Happy hour in the Lounge. Down the steep ramps. Cristina greeted me, she explained the menus. Noting happy hour is $1 off drinks. I did eventually find the happy hour food menu. Cristina explained you could get pappardelle and house made sausage add-on.. pink sauce. Oh.. wait... now .. when the food came... the flavors had depths I did not imagine. The Negroni...top notch expect a lemon peel not orange. The bar was busy. A group came in seating of 8 in the back. Cristina was covering that as well. People coming in hoping to sit and chat with her... a couple said they were going up stairs. Upstairs is packed... like a scene from a movie. Guests drinking chatting enjoying themselves. The wait staff love their jobs! They love the place. We all love the place. The food is excellent the service even better. Although overwhelmed... at times but with a smile. Game day.. bring it on..! Timbers.. $$. Drinks... food! Smiles and cheers and dishes clanging. I moved over to the bar to cover my tab. Still overwhelmed but you love the place. I had a little chat with the guests at the bar. The drink wasn't bad, though it took a while to get and the staff seemed overwhelmed. The sign outside said clearly Happy Jour Daily 4:30pm to 6pm. When we asked for the Happy Hour menu we were informed there was no Happy Hour because it was a game day. There were no signs that said that , only the sign that said happy hour daily. It felt very deceptive. It's not hard to have the right signs up, or to honor what your signs say. read more

This review is difficult because I am bursting with information. I could write a little novella about my little night at Gilda's little lounge. However, I'll do a short and sweet. Meh, nevermind, I'll make it long because like my night tonight, I want to savor it and I am very self-indulgent. Punchline is at the end. Skip ahead if you like. It's probably all that you need to know from me anyway. Prices may feel a bit heavy but I swear to you that when it comes to the food, you will feel it lighten your heart and here is why... This is actually Italian food. I can't even say authentic, it would cheapen Gilda's chef's spark. It was Northern, Central and Southern Italy. I was there with every bite. This chef travelled and trained in Italy, completely bypassing culinary school. I wasn't informed of this until after the meal but I was not surprised. He is the son of the owners, we were gifted by a hello from them. How very proud his mother was of him, I almost cried as she spoke of his travels and passion, so did she. Seriously. We took to the lounge. A party of six, a birthday one at that. We were served like royalty was among us. Then again, so was everyone else. Bartender and server both get gold stars because even people drinking PBR's were kings here. It was home. It was about people, food, love and life. Okay, so, the food. It's expensive. The menu is beautiful though. Not too long, dishes built up to masterpieces. They use all locally sourced products when they can though some of it must come from Italy. We tried almost ten different dishes. Honestly? Flawless. Every single dish. There was no envied meal of the table. They were all, well, perfect. We shared bites all around. I smiled. The food made me smile. It made me close my eyes. It took me. So here it is. I'm actually going to say it... Gilda's is the best Italian food restaurant I have ever been to. read more

Located in the basement of Gilda's restaurant on Morrison, the lounge is a great place to grab drinks and food after a Timbers game. I tried the burger, the calamari, and the baked cheese. The burger was definitely the stand out. The cheese they put on it - OMG!! I couldn't stop myself from eating more than I should have of my boyfriend's burger haha. It's definitely a bar vibe, so don't be turned off that it's connected to the fancier Gilda's above. Decent prices. Unfortunately I had an awful experience here last night. I came to Portland to explore and I wanted a beer. I found this lounge and was so happy to see a bar with empty seats. I sat down and started perusing the menu. Meanwhile the (quite possibly underage) young men next to me began to loudly insult my clothing and appearance. I ignored them and tried to get the bartenders attention. The bar was busy but not THAT busy. Unfortunately I waited 20 minutes while the bartender kept refilling other drinks and ignored me. She never even made eye contact with me or said "hey I'll be with you!" Nothing. Meanwhile the guys kept harassing me. Unfortunately this was an awful environment and a shame because I wanted to give y'all my business. Maybe normally it's a great place and last night was a fluke. That's my experience. read more

I had a great happy hour, early dinner, with my partner and a friend a few weeks back. We all enjoyed everything that came to the table. The service was pretty good, but there was some disagreement between two staff members and they were way too public and loud about dealing with it. Kind of made me uncomfortable. Food was on point though. Partner had the ahi burger. It was cooked perfectly, and the fish was excellent. I had the beef burger, odd choice for an Italian joint I know, but it was house ground meat and the toppings were excellent. Ordered medium rare, and served just right! We also had some shared items like the fried ravioli, which were delicious. Polenta with stewed veggies on top and the meatballs were both tasty as well. I will definitely be back, and would like to try the actual restaurant some time as well. read more

My co-worker organized a reservation here as a celebration for being a college graduate. We were all excited to check this place out but unfortunately, the service we received was sub-par at best in comparison to the amount we were being charged. My friend ordered a salad that never came out, even after consistent reminding. As a result, from the time we were seated all the way up to receiving the bill, she never had anything to eat and had to awkwardly stare as we all finished our plates. In addition, after telling our waitress my order, I received something completely different. I'm no bartender, but I know when drinks have been watered down significantly (i.e., when they taste like water- even Applebees adds more alcohol than what we received). The food was overpriced, small portions of pasta can go as high as $29 per plate. They refused to split up bills among our group as well. Overall, they were not accommodating in the least bit and we severely regretted our first stay here. My suggestion, if you are craving fresh pasta and prices that align with the quality of food and value of service you'd like receive, check out Grassa. Your belly will thank you. I now understand why usually when I pass this restaurant, it looks empty. read more

