Dinner on a Thursday night in July. We sat in the upstairs dining room. Great ambiance, 6 tables. Service was very good, food was variable. I had the crab cakes which were delicious but small for anyone with an appetite. The salad was fresh and well sized. My husband had the duck and it looked very good, he liked it. I opted for the scallops and risotto- I'd say it was the least tasty of the apps and entrees. Scallops were excellent but the risotto was a bit odd. It was a massive serving with lots of ingredients but lacked flavor. Raspberry Crème Brûlée for dessert was just OK. Love the outdoor rooftop bar. Will try that for a drink before dinner on our next visit. There are cute rooms with pool table, seating and games. Complimentary valet service. Will be back! read more

Dined in for my birthday dinner and it was amazing! The location itself had easy parking on the side and the building felt like a welcoming cozy hotel/home. We arrived quite late and they did amazing at accommodating our stay! They didn't rush us at all and our sever was amazing!! Pleasantly surprised at The Tarrantine... Took a trip up to Bangor to see Lil Yachty preform at the Cross Insurance Arena. We scoped out a few restaurants in the area and decided on The Tarratine. We were beyond impressed with the staff, their knowledge on the menu and hospitality. Despite the banquet style they got going on, the building is old and beautiful with a lot of history. Starting off strong with the Calamari. We can confidently say that it is the best we have ever had. Tempura batter with the right amount of sweet chili sauce. Incredibly fresh as it was sourced locally. The seasonal berry salad was fantastic. I would eat that everyday if I could. The candied walnuts were so crunchy and sweet. The whole salad was well balanced and just a delish. We chose the Tarratine Étoufée for our entree to share. It consisted of Lobster, Andouille Sausage, and white fish over rice. Beautiful atmosphere, great drinks. Food was fresh and delicious. We also shared the crab cakes- they were good, but on the smaller side and it comes with two crab cakes so if you have a larger group one order won't feed many. But the food is very good, service prompt and friendly. Definitely recommend and will be back when visiting Bangor again. read more

Lovely atmosphere & creative menu. The cocktails were fantastic & it was awesome to have alcohol free drinks as an option vs soda / water. It was obvious that fresh ingredients were used rather than bottled syrups. We shared the lobster with mixed greens salad . My one suggestion was that the balsamic dressing seemed to over power the flavor of the lobster, but I really wanted to try it for the barratta as that's not commonly seen on menus (or even in stores) around here. We really enjoyed the salad, but would prefer a lighter dressing w lobster on a salad (maybe a citrus vinaigrette?). We each ordered a steak- ribeye for him & filet for me, which were cooked perfectly and had the creme brûlée for dessert. I never pass that up when it's offered. I made sure the server knew we each wanted our own as I wasn't sharing lol. Above all, we loved the ambiance. We sat in the cozy library on the second floor and the tables are nicely spread out to enjoy a private conversation. I would definitely recommend for a special night out. read more

The building's history is interesting and we enjoyed being able to explore the different floors, play a quick game of shuffleboard in the game room and see the rooftop patio. The calamari appetizer was good, however the entrees were quite disappointing, especially the etouffee. This dish wasn't at all fresh - the two pieces of lobster claw meat was tough and flavorless, and there was just a trace of white fish. I felt like I'd ordered a day-old sausage stew with very little flavor aside from the spice of the sausage itself -- for $38. The rice it was served over was incredibly dry. We ultimately spent $150 for the appetizer, two beers, and two entrees + tax and tip, and left disappointed. Again, it's a neat place and fun to see, but I'd maybe recommend going just to enjoy the rooftop patio. read more

The food is hit-or-miss, some dishes were good, some average, none were great, none were bad. The drinks were the only part of the evening that was exceptional. We ended up here on a whim and it turned out to be a lucky choice. Lovely old mansion style building with a nice upstairs bar, game room and billiards room. Apparently there is also a rooftop bar in the summer but not so much in January in Maine. The main floor has a bar and some comfortable rooms which are well decorated. The staff is personable, efficient and professional. The menu is a little dated but everything is well prepared with good quality ingredients. It can be a tough spot to find parking so the valet parking is appreciated. A great date spot. Will come again. read more

