Before going to one of your old favorites, talk to the bartender and see what he or she recommends. Not in the mood for the hard stuff? They have a great selection of local beers and some tasty wines. There are also hot beverages and coffee drinks for those partaking in dry-January or for those who have chosen not to drink for whatever reason. Again, the bartenders can provide you with the best alcoholic or non-alcoholic choices. Grab a seat on the newly opened patio or relax on the couches for a nice group gathering. I don't find the other seating that comfortable if there for a long time, but hopefully once things open up and they have a more steady income flow, they can get some more appropriate wooden set ups to go with the feel of the bar. The food, wow, we have been impressed. They have a delicious burger, as well as many other good dishes. The menu has been hacked a little bit during the pandemic, but I believe most of the fan favorites are there. Even if you don't have time to sit and have a drink, grab some take-out or order ahead, and you will have a tasty meal to enjoy. *YAY MY 100TH REVIEW* LOVE this place!! I stumbled on this place on a Friday, just in time for happy hour. I was quickly greeted by the bartender and given the menus. They have a very small food menu. It's one page with small plates, big plates, and side dishes. They have an extensive cocktails menu with all kinds of wines and whiskeys, really anything your heart could desire. For drinks, I only ordered off the hh menu so I got the $7 Moscow mule, old fashioned, and French 75. They were all such good classic drinks. They were also pretty strong so I don't think I could do more than two at time. Additionally, I tried several hh food items! My boyfriend was obsessed with the felony burger that the second time we went two days later, he got it again. So that tells you how good that was. The boutine fries were so flavorful. It was a little salty from the au jus, but the boudin balls were spicy and the cheese curds were soft and chewy. It all made for a fabulous dish. The felony fries were good also! Oh so cheesy. The Cuban sliders were good but they didn't stand out like the other dishes. All in all, the food, drinks, and service is great! The ambiance of this place is cool and non pretentious. I can't wait to come back and try more things. I've been having my eyes on that chicken and waffles plate... BTW happy hours are from 4-7 daily and Louis is a great bartender. read more

So this place is back. Nice place to have a drink after work or take a date. The menu for food is limited but the drink selection is pretty good. The place is more on the pricey side but you can definitely take your time with your drink because they are crazy strong. They have several takes on the Old Fashioned and several mezcal options. I recommend the smoke on the water. They offer special food during happy hour that's not available during regular hours. Go by and give them a try. read more

My last review for the Lost Cove was pre-pandemic. I happened to be in the area and wanted to check them out again. They did not disappoint. On a Monday night I needed a chill place where I could have great conversation, not be overwhelmed by MNF or loud music. I've gotten food from here a couple of times during the pandemic and I've been here once before for a Yelp event! The food is so so good like think modern bar food with a southern twist. I'm personally a huge fan of the boudin fries with fried cheese curd and gravy--such a savory and rich option... I'd honestly get it as my entree if it wasn't frowned upon lol. The burger is also a very solid option. I'd pass on the empanada. For the price, The Lost Cove delivers on portion and flavor! This is one of the best bars in town! Their revamped food menu is phenomenal. Can't go wrong with the Boutine Fries, a take on Poutine but this one has slow roasted pork and fried boudin. They make a fantastic burger as well. Their specials are killer too! I tried their tomato stew last Saturday and was very happy with it. Can't mention the Lost Cove without talking about their selection either. They have one of the most extensive whiskey collections in the city. The Smuggler's Cove revives one of the best whiskey and cocktail selections in town and adds a focused and exceptional food menu paired with great service. The only thing I really miss is the dizzying and extensive beer list! In it's past life, The Cove was one of my favorite bars in Baton Rouge where the whiskey and beer selection was encyclopedic that always had outstanding service. I almost shed a tear the time I showed up and they were closed. You can imagine how happy was to see they claimed this new spot! The food here is ridiculously good! There is only 10 items on the menu so that ensures they are well designed and executed. I had the Brussels sprouts that were crispy and tender and cooked perfectly. The lemon sauce with parmesan balanced the dish and the hummus was a nice contrast. I was so happy with that dish I ordered the boutine (i.e. poutine with boudin). The fries were crispy as a base. The boudin balls and fried curds rounded out the dish with a nice dressing of smoky gravy. Both dishes were perfect and I can't wait to try the rest of the menu! The beer menu is significantly reduced but still has a good variety of drafts, cans, and bottles to satisfy any beer drinkers appetite. The cocktail menu is well designed with good complimentary components. I asked for a bartender's choice and had the Last Word with mezcal. It was a well balanced drink with nice smokiness. I only had one cocktail, but it looked like cocktails will continue to be a strong point. The new space is a bit more intimate than the cavernous place on Corporate. The decor is consistent and subtle with lots of wood and shiplap. The music and TV is in the background but not the focus so it's easy to have a conversation. It's only a soft opening, but it looks like Smuggler's Cove is poised to be another outstanding addition to the Baton Rouge scene! Long live the Cove! read more

Hated to see the Cove close it's doors, but glad to see it was reimagined one it's new form. The available food makes a better experience, but for other bourbon and whisky lovers like myself I am disappointed that the selection has been severely downsized. I attended a Yelp Elite event on a Thursday evening at the Lost Cove. I've driven by this bar at least 50 times but never really noticed it before so I was excited to check it out in this setting. We arrived and we directed to the area for the event and took our seats. I'll start with the drinks. We tried a few different special drinks and to be honestly I really wasn't all that impressed with the ones we tasted. However, I ordered a full sized drink at the bar from the normal menu and it was amazing, so that gives me more hope for the rest of the drinks. The ones we tasted were very flavorful and polarizing but just not for me. One was very sweet and sugary which would make a good dessert drink, but again, just not for me. Two girls at my table won two of the free drinks raffled off and at the end of the night both of the drinks were completely full on our table because no one was really a fan of them. One was a non-alcoholic coffee drink and one was an alcoholic matcha tea drink - neither one appealing. Again, though, the drink I ordered from the bar was really good and the normal menu drinks sounded good as well so I'm going to say the drinks at this event were a disappointment but that doesn't mean all of the drinks aren't great. They also have a pretty good beer selection too which I noticed. Prices are reasonable. The food on the other hand was AMAZING. I was extremely impressed. For a place that labels itself not as a restaurant, I really did not expect the food to be as delicious as it was. Every single item we tried was amazing and I would order all of them again from the menu when I return. I was extremely impressed! The servers and the staff working the event were very polite and nice and friendly. They have stuff like wings and fries . The wings are pretty tasty and have a little kick but not enough to make you sweat.. drinks are 7 to 11 bucks according what you get. We stopped in because we were staying down the street for the night. Met the chef, Ricky, and he hooked us up with his steak kebabs and then his lemon pie on a saltine crust. Had a great time drinking and eating what he sent us. It was excellent. Not really into all the whiskeys and cocktails, but they have a WALL FULL of drinks for your pleasure.
