    King suite.....bears everywhere

Fairly good location, a short drive to the main part of Orono town, the black bear inn would be a recommended spot for stay. Everything here is black bear (local college mascot) themed which was nice. They also have a cute black bear soft toy in your room as a welcome companion. The rooms and beds are clean. We liked the room#102, although all the way at the end of the corridor, it had 2 windows on adjacent walls which shed good light into the room. The staff was friendly. The dining room is a bit small and the breakfast options a bit limited, But it serves the purpose. And the usual 24x7 coffee at the front desk. The big letdown was the pillows. All small square shaped ones and too soft and lumpy. Had a tough time sleeping, especially since we were there to write an exam...so the added anxiety kept us awake. Overall a fairly decent spot to stay.

I booked my room more than 8 months ago. The reservation agent told me I was the first one to book for homecoming. Imagine my surprise when I walked in and had the room right next to the highway. it was so loud! I was so upset. Apparently I was last one to check in. So it doesn't really matter when you make your reservation. It's all when you check in. I've been coming here for 7 years. Very disappointed with what I saw. what's a little difficult to take issue with the front desk agent who was clearly a college student. It wasn't her fault. But very disappointing stay.

I booked this hotel for a weekend while visiting my son at UMaine. Late Friday night as I was pulling down the covers to climb into the bed, I discovered the sheets were stained/dirty. It was late, I was exhausted and I knew housekeeping was not around so I slept on the other side of the bed, hoping the sheets were clean. I approached the front desk in the morning, with pics. He was very nice but told me nothing he could do and to email the general manager the pictures. I did - NO response. No offer to give me clean sheets, no apology, nothing. For the amount I paid, I'll gladly go down the road to the Hilton or Marriott knowing they would respond to an issue like this. Disappointing!

Bear that greeted us in the room!

A little dated, but this place is clean and comfortable. Staff is very friendly too. We had a room on the 3rd floor facing the highway. We checked in on a Friday night during U Maine move-in weekend, and were shocked how quiet it was (based on some of the reviews here). Beds are kind of soft, but good enough. Water pressure in the shower is strong. Free breakfast is waffles, breakfast sandwiches, fruit, muffins, cereal, etc. Good coffee! Liked having a refrigerator, microwave, Keurig in the room. Free Wi-Fi and free parking is awesome too. Would definitely stay here again.

Hotel began as decent. They allowed dogs which was great. We came here for a wedding since my wife grew up in town. Our dog is a bit skiddish and I explained that to the staff. They said no problem. We left for a bit to go to rehearsal dinner and when we returned there was a note on the door (see pic). Staff said if you stand by our door that she will bark, and that is unacceptable. Of course she will bark when someone is at the door, she is a dog! She said barking is not allowed at all. How can a hotel allow dogs if they do not allow them to act normally? Of course if she is making excessive noise it is not okay, but this was not the situation. Went down to apologize and clear up the situation, only to stop and over hear the front desk lady talking to someone and saying she is going to come up throughout the night and stand by the door as a "test." Needless to say, we did not feel safe or comfortable in our stay here. Keep in mind this all happened before 930PM. It was not late at night. We checked out a night early and asked for a refund. If you have animals, DO NOT go here. We have been to other hotels with our dog and never had an issue. . .

Good value. Comfortable rooms, reasonably priced. The location next to the freeway and far from town makes it less than ideal, however.

My sister and I only stayed for one night so my review is not based on a lengthy stay. The positives: - The price was $115 per night with $11 tax. Not a bad price for a night. - Spacious room we had a suite of two rooms with two beds per room, full bathroom, full kitchen, living room area, arm chair, sofa and balcony over looking the river behind the hotel. - The room for the most part seemed to be very clean. I did see reviews about bugs in the windows/doorways/corners however this motel is has a river behind it and it's a woody area. Bugs are to be expected and they will always be around a hotel room in a location like this. In our room we did not see anything extreme like what was posted prior but keep in mind everyone is entitled to their own point of view. - The view in the morning at dusk is amazing of the river. It was a beautiful chilly fall morning that you could see the mist rising off the river and with the trees it was a wonderful autumn morning view. - The beds were very soft and comfortable. Plenty of towels were provided (4 Towels, 4 Hand Towels and 4 Wash Clothes). - I arrived there at 10pm and the manager told me prior to keep her posted on my arrival as the front desk closes at 11pm. - Express check out is provided just let the front desk know that you will need it. The Negatives: - I did have a small snag with the reservation process. I called two weeks prior to my arrival and made the reservation over the phone. When I called back the following week my reservation wasn't listed. Luckily the hotel still had rooms available and the original price given to me was honored. If you book over the phone make sure to get a confirmation number from the person you speak to. - The coffee maker did not work and we did read the directions prior to using it. - There was only one TV and it was very far away from my where my bed was located. - One of the towels had a bunched up dried hair in it which was not ours. - No conditioner was provided only Shampoo - Front Desk is only opened about 11pm it's not a 24hr front desk.

