked up the two big obvious napkins or whatever they were that were just left there. They walked over and around them several times while we were there. It was the only downfall to our entire evening here as a first time visitor and if it wasn't for that or if I would have seen staff attending to it while we were there I would be giving this a five-star rating. read more

It took over a half hour to get our first drinks and we'll past the hour mark before I finally got a refill on water (and only after asking). Our servers rarely checked on us over the 2 hours we were there. The Ruben sandwich was tasty on a strong rye. The Southwest salad was disappointing because the salad was coated in bacon grease, and my first bite of chicken had a huge piece of fat/gristle in it. We won't be back. read more

Usually we have breakfast and indulge in a good omelette and biscuits n' gravy. However, today, it was lunch. We shared an appetizer platter filled with jalapeño poppers, fried pickles, fried green beans, sweet potato fries, and onion rings. I had a very tasty patty melt on marbled rye bread. My friend had garlic parmesan chicken wings. Although I do not have a picture, my sister had the small cheeseburger. We were very satisfied with our lunch. We like the loose wheel because we can bring the kids and it's a fun atmosphere for them, different than a regular restaurant. That being said do not expect to have restaurant fast service. This is mostly a bar so a quick bite only happens with take out. Daughter and I assumed we could share the breakfast pizza. The menu said it was 14 inches, but when this came out on a hub cap I knew we were in trouble. We didn't make a dent in it. Not because it wasn't delicious but because neither of us have large appetites. The hubby even had a slice and there was still half left! Home fries are crispy and delicious. They have some of the best sourdough toast I've ever had. Hubby liked his chicken fried steak and crispy tots. The boy finished his waffle breakfast down to the crumbs. Will be back for sure.