I was really looking forward to checking this place out, based on the hoopla courtesy of Yelp, Urban Spoon, et al... Our dining experience there, in my humble opinion, can't be reconciled w/the lofty cume star average. Look, it was early dinner hours (pay attention here... their posted info says HH is til 6pm, I got there and started our orders right at 5p). The place was low census, low energy, and uninspired in the overall rubric of service. The servers had us change booths several times even though, again, they were by no means crowded--- never more than a table or two other that ours, en toto. When presented with the bill later-- which did come after the 6pm, I was told that NONE of our entire, rather lengthy order qualified for HH rates b/c it was all ordered too late. About 90% of the entire order was completed nearly an hour before the HH cutoff, but it was clear that our waitress was going to stick to her guns. Congrats, honey, for a measly 10 or 15 bucks you cost yourself an easy to please and even easier with the gratuities customer for life. It's the principal of the thing, you see. Don't tell people blatant fibs honey, it diminishes the both of us. Plus, if you really do believe your own story, then you are way too sloppy with keeping track of your peeps. It was far from a busy night, so don't blame it on that, either. If offering thickly breaded, sweet (say it with me: yuuuuuuuuuuuuckkkk!) calamari, and spaghetti and gigando meatballs is all it takes to be considered Italian (and one of the best in town, according to the Yelp ratings!), then somebody owes Shari's an apology, seriously, b/c the quality of food was indistinguishable from the likes of Shari's. On the other hand, my dinner date REALLY liked Gilda's, and scared down the s'ghetti 3/much alacrity and great dispatch. She even asked for seconds, and then desserts----- which she loved every bit of, down to the last cannoli... My dinner date is welcome to go back anytime for dessert or drinks or whatever else--- I simply won't be the one joining her, as detailed above. Fair is fair. what a little gem! excellent italian food for a reasonable price, and an even better price on mondays!(all day happy hour) as well as an early and late night happy hour too. we went with the beet salad and the tortellini, both were delicious. big portions too, perfect to share if you want to try more than one thing. the service was quick and kind and i love that they're open until 11 on the week days and 12 on the weekends. my first time was last night but we're already planning our next trip back! worth a stop in if you're in the neighborhood or nearby for a timbers/thorns game. read more

First time trying Gilda's and it was SPECTACULAR!! Walked in through front door wearing ripped shorts, and felt a little awkward with how classy everyone was dressed, BUT the awesome Natalie Portman look alike hostess told us about the lounge downstairs! The lounge has a menu and they serve the full restaurant menu as well. The waitress was just as great as the hostess! Italian restaurant that serves burgers!? I had to order one and it was delicious!! Fresh bun, and caramelized onions made this burger! Also had homemade vanilla iced cream topped with the most amazing black cherries you will EVER have, because they import them from Italy... EPIC! 3 of us went, finished all of our food, and lalala loved it! We all know it is hard to satisfy a group at a restaurant, but not at this place! read more

Who says you have to suffer through terrible bar food just because you want to watch a game while you eat? At Gilda's you can order off the full dinner menu (Gilda's Italian Restaurant) even while sitting at the bar watching the game! The food is awesome, with fresh, organic, quality ingredients. They put a lot of effort into choosing ingredients (such as REAL cocktail cherries, and high quality vermouth) Service is good, pricing is slightly higher than average but not too crazy. Cocktails aren't spectacular, but they have a great beer and wine selection to make up for it. read more

I'VE NEVER HAD THIS HAPPEN BEFORE! Friends suggested Gilda's as we had not been there before. Friends reserved booth in the bar. I brought a very nice vintage Nebbiolo I've had for years. The server started with the rules about eating there such as no bar menu even though the booth was in the bar. That's OK. But it took so long to get the martini I ordered, it was room temperature. But here is the part I've never had happen. Waiter declared there is a $20 corkage fee (I expected that) and she HANDED ME THE WINE OPENER AND LEFT. She never touched the bottle once. Front of House here appears to suck. Back of house has it together as the food was very good. Will I return? Not sure. Leaning toward no. read more

Love the fact that they have more than just Cabernet or Merlot as HH/house wines. I had a very nice five dollar Chianti. Order the Ragu with Wild boar served over polenta. Holy wow. And don't miss the fontina cheese, bacon caramelized onions and served with crostini. You can order stuff off the dinner with menu, it's a bit spendy, but the risotto is so worth it... drizzled with truffle oil. This is a more expensive happy hour than I am used to, but the food is spectacular, and well worth it. read more

I just happened upon Gilda's and discovered a charming place for happy hour with delicious food and friendly service. The old Italian music and classic Sinatra playing create a great ambience. The soup and Ceasar salad were delicious with lots of flavor and garlic! The house red is very good and the servers very nice and speedy. Great place for before the theater! read more