The staff were all friendly, reflecting Tricia's personable hospitality in their own way. So as you all know we had our anniversary this week and decided to try a new restaurant, So my wife called the Tarratine restaurant in bangor made reservations At 6:15 , we showed up at 6:10 got seated right away, place looked nice Good atmosphere, ordered 2 appetizers and 2 drinks my drink was good my wife's was sour but still drank it. At 630 a couple sat down beside us and ordered . It took awhile to get our appetizers no big deal Waitress was super nice . They say on there website that you have a table for 1 hr and 15 min. Had the appetizers they were good . So now it's 728 pm and still no food but the people that came sat beside us 30 mins after we got there has there food and they ordered the same as we did, so I asked the waitress why and she said I don't know but will check on it . Comes back and says it should be right up, but it wasn't So I ask to speak to the manager she was very polite I told her the senecio and she says we are going to give you free dessert I said you can keep the desserts and then she says we going take care of your meal. Which I thought was the right thing to do. So our meals come Very bland 7. Oz filet didn't like it ,so be it . Ready to leave and no one comes to the table ( probably embarrassed about what happened) So we left 40.00 on the table for a tip and left. Get a phone call from Jill from the restaurant this morning saying that if we don't call the restaurant By 1pm they are calling the cops for theft of services, Called and spoke to Jill who was the manager on duty last night ,And asked her what was going on and she says you left without paying I said you told me last night you were taking care of our bill , she said yes your meal but you didn't pay for your appetizers or drinks, I said are you sure you want to do this or would you like me to talk to the owner So he can make this decision, she says that's a good idea let me get him on the phone . BOB QUIRK answers and says you owe us 85 dollars for your drinks and appetizers, I said are your sure or would like to hear what happened, BOB QUIRK SAYS NO I DONT WANT TO HEAR YOUR SIDE you left without paying, I said your the first business owner I have ever meet that would not hear the other side of what happened but that's ok , I said I know you BOB QUIRK he says I don't know you and don't want to know you and you are not welcomed back at this restaurant. We've been meaning to experience this one for quite some time, our anniversary worked out. The flavors were extremely great, that made up for the relatively small portions for the price. That said we will visit again, flavors were that over the top good. Staff were very friendly and attentive but knew when to leave us be. A sign of good training. This was our second visit to The Tarratine. It was our 35th wedding anniversary and we wanted a nice meal with little regard to cost. To start with...the staff all wore useless face diapers making it difficult to communicate. Other than that, the service was friendly and the ambiance was nice. My wife ordered the Pecan Crusted Pork and Roasted Pear Salad and I had the Lamb Ragu with Mushroom Crostini as the appetizer. My wife rated the salad at a 2 and the entree a 6 out of 10. She said the salad was "underwhelming ". The restaurant rationed 2 slices of bread before the appetizer arrived which was curious. We had a decent wine. I'd rate my appetizer at 7 and my entree at 4. The entree was bland and boring. Sadly, it reminded me of Hungry Man soup. I can't imagine that anyone tasted it before sending out. One of the senior staff offered us a free dessert since I was unimpressed with the food. She brought apple crumble with a very tiny ball of vanilla ice cream. Besides the tiny scoop it was the tastiest part of my meal. The bill was close to $150 including tip and I don't think we'll be back. If you want a good meal (away from Portland) for a special occasion, we'd recommend the Arborvine in Blue Hill. It's a drive but worth it. It's too bad but it seems like Bangor Maine is where good restaurants go to die. If they start off strong using good spices and flavors eventually they get less and less flavorful. Most locals will balk at spicy food and inevitably the restaurants give in and tone down bold food. read more

This hidden gem in Bangor is a must for anyone who loves great food. We had crabcakes, Scallops and Fliet, all was cooked spot on the beef while a Kinfe was given there was no need it was so tender, and flavor was divine. The scallops were perfect pan seared. the price well you pay for what you get and with the perfect attentive staff and perfect food. I would dare say the best fine dining in Bangor I have been to in 20 years and yes, I have been to them all we love trying new places and how this one slid under the radar I do not know. This will become a new favorite. User the valet parking as that is the only downside here parking can be tough. But it is worth it. All ingredients were fresh the flavor spoke volumes to the craft Chef Ben puts into the food. Weather it is date night, your wedding, a workplace party or you just want to be treated with great service and great food. The Tarratine is for you. read more

Came here for a post graduation dinner. We were a little early for our reservation and were able to grab a drink from the main bar, and head up the 4 flights of stairs to the roof top deck. Enjoyed the fresh air and our drinks, then headed back down for a delicious dinner with attentive service. After dinner, we got after dinner drinks and headed back up to the third floor to the pool table, ping pong table and shuffleboard games. This is Bangor's hidden gem. We have lived here for two years and unfortunately just found out about The Tarratine this week. There is no comparison to their quality, ambiance, taste, and experience. Even before walking in the doors, we were treated like VIP's by Kelsey the head concierge who ensured we had a private room for our date night. Walking into the establishment impresses immediately, as this building has been immaculately maintained, with the smallest details (to include prohibition era bootleg lockers) neatly kept. The owner, Tricia gave us a guided tour and history of this remarkable historical landmark, and Jonna our waitress went to great lengths to make sure that our every need was attended to. I am a big filet mignon fan... The espresso rubbed filet mignon was the best that I have had, period. (One can compare to the taste and texture of meat at Del Frisco's in South Boston.) Ben, the head Chef came to our table, and presented our entree's in a manner commensurate with something straight out of a movie! Erica, the server on the rooftop bar was warm, inviting, and very prompt with service. She went so far as to offer to take our rooftop photo. Every single detail of this experience was thoroughly thought through, and meticulously planned by the ownership and leadership within the restaurant. Highly encourage anyone looking for a 5 star experience, at a VERY reasonable price to give The Tarratine right of first refusal. read more