I love the 19th century feel. Did not love the nonexisting wifi - I had to go down to the living room to get any semblance of connection, but my room was up top with zero service. Not the quietest place but I've had worse. The weird part - for the cheaper rooms there's a shared bathroom. Fine, it's an old house. But the other person didn't lock the door. Didn't notice the "VACANT" when you walked in, eh? Well you sure noticed me! I hightailed it back, heard that person rush back to their room, and the bathroom was all set for my shower. Unforgettable is a positive thing, right? Can't really speak to the hotel staff as they were never present - just had my key at the front desk and name/room number. Anyone could walk in there and take a key and a room - until the person whose room it was supposed to be walks in and doesn't have a key. Not great, but at least the room locks! Oh, and my room had a reclining rocking-couch. I kid you not. I wanted to sit down and I had to jam a fireplace log under it so I could sit without it rocking all over the place. (I wanted to try to sit down with wifi. That wasn't happening.) Verdict: If you need to stay in Lincoln, I don't want to be too harsh with my star rating. It's not a terrible place, it's just very much walk-in-and-sleep. Nothing else to recommend for it.

Staff is always friendly, willing to help and always greet you when you come into the lobby. The continental breakfast is a big reason why I choose Hampton along with the more affordable accommodations compared to other Hilton brands. The experience was no different for the Hampton Inn and Bangor with the exception of the wait time to get our room. Check-In is as 3:00pm and my family and I were not able to get into the room till 4:00pm. I am a Hilton Honors member, checked in the day before and despite all that effort spent an hour in the lobby area waiting for the room to be ready. Non-Hilton members were walking into the lobby whose rooms were ready. I know this because the front desk staff asked them if they would be interested in becoming members during their check-in process. We eventually got up to around room 1 hour later, but only because I got notification on my phone of my digital key being ready. The staff was not the one's who notified us. When I provided my feedback in their email survey, I got the typical response that said sorry and they hope we give them another chance, but my feedback will help improve. They did nothing to compensate me for the 1 hour less of room time I got but paid for. I can empathize with businesses who are short-staffed and the difficulty of hiring quality individuals to fill key customer-facing roles or support staff who make up all the other departments who make a business like a hotel function from day-to-day. I work for a bank, and we too have difficulty hiring quality talent or those willing to go above and beyond just the expected responsibilities.

That was a highlight. Then we stopped off at an old bakery and convenience store in Brewer, just down the road a couple of miles. On our way back out of Canada we booked this hotel again. It is one of the cheapest of the Hilton family in the area and we actually booked the same room again. This time I was a little more alert and noticed that they had Netflix! After traveling for almost 3 weeks I was having a little Netflix withdrawal. I got excited and my husband, who had a restaurant picked out for dinner laughed and said "I guess that means we're eating pizza in tonight". YES! This is one of the nicer Hampton Inns we have stayed at. It has a walkin shower and a higher toilet-both helpful when you have an injured hip and knee. The breakfast were good too.

The convenience of being able to walk to any venue at the center is very convenient and worth the costs. I got a king bed suite which has plenty of room and a pull out couch. Bathrooms are huge with plenty of lighting and our room had an oversized walk-in shower. Pressure and water temp were great and I didn't feel like I didn't have any room to move around. Bed is comfortable and like most places the pillows are "eh", where I typically have to stack a couple to get comfortable for me to sleep. The little kitchen has everything you need to cook a small meal for your family if you choose to. Ice maker is built into the freezer making it easy to produce ice without having to walk down a long hallway to find the ice machine. It's full size refrigerator in the suite so we ordered Walmart delivery to bring some snacks and drinks to the room. The Hollywood Casino is located across the street and there is plenty of restaurants and shopping within 2-3 miles of the area. If you are attending an event at the Cross Insurance Center, I would highly recommend that you stay at the Residence Inn both for convenience and comfort. The Timber Kitchen and Bar is located within the hotel but also accessible from outside the hotel. Read about my review with them that you won't want to miss.
