Last week, my husband and I came to El paso to visit family and they took us here. They swear by the food, so we had to try it. Walking in you can tell its a large restaurant. The decor was old and caferteria style which made me think this is a place the usual's come, A favorite of the locals. Its awesome to see in the front a woman making flour tortillas fresh by hand. Extra points in my book! I knew this place was going to be good when the place was packed. The hostess was friendly and greeted us quickly. We only had to wait five minutes and then were seated. The only reason why we had to wait was because we were a larger group of 8. Our waitress was spanish and english speaking which is rare here in el paso. The menu was large. It had breakfast and lunch options. The prices were ridiculously cheap. I was in shock and awe. My daughters chicken nuggets and fries were 3 bucks. My husband ordered the American breakfast for 5 bucks and it included; 2 eggs, 4 bacon, hash browns, refried beans, rice, toast and something else. I cant remember because i was too busy devouring my own plate. YUM! My plate was 7 bucks and was huge!! I had rice, beans, cheese enchilada, chile relleno, shredded beef taco and a flauta with guac and sour cream on top. It was probably the best mexican food Ive gotten in El paso before. Everything tasted fresh and authentic. No fake food here! Everyone else enjoyed their food and had large portions as well. You def get your moneys worth. So the first time I came here, we went for lunch. NOT the best idea! Despite its name, this El Paso staple is known for breakfast, not midday meals. I decided to try their gorditas, which were overly starchy and buttery.....but I guess that's what I get for trying them in the first place. They're really not my style. The second time around, we both got the machaca con chili con queso, and it was deliccccccious! Breakfast here is fantastic, authentic, stomach-satisfying and served with big smiles. I didn't realize until after my own meal that I was hearing a lot of people saying things like, "No leftovers, but I'm stuffed!" Will definitely be back. I'm here temporarily with the military... I wish they had a location back home! Best chicken tenders and fries I've ever had. All of the sauces are fantastic... the fresh cut fries are the best. But what's even better is how wonderfully nice and polite the employees are. Years ago when I worked nearby we would make frequent menudo runs here and I remember it as very good. Just happened to be in the area a decided to stop in. But this time I opted for the green chile enchiladas montada. It was good but not great. Nothing wrong and we enjoyed the meal and the attentive service. But we live on the opposite side of town and we have many choices for a Mexican breakfast that are better. Next time I'm in the area I'll try the menudo again. There are many breakfast dishes and the flour tortillas are made fresh on site. They are very very good and can be purchased to go. read more

MMMMMMMMMMM On a recent trip to El Paso, we were told that this is the place to visit for authentic Mexican food. When we arrived at the parking lot, we could tell that this wasn't going to be an over-hyped restaurant, they haven't spent a ton of money making the place look glamorous, instead they have made sure that the food is top notch. As a couple of the other reviews stated, the service is a little bit lacking, but I attributed that to the amount of people they were serving. Authentic Mexican food good prices, friendly people and not fancy are the best way to describe the Lunch Box. It's located on N. Carolina Street. I recommend it for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I ordered the chile verdre it came with rice and beans. The chile verde had big chunks of meat with potatoes and long green chile. I recently went to the Lunch Box on Carolina for the first time. I waited for about 15 minutes to be seated because they were that busy. When I was seated, the waitress came by almost immediately. I told her it was my first time there and she showed me the daily specials menu. I had the mole chicken. Before I received the entree, I was given a bowl of chicken soup. If I had eaten the full bowl I might not even eaten my entree. Let me say the food was great and service wonderful. I have been raving about this place to anyone who will listen. read more

Service was horrible, waitress took our order and never came back, we ordered extra items, they never brought the additional food. At the end waitresses were discussing who took care of table cause they had swapped out amongst themselves. No one turned in our ticket to get charged, the only one lady that continued to come around would only offer coffee refills. It's sad to believe my elderly parents have been coming here for years and believe this mediocre service is normal. I will never subject myself and them to this again. read more

Arrived at a busy part of the day, did not mind the wait as all restaurants will most like always have a wait time before being seated. When we did get our table , it was extreamly unbalanced and had to switch tables. We placed our order and noticed everyone was getting their food except us and the two tables around us. Then I noticed that a couple that was seated 25 minutes yes 25 minutes after us already had their entrees and were almost done eating. Went to speak to the manager and he showed us that the ticket had been put in only ten minutes ago. What he didn't know is that the waitress had taken our order and kept the ticket in her pocket. We tried to explain to the manager that other patrons that were there 25 minutes after we arrived were almost done eating yet we were still waiting on our food, he didn't want to hear it. Last time I take my business there. I will not recommend this place to anyone anymore. They are getting sloppy and slow and rude. read more

Visited El Paso and had eaten here once before. The tortillas are amazingly fresh as they are made on site. My food was OK.... I would not say great. I had a combo plate so it had variety. The beef taco was really good while the taquito was simply AWFUL. The cheese enchilida was authentic and the charro beans were really seasoned well. My Mom brought me a take out order, it was horrible. It was a order of tacos, the meat had no flavor was rubbery ,tasted like they cooked it in the microwave, I mean no garlic,..nothing.
