I was intrigued by the happy hour. It's a cute little bistro with minimal seating. They seemed a bit short staffed and on the slower side, but they were pleasant. The Clams Gaitan were super small clams. Pretty disappointing and the broth flavor didn't have enough depth. It tasted like watered down coconut milk. There was no hints of lemongrass or ginger. I wouldn't recommend. I also tried the bistro steak filet and I probably wouldn't get that again either. It was okay but not worth the price. The steak wasn't anything great. The best thing I tried was the roasted zucchini. It's a small portion but lots of flavor. I did forget to take photo so I'm sorry! I will start with the water. It tasted weird and not in a good way. All 3 of us confirmed it tasted weird so I know it wasn't just me. The servers only response was, "maybe it's the filter". It was so bad we couldn't drink it. I ordered an iced tea, but after she left I immediately recognized my potential error. Luckily, the water was masked completely and the iced tea was not bad. We had to go find her to ask for sugar. My son enjoyed the kids slider, but there was one small slider and fries for $9.00. No. I had a burger. The burger needed something as it was a messy, visually juicy thing, but where was the flavor? The bun was pretty good, but for the price it was not a good value. My boyfriend said he can't remember what he ate and when I asked his response was "I don't know, but it wasn't very good though". We booked online for 6 people with a choice of dining or Bar and we chose dining because we had 2 kids with us . When we got there they turned us away because they only had room in the bar . The restaurant was half empty at the time . The hostess was very rude about it and refused to accommodate us . This has happened a couple times before . We came on a Saturday during Happy Hour and got to try a few items from the Happy Hour menu. Our waitress Lisa was wonderful and kept checking on us to make sure everything was ok as well as asking what our favorite dishes were. Our favorite dish was the baked Mac and cheese. It was served in a mini skillet and super delicious! The firecracker steak was also really good. Steak was tender and had an interesting sour/ savory sauce over crispy rice. Bread was warm and fresh, I recommend! Wagyu sliders were also yummy but I thought there was too much pickled red onions so it overpowered the rest of the slider. The bistro filet and dip was flavorful. We ordered both the regular fries and sweet potatoes. I actually really liked their fries because it was batter fried. The only item I didn't like was the pulled pork street tacos. I thought the meat was too dry and didn't like the cheese and creama sauce. Everything was shareable and overall really delicious. We went here on a Tuesday at 7 got seated immediately! I loved how the colors were dark and lots of chandeliers made me think of SIA a lot! Our server was very nice and gave great suggestions through out the experience! We had the Mac and cheese and the crab rolls as apps. The Mac was AMAZING! I love a corkscrew pasta with my Mac and the panko wasn't burnt like some places I've been just the right amount of crispy and gooey! The food runner who dropped the crab roll was hilarious and very right gotta cut into to let it cool! I usually eat 10 crab rangoons when I go to eat but one of these was ENOUGH! So delicious and the sauce was a good balance with the heaviness of the roll! My man had the chicken with carrots and mash, no notes PERFECTION! The skin was crispy with the chicken itself being juicy. Potatoes were so smooth and flavorful and love it with the charred carrots! My one note is I expected my dish the mushroom pasta to be more of a pesto consistency with wine sauce. So when I got the dish I was kinda underwhelmed especially since the mushroom was cut into half with the stem. I usually like fine cut mushrooms or thin at least for the pappardelle pasta. I have been wanting to try out this place as my boyfriend's aunt is an amazing foodie with fantastic taste and she raved about this place. I had this place bookmarked for a long time and was so happy to finally have taken it off the check list. We came in during their lunch and happy hour on a weekend. As we arrived, we were greeted warmly by our hostess and server. Once we were seated and presented the menus, we definitely took a bit of time to look over our options. My boyfriend got their French Dip and I got the Cuban, and in addition, we also ordered the coconut prawns and crab rolls from their happy hour menu. The inside of the restaurant is absolutely gorgeous with thoughtful and elegant décor, furnishing and lighting. I can definitely agree that this a great place for a date night or even a professional meet up. It took some time to receive our food but it all arrived hot and delicious. The coconut prawns and crab rolls shared the same sauce but it complimented both appetizers perfectly. The Cuban was very tasty as well as the crispy fries and my boyfriend was very pleased with his French dip. We decided to close the experience with the signature dessert, the s'mores and it was honestly probably my favorite ways of enjoying any s'mores. As our waitress explains how the dessert process works while showing off the amazing presentation that gives the s'mores an extra level up from your usual s'mores, I almost ordered another one because that was just how divine and heavenly each bite was! Great place to relax, eat, and drink! We sat outside because the weather was perfect. Service was great. Our water and drinks were never empty. The wait staff were attentive without hovering. Food came out appropriately fast. The food was delicious and fresh and the cocktails were really yummy. So another adventure going to a new place for dinner. I was told about HG by a coworker who loves this place. I will say my first time was not so great. Service was meh if not downright bad. However that turned around when Lisa came over. She listened to the issues and took care of us the rest of the evening to make sure we enjoyed our evening. The food is very good and yes it looks ordinary, but is is far from anything ordinary. They have different ways of making things taste better than the usually expected way and it's very creative and delicious. It's not a big place, and is cozy in corners making for a nice place to do date night. We have been back 3X in the same week. It's that good. Worth every star and more! We ate here the first time the other day and I already can't wait to go back! It's so classy inside, which is hard to tell from the look of the front. I ordered the chicken salad and tomato soup. It was so delicious! The bread was fresh and lightly toasted to perfection. Hubs got the Cuban (which I'll be getting next time) and French fries. The fries were hot and salty - in the best way! The only critiques I have are minor: 1) They don't have a kids menu, but they do kid portions of meals. This isn't really something that's advertised (maybe for good reason), but they will do simple kid dishes (chicken, noodles with butter, etc). 2) It's unclear on the menu that the meals come with a side and there's no list of the side (they offer a lot of variety on French fries- can't wait to try others!). The staff is very friendly and the restaurant is very clean. Prices are on par with the are and definitely for the quality. Portion sizes are decent, but not overly large. Went to see about getting a table last night no reservations and there was a 2 hour wait to get a table but we were able to sit at the bar. It was nice to see friendly faces on workers and customers. It was a nice environment neatly decorated very clean and smelled great upon entering. We ordered the calamari appetizer and it was easily one of the best and I struggled to remember eating better. Thick calamari chopped into chunks lightly breaded and perfectly cooked. Entrees were well rounded with quality ingredients and care putting together flavors that didn't disappoint. Was here a few weeks ago, left a detailed review, however, I'll assume ownership flagged it because it wasn't positive. That said it was both honest and fair and I assume they are well aware of the person referenced in the review, so at the end of the day, the message was received. The food was not flavorful, tasty or satisfying and service wasn't what I would call fast. The couple at the table next to us had multiple issues with their meal and were vocal about it. I can see what this place is trying to do and be, but this area is far from upscale. In many ways it reminded me of the Keg, but not as flavorful and if in the area again, I'd elect to go to Black Angus instead. When the consumer experience is this bad, the focus should be on correcting it, not removing reviews. Only one method fixes your problem! ***Please Note*** The operator owner in his reply didn't deny my experience or allegation which I won't repeat. Any business can have an off night, but nothing went smooth on our visit and again, the food and experience were regrettable. We felt unsafe and it's unfortunate Yelp didn't allow the entire experience to be shared. I also don't need tips on how to review. Per Yelp, 1 Star= Not Good. Need I say more? I'll also add for anyone that cares to read any of my 1 star reviews. Please note, about 1/3 of those businesses are closed permanently. I had a Caesar salad which was above average. My husband enjoyed his pale ale and I was blissfully happy with a lavender lemon drop martini. The service was quick and friendly. This was bad, all bad! Went in on a Tuesday, it wasn't busy 3 tables and us. The place was nice that's the 1 star. The bad started as soon as we sat down. The menu is disappointing nothing appealing at all. The bartender was literaly chomping food as she's making cocktails, and pouring drinks which is gross all in its own. The food, she ordered the sliders the bacon was burnt to a crisp and the paddies were greasy, and soggy. Almost as if they cocked them with a lot of water to speed up the process, all put on a bun with old lettuce, and way too much aioli. I ordered the steak dip first let me tell you, it's not as described the bun is dry and hard and has a small pile of roast beef. There's no steak about this. The roast beef tasted sour and old like it had been sitting in the fridge for too long long, only to be burnt and dried out and end up a roll that was way to much for that little pile of sad meat. I took one bite without au jus, then tried to mask the taste with the au jus but that was flavorless and boiled for far to long. We both refused to eat paid ate check, and we left. read more

Some of our favorite appetizers are the calamari, the crab rolls, the pollo rojo, ahi poke, the polenta & absolutely adored the clams! I have been disappointed that a lot of my favorites have been removed from the menu, ie the polenta with blue cheese and bacon sauce, the calamari has changed as far as what it is served with and the clams, which in my opinion were the best clams served anywhere! Much better then an Applebees or the Ram but not somewhere I'll go out of my way to experience again. The Sirloin with garlic butter was tender but the steak lacked seasoning and the garlic butter was nice but didn't do enough to help. The shrimp to make it a surf and turf were the real disappointment. Rubbery and unremarkable. Surprisingly the stuffed chicken with couscous was the best dish. Cooked nicely with a little spice. I clearly do not share the opinions of other Yelpers about HG Bistro.. and I will say, as a Puyallup-onian, friends and family living here don't seem to go here that much. To be honest? The food just was not *good*. Sadly. One dish was even sent back because it was so awful. That being said, I wanted to go somewhere local and fancy before having my baby last year. In Puyallup there aren't that many choices. My impressions: PARKING - Small lot, gravel, unmarked spots. Kinda tough. LOBBY - Tight. TABLE - We had 4 people at a long table and it felt a bit tight with the people behind us and at the corner. Some other spots looked nice and spacious though. ATMOSPHERE - Nice and pretty! Most of the stars come from this. The layout is a little strange with sharp turns. FOOD - Flabbergasted, we just didn't enjoy the dishes. Even the sourdough bread was just bland and cold. *Gorgonzola steak salad (kind of a plain wimpy salad with a small albeit delicious serving of steak on top) - $25 *Togarashi Ahi - sent back. Not tasty. The ahi was served cold, be aware. -$22 *Quinoa & Vegetable Bowl - okay. -$17 *Sage chicken - a plain chicken breast (not that well seasoned) in a soupy butternut squash mash. - $24 So, this place isn't for us.
